I recently moved from Philly ,and forgot my guitar tuner so I popped in and met Tyler , awesome dude and proprietor , he has a nice selection of really nice acoustic and electric guitars . Lessons are also available here.
Great service and great store! I’ve been here a few times now for guitar repair and Tyler was awesome. He was able to straighten the neck and get the dead spots out of the fretboard. The prices are very fair and the service is impeccable. I’ll definitely be using them for all of my guitar needs in the future.
Awesome little shop. Tyler was a good fella. He helped my wife with her first electric guitar. Made her vacation.
I stopped by this shop on Wilmington Island on my way from Savannah to Tybee Island via a recommendation from a family friend. The location is easy to find and vibe is very quaint, a small room with a vast, well organized collection. I was greeted at the door by the owner, Ken. I could tell right away he loved what he was doing. I browsed some areas, as I sort of knew what I was after. I’m a jazz record guy but wanted some southern rock to add to my collection. Ken, showed off some newer additions he had just made to the store’s collection and we chatted about his running into Betty White. Solid experience. If you are in the area stop by and pick up some very clean and well priced vinyl.
Fantastic ownership, Peter Frampton record has great quality
Awesome place to visit with amazing owners! This is my go – to stop for new and used Vinyl in the Savannah Area
The owner was knowledgeable and honest. The records were in good condition and organized well. Some great prices, some a little higher, but overall a great selection and a nice place. We did purchase a few great finds. Plus, I got free sucker
Probably would have gotten 5 stars if they had a public bathroom.
More of older music
Good stuff
Not worth the drive. Below average selection. Make sure you look at the vinyl before making your purchase.

Easy to go in at easy to come out through the self-checkout everything was nice and easy to find
Found everything I needed!
Everything is brand new and very nice
Very busy rush hour … Better shopping experience in mornings or late nights
It’s okay
Staff and customers were all in a great mood, couldn’t find what I was looking for nut had three employees ask if I needed any help.
Terrible service the lady at the podium told me that I put my basket back from subcheck out. People at this store are lazy not good customer service.
Went in walmart with my 3 grands today, it’s 42 degrees outside so they had on jackets plus their coat, after the cashier rung up my items another cashier whispered something in her ear and the cashier said did I ring up those coats?! I replied very nice shocked myself, that they worn those coats in the store, those coats have been washed and they need to be washed again. After the cashier made the accusatory comment she NEVER APOLOGIZED she just looked at my grands as we were walking away. If the greeter was in place she or he could have told the cashier that they wore the coats in the store . It’s 2020 cashier’s should do their job and let others do theirs or learn how to address a customer in a better manner! I have called the corporate office as well as the store.
They havent changed. Its the same as years ago when i lived near this walmart. Its small and outdated. Lacks food choices and such.
10. Portman’s Music Superstore
Address: 7650 Abercorn St, Savannah, GA 31406 , Whitemarsh Island , Georgia , United States
Great employees who know what they’re talking about, helped us choose good guitar picks for teacher appreciation week. Great service!
Portman’s is an awesome music store. I always tend to lean toward local business but their prices stand up to any of the large companies. Frank Andrews with pro audio went above and beyond for my church’s business and stands behind it with customer service that you simply do not get anymore. Build quality of our new sound system is better what we expected and for a better price than buying online. I would recommend Portman’s to anyone.
The store is okay. Not large, pretty small selection. Customer service, as opposed to some of the reviews, was actually pretty good. I was in there for about 2 or 3 hours and was helped every step of the way. They do, however, start off talking to you like you’ve never picked up an instrument. Must be part of their training. Other than that, pretty good music store.
Went looking for electric guitar with son. The young man that helped us knew his stuff. Very knowledgeable. Very nice. Very patient. Son returned and bought one next day.
great place for whatever musical things you may need, i’ve had mutiple instruments from portmans but lessons from here aren’t the best. super tiny rooms to practice in and having my instructor not show up mutiple times was enough that i quit getting lessons. but other than that it’s a good shop
Do not trust these people with your sensitive personal information such as SSN’s DOB’s etc… They have a disgusting disregard for security of sensitive information. I got a call from Mrs Portman asking where to send a sensitive document. I called her back and provided my current mailing address. She called me back acknowledged she received my message (containing my current address) and told me she was mailing it to my OLD address. She either is spiteful or has dementia. I called her back TWICE asking her where she mailed it. And again EACH TIME providing my current address for a total of 3 times. Each time SPELLING MORRO BAY!!! I NEVER got a call back apologizing for mailing it to my old address the FIRST time. I had to go to my old address and ask the new residents for it. Then they mailed out a second copy to my current address. This seriously made me laugh so hard I dropped the document when I received it in the mail. After giving them my address 3 times and spelling Morro Bay 3 times. They still mailed it to the nonexistent Laurel Bay California.. it’s not even a real city. Absolutely pathetic… How hard is it to spell MORRO BAY after I left 3 messages spelling out the name… Absolutely comically pathetic.
Every time I go in there to get something I check the prices of the same thing on amazon. They are way overpriced on what they sell, a pack of guitar strings is $13 compared to $6 online. Also they would not let my sister try out a drum set before she got it, and that’s how you tell if you like it. Too bad it’s the only music shop around me.
Good selection. Went in to buy a guitar but no one would even speak to us. Oh well.
Renting my daughter’s saxophone from here and getting weekly music lessons. Amazingly sweet and helpful staff!! They really care about the students and it shows. Thank you all!
What a great store! Excellent service, the staff is very passionate and knowledgeable. The manager, Brandon, was especially helpful on my visit! I will definitely be back.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff and respectable pricing. I’m not a musician, but my wife left impressed.
Very kind staff and plenty of items for sale
The teen girl working was poorly dressed and rude. Having shopped at other locations before, I expected kind, well dressed employees with expert knowledge. That is not that case at this store– at least not with that employee!! This location lost the only good employee they had (the manager Brandon).
I’m truly upset with this store. I received 2 notices in the mail due to my credit card being declined. The reason why my card was declined was because of frauds activities. I went to pay on my daughter’s instrument and they told me that they do not accept payments in the store nor updated the information in their records. This is ludicrous. They need to change their policy. I called twice this week to reach customer service and they has me on hold for a whole hour. Something has to give.
Had two vintage guitars worked on and they are so much nicer to play, now!
I popped in for new strings and had a joyful experience with the man there – definitely chill friendly vibes and I left with a free sticker and good quality guitar pic!
Brooks and Trevor we’re awesome guys, set up my bass to the T.

A guy named Zac was great. He helped me as quickly as possible! My one year old was being a pain, but he didn’t judge me with any crazy looks. I’m excited for my husbands Christmas gift to arrive. I will be going here more often!
great drum section
Great store with a large selection of instruments and accessories. Will definitely be back!
Dave was really nice and helpful. Cool guy playing the piano. Nice atmosphere.
I’m really glad I went here. Bought my first guitar from this store on opening day. The employees there were extremely helpful and kind. Though opening day was indeed hectic, everyone kept a very calm composure.
Keep in mind though, Portman’s Music Superstore is practically next door. The competition is obvious, and Portman’s is a really good place too, so if you don’t find what you’re looking for at GC, check with your neighbor Portman. 😉
Huge selection of guitars and accessories. Lots of other musical instruments as well. Drums, keyboards, speakers, etc. Friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you find whatever you are needing to get the band going.
No help at all two employees would rather play the guitars on display. Asked for help acted as if it was an inconvenience to help a customer. Came here to buy a guitar the employees made my mind up for me. I will NOT visit this location again! Go the guitar center in Augusta way better service there.
It’s kinda pathetic they opened right next to a local music store right when the latter was picking up some business after the pandemic. Didn’t they find any other place to open up? Pathetic.
I walked in ready to spend $1000 on a PA system and I stood in front of the speakers for 20 minutes, not a single person acknowledged my presence. One was busy playing a guitar the other was playing drums with headphones on and another was fiddling with something at the counter. So i went to portmans. Within 5 minutes a guy was hooking up pa speakers for me to listen to. I spent $800 and guitar center missed out on my business.
