I loved being at WH. The facility is so peaceful and inspiring. The staff is great and everyone encourages everyone else! I’m taking two classes this year and hope to take 2-3 next year!
This is the best kept secret in Jewelry classes. The price for a one week class, plus your room and three meals a day, plus hot cookies on Tuesday, is less that $400.00……You can’t get a cheep hotel room in the beautiful North Ga. mountains for that.
The classes are small, usually only 7 – 10 students per class so that you get plenty of personal attention from the instructor. The instructors are highly trained and passionate about their specialty. You can choose beginner, intermediate or advanced classes in over 20 different categories of the lapidary arts
I have been attending classes since 2006 and usually take 6 – 8 classes per year! .
I came here and took 5 weeks of classes! Everything I learned was amazing, the amazing instructors, the office staff, the kitchen staff & amazing food tailored to my diet, the Executive Director Kristine, and even all the friends I made there have been wonderful. I learned so much and I’m definitely coming back next year. I’ve gone to other schools and they are either too expensive like for a few weeks and ten times more expensive & disorganized or for a day and overpriced. William Holland has the best deals and are professional and so kind. Even the after school activities are a blast. Thank you for my great service and all the cool jewelry I made was one of the best parts.
In preparation for a vacuum casting class, I purchased $400 worth of scrape silver. Two months before the class was to start, it was cancelled. For the next two years, I made inquiries about the class. The third year, after my email did not get a reply, I sent a letter marked “personal”: to Kristine Robertson, Executive Director. This, too, did not receive a reply. Several years before my first class, I wasn’t even sure if WH was even open. For about two years my phone messages and emails never received a response. Later, I learned they were under new management, and communications were better. I hope WH has not reverted back to their old ways. The class I did take was 5 stars, but customer service in communications has gone back to what it was – I cannot give it less than one star
The school is run like an elementary school. I found their schedules do not accommodate the actual teaching and serves to promote the school. A week long class is cut short by demos, auction night(to benefit the school), show and tell, mandatory that takes you away from the class for hours. Fridays are cut short by this. The food is adequate but hotdogs and cold cuts are not appropriate for adults.
RESPONSE MR HOLLAND; I MYSELF AM A DISABLED VETERAN, AWARDED,AS MY WIFE IS DISABLED AS WELL.BY NO MEANS IS THE ENTIRE WORLD CHILDISH,LOUD,BOISTUROUS. I HAVE SEVERAL RELATIVES IN UNION COUNTY AS I WAS A RESIDENT. I WILL END THIS WITH SHAME ON YOU BECAUSE WHO DOES ANYONE THINK THEY ARE TO RESTRICT ANYONE FROM PROPERLY PURCHASING ANYTHING?? JIM CROW??We attempted to buy a property adjacent to the school but at a distance nowhere close. The lapidary school “inviting people from all over the world”
had restrictions put all in that area of God’s land for what type of living quarters a family could live in trying to spend their earned money. No loud noises as I’m a Disabled Veteran and my wife is disabled we wanted a quiet place in the country. So I’ll end this with thank you so very much lapidary school.
5. Kelischek Music
Address: 199 Waldroup Rd, Brasstown, NC 28902 , Young Harris , Georgia , United States
Great shop with tons of interesting instruments. Loved spending time with George as he told us lots of stories and jokes. Bought a couple of his Irish whistles (to add to my collection) even though he really thought I should switch to recorder.
Great place. Love the ambiance. Old man is wonderful!
Have been e-mailing with George – the founder & owner of Kelischek for over three years. FINALLY had an opportunity to drive 6.5 hours to lovely Brasstown, NC and visit his workshop with the sole intention to buy a hurdy gurdy. From the moment we arrived, my friends and I were wall talked and man-splained simple music theory and dogmatic musical concerns for over 2 hours, with never an invitation or opportunity to pick up an instrument. He straight up refused and ignored to answer any questions we had about string types & gauges. We couldn’t get a word in edgewise. From his monologue, I can tell you George hates blue grass music and never ever wants computers to make music. He does however adore his 9-note melodies and will be happy to serenade you for hours with his hundreds of beautifully made wind & string instruments. Total punisher.
Placed an order over a week ago and called to request the tracking number since nothing was updated. Was yelled at by the owner that I was expecting too much and that ‘us people’ don’t understand how we are the bane of craftsman. I didn’t raise my voice or insult before he dove into this, I simply called to ask if one was being provided or not. Stay away from this shop.
6. Megatone Music
Address: 44b Town Sq, Blairsville, GA 30512 , Young Harris , Georgia , United States
Always plenty of variety with their guitars and pedals, and consignment was easy.
Super friendly people. Grandson taking lessons with a great instructor. Love guitars and more? This is well worth the visit.
WOW!!!!
I couldn’t believe how much stock Megatone has in store!!!! Friendly and knowledgeable staff with a huge selection. Prices are a bit higher than I expected, but we are out in the country. Give them a visit
Out if business
Dealt with these people on reverb. They ignored my messages, refused a refund twice, once before it had shipped out because the dimensions weren’t right to fit on my guitar. Then after no response for months, I posted on their facebook and they deleted my post. These people are scammers and deceivers. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.
Staff isn’t honest
7. Maw Sound & Lighting
Address: Hiawassee, GA 30546 , Young Harris , Georgia , United States
Stopped here on our way to Alabama and was very pleased. The couple that was running the place were super friendly and helpful. Selection was good and prices were fair for the general public.
Lovely ladies and great deals
Lots of great antiques, a wide variety, something for everyone’s taste or style.
Very nice ladies working there !!
You have some great signage for the man cave.
Ok place. Prices were fair.
Ok store but I’ve never felt so unwelcome because of the way I dress. I LOVE going antiquing but I’ll never spend my money here.
The lasy was really nice but they did have a black face doll that was for sale for $59. I thought that was inappropriate and insensitive to the black race.
Had some ok items. I have antiqued for years and this is the worst place for attitude toward customers. Not as friendly as one would expect and definately not willing to negotiate prices like every antique place I have been in does. Very very disappointed here!! Plenty of others out there. Try those first!!
9. Music To My Ears
Address: 1897 Blairsville Hwy, Murphy, NC 28906 , Young Harris , Georgia , United States
Great place with a great selection of instruments and accessories! Not the typical cookie cutter type of music store, with all the same brands and models as everywhere else. Wide selection from very reasonable and affordable to higher end, top shelf quality and everything in between. Excellent store, knowledgeable staff, and very welcoming atmosphere.
Great resource for all things music.
Awesome store with a very helpful and informative owner… She will help you with anything you need.
Lots of reasonably priced items. Very friendly and helpful lady, sold me a very nice guitar for a great price and gave a discount on new strings.
Okay store but it “feels” dirty inside. Pretty high prices on stuff.
