Awesome gift shop catering towards graduates. Profits go towards helping cadet programs vs. Visitors center which is a private company now. Much more reasonably priced as well.
Great selection of gifts that they don’t have at the visitors center. They carry squadron patches, pins, and stickers. I’m surprised how many years it took me to know this place existed.
Tim, and his team are incredibly professional and helpful. I look forward to many encounters with them. They are incredibly knowledgeable, and will continue to support this organization!

Lady was very sweet and I found the music book my niece wanted without an issue.
Best place in town for your music needs. Everyone. Is so helpful and nice!
Great, helpful folks!
Great customer service
Great for beginners. Not a pro shop by any means.
Limited selection at this location. Staff is eager to send you downtown for things they don’t have at this location.
I’m quite happy to be free of this business.
I rented a keyboard to test interest with my daughter before purchasing one of our own.
I found it strange that their policy required me to fill out paperwork with a credit/debit card number complete with CVV in the year 2023 on a paper form, rather than reading the card for secure storage in an online system. I had never done this before but complied with the request. Two days later fraudulent charges showed up on my card account.
The particular unit I rented was set up as a floor model. The sales associate, when dismantling the setup, walked away from the wall with keyboard in hand, without unplugging it. This pulled the power cord sharply where it joined the keyboard and shattered the connector. While I saw the drama unfold, I didn’t know this part was broken at the time, as the associate quickly sealed the keyboard in the box and pushed paperwork under my nose, requiring me to confirm the keyboard condition. I was told the unit was brand new and so there was no need for me to inspect its condition. It appears the associate, after making an honest mistake, elected to leave the damage for me to deal with rather than do the right thing.
After I took the keyboard home and discovered the damage, a different associate at the store completed a new condition report for me the following day, so that I would not be held liable for the damage upon returning the keyboard.
While the keyboard remained in my possession it continued to work despite the shattered connector. However, if you’re renting a keyboard here, you might want to check it over before signing the condition report regardless of your associate’s claims or hurried attempts to seal any instrument in a box.
When I rented, I was told, and was provided paperwork to confirm, that a two month minimum rental was required. Further, I would pay for the first month up front and a deposit that, weirdly, would be applied to the second month. I would not be charged again until the beginning of the third month.
After the broken connector, I was already distressed by my experience with the store. The fraudulent charges appearing on my card finalized my decision that I would not be renting beyond the minimum of two months according to the contract I signed.
Strike three came when I returned the keyboard at the end of the two months. My account was in good standing according to the terms of the contract with no further money owed by me. However, this time a third associate who received the keyboard from me very carefully phrased that the only thing left to do was for her to collect payment from me for the second month. How many people actually fall for this? I made it clear that I was familiar with the terms of the contract I signed and that I would be offering no further money.
I walked out for the last time, satisfied with myself for not having provided my new card number to this particular vendor after having to change it and update other vendors two months prior.
Awful customer service. Instead of greeting us when we walked in, the woman behind the counter told us to write down our names and they would get to us when they could. Then she proceeded to walk off.
All I needed was a book. I stood there holding it for 20 minutes (being ignored) before I finally walked out and drove an extra 15 minutes to Graner music where they have always been nice to me.
If you want fast and friendly help, I recommend going to Graner instead.
***Response from the store owner has absolutely nothing to do with the fact the staff was rude to me and ignored me while I stood at the counter with only a book when there was only one other person in the store.
Guy on the phone was rude and very unhelpful. I asked to speak to someone in repair but he would not transfer me!
5. Army & Air Force Exchange Services
Address: 5124 Community Center Drive Colorado Springs, Air Force Academy, CO 80840 , Air Force Academy , Colorado , United States
Ok, I sometimes go here for gas. But I really am shopping for wine. Buy 6 bottles not on sale and you get 10% off. I am only giving them 4 stars because whoever stocks the shelves or trains the people that do doesn’t understand that the most expensive booze should be on the top shelf and the least expensive on the bottom. There stuff is all over the place. If I am looking for a really good bottle of wine I don’t want to be looking for a half hour.. line um all up in a row and let me choose, same for medium, low and very low.
Its a BX.
It’s a very small BX. I can find most items I need. My biggest complaint is that there are children that live on this base, and there are no children’s clothing or shoes, but there are toys….makes no sense. Otherwise, it’s a nice store. It is also catered to th3 cadets and closes VERY early at 6:30pm. So, you have a 30 mins window to pick up something at the commissary. The diaper selection is not good.
Small
Good place….typical military exchange. Rude, unprofessional workers…esp the Asian workers.
The smallest and most pathetic exchange I have ever visited.
6. Changing Times Music Services
Address: 2199 Diamond Creek Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80921 , Air Force Academy , Colorado , United States
Eric did an awesome job DJing our wedding! He was very easy to work with leading up to the event and attentive to our requests. He helped make it work even though the original dance floor got rained out. The pricing was reasonable, too. I would absolutely recommend Changing Times Music Services!
Eric was a good DJ, but i dinked off a star because he did not play my recommended song
He is really good at being a DJ and he puts on good songs.
Awesome guy, took him an old 80s synth and he went through it and discussed what it needed and performed the needed repairs. Really went above and beyond. Quality work at a reasonable cost! Would definitely use again and recommend for others! Thanks!
9. Rocky Mountain Academy of Music
Address: 5426 N Academy Blvd #101, Colorado Springs, CO 80918 , Air Force Academy , Colorado , United States
5 starts isn’t enough to rate this amazing academy! All three of my boys have been enrolled for over a year, ages 5-9, guitar, piano, and percussion. Besides learning music composition from their amazing instructors, they have also gained a new sense of confidence in their daily lives.
Benito goes above and beyond with their lessons, and is also very flexible when it comes to scheduling.
Hands down, the best music school for adults and children in Colorado.
Benito, the owner of Colorado Springs’ Rocky Mountain Academy of Music, had substituted for our son’s previous piano teacher, and we sought him out to further Zack’s music lessons. We are extremely impressed with the balance he strikes between knowing when to push our son to further develop his skills and when to step back a bit. Zack practices each week, now, because he knows that Benito expects it. Zack has high functioning autism and often dislikes leaving our house, but he never argues when it’s time to leave for his piano lessons. This is high praise for Rocky Mountain Academy of Music!
Thanks from my Three sons piano well done
I had a very good experience here with my vocal coach, Brandon, however, my experience recording a song was not nearly the quality I was looking for. I would recommend this place to learn vocals though.
We are so happy with Tessa, our piano teacher! She is reliable, kind, and an excellent teacher for our daughter. Maddie looks forward to her coming each week and is enjoying the lessons and the songs that are chosen for her. It’s so nice that they do two piano recitals each year to showcase the student’s hard work. We are all looking forward to participating in those. I would highly recommend Springboard Piano to enjoy lessons in the comfort of your own home.
My 6 years old daughter has Ms. Tessa as her teacher. She loves her!!! She gets so excited when I tell her she has her piano lesson tomorrow. Ms. Tessa is very sweet and she makes her lessons fun and interesting so that my daughter would keep wanting to learn!
We have been clients for several years and have appreciated the expertise and flexibility of the teachers. Traveling to our home is an essential part of the service for us, so that’s a huge plus. We have been happy with the lessons and the progress our kids have made.
11. Air Force Academy Commissary
Address: 5126 Community Center Dr, Air Force Academy, CO 80840 , Air Force Academy , Colorado , United States
Love this commissary. It’s hardly ever busy and their prices are the lowest for any name brand food you buy. So glad they decided to open up on Mondays.
Love how un-busy and laid back everything is on the Academy.
Well stocked and staff have always been friendly! Would definitely recommend for those who have access to it!
Lots if products out of stock
Typical base commissary. Small but we’ll stocked.
Standard small commisary
DISABLED VETS AND ELDERLY BE WARE. First, I would like to thank all who have served in our armed forces for their service.
I went to the commissary today and was floored. Worst experience ever. There were no cashiers, no baggers and nobody to assist Disabled Vets or the elderly at all! All transactions were self-check out only. The woman in front of me had to be at least 85 or older. She had to scan and bag her groceries herself and, get them out to her vehicle by herself. What a disgrace. The only way I could get my groceries today, was with my wife’s assistance. I used to shop here alone. Today I was lucky to have her by my side.
If DECA doesn’t want retirees to use their services, no problem. Just tell us not to shop there. We can find somewhere else to go.
The pride of the United States Air Force, the most powerful Air Force in the world, has no respect for those that have served in the past or their surviving family members. Even Walmart helps the disabled and elderly.
The ” Thank you for your service” on the receipt makes me want to vomit. You have made that phrase a joke…and it’s not appreciated. I don’t need or want your thanks. I served honorably. I’m proud of that.
To those that reduced the service and pride of the business that they conduct with retirees, their families and survivors…you will get old some day too. If you need assistance and don’t get it…it was your own doing.
I attempted to let DECA know about my experience directly and failed. The process listed at the bottom of the receipts printed at the USAFA Commissary is outdated, and the printed receipts don’t have the information needed to keep this in house.
Now all of the Google World can see your short falls.
Not much in stocked. One line opened on PAYDAY for check out with 20 people in line. No employee seemed concerned or helped out. People are confused bc the line is so long
All produce and fruit were warm and almost perished. No cashiers to take costumers and very depressed with no music at all.
12. Shin’s Music Studio
Address: 14140 Nichlas Ct, Colorado Springs, CO 80921 , Air Force Academy , Colorado , United States
Absolutely amazing music studio! Absolutely amazing teachers, have taught me so much in such a short period of time. 🙂
I have been coming to Shin’s Music Studio for almost ten years and it truly is the best experience ever. Ms. Shin is an incredibly kind and attentive teacher who has helped me grow vocally since I was 11 years old. I could not recommend a better place to come to!
Mrs. Shin is a wonderful music teacher. She is attentive and patient with my very active child.
13. 232 Music Studios
Address: 7657 N Union Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80920 , Air Force Academy , Colorado , United States
Matt was extremely helpful when I brought my guitar into him. He helped me figure out what was wrong with it and was incredibly accommodating in helping me find a reasonable solution. I would highly recommend him!
Matt was an incredible help to both my husband and myself. He went above and beyond his area of expertise to help me find a gift for my husband. We will definitely use Matt’s services again. We highly recommend him and his services.
Matt defreted my electric bass guitar and did an excellent job turning my Yamaha BB bass into a fretless bass. Superb craftsmanship, friendly service, reasonably priced. Highly recommend Matt.
I highly recommend! Amy is an excellent vocal teacher. She has a large opera background, but also pop prersentation experience for non-opera vocalists. Always has a smile, and teaches you to do the work, which is useful for your best experience for your investment. I love to hear her sing, so find a way to get her to do so in your lesson. 😉
Mushall Music Studio has provided me with the best voice lessons I could’ve asked for! Amy is such an inspirational, kind, supportive, and overall incredible voice teacher that has the skills and capabilities to help anyone grow and learn more, regardless of age, or level. She has always been one of my biggest supporters and I would recommend this business to anyone hoping to grow as an artist as well as grow as a person!
Amy Mushall manages her studio with efficiency and organization, helping the parent understand scheduling and payments with ease and clarity. But the greatest gift of Amy is how she educates the whole child, meeting them where they are, while also challenging them in new, sometimes unexpected, areas of growth. Her love of her craft and intuitive understanding of a student’s struggles and needs makes Amy more than just a voice teacher. She was a true gift to my daughter in so many ways
I have been taking my children to Silversound for a few years now and we could not be happier as parents. They not only teach but inspire. My oldest wants to do nothing but play his guitar. Mark is positive, kind, encouraging and above all motivates. I see the same from the other teachers and S.S. too. Great atmosphere and awesome people. Give them a shot and I promise you won’t be disappointed
This place is amazing! It has such a different atmosphere and it makes you feel like you are home. The teachers are incredible and attentive, the owners Mark and John are super friendly and professional, and Emy is always amazingly helpful! Your first lesson is free to make sure you jive with your teacher because they want to make sure you are in your best learning environment with someone who gets you. They teach guitar, drums, voice, piano, bass, and some technical stuff, too! Highly recommend! You won’t be disappointed.
Great guitar instructor and really chill place. Always great ambience and positive attitudes. My son really needed this outlet. He’s learning so much and has a decent male role model to look up to!
20. Lana’s Music Studio, Inc
Address: 2140 Rusty Hinge Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80920 , Air Force Academy , Colorado , United States
We have been with Lana’s Music Studio for almost a year now. I have three kids at various levels that all study with Yulia. She is fantastic with kids!!! She is super patient with the ones who struggle. She is also great at pushing the ones who excel. She is always kind, but also holds them to a high standard. All three of my kids have really improved immensely this year. Yulia teaches each one a little differently. It is very personalized. I love that it’s more about developing skills as a musician than just learning the next song in the book. She always explain how things fit into the grand scheme of musical knowledge. My oldest child has even learned about accompaniment, and how to apply her skills that way. We are a military family, and it’s always hard to find a new piano teacher after a PCS. Finding Yulia was a big win.
Just had my last lesson with Lana. After two years with her I am moving away from the Springs. Lessons with her will be one of the things I will truly miss. Lana is an amazing teacher. She is a professional, having studied piano formally and informally all her life. As an adult learner, she did not make the goals for the lessons. Rather, she would help me figure out my goals and then she would guide me in how to achieve them. I was given the opportunity to pursue the music I wanted to pursue with a world class teacher to help me along the way. I really can’t say enough how wonderful of a teacher she has been and how much fun I have had. Thank you Lana for helping me along my musical journey! I am very excited for all the other people who will get to learn from you in the future!
My son and I went to Lana’s studio while in Colorado for a hockey tournament, so he could practice his piano pieces for a state test he had the following weekend. Even though we were not there for formal lessons, Lana was very gracious with her schedule, allowing us to work around the tournament games all four days. Lana also provided him helpful tips as well as interesting background on the composers of some of his pieces. Maintaining that consistent practice time was important to us, and undoubtedly helped him pass!
