Anytime I need anything, these guys are usually the only stop I need to make.
This rating is based on guitar purchase…
They have a great selection of guitars and were priced well.
I recently ordered the Charvel Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 2 HT from these guys via Reverb, and Jeff was helpful, super quick to ship it out, and even set it up with the string gauge and brand I prefer. It’s a tough guitar to get your hands on right now because Fender’s Mexico factory is at half capacity, and if I tried to get it through a local store here in Texas, I would have been looking at waiting until December to get my hands on it. Thanks again guys!
Friendly folks But poor job on my guitar.
1) I took my new guitar for setup and it has the transparent pickguard, it was all dirty inside the pickguard so i had to buy the tool to open the pickguard and clean myself also few screws were popping out. (And also they took off the protective sticker which i kept for a purpose.
2) the frets were still sharp which they said they gonna file it off. So i had to take another shop to get it done and i spent more.
Drove 160 miles total and spend money for poor treatment to the guitar.
My 12 y/o special needs son walked in this store and asked for help, by using their phone to call his mom and was refused help this is absolutely despicable. I will absolutely let people know what kind of people run this store.
They had a decent selection of instruments, but I was very disappointed with how one of the workers treated my friend and me. We were playing on a few different instruments over the course of about 30 minutes, and at some point a worker walked up to us and told us that the jamming had to stop. Never thought I’d hear that complaint in a music store, especially since we were playing relatively quietly. He most likely assumed we weren’t serious about buying anything (which is far from true), but I can assure you that they won’t be getting my business any time soon. I’d rather drive the extra 30 minutes to Guitar Center.

Had a fantastic experience here. In addition to being extremely professional and knowledgeable, owner and engineer Matt Dudman was consistently able to get the best out of me and my band. Highly recommended!
Great atmosphere and equipment, but the key is Matt Dudman – excellent engineer and musician, patient, super efficient, and understands all genres. Highly recommended.
For my band Vista Real, recording our first studio album at Pleasant Valley Music remains one of the most enjoyable and enlightening experiences we have ever had in music.
From our project’s start to its end, PVM’s owner and engineer Matt Dudman went above and beyond to make sure each step was done to our satisfaction. We especially appreciated that Matt allowed us complete creative control over our album, but also made himself available to provide his expertise and input when we asked for it. Matt is a true professional in the studio and knows how to make his clients feel welcome and at ease when they come in to get work done. For the level of exceptional service we received, we paid very reasonable rates unmatched by most other local studios.
Thanks to Matt, my band’s debut album ‘When This Is Over’ is all we hoped it would be and more. If you’re looking to get a record done right, we highly recommend Pleasant Valley Music!

Nice folks. Helpful, busy and they know their stuff. It was my first experience there but not the last. Good selection for a small town music store. And it’s great that they are still thriving….must be doing something(s) right.
Great local music store. Just bought my fourth instrument there.
Very nice customer service, really appreciate how adaptable they are!
While it may seem like a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, the store offers a plethora of instruments and other musical paraphernalia. Music lessons also offered!
Very cool rustic music store with knowledgeable, friendly staff.
Great guitar lessons. Great deals, they price match guitar center too! My son got a gorgeous electric guitar for Christmas to upgrade from his child-sized Ibanez, and the customer service was great.
Yeah not too sure about that place I feel robbed every time I go in there, yeah of course there’s a lot of good stuff there but overall there wasn’t a chance for no stars they can have one I guess
Over priced
Drove there on Sunday, as Google said they were open. They were not.
6. The Music Store
Address: 4815 Granite Dr, Rocklin, CA 95677 , Allendale , California , United States
I rented a sax that i can’t afford anymore, but my experience was good. They have a nice rent to buy program that I want to take advantage of in the future, and the voice lessons are something I’ve always wanted to invest in and learn.
My visit here today was great and the gentleman that I spoke with earlier (Kevin) even put the violin that I was coming to purchase for my daughter out so I could easily come in and pay then be on my way. The price was alittle more than I really was budgeting but once she opened and saw the violin I got for her she almost cried and can’t wait to show it off Sat when she has her performance.
Thank you so much Kevin for your help and making my first visit here perfect Very Much Appreciated!!
My sons mouthpiece got stuck in his trumpet. We walked in and they removed it for us at no charge. The service was awesome and they are very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back! And they have private lessons at a very reasonable charge!
Friendly staff and very helpful.
I rented a used violin for my son from the shop. They said the price was $199. The rental was $35 per month. after two months if you want to own the violin then they said they would deduct the rental amount from the original price. But when we want to buy the used violin they said the price is $299 which is hell more than a new violin. So would recommend not to rent or buy anything from this store.
7. Geddes Music Brentwood
Address: 625 1st St, Brentwood, CA 94513 , Allendale , California , United States
They helped me find an instrument that I wanted to play that lasted me quite a while I love going there they have a lot of cool music and the there prices are good because I know that the instrument is kept in good condition
Awesome staff, great prices, wide selection of guitars and other instruments new and used. Go get some strings or a guitar or something. Gotta support your local music store
Friendly and well stocked music store, central location for the Brentwood area. Some gems of guitars, too! Nice stuff.
Nice local music shop, helpfull employees and good product
8. Gerry Ramos Music Studio
Address: 4000 Madeline Ct, Vacaville, CA 95687 , Allendale , California , United States
Cameron, the owner, is really nice and helpful, not to mention he knows what he’s talking about
This is an excellent store with great people. The selection is quality and the repairs are top-tier. They even cleaned the inside of my case, when I was given back my guitar from a repair.
Great place for music lessons, Cameron is teaching guitar and my daughter is turning into a rock star!
Their music selection was a bit small but they had everything I needed at a very reasonable cost.
Did not have a kazoo
The line was crazy long and they were extremely under staffed.
10. Alina’s Music Studio
Address: 706 W Monte Vista Ave, Vacaville, CA 95688 , Allendale , California , United States
Ms Alina is an amazing piano teacher!! My daughter flourished under her teaching. After a year of lessons, my daughter was able to play beautiful piano pieces. Ms Alina guided my daughter not only how to read notes, but also proper posture and hand movements. Ms Alina is very professional! My family are so impressed of how my daughter was able to perform well on her first recital just after a year of lessons. Ms Alina always goes above and beyond for her students. My daughter is always excited to see Ms Alina!!
Our daughter has loved Ms. Alina from her very first lesson. Our daughter loves music, and Ms. Alina nurtures that love beautifully. She inspires our daughter to practice and play well, and provides several opportunities to perform (which is an invaluable experience for our young learner). Ms. Alina is very professional and accommodating, and we couldn’t be happier with her!
Truly inspirational as well as very patient, highly professional. My granddaughter absolutely loves Ms.Alina and looking forward to her lessons every week. And the performances she produces – simply amazing. We are very grateful!
11. School of Rock
Address: 322-B Parker St, Vacaville, CA 95688 , Allendale , California , United States
School of Rock in Vacaville is excellent!. The owner is very understanding and helpful!! My son’s instructor is patient and kind. Everything about this place is awesome!!!
School of awesome
Terrible for adult vocal lessons, for around 300 bucks you do weekly lessons and band rehearsal, despite the price tag my instructor was clearly not qualified and seemed unsure of herself, was also rude. Scolded me at the beginning of my paid lesson time, had me seeing red, yet unable to leave because I still had to do the lesson, which I was paying a lot of money for. They make you cancel a month in advance and when I did, rehearsal with the group band got awkward, one of the band members told me not to “feel pressured to show up anymore” which came across as don’t show up. anyways with regards to the band I came in at a time when all I was allowed to do was watch if I wanted to rehearse a song I would have to pay for another month and the song had to be one that they approved of. The worst part is I still live in the same town so I’ll see them around from time. I honestly wished I had never signed up to begin with. I had high hopes for school of rock and was left severely disappointed.
This place may seem incredible; however, I found out that the instructor entertains the kids with the new version of Hangman Game; the Astronaut Game, during my daughter’s music class. I understand that children need a little break (however, this is not a school with study hours, this is a 30-minute class); however, I can’t fully agree to play it for a while and not even for a whole class; this is unbelievable !!! Also, I was paying for a music class and not for babysitting. Well, I made my complaint, and this is what I got: “I should change my daughter to a different level because she is too mature for the class.” On top of that, they also told me that she was lying about it. Very disappointed with this place.
Came here after rude experience at The Guitar Center. I am sooo happy! Super nice , couldn’t have found a better shop in town. Prices are good and service excellent! Thank you Guitar Center, without your rudeness I wouldn’t have found this awesome store.
The Strum Shop is my favorite shop. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of the owner Stu.
His family is carrying on. His daughter helped me pick out a wonderful Koa wood tenor uke, which is the perfect uke for my hand – I had a broken index finger and need the narrow neck for bar cords, and it has a very nice action. Everybody loves its delicious sound and it is easy to play.
Randy and Dan are very helpful. I have bought 20 ukes here, for family members, and sold on consignment within a week, 4 of my ukes, guitars.
I enjoy the free strum workshops.
The new Vernon street location is so much larger and I love the old Towne Roseville location by Roseville Theater, than the small shop. I recommend the Strum Shop to anyone interested in buying a uke. Great selection, always changing, and I always find one to please the heart of the person whom I take in who wants to learn to play the uke.
Great place for all things guitar and ukulele!
Had all manner of steering instruments, plus. Also they give music lessons for drums, violin, ukulele, plus more.
High Prices
I went to the Strum Shop where I was greeted by Dr. Dan, a very nice man who seems knowledgeable about acoustic instruments. he was super helpful and told me my guitar would be done in 2 days. I got it back the next day. The work was pretty good and the string rattle was fixed but I discovered a couple weeks later he had made a new slot for the high E string on the nut (which I didn’t ask for) and as a result the strings are now not evenly spaced. I have to get a new nut put on now which is disappointing.
He did put a new pickup on for a fair price which works great and I appreciate that! It’s a very nice guitar shop run by very nice folks. I’m sure I’ll go back at some point but I’m a little bummed about having to get a new nut put on as a result of the initial work.
They lost my instrument and won’t return my calls. I brought an instrument in for repairs, they gave to their vendor, I talked with the vendor and he said it would be done in two weeks. After a month with no word I started calling, and they have ignored all messages I’ve left.
I originally came in to get a new nut cut for my Gibson SG. The repair took longer and cost more than originally advertised, and the repair man left several issues that I had to fix myself (buzzing on A and low E, new tuning problems due to roughness of nut slots, high action, used strings other than the ones I’d left for him and specifically asked for him to use). Fortunately, however, when I brought this up with the shop, out of the $50 that I was charged, I was refunded $40 labor cost. (Still on the hook for $10 though).
EDIT: The manager for the Strum Shop started hassling me over text message after I posted this review. LOL.
Went in and there was a class going on with 20+ people crammed into a tiny space, not one of them wearing a mask. Only one other person in the entire store had one on, none of the staff. Fully 1/3rd of Sac Co. is completely unvaccinated. I’m immune compromised [along with some 7,000,000 other American citizens] & disabled. The ABSOLUTE BARE MINIMUM of decency and community protection is apparently an outrageous expectation. They also had some absurd overpricing. I vastly prefer non-corporate local stores, but they can F right off if they’re not going to do even the simplest, most pitifully minor actions to do their part in not further spreading a wildly uncontrolled global pandemic that has killed nearly a million U.S. humans, and is far from over. Still averaging a quarter million cases a day, and over 2,000 deaths [more than any time since last winter, still]. They don’t even REQUEST that people wear some kind of face covering. Reprehensible madness, and unless this changes I will not support or recommend them to my musician friends. Please be better, nobody should be forced to exclude themselves from society JUST because of laziness or ignorance and non-measures that throw disabled folks under the bus.
15. The Nicholson Music Co.
Address: 636 E Bidwell St, Folsom, CA 95630 , Allendale , California , United States
Nick so knowledgable! He can answer any question. He really cares and wants to help you. We love hearing his stories and he treats you like a friend.
What a great store, the staff was extremely helpful with us needing a new guitar for my daughter’s upcoming music class. They took the time to show us all our options, made sure to point out everything we need and we had everything ready to go. We will make sure to visit for any and all our music needs.
Great local store, knowledgeable associates, great products, on site technicians, rentals, instructors. Been in business for decades and still has the feel of a mom and pop instead of the big box emptiness.
Very friendly and they know their business on setting up your guitar or repairing your guitar or whatever instrument you bring in prices are fair. Great guitar teachers also.
I haven’t been to this shop in years. Came in recently to look for a specific book. The staff was friendly. The layout of the place is a bit awkward. There is a back section with sheet music but it’s not very apparent at first. Ask anyone at the desk if you need to find it. The sheet music selection is very small.
They had a good collection of guitars, bases, and other stringed instruments. I didn’t see much in the way of brass or woodwinds. Its in a small shopping complex and parking was okay.
I enjoyed the experience of coffee, paired sometimes with comedy, awesome musicians to so so ones on open mike days. Fun place with friendly staff.
Wish the coffee was better than just good, or maybe I’m just spoilt. Haha.
This shop is close to my home and has a reasonable selection and decent prices for its size. I don’t mind paying an extra 10% over what I would pay at Guitar Center if I can support small and local business. BUT the service here is pretty sparse and harsh.
As someone else said, customers are not permitted to handle any instruments (including $150 guitars) without assistance, and the assistance can be hard to come by. I kinda feel if you’re gonna spend 4 figures on a piece a gear you outta be able to look it over, feel it, and play it without having someone hovering over you. There are some products customers are not allowed to even LOOK AT, much less handle, without an escort. After all, it’s a music store, not a museum. I understand they don’t wanna have to discount products because someone mishandledthemt, but if that’s your policy it would be nice to have customer service that actually services the customer.
We didn’t realize it was a music night so the music was so loud that we couldn’t talk to each other. The service was great but the prime rib was lousy.
Rude and unprofessional people.
16. Loud and Clear Music
Address: 8000 Old Redwood Hwy, Cotati, CA 94931 , Allendale , California , United States
They helped me with a complicated situation. Great service!
Excellent layout, great staff, unique finds!
Friendly staff, great selection.
Helpful service and some quality gear.
This is what a music store should be like
They’d rather make $50 or so than lose a customer and get a negative feedback. Not sure that’s a winning business strategy in the long run, but best of luck.
So, I’ve been in here twice since I’ve moved from East Bay to Rohnert Park last year. On both separate occasions the staff watches me like I’m going to steal every item in the store somehow. Very, very, very uncomfortable to look up and have every worker in the store staring at you from across the room, yet not one word of helpfulness or a ‘hi’ or anything. I wont be stepping foot in ‘this boy’s club again’.
17. Allendale
Address: California 95688 , Allendale , California , United States
18. Manor Music
Address: 460 Manor Plaza, Pacifica, CA 94044 , Allendale , California , United States
Manor Music is a great choice for when you want quality instruments at a wide price range. They recently brought some new guitars in, which are worth checking out. The people working there are friendly and willing to answer and questions you have.
It has everything I need for the budding guitarist in me. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Went in there about an hour before it closed…. just sort of fumbled around looking at various things…. they got some good stuff in here…. it’s a nice little shop for anyone who lives out here on the coastal peninsula who doesn’t want to drive all the way to San Mateo or San fransico for a guitar center
Nice little place. When we visited, the person working didn’t seem very knowledgeable about the instruments. But the store itself was very cute
This weekend I came into Manor to pick up some sheet music for inspiration. I picked up a few older books from the back of the store, and I was surprised that they charged the original cover print price (~$20 per book) on books printed in 1995.. I should have spoken up at the time, but the more I thought about it the more I wanted to know if this was a mistake? !
My wife told me that this store is much more customer friendly compared to the one at Grand Ave at downtown South San Francisco even though manor music equipment may not be as complete as the other one, but the people running this store are really nice. if you need to go to the store, I suggest to call them ahead because their store hours could be tricky. In addition, if you need to borrow any musical instrument, do not go the last minute. They may be able to get you one if you give enough time. Please support this local business.
Terrible attitude. Not helpful. Never go back again!
19. B Street Music & Recording
Address: 1745 Adrian Rd #8, Burlingame, CA 94010 , Allendale , California , United States
Peter was great to work with. He let me try out a hard to find guitar. I highly recommend B Street.
I was looking for a hard to find digital piano that was out of stock everywhere. B street sold it to me without any markup even though this is high demand product. Really couldn’t be happier with being connected to the musical instrument that I was looking for.
I went by here yesterday because I had just bought a guitar at a pawn shop. Peter hooked me up with some basic education and everything else I needed. A little hard to find at the new location, but worth the effort.
Friendly and they know their stuff.
tiny tiny shop. sad to see they downsized and the people renting musical instruments etc. has declined over the years.
20. Music Go Round
Address: 944 W Robinhood Dr, Stockton, CA 95207 , Allendale , California , United States
Great prices for used gear! Staff helpful and knowledgable.
Seth was awesome, easy to work with on a gear trade! Very knowledgeable and no BS. Spoke with Tim, also easy to work with! Will be returning SOON to buy more gear!
Online order
Ordered a Jackson at a great price, used. Shipping took a little while (about a week and a half, I guess I’m just used to crazy fast shipping speeds like amazon. Felt like a lifetime. I’m in NY so it’s completely understandable )
Guitar looks great. There are some very very slight nicks and dings (as to be expected with a used guitar, however it would be nice to have the imperfections highlighted in a picture or two). Guitar is full functional and has no mechanical problems; however it did not come with the whammy bar. Not a big deal at all, they are only a few dollars. It would have been nice to have that listed in the description though so I could have had one ordered before the guitar got here. Again, not a big deal at all.
Overall very happy with the guitar and will be ordering more from them in the future. Thanks guys. Wish I was closer and could come check out the rest of your stuff in person!
Great stuff!!!
Great place to rent violins and other instraments
They took 5 days to ship a small package. The label was created but the package was not given to USPS until 5 days later. I called on the 3rd and they told me USPS had not picked it up. I called again on the 5th day and they told me the package was dropped at USPS the day after the purchase which is a lie. Take responsibility for not shipping the item instead of bluntly lying.
Guys are rude and impatient. Sad, considering they do have obsolete digital recording and d.j. equipment that nobody in there right mind would purchase in the first place.
Overpriced used music store better off at a real pawn shop, they try to rob you if you sell to them and if you buy from them.
