I can’t speak highly enough about Dr. Allison! Through his teaching I have rekindled my love of playing the flute and grown my skills far beyond what I knew I was capable of achieving! He makes lessons fun and entertaining- celebrating every incremental improvement and breakthrough along the way. In addition to becoming a better flute player he has also helped me in growing as a well-rounded musician- always ensuring that the musical message within each piece is brought to life. Whether you are a beginner just starting out or an advanced player seeking to win the principal chair- I have observed him adapt his style so that each student feels challenged and encouraged along the way. Thank you, Dr. Allison, for helping me discover my musical voice through my flute!
One of favorites places to purchase my music supplies. Nice selection and friendly staff.
I have always found the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. I look forward to my lesson each week. I recommend them to anyone who is interested in taking lessons or looking for a new instrument.
A good old school music store.
It’s a really good place. Sorry, we were the ones that crashed intk the building
I am in a spot where I need a bass today. I came in 10/8/22 ready to buy. After 10 minutes, a sales associate said hi from across the room. After another 12 minutes, every staff was chatting with the one other customer in the store, ignoring us. No wonder the place is empty every time I drive by. I hate going to guitar center, but places like this leave you little choice when you’re ignored and not helped at all. I couldn’t reach the bass I was going to purchase, so I’m just done waiting for the chatting giggly employees hanging in their “clicky” circle.
When renting a violin be prepared to purchase the moment you go to a full size otherwise you loose all credit built up over the years. Such a RIP off
They hate drummers. Lost a sale because they were condescending to a young man I was with. We’ll be taking our business elsewhere.
8. Miller Music Inc
Address: 4510 N Illinois St #3, Swansea, IL 62226 , Alorton , Illinois , United States
Whenever one of my three instruments are in need of repair, this is my absolute first place to go! The staff is very friendly, and makes an effort to take it out in front of me and try to explain and show me what needs to be repaired and what they’re going to do to repair it. Prices are always super reasonable and the customer service is simply more than helpful and very outstanding!
We brought in a clarinet to be fixed. It was fixed on the spot! Great service, pleasant interactions, all around great visit. This is now our go to place for repairs and reeds!
They appear to no longer be in business.
I took my niece to Miller Music to see about having an issue fixed with her flute. The guy working looked at it for a few seconds and said he didn’t notice any issues (leaks) visible to the eye. I then asked if it would be okay for her to play the instrument for him so that he could listen, and hopefully make a diagnosis that way. He responded with, “Yeah, hurry up.” Needless to say, the instrument is still having an issue. When we purchased the couple of instruments we have, he was polite. Now that there’s an issue, “Mr. Nice Guy” left the building. I’d never recommend anyone to buy anything else from them again.
Do not put an item on consignment with this business. You will never hear from them again. Disgraceful business tactics + no communication regarding the issue. I will do everything possible to discredit this business.
Simply call to find out the brand of acoustic guitars they sold when I mentioned name brands the lady was set off very rude on the phone and hung up on me her name was Sharon

I bought an electric drumset from here. It was an overall great exerience. The gentleman that helped was a joy. He was very knowledgeable and resourceful. Answered most of my questions off the top of his head and quickly researched and found any others.
The drumset quality is excellent. It’s the same drumset that has been sitting in the corner on display. It works great. No lag, no delay, great sounds, great response, great function.
Awesome store with an even more awesome staff.
Great help with finding equipment and ordering it! Nick and Miguel were able to provide me with the right equipment and were able to answer any questions I had!
Great selection!
This location was respectful and as helpful as they could be in my experience; HOWEVER, when i reached out to customer service regarding being double charged the representative hung up in my face. I called back 3 additional times requesting to speak with a supervisor and was immediately hung up on yet again. UNBELIEVABLE.
Jared and Jenny rule!
Love ya guys!
Local musicians come here and get your instruments cleaned and set-up! Trade your old gear for different and better gear. Browse the awesome array of effects pedals ! Stop in and pick up an extra guitar or bass! Bang a gong, get it on! Listen to Don’tGetDead and Hideous Gentlemen lol.
Oh, and get your ink done next door@Piasa Body Art! Shop local! Bob Wadlow STILL has a posse!
if you want good service , go see this guy, that is all I can say
I’ve always used the gear i have obtained from there. Decent prices, great service, and best of all in my case; local!!!

I checked the item with musician friend and they said it was a great pick and price. cannot speak to their instruments or lessons. I should mention that I would take off half a star for the seeming clutter in their space — they have a lot of stock and instruments and it seems like it would be hard to walk around, but it’s such a nit-pick that I left my review at 5 stars.
My son is 4.5 and teacher Nicole is awesome. She does make it fun for him so that he does not lose interest. My son has been picking the information up so well and I am so proud of teacher Nicole and him due to my son not losing interest and not feeling intimidated my the piano. This place is very clean and professional. Thank you for being available and the wonderful experience.
It’s not a stressful environment but the instructors take themselves seriously and make sure their students–even if they are 4 years old–learn. Once, my son didn’t make an effort in class and his instructor clarified that this was unacceptable and since then my son is behaving perfectly in class. I respect the instructor’s decision and honestly am happy to see that I am not wasting my time and money on nothing.
Great instructors make a lot of a difference because they know how to break down the long solos into a few easy to learn section by section. Stop wasting your time searching for accurate free tabs online. Spend a little bit but you will improve a lot. Many of our favourite bands’ lessons to choose from.
14. Halpin Music Company
Address: 88 Northport Dr, Alton, IL 62002 , Alorton , Illinois , United States
Friendly staff, great prices, and a small business with so much to offer the community!
Small guitar section but affordable and nice place and location
Nice place, friendly workers
Great service
Buy local when you can! Give these guys a chance, they have great service 🙂
Never open on weekends! When do these people think musicians play and need gear??
My son’s saxophone has been there a number of times. The last time he got it back the band director said that it wasn’t fixed. It went back and still hasn’t been fixed for 3 weeks! I have traveled down there in the past and had several words with them. This is the last time it goes back!
It seems as though the technicians that repair instruments can’t repair the instruments correctly without having to send them out for repairs. The customer has to tell and show what exactly is broken or needs repairs. Th oo bad they are the only musical instrument repair shop in Alton

Just a vacant lot…..
20. Mojo’s Music
Address: 144 N Main St, Edwardsville, IL 62025 , Alorton , Illinois , United States
Great family oriented music store with a warm personal touch that you just don’t get today from other music stores. Highly recommend for the beginner through professionals !!
Very cool store! Visited while in the area, will come back again.
I bought a guitar here in 2002 and then bought three more since 2020. The staffs’ knowledge of products and service are second to none. They have a huge selection in all price ranges. From beginners to professionals I recommend heading in to Mojo’s!
Lots of inventory and they are willing to deal
Fun shop for sure! Eye candy hanging on all the surrounding walls. The shop’s main focus is guitars so it’s definitely the place to go if that’s your go to instrument. Workers are knowledgeable and always very helpful. It’s no breaking news that guitar shops tend to give off awkward, intimidating vibes (understandably so when you visit any shop with high pricetagged merch) and I do have to try and hide my feelings of squirminess while there, but I enjoy going and will continue to.
After years of taking time off from playing music, band break up really made me step away, I’ve decided to look around for a new guitar and rig, have gone to Mojo’s, have purchase three terrific instruments from them in the past 15 years, never had a bad experience, today, however, was not the same. I walked into a store deflated of its prior pulse, I was seen and ignored, walked around looking for what would be my next stage guitar. Two employees, yet no time to greet, or attempt to make a sale, to show products, I even made an attempt by asking what’s new, even then not a singular spark of interest in my affairs with them was of significance. I walked out of there for the last time, sad to see such a place become so cold and uninviting.
I went in to get my guitar repaired, the staff members sat at the counter and talked and ignored me for several minutes. Then after they finally looked at my guitar it turned out to be a very expensive repair so I decided to just buy a new guitar. One would think this would be cue to start selling a guitar, instead they ignored me some more and made me feel awkward for playing any guitar they had. So I went to swing city music right down the road and they instantly came to help and found a guitar that was right for me.
