OMG! What a dope place!! The music teachers are on point and in tune to student!! Thank you!!
these guys survived a time that a lot of local businesses shut down. Shows a lot about how efficiently this place is ran. Happy to see them still running a successful business based around music. Cheers.
Wonderful music store that also gives private lessons. Just about anything music can be found including 8 track tapes.
Very knowledgeable on instruments
The place is decent but it could be better. They should clean up the old stuff that clatters the hall and dust the pianos. Also, the lesson room definitely could use some improvement in terms of the pianos and acoustics. They should tune them and apply new insulation. I think the lesson room is a bit too small.
Good store and nice service
I brought in my guitar to have it restrung and it took them four days to turn it around, they didn’t even tune it. The associate who I left it with was really unorganized and, when I picked it up, they didn’t ask for my work order slip or any info—anybody could have walked in and left with it. This was my first time using their services and I likely won’t go back.
Junky store and over priced better deals online
Had a drum lesson scheduled for 2:30. Teacher showed up at 2:45 and ended the lesson 15 minutes later. Most of the 15 minutes was not focused on teaching me drumming. What a disappointment.

Address: 1745 Adrian Rd #8, Burlingame, CA 94010 , American Canyon , California , United States
Thanks for the memories. Sorry to see it end. Had many great visits to this store, especially at the old location. Best of luck at your new location.
Awesome staff and good selection!
I went by here yesterday because I had just bought a guitar at a pawn shop. Peter hooked me up with some basic education and everything else I needed. A little hard to find at the new location, but worth the effort.
tiny tiny shop. sad to see they downsized and the people renting musical instruments etc. has declined over the years.
Friendly and they know their stuff.
3. Foggy Mountain Music
Address: 104 W Main St, Grass Valley, CA 95945 , American Canyon , California , United States
Can’t say enough about how knowledgeable and helpful Larry was!
Amazing selection and a very friendly staff!
Amazing selection, helpfull staff, amazing music emporium. Highly recommend checking it out.
Great guitar lessons. Great deals, they price match guitar center too! My son got a gorgeous electric guitar for Christmas to upgrade from his child-sized Ibanez, and the customer service was great.
Best knowledgeable music store around gv they will even let you hookup and play a toon to tryout equipment they offer lessons and have a friendly helpful staff looking to fitt your specific needs and interests
Bought a dulcimer hand made in Arkansas.
Yeah not too sure about that place I feel robbed every time I go in there, yeah of course there’s a lot of good stuff there but overall there wasn’t a chance for no stars they can have one I guess
Absolutely terrible service. POOR selection of instrument strings (they never buy them) They’ve fired their most charismatic workers. The owner/”manager” will ignore you if she’s on the phone. Had an amp in there for six months that was more broken when I got it back, than when I brought it in, due to their “guitar tech” Steve. Worst music store in North California, if I could give zero stars I would.
Over priced
4. Smoke City Smoke & Vape Shop
Address: 3752 Sonoma Blvd, Vallejo, CA 94589 , American Canyon , California , United States
Very clean store and well organized. The only place in the north bay I can find CREAME vape juice. Good prices and customer service.
After going to legit 3 different spots this dude was the best – the shopping center is a little …active but the spot is legit 10/10 would go back
Many vapes & juices. Great service . & many exotic pipes bongs and pens to choose from. I highly recommend yall smokers to tap in
Okay convenient
Staff is chill AF so long as you are too.
Generally some sketchy folks around outside on that gak life, so the workers seem pretty hype if you’re vibe.
I hate to deduct a star for something out of their control, but it can be real out here, you know?
They are pretty friendly there and remember you on return trips.
Shop doesn’t have accessories for mods and tanks so when they claim to be a vape store it’s just a E-Juice and buying separate mods and tank store, good luck if something fails because they don’t have parts
Thievery is a common occurrence at this place, I have had terrible experiences there.
Place lame af bought two puff plus both fake. The printing on one isn’t even centered. They wouldn’t give me a refund after I told the dude the guava ice puff I bought didn’t even match the other real one I had in color. Go elsewhere

6. Gryphon Stringed Instruments
Address: 211 Lambert Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94306 , American Canyon , California , United States
Though I’ve never been there personally, I applaud them for taking a principled stand against harassment. They are obviously a well run business. When I’m in the area, I will definitely drop by.
I am writing this a while after having my guitar set up here. I have a Schecter Hellraiser C-1 Hybrid. It was my first “high value” guitar (certainly not as high as many others have), but for me it was a very special guitar signifying my advancement in playing. I went with Gryphon for basic setup service and to support a local business. Gryphon strings came with strong recommendations from Schecter, my guitar teacher, and various other friends/family who know the luthiers at Gryphon.
I received the guitar and found it kind of hard to play (compared to my cheaper Squire and some random knockoff guitar, both of which I was more comfortable messing with the truss rod, action etc). Being newer to guitars back then, I accepted the difficulty of play at face value, assuming that it was because I just wasn’t good enough yet to understand or play after the setup. It wasn’t until much, much later (and lots of relatively painful practice sessions) that I learned it was because the action of the Schecter was set extremely high. I have since learned how to do my own guitars; and received confirmation from other luthiers that whoever did my setup at Gryphon set the action too high. Everyone likes their action a bit differently, but it was so high for me I could barely play without pain.
So I want to put this out there, your experience at Gryphon strings varies extremely widely with whoever works on your guitar.
This was extremely frustrating because I was newer to guitars back then and really “didn’t know any better”, trusted the expert team at Gryphon, and was let down. I doubted my ability to keep the guitar and be able to play it to the point where I was considering reselling it when the problem was that it was just not set up properly.
I spent about $300 here including the setup (bought case, bought strings etc. to support local business).
The place to go for guitars.
My brother goes here, he loves it. Everyone is nice, a bit small.
Terrible people. A friend even tried to warn me not to try and shop there but, I didn’t listen. I won’t be going back after the rudeness that I had to endure when asking just a simple question. There are better alternatives nearby.
Funny how Yelp helps businesses that fire someone who spoke her mind, which the constitution allows and all the right wingers applaud….Yelp may close my profile but I am going to have my say. Yelp does not help business that get unwarranted reviews that they leave up for 11 years, while the great reviews get hidden as NOT RECOMMENDED. Face facts Gryphon…you caved into right wing pressure and do not pretend it is ANYTHING else…funny how all the right wingers on your reviews spouting their nationalist views do not get their reviews removed but those of us calling you out on your hypocritical decisions, have your supports send us vile messages. Good luck…you are going to need it. Just wondering…if Yelp is removing the bad reviews over this controversy, are they also removing the GOOD reviews related to this issue from right wingers applauding your stepping on the constitution?
Shouldn’t have to discuss politics in a place like this. The people you choose to employ may have an affect on you’re business.
7. The Music Store
Address: 4815 Granite Dr, Rocklin, CA 95677 , American Canyon , California , United States
My daughter’s trumpet had 1 of the valves checking and sticking down. For no charge, he simply took the valve apart and adjusted the plastic piece which had rotated and it works like new. So polite and helpful and didn’t charge for his time to show me how to repair if it happens again.
Has amazing lessons from really nice and good teachers. Also sells a variety of instruments
My sons mouthpiece got stuck in his trumpet. We walked in and they removed it for us at no charge. The service was awesome and they are very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back! And they have private lessons at a very reasonable charge!
Friendly staff and very helpful.
I rented a used violin for my son from the shop. They said the price was $199. The rental was $35 per month. after two months if you want to own the violin then they said they would deduct the rental amount from the original price. But when we want to buy the used violin they said the price is $299 which is hell more than a new violin. So would recommend not to rent or buy anything from this store.
8. El Dorado Hills Music, LLC
Address: 873 Embarcadero Dr Suite 1, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762 , American Canyon , California , United States
Wonderful experience, very friendly and helpful staff. They have a lot of knowledge of music and hardware!! A lot of really nice Quality instruments.
I highly recommend you stop in and take a look around. They have a staff of music teachers as well, available to teach many types of instruments.
Sebastian is great. He guided me through buying a tenor ukulele, case and tuner. Beautiful instrument that I’m very excited to learn. Highly recommend El Dorado Hills Music.
Their music selection was a bit small but they had everything I needed at a very reasonable cost.
The line was crazy long and they were extremely under staffed.
Did not have a kazoo
9. The Nicholson Music Co.
Address: 636 E Bidwell St, Folsom, CA 95630 , American Canyon , California , United States
Great local music store with very helpful and knowledgeable staff. They also fix instruments which my family has found useful on several occasions.
Nice, family run shop. Excellent music teachers and great pricing.
This is what a local music store should be like. Andy looked into fixing my guitar instead of pushing me to buy a new one. I’ll probably buy a new one from them anyway. The other salesman was so knowledgeable about guitars my head was spinning. This is a great local business that should be supported.
I haven’t been to this shop in years. Came in recently to look for a specific book. The staff was friendly. The layout of the place is a bit awkward. There is a back section with sheet music but it’s not very apparent at first. Ask anyone at the desk if you need to find it. The sheet music selection is very small.
They had a good collection of guitars, bases, and other stringed instruments. I didn’t see much in the way of brass or woodwinds. Its in a small shopping complex and parking was okay.
Large selection of guitars
Nice place for music lovers
I bought my Martin at the store five years ago and they were very friendly but I recently went in to buy a sound pick up for my guitar and the man was immediately very rude to me.
I told him I would do my business somewhere else and I walked out.
This shop is close to my home and has a reasonable selection and decent prices for its size. I don’t mind paying an extra 10% over what I would pay at Guitar Center if I can support small and local business. BUT the service here is pretty sparse and harsh.
As someone else said, customers are not permitted to handle any instruments (including $150 guitars) without assistance, and the assistance can be hard to come by. I kinda feel if you’re gonna spend 4 figures on a piece a gear you outta be able to look it over, feel it, and play it without having someone hovering over you. There are some products customers are not allowed to even LOOK AT, much less handle, without an escort. After all, it’s a music store, not a museum. I understand they don’t wanna have to discount products because someone mishandledthemt, but if that’s your policy it would be nice to have customer service that actually services the customer.
*Allegedly, and in my opinion only*
The staff is cool, and so is the person giving violin lessons. However, the owner is rude to paying customers and even to children.
The owner says you can try out guitars, but really, he will micromanage and demand you buy it if he decides you’ve “used his strings too much.” Why even bother letting people try out guitars if you’re going to make people take off jewelry and anything that could scratch the guitar, and then still find a way to act like they are an inconvenience for playing a guitar when you said they could play? Very bad ownership.
Don’t spend money here, especially on your kids. My kid was given permission to try out a guitar by the staff, and then the owner literally ripped the guitar from my kid’s hands, scolded him for using up too much string, demanded he pay for the guitar, and then kicked us out while our other kid was in a PAID violin lesson. Would give 0 stars, never coming back. By the way, we’ve spent enough money at your store previously to pay for that guitar, let alone the fact that we could’ve paid for it. Way to lose money for yourself And next time you want to disrespect someone’s kid, don’t. Sorry you can’t afford to replace $3 wholesale strings on guitars after customers try them out. Maybe just don’t let people try the guitars since you seemingly can’t mentally handle that. And before you try to lie, we were not disrespectful or damaging your property in ANY way. My kid is very respectful. We actually thought you were joking until you kicked us out. Praying for you.
10. Audio House Napa
Address: 645 Soscol Ave, Napa, CA 94559 , American Canyon , California , United States
Great job, great experience, and great atmosphere. The shop did excellent work, and Jag was quick to line us out on his different products and help guide us to finding what suited our needs best. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this shop.
I bought a JL fix 86 from jack who is the owner and he mailed it to me and I was going to have the car audio shop in my town put it in for me but they told me they couldn’t get it to work so I was worried that jack wouldn’t do me right by replacing it because I hadn’t ever done business with him in the past but I was so wrong. He did more than just replace it, he had his employee personally drive all the way to Ukiah which is 2 hours from Napa to drop it off without charging me anything extra, this shop is amazing and I will only be going through them with any further business to do with any car stereo I buy or have put in in the future, they’re an awesome honorable business.
Great people quality work
Looking for information about a radio for my truck
Tell ’em Ciaran Murtaugh sent ya!
Had windows tinted. Solid work and competitive pricing. Customer service at front desk needs improvement (same issue with last visit 6 months ago also). Owner gave me a feeling of confidence, staff less so. Would I recommend? Maybe… you will neeed some patience to deal with a wait and an inattentive staff. Looking for good tint and a owner that knows his stuff?… then go for it
NOT RECOMMENDED UNPROFESSIONAL OWNER. Audio House has a completely volatile and unprofessional owner – his policy seems to be treat customers badly and hope it goes well. He continues to rephrase the truth in response to reviews instead of making it right and actually taking care of the customer. Unfortunately all his words convey a cover up – too many unhappy customers.
Misleading coupon and owner blamed Groupon (instead of being straight up)for charging me more money to do the windows, so I guess Groupon follows the laws but not Audio House, unless you pay. No real explanation except to pay more. Owner phoned and threatened to “rip my tint off” as I was walking back for pick up, completely unprofessional and apologized nervously when we discussed it face to face upon my return, this guy is really something. I actually had to remove the 1 star rating to get my vehicle – unreal…reposting now.
Absolutely horrible service. I had my car held hostage for an entire day only to learn that their installer was not available. This was an appointment I made over four weeks ago. Avoid this establishment at all costs. Regrettably they have a monopoly in the Napa Valley and thus are not hurting for business. I will never ever do business with this establishment. EVER! If there was another choice, I would take it. And if there was a way to give this place a negative 5 stars I would do it.
The service attitude in this shop is not reliable, and there are problems. Time and time again, procrastination, shirking, and things that can be handled at one time have made me go several times. This makes me very angry. I won’t do anything in his shop in the future.
11. Cigarette Depot
Address: 3315 Sonoma Blvd # 40, Vallejo, CA 94590 , American Canyon , California , United States
Love the place, always well stocked, really friendly employees. Open on Sundays, great location.
Good snacks- cold drinks ! 23 years in the neighborhood- nice owner
Cigarette city is the best they cigarettes are cheaper and that’s where I buy my scratch tickets oh and they take coupons
Lotto tickets.
Really low prices comparatively, semi-decent disposable selection, cheap oil burners, cigs are about as low cost as you’re going to get and Bic lighters cheap as well. Not a huge place and always busy but cool, helpful staff at all times. Would recommend ☆
I don’t smoke cigarettes but my friend do. But at least my they move the boat that been there for a while. But FYI they do not accept food stamps to get some food have cash or card or else.
The guy behind the counter was rude and was not helpful at all even though I was the only person in line and was unsure what exact cigarette I wanted. I will never do business with a place that fails to provide the customer service that is expected.
They were too high on certain items in their store
13. Music Village
Address: 2971 Union Ave, San Jose, CA 95124 , American Canyon , California , United States
Great music store. You can buy or rent instruments, get sheet music and learning books, and get instruments fixed. It’s great!
When dealing directly, the gentleman at the counter was cool. However, overall customer service could improve. I came into the store and stood second in line behind a customer who needed some repairs on 2 instruments. No big deal, that is what they do. I think though to be efficient they may want to ask if anyone in line has an item they want to pay for quickly and leave. Instead, the string replacement proceeds with folks in line. After that repair was done I walked up assuming to be next. Nope, instead another customer was motioned to go ahead of me because they were in the store first. Not in line first, but in the store browsing first. Never knew until now this is how it works. Come in and browse and when you are done you go ahead of any customer in line so long as you came into the store before them. On the positive note, large inventory and staff was very helpful retrieving and holding my book in front for easy pickup access.
Great customer service. Knowledgable and helping staff
Helpful staff. Good vibe. Massive selection of sheet music books and I saw books on topics like electronic music production. One wing of the store is a music school.
I recently rented a flute for my son. My son tried the flute at the store and it seemed ok. My son came home and practiced it and it had problem. We went back and they tried to repair. My son went to the class and the Flute teacher said that the Flute is leaking and asked us to return it. I rented it on Sat. and returned it on Monday. The still charged even though we mentioned that the flute was bad.
DO NOT RENT FLUTE FROM HERE. Also they charge very high for repair charges. I compared our son’s flute for repair between their shop and another shop. They were expensive by $200.
I will neve go back there.
14. Sylvan Music
Address: 1521 Mission St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 , American Canyon , California , United States
Really friendly people, bought a guitar over the weekend and staff was pleasant and super helpful. Look for Max when you’re there, he is great.
Great selection of instruments to try, especially if you are looking for Santa Cruz Guitar Company.
Every time I go to Sylvan is a great experience. Five stars for sure
They sold me a great guitar and made it play awesome.my grandfather recommended this store and I’m proud to State he was correct. I had to trade up and spend more and take it back in a few (3) times and make sure I got a good deal (that’s why four out of five stars) but they eventually made me a proud owner of a great guitar.
Super nice and my violin looks great with jts new strings
they had kool stuff but there was this old guy who was a dick. otherwise koolspot
The worst customer service!! take your business somewhere else. I went there today they were rude, I waited and went over few guitars couple of times to buy one. Everyone ignored me and told me to be careful with the guitars! I played guitar for 10 years.. this is the worst guitar shop I ever been to!
Reply to owner’s response:
Sure! a customer with a toddler in store will rebuff help or assistance?
I never heard of this before ! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mentioned that I was looking for a guitar to my son’s size (he is 5, not a toddler), he even spoke to you asking for assistance, you were rude! another customer walked in after me, you chose to help him instead.
By banging guitars, you mean putting them back to it’s place but happen to bump in the next guitar or wall?!
Take a look at previous customer reviews they complained about the same thing, if you don’t want us to touch many guitars in the store, you could help by showing suitable ones for purchase.
How can we support local business if they refuse to help us?
I didn’t storm out, I just felt unwelcomed as no one tried to help me, just yelling from behind the counter to be careful instead of assisting customers.
Owner’s response:
This person rebuffed our attempts for assistance then she and her toddler proceeded to carelessly mishandle instruments and bang them into each other. Several times! When we kindly asked that they be more careful, they stormed off as if we were making a completely unreasonable request. Oh well, I guess you can’t please all people all the time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Purchased a guitar online. They say they made a mistake and instead of owning up to their mistake they stole my guitar and refunded the money. Then they offered to sell it back to me at their original offer. This is akin to them ripping it out of my hands and throwing my money at me saying this doesn’t count as I attempt to leave the store. I don’t care about the money, this was just a donor body for a build I’m making. The real problem is that if they make a mistake it will be you that has to deal with it. I would recommend supporting a different shop with integrity.
Customer service was poor, but we had the constant attention of the owner constantly asking if we needed something, as almost they had the suspicion of us stealing. This is a guitar store only and ukuleles. The orchestra instruments are only available to rent. Both of the employees were very annoyed with our presence. We left very quickly as the store was unsettling.
15. American Canyon High School
Address: 3000 Newell Dr, American Canyon, CA 94503 , American Canyon , California , United States
No better place to prepare your child for how the real world works today. As multi cultural and socioeconomically diverse as it gets, with every type of person working together.
Very nice looking High School. Never thought I’d ever set foot here. With my son playing basketball I’ll be here very week now.
Fanciest high school ever.
Jomon Dotson bout to put this place on the map…..hopefully at the Uof W
Okay place
School sucks
16. Jansen Music
Address: 7960 Soquel Dr j, Aptos, CA 95003 , American Canyon , California , United States
Great shop! Jody is very knowledgeable and willing to help. I bought a guitar there and took it in a couple months later because the action was high, he adjusted it on the spot and didn’t charge me. I highly recommend supporting this shop. You won’t get the kind of customer service and appreciation everywhere.
Jody is awesome.
Excellent guitar setup and repair services. Good selection of instruments for sale.
I’ve been doing business at this great store since they were on Main Street in Watsonville. Shame on you Watsonville for letting this business move to Aptos. Wide selection of all musical instruments, as well as sheet music and musical accessories. Good friendly store. Parking can be limited at times, but not always.
I take voice lessons here. Expect a bit of bleed from one practice room to the next. Nice display of instruments. Very friendly & knowledgeable proprietor.
Really great, great prices. Excellent collection of acoustics.
Unfriendly customer service. wouldn’t let me try a amplifier, and told me if that if I had the $1500 then he would let me try it. I have never experienced this at any guitar store. I have shopped here in the past and it has always been a mediocre experience. the man who works behind the counter always has a mopey attitude and their products are usually priced over normal retail. Spend your money somewhere else (Sylvan Music, Midtown Guitar Company).
17. Target
Address: 904 Admiral Callaghan Ln, Vallejo, CA 94591 , American Canyon , California , United States
The holidays hit this target hard this year! Not much left that’s good!
I FOUND EVERYTHING I NEEDED AND DIDN’T HAVE TO ASK FOR HELP.
The employee’s are not only helpful but also patient with their customers situations.
It’s the busiest Target I’ve ever seen.
Selection isn’t that great, it’s oftentimes disorganized, and sometimes the checkout lanes can get really backed up and go slow because the staff is standing around talking. But they’re friendly, and they do have some hard workers who do their best.
Have just about anything you want.
Target is a racist they and be discriminating people they pick and choose who they want to hire even tho you don’t have the experience they looking for but willing to learn it plz don’t apply here you probably won’t get a call back after the interview if they know they ain’t gone hire people they should’ve just did a zoom call instead of wasting people time and gas coming to an interview and they don’t get pick
Rude employee wouldn’t give me her name so I could complain to management. Finally got it her name is Imara. Rude as hell, didn’t want to do what she being paid to do, which was work. Dressed all kinda inappropriate and definitely not Target standard of dress code. By the way you can make purchases at guest service, if it’s ten items or less. If Imara tells you otherwise, that’s a lie. She’s the one that hides her name tag and has braids in her hair. A higher up should review video surveillance of her today.
There is never ever at least one department here that answers the phone when calling it’s sad bad customer service and ridiculous
18. Walmart Supercenter
Address: 681 Lincoln Ave, Napa, CA 94558 , American Canyon , California , United States
Encuentras muchas cosas de diferentes calidades, es una opción para comprar pero hay un poco de desorden y los descuentos que promulgan, no son tan buenos
I love Walmart!
Stores too small and has limited selection.
Great selection of products!! HOWEVER–parking lot was filthy and tore up and full of creepy male lurkers-employees were not friendly and customers were just as miserable looking. Will not return.
Horrible store, bad service
The store was completely chaos, the customer service was terrible. I asked 6 different employee’s for help with an item and got no where.
Cool little store nice selection of fender and taylor guitars friendly staff and will be back soon to buy either a American stratocaster or telecaster we will see how I feel that day!
Came here for a quick buy, needed a mic boom. Called in ahead of time and they set it aside for me, they have excellent customer service. They do however cater more to guitar player than anything else. But a killer music store!
Friendly, knowledgeable staff, and good product lineup.
Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful
Nice shop well stocked great prices friendly service
So, the 9v for my pickups was heating up. I took off the back cover and saw a tangled mess. I took it to Napa Music Supply and asked them to fix it. I paid $55 and they said they would try to put some kind of bracket to hold the battery. I
tested it at the shop and all seemed fine. Later I started noticing my tone knob had a bad connection and was cutting in and out. I took it apart and to my surprise… I found a $55 master piece!!! They took apart only 1 solder that was going from 1 wire to 4 wires… It still looks like garbage, still has bad connections and excessive solder… At to top it off… My 9v bracket is a piece of tissue wrapped around the battery and held on with a rubber band!
20. R Pals Music
Address: 820 3rd St, Napa, CA 94558 , American Canyon , California , United States
I got my clarinet at this place, no one in my music class got theirs from here. I don’t care, I think this is a very decent music store
I got my saxophone here, pretty good. He gave me reeds, my books, everything I needed so I’ll give this place 5 stars
We’ve been to this locally owned music shop for many things (violin strings repaired, bought a guitar there, bought reeds, had an old clarinet refurbished) and the owner is nice, good at what he does, and it’s affordable. Always been very happy going there for our family’s music needs. (Only downside is sometimes his shop has limited hours.)
Horrible customer service. Place sucks go somewhere else
