Excellent business to purchase from. Highly recommend.
Petr and his staff were great. Due to distance (like 4,200 miles), I had to purchase my Taylor K24ce Builders Edition Koa without playing it. Guitar owners know the risk here; not know how it sounds, how it feels when playing and photo images of a Koa guitars can be heavily scrutinized.
Petr understood all of my concerns and worked with me to insure I would be completely satisfied. He was a great example of what customer service is all about. And the staff I talked with over the phone were very genuine, kind and considerate. Seriously, my experience was absolutely great.
On a side note; some negative reviews were associated to the policy of trying out the instruments. As a consumer, I get it, but I support the policy and find the negative ratings unjust. Look; my guitar cost over $5,600. I am grateful Petr does not allow just anybody to pick it up and just crank up on it. So rest assure your item is properly cared for while waiting a happy home.
Courteous, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Very good selection of quality instruments. These folks are exceptional.
The girl that works there is a nice girl, very helpful and kind. She adds to the store. Love the guitars especially the Fenders.
They know a lot about instruments here and the store seems nicely stocked with the essentials.
At least its not a viola
Friendly and informative staff
the guitar store / repair shop side of the business should be avoided, the guitar tech talks like he knows what he’s doing but doesnt always tell you the truth,
Petr is taking advantage of being one of the few violin shops in town. He is charging $63.00 for a pair of d’addario helicore full size violin strings. You can find them online anywhere from $33.00- $38.00. I am all about keeping a small business alive and don’t mind an up charge to do so but come on. The strings don’t even come in the original packaging so he is obviously getting them in bulk. Give us a chance to support you Petr’s Violin Shop.
Worst purchasing experience I’ve ever had!!! Staff is very unknowledgable and seems to be solely made up of high school students. Petr himself is very unpleasant, always seems to be in a big hurry, and is haughty as hell. Their selection of instruments is complete crap and has serious quality control issues. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!
3. Alaska Music & Sound
Address: 1000 Ingra St, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Anchorage , Alaska , United States
You want string experts who love music and know their stuff, this is the place. Very personable, won’t try to pressure sales or upcharge you. There’s always some great deals to be found and great conversation to be had. I’m new in town and very much a beginner on my instrument, but I already feel at home here.
I was looking for a small travel instrument to take with me on trips. After calling and speaking with Will who was extremely knowledgeable, I settled on a Baby Taylor. Just a few days letter, I received a wonderful instrument that had been carefully packed and was ready to play. I would strongly recommend purchasing from Anchirage Guitat Center!
Extremely kind and helpful staff. I went in for the first time today and the environment was warm and welcoming. Got a ukulele and am headed back soon to get some repairs done on my guitar. Can’t recommend these folks enough!
DO NOT trust these guys. I paid $250. For a small guitar for my son to learn to play. After getting home and put new strings on it they sold me it exposed a huge crack at the box and neck. I called them she said it was used so as is…expensive lesson!
NEVER AGAIN GUITAR CENTER.
5. Guitar Center
Address: 2880 Seward Hwy, Anchorage, AK 99503 , Anchorage , Alaska , United States
Quick in and out visit to get new strings on my guitar. I’ll visit again for sure.
Guitar Center Has lots of things to buy and look at and I really like that place because my roommate really likes that place but I like it too
Good sound equipment, etc.
Wish we got free shipping to store.
This place is stocked with everything, almost a bit much if you are just looking for guitars. They do have a beautiful area for acoustic guitars. There are more than just guitars also. They have drums and snares, and keyboards, and even some wind instruments. All your sound system pieces and parts are piled high too. I might increase to 5 stars after they get personal that are a bit more knowledgeable, but that comes with being open a bit longer… We shall see, they’ve only been open a few months as of this review.
Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, helped me everytime and answered all my questions thoroughly. Great veriety of instruments, love this place
I was told, over the phone, they buy guitar amps. I spent 20 min cleaning my amp, 20 min driving across town, and 20 min waiting, for an incompetent employee to check someone out, only to be told that in fact, they are not buying guitar amps. Must not need a high school diploma to work there.
When purchasing microphones, go to your local shop and talk with musicians that actually know the differences between products. I purchased a mic that was $140 that i cannot return. okay. great. i was sold something by rude staff that i cannot return. i can get over this. So i purchase an XLR cord to set this mic up to my Mac desktop. IT STILL DOESN’T WORK. I’m now $165 into this and still cannot use any of the equipment I got, nor can I exchange for a microphone that will fit my needs even though everything is still brand new and not damaged. I did purchase insurance so I guess since this location sucks so much, its almost better off the break it and file a claim. i hate the staff at this location and after spending hundreds of dollars with Guitar center, i will never use this company again
Maskholes only! Refused me entry and didn’t provide a mask. I will gladly shop elsewhere

Address: 101 E 9th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Anchorage , Alaska , United States
Great customer service and experience renting an instrument. They were very helpful in time for daughters musical class.
Excellent service with friendly, very nice staff.
Excellent helpful staff. They help my son pick the right instrument for him .
Great selection, fairly priced.
Wow. They have everything you need.
Great place to shop for instruments in Anchorage.
Poor customer service from an associate by the name of Jake. He made it seem like we were a hassle and didn’t care to engage when I had questions. He sized my daughter up for a violin and then told us to go back and wait to be helped by another associate and left without informing us about anything. I literally was going back and forth from employee to employee until a lady employee finally helped us get my daughter sized for a violin. She was very kind and helpful. I don’t know her name but I know she has taught music for ten years.
Just a comment regarding people who may wander in while waiting for their car to be finished with tires etc, just next door. It wouldn’t kill you to at least say hello. Just sayin’. I changed my mind on coming back here, as it seems you really don’t need my money.
If you decide to go into the store and just look and play. The staff will be hounding you until you leave. I guess just looking is seen as potential theft.
If you want to buy some name brand instruments, sorry everything there is only a Yamaha Brand or some other underground name brand.
8. Music & Arts
Address: 4623 Old Seward Hwy, Anchorage, AK 99503 , Anchorage , Alaska , United States
Hayden Sterling fixed my wifes brothers guitar for free of charge after he told me they were no longer doing consignments as a way of showing good faith. I teach with this guitar every day and it plays like a dream.
If you look at the staff, the same year round staff members are workibg at the store and fI respected them highly before the buyout and I respect them highly now.
Hayden has time and time again done extra things for my family and me as a musician and teacher in the community.
I look at it like this. The Music and Arts store is provided a service that is not another video game store or screen time outlet for kids. They are bringing more music instruments to this state and they are doing things differently. No business that takes over another business does things the same way.
So, if the previous customer service by the same people was awesome, it will continue to be awesome. That beats the hell out of another amazon sellibg first act guitars to sixth graders. The community needs this store and the employees there are going to keep the same level of customer service going.
There will be some differences. I say judge your store employees by the content of their character and allow them the chance to either earn your business or decide to go elsewhere. No need to trash the employees who are now getting healthcare options that didnt have that before.
We are a long time client of the Music Man. Many students, many instruments, music lessons, etc. About 6 months ago I went to inquire about upgrading my daughters saxophone through their trade up program. They offered to buy back the entry level saxophone we purchased from MM and put that credit towards the purchase of the (much more expensive) next level of sax. I went in with my daughter on Friday to complete this task, old saxophone in hand right from the get go. She tried the new sax, loved it, and we went to the register. They then let me know they no longer offered a trade up program for students who purchased their instruments through MM due to new ownership. They also no longer offer a rent to own program. I was surprised they weren’t honoring any of the prior agreements or business plans that MM had offered, which were incredible for students wanting to give an instrument a try. The staff at M&A did “call the owner” who confirmed they were not honoring any former programs offered by the MM, no buyback, no credit towards new instruments, trade ins, etc. After a very frustrating visit, I ended up purchasing the new sax outright, and left with the entry level sax as well. But the business model of Music and Arts is not one that i’ll continue to visit, which is a shame because we really loved the Music Man. I will say Hayden was fabulous to work with at Music and Arts and very empathetic about parents, like myself, who were long time clients of the MM. M&A has lost my future business, we’ll be going to the Horn Doctor from here on out.
Micah is great with my ten year old son. He is a great drummer, patient, and an excellent role model. He imparts not only a solid knowledge base, but also a love of music to his students.
The only thing better than having a Drum Coach with an incredible skill set… Is having a Drum Coach that celebrates, encourages, and lifts up his students.
My son walks away from each lesson re-energized… excited about drumming … and eager to learn.
This is not because his coach is the best drummer… It’s because his coach is the best teacher who edifies and excites his students!
Micah is an incredible musician! He teaches with excellence and creativity to see rapid growth in the ability of his students! I highly recommend him!

Address: 205 E Benson Blvd #222, Anchorage, AK 99503 , Anchorage , Alaska , United States
Ivan is the only one I trust with my guitars. He is incredibly detailed and takes pride in his work.
He always does the work correctly THE FIRST TIME!!!! If you care about quality, Ivan is definitely The one who should be working on your guitars
This is the place in anchorage that you should go for guitar repairs. Don’t be confused by the sign that says Fleck, just go into Petr’s violin and guitar central.
Very helpful.
14. Savage SoulJahs Music Company
Address: 1601 W Northern Lights Blvd, Anchorage, AK 99517 , Anchorage , Alaska , United States
Went in last weekend to see what they had to offer for turntables. I wanted to buy local if I could and the owner had one I liked and even put it together for me. My husband and I picked up 4 records to start our collection and I can’t wait to go back. iTunes and Spotify are great, but I love the feeling of putting the record on the turntable and the sound of the needle first touching down.
Owners are extremely helpful and passionate. Prices are fair and competative even to online retail. Plus you cant beat buying a record and then listening to it same day.
This shop is a true Alaskan gem! They have a huge selection of new and used vinyl, tapes, and CDs. I’ve found some really unexpected rad records here. Steve provided lots of helpful information and helped me pick out the perfect vintage turntable to upgrade my setup! If you’re a collector of fine physical media, you gotta stop here. Thanks guys!
Great selection of albums, cds and cassette tapes
Very helpful
Customer Service was Awesome!
Duuuuuuuuuull. And unhelpful. Good for Anchorage, I guess.
16. Forest Wilson Guitarist
Address: 1000 Ingra St N, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Anchorage , Alaska , United States
Forest is a rare combination of skilled, performing musician… combined with being a thoughtful and patient teacher. His knowledge of music theory is huge, but he introduces each subject gradually, in an order that makes sense, at a pace you can follow. YouTube can teach you how to mimic playing along to simple songs, but Forest will help you become a musician… someone who can speak, as well as understand, the language of music on their own terms. I cannot recommend Forest’s lessons highly enough!
I take lessons from Forest. He makes the lessons fun and makes you get over the intimidation factor immediately. After 2 or 3 lessons I was amazed at my progress. My wife has taken lessons from him for years and now I do. (I got lessons and a guitar for my birthday present) Thank you, Forest! ✌
Forest is super knowledgeable and helpful. High quality lessons that are adapted for each student and their path. Highly recommended.

I took piano lessons as a teenager, when the focus was just on playing the right notes at the right time.
Last summer some 50 years later I started lessons with Iryna, she has patiently taught me that there is so much more, how to strike the keys to get the right sound and feel the music.
She is an excellent teacher who diligently explains music theory and how to get the most from my playing.
Iryna’s studio has 2 grand pianos side by side which is a great arrangement that allows her to easily demonstrate or for us to play together.
I highly recommend Iryna as a piano teacher that can take your piano playing to a higher level.
We have been with Mrs Iryna for over a year. Strong focus on technical building blocks and explains the rationale to build the foundation for a long lasting musical habits. Is very cool to see your child read and understand music theory.
I am very pleased with my daughter’s piano skill acquisition with Iryna over the past year. I love that she is able to both form a real connection with her students and impart technical knowledge appropriate to their level of understanding.
