Ok, full disclosure: this is where I work, so there’s bias involved. Do with that information what you will. We work hard to present the best store we possibly can, we go the extra mile to assist our customers, & we try to make everyone’s visit a positive experience. We have competitive prices (we are a combo store: Family Dollar/Dollar Tree) but I would bet money we have the best crew. Come check us out, we’re open 8AM til 10PM every day!
Love this store every time I’m in town I visit it they have they cutest Tshirts.
Clean store, friendly staff, good selection and price. Great for buying your cleaning and hygiene products and such. Also, it’s not packed like the big chain stores.
Most of the time I can find what I need without having to go to Walmart. There’s considerably fewer people here than at Walmart. I like that! I can find sugar free candy here and can not always find it at Walmart. I like and need that!
It was clean and well stocked. The staff were courteous and helpful. The parking lot and driveway needs serious attention.
Great Inventory, more in stock in general than the local dollar generals. This location in particular have quite a bit of home decor options, as well as having the HomeGoods section.
Freezer section is similarly large, larger than the local dollar generals as well, although they do not offer fresh produce.
Employees at this location have been nothing but helpful and nice, although I do wish that they had a self check out.
Pricing at this store can be hit or miss by a few percent when compared to other similar locations.
Nice combination store, but they are slacking on a lot of the dollar tree items.
Bathroom wasn’t clean at all
3. The McWatering Hole
Address: 36245 US-231, Ashville, AL 35953 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
One of the best local music stores in Alabama considering there are so few. The staff is knowledgeable helpful and very friendly. Great selection on percussion, band, live sound, keyboards, and musical literature and accessories
Always a good experience in here, they have everything from guitars, to drums. They have everything I need for my guitars! Strings, lemon oil, picks. Well priced!
Overpriced
Very friendly people that works here and can order what you need this is where I got my special piano
Friendly helpful
Muy bueno
If you are looking for music instruments, and accessories, i promise you, you will pay FULL retail price. No discounts there. It dosen’t matter that accessories have a 70% mark up. The best thing to do is buy it online.
My son’s band director recommended this place. Staff was nice, and allowed my son to try out a couple of instruments. However, when I mentioned we wanted to do rent to own, they said they no longer do that. We could essentially only purchase outright or finance. When I asked about discounts, I was told they don’t do discounts, but it would be cheaper to just buy the instrument outright. As of today, they still have the rent to own program advertised on their website, along with discounts and advantages of the program, which is the main reason we made the 1.5 hour drive. I also found the exact same instrument for over $200 cheaper somewhere else. People seem nice, but this was really disappointing. Please don’t advertise if you can’t offer it.
7. Bailey Brothers Music Company
Address: 4673 US-280 Suite # 7, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
Awesome place. Feels like a real music store. Great customer service.
We always go here for our musical needs. I love the place. They are always friendly and helpful. I would recommend any musician to this place.
The people at Bailey Brothers are so nice and helping people
Great customer service. Great selection. However, I was NOT thrilled to see their logo custom printed onto the snare head I bought. Would have received 5 stars if not for that. Going to remove it with some acetone.
It was my first time in the store and I had an excellent experience. David was very helpful and friendly as well as the other staff present. The online site lacks a lot of the guitars they have in stock because they get new guitars a lot so I would advise actually going into the store to see their wide selection.
This place is awesome, need customer service? DONE! Need a repair? DONE! Need to place an order? DONE! The only thing I did not like was the lack of extended range instruments. You will not be finding fanned fret, 28 fret, tap guitar, etc. You want those go to WARR guitars or order them off of a musicians website.
Waited 15 minutes for someone to help me but instead was ignored. Ended up leaving empty handed. I literally just needed drumsticks and the person at the front was aware. Will never go back.
I came in here the other day and they were incredibly overbearing and checked in on me every 30 seconds. From the second I walked in they were all up in my face and insisted on providing an address and phone number whenever I paid which I fully expect to be sold somewhere. I don’t know if they’re struggling to keep the lights on or something but the amount of customer service was way too much and came across as pushy and rude. Literally just let me shop.
No stars really. Not a very good merchant. Let someone use my credit card number without the card! Be careful!
8. Art’s Music Shop, Inc
Address: 4647 US-280, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
I have been shopping here for 30 years. Love the service and the shop.
Kind and patient staff.
This is a great place with TRUE music lovers who are so knowledgeable about their craft–instruments, local artists/acts, Birmingham stories–so.much.great history here in addition to great quality instruments, notices of upcoming concerts– you feel like you’ve stepped into a artist’s world set apart! I get my son’s gift certificates here as he upgrades and swaps guitars.
If you love music and you need an instrument repair this place is a definite gem.
Got a good deal on a used Vox guitar amp. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I fully intend to return.
Guitars are really overpriced, but the guy behind the counter was courteous.
Pretty darn rude staff, including the owner, Don. After 40 years in business I guess they’ve earned the right, though.
Pretentious and overpriced….typical music store snobbery
Tried to get my guitars worked on here multiple times. First time was an 8 string, guy said “I don’t like black guitars they scratch too easily” and then rubbed a cloth with steel wool fibers over it and scratched the guitar. GEE I wonder why! Had a pickup swap done on another guitar, put a scratch on it that went through the paint. Not only that, but he took it upon himself to do a full “set up” when I did not ask him to now I have buzz everywhere and it plays worse than it did before, then charged me for it. Oh and the pickups are also out of phase. Sorry, but that’s it. No more chances. Goodbye.
10. Guitars and More LLC Gardendale
Address: 1128 Main St, Gardendale, AL 35071 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
Good music store. Decent on the shelf selections at reasonably fair prices. Pretty sure they will take care of you if you know what you want. Great place for a good start and for fine quantity. I will be back. Thanks man! Wouldn’t hurt to regulate the humidity in your store for your wooden instruments. They might resonate more. Just because I like yuh
If you are looking for a guitar, this place rocks. Quality stuff at a fair price. My son takes lessons now, and I hope to take bass lessons soon.
Great shop with a great staff! I’ll be going back
Great inventory and excellent friendly service from a fellow named Ken. Very knowledgeable
Great sales,super repair work!
Great local guitar store. Eric does a great job running this store.
The people are nice but the stuff you buy here is garbage.
I went in yesterday and asked about a Gretch open back banjo on the back wall that didn’t have a price tag. The reply I got from the bearded gent behind the counter was ” I don’t know, probably $300 or something”, and then he walked away like I didn’t exist. The vibe I got from him was “I dont want to help you. I won’t help you”. I buy a LOT of instruments and spend thousands of dollars per year on all sorts of music equipment, but this store has shown me that they don’t want my business and they aren’t interested in having any sort of customer care. I didn’t want to go to Guitar Center anymore, I would like to buy from a local store, but Guitars and More has discouraged me from doing any business with them. My advice to other customers is to go elsewhere. They don’t want your business and they don’t deserve your business.
11. Guitars and More LLC. Cullman
Address: 103 2nd Ave SW, Cullman, AL 35055 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
Moved back to Cullman recently and discovered this wonderful little shop. I worked with Steve, who had a extremely genuine and helpful attitude. He was easy going, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I honestly have no complaints whatsoever. Keep up the great work!
The employees are very nice and friendly at Gardendale and Cullman locations. They carry more affordable decent guitars, but some sound really nice. I recommend doing business with this company.
Eric is THE MAN!!!!! I was hunting a particular tremolo bar and talking about some other problems I was having with an amp and he went above and beyond to take care of me. No need to go to the big cities for gear anymore when you have someone like him who makes sure that anyone who comes through that door is more then happy with their gear. Definitly wont be going anywhere else or online shopping anymore with service and selection like Guitars and More.
Good selection and no junk.
I’m sorry I was in a hurry and tapped in the wrong place. My granddaughter actually was the one that came in your store and was very pleased. That should have been 5 STARS.My bad I,m sorry
Stopped in to get some strings, great store good selection, Eric was awesome. Stop by and check it out sometimes!
Not a good experience at all, they have rescheduled my grandson twice, mind you we did not miss any sessions, they rescheduled us and then just took us off the schedule period. Carried my Grandson anyway thinking he was on schedule and Sage came in 10 minutes late and finished 5 minutes early…making it a 15 minute session instead of a 30 minute session as paid for. Spoke really negative to my Grandson and then refused any refund for missed sessions that THEY canceled. My Grandson loves everyone but does not want to go back, I’m saddened that because someone is a child that they are treated with less respect.
12. Homewood Musical Instrument Co
Address: 1712 28th Ave S, Homewood, AL 35209 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
Amazing place. The owner set out nine different violins for our daughter to try and we found one that was right for her.
Staff is great
Best folks around for any instrument maintenance you need!
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
Good product, Good service.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
13. Counts Brothers Music Inc
Address: 713 Waverly Ave, Muscle Shoals, AL 35661 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
Great shop had lots of stuff new and used !! Good people great store!! A must stop kinda place !!
Been before years ago but when I went this time to sell, was really low balled and honestly talked out of a sale too. So normally good, but today was a confusing visit to say the least. However, the blonde girl who’s name is didn’t get working was very nice! Would go there just for her customer service again!
The guys here are very knowledgeable on their stuff
Over priced needed Reed’s and I can get them 10 for 28-32 dollars any where. Theirs was 10 bucks as. And I had to have them that day. Nope I’m done with them
Seems like some decent prices but very stale service.the blonde at the front desk acts like it hurts her face to smile r speak someone done told her she cute 1 to many times
14. Ashville
Address: Alabama , Ashville , Alabama , United States
15. T Shepard’s Discount Music
Address: 110 NW Cleveland Ave, Huntsville, AL 35801 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
A great guitar shop. Tom has a lifetime of experience in repairing, modifying, and building guitars. He is truly an expert at what he does.
Left my mikro bass with these guys for a week and WOW. It’s crazy how experienced these cats are with instruments. Fair price and excellent service, even made a low end bass like mine just sing. Thanx guys, you rock!!
I’ve been patronizing T Shepard for almost 10 years. I’ve purchased new and used, custom-built or ‘standard’ guitars, amps and guitars and cases and accessories. Tom does ALL the work on my guitars and has always been the best. He has always been ready and able to fix any problem I’ve had with my guitars and guarantees I’m happy with the work. His Custom guitars sound and play great. I don’t hesitate to recommend his services to any of my friends. I’ve attached a picture to show what beautiful custom guitars he builds!
Great place for all you musical needs
Mr Shepard doesn’t seem to understand how to correctly repair tuning stability issues.
He may want to consider the fact that a new customer doesn’t always mean new player. He insulted me when I told him ‘guitar will not stay in tune’ I’d like it repaired’ His response was “you mean it won’t stay in tune or you can’t get it in tune?” Wow.
Sir, I’ve been playing for 38 years. Im a seasoned player. I love music. And I would have loved to find a small shop to do business with instead of that behemoth Guitar Center. Speaking of GC, I only turned to them because this same Mr Shepard was rude to me on the phone last December when I was in the market for a new rig…I mean I’ve bought a Marshall amp, a full complement of pedals, And an American Standard Strat, a Gibson Les Paul. So maybe you should reconsider to whom you are rude in the future. I gave you a chance to earn my business and you blew it. Since last December, I’ve spent over $3000 at GC,and guys like you whine about GC all the time yet you don’t seem to understand why your own business is stuck off in the boondocks, or you constantly have to move around.
Just not the place to buy music
T Shepard’s is a great shop, and Tom is a terrific, skilled, and knowledgeable guy.
The straps and strings and accouterments are top-notch.
And the selection of guitars for sale is interesting, diverse, and attractive.
Don’t be in a hurry, though, if you drop your guitar off for repairs.
And don’t expect a phone call or email to let you know about delays well past the implied pick-up date.
This is Mayberry, Andy.
Not Mount Pilot.
16. Hallman’s Music
Address: 1920 Sparkman Dr NW #2, Huntsville, AL 35816 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
The service is excellent! The staff saved my son in a bind. Highly recommend!
Great place. Great music lessons. Great staff. It’s all great.
Extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We purchased a saxophone from them. We’ve always been very helpful and they really do know their stuff
I appreciate that the owner works with a college student’s budget when tuning instruments.
This place is over rated and priced, PLEASE READ ALL FINE PRINT IN THE CONTRACT, THERE ARE NO REFUNDS ON RENTALS!!!!! I didn’t even have the instrument 18 hours never used and they would not refund me my money back. I feel tricked and scammed because of the fine print, please read and understand before you sign.
Lady was very rude, mean, and laughed at my mother tripping over a step.
I took my trumpet in to get a dent out of the valves, and without my consent the trumpet was chem cleaned. Any of the crud that was on the inside was gone (that could’ve been fixed by me washing it at home) and the debt was gone, but the cleaning stripped the lacquer off of the trumpet. Hallman’s refused to re-lacquer it unless we paid for it. I haven’t gone back since…
17. Guitar Center
Address: 5900 University Dr NW Suite A, Huntsville, AL 35806 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
Helpful associate assisted me in finding just what I needed!
Very helpful staff and a nice selection of instruments.
My wife needed a new PA for her fitness studio. I have some experience playing music with PA systems so she asked for my help. I did some on line research and found a basic pa that would work juts well enough for her needs. We went to guitar center and Jacob helped us test several systems. When we had made up our mind to settle on the system I found on line he asked us to check out one more. For nearly the same money as a system that would have juts been ok for my wife’s needs, the system he recommended is a home run. Her clients are extremely impressed. Thank you!
Came in to buy strings for my guitar. Also bought guitar pegs to repair one of my friend’s guitar.
Lots of fun stuff from inexpensive to high end
Excelente
I ordered a mini jazzmaster on the 03/10 and it’s 03/28… I still haven’t received the guitar I ordered. The guitar isn’t coming from China, there’s no good reason why it’s taking this long.
Sad excuse for a business! Mask order has been lifted, in Alabama, just not here.. but I get it. I walked around for 10-15 min, no other customer I seen. Not one worker offered to help.. I was looking to purchase a new Taylor acoustic ( which I still will) . I will GLADLY take my $2k elsewhere! Where a customer means something. If this is an inkling of what Guitar Center values, value my business walking out the door, and never coming back!!
I’m from Atlanta and thought I would go check out this Guitar Center while In town. I wished I hadn’t. The only thing clean in this store was the sidewalks outside. As a professional musician and have shopped many guitar centers throughout the U.S. this is one I will never go back too. Empty cardboard everywhere!!! Not one piece of recording products on display except a small display of studio monitors. Drum room was horrible. Just stuff stacked everywhere in boxes and nothing to look at. Probably the only thing I could see on display was guitars in the acoustic room but by the first impression walking into the store, I didn’t even want to walk anymore. Only microphones I seen on display was live microphones. Atlanta’a Guitar Centers are clean and maintained and not a rat’s nest. Not one employee ask me did I need help. Was there 15 min and said the hell with it.
18. Music City Asheville
Address: Hi-Alta Plaza, 1408 Patton Ave Ste C, Asheville, NC 28806 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
I found my new guitar at a fair price. There was no pressure.
Small store, friendly people
Great service everyone is very nice
Lots of amps and inventory
Got a small present for my son and this place had quite a selection of instruments to choose from.
Such a pitiful and shameful joke/sham of a music store. Yet another example of space that could be utilized as a dumpster more effectively than calling itself any kind of music store- without any real instruments in sight….only guitars and some percussion. This place sucks. Will never go back. Should be sued calling itself Music City for false advertisement.
Broke the nut on my guitar “from string tension” while setting it up for me. I’ve restrung it before and it didn’t break. 3 weeks later, still broken, and can’t get a solid answer on when it will be fixed. Very disappointing. No one even called to tell me it was broken, nor did anyone say “we’re sorry we broke your guitar.” Customer service was horrible. Owner copped an attitude when asked to repair it. The told me they’d order a part and fix it as “a courtesy” and three weeks and one day later, still had done nothing. In fact, they acted bothered that I even expected them to get right. Yes, it wasn’t an expensive guitar. But you know what? I bought three more guitars and 3 amps that year, and they lost every bit of my business.
Literally 9 guitars in the store.
19. The Fret Shop
Address: 309 Jordan Ln NW, Huntsville, AL 35805 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
Rustic atmosphere, great selection of guitars and acc. No drums, no loud music. Great store, no arrogant attitudes. Never understood why guitar salesmen at other stores had attitudes. I recall the days of dealing with a little arrogant hippy at Robbins, and everyone at A.B. has issues. Mexican joint next door kicks butt
I went in needing a repair on my electric bass thinking I would have to leave it for a few days. Instead they had it fixed within 30 min for half the price I expected. Great friendly staff and lots of cool gear and instruments.
Great service! My guitar sounds like an $1000 guitar after taking it there!
Would’ve been 5. Almost everyone was great, especially the guy that rang me up, and my experience was mostly enjoyable, but grey goatee was rude when I asked for his opinion on some Marshall amps.
This place don’t let you rock the hell out like I do so I feel unwelcome and very bored! Just let people rock out
Wide variety of stringed instruments. Helpful but not pushy staff. Only saw one acoustic\electric bass. Good deals to be found from a local business but do your research.
Had a warranty repair done on my sons telecaster relating to the neck pickup. After waiting for about 45 days for the new pickup to arrive from finder I picked up the guitar without testing it at the store. When I got home I plugged it in to find out that it had a major ground issue. The hum was so intense it seemed as though I was summoning lightening. I returned to the store agitated because it was clear it wasn’t even tested after the repair & $56 dollar setup. David assured me it was normal noise a telecaster makes. He said he had a custom shop telecaster that was even worse. However I played the guitar a lot before the part failed and it didn’t have any loud feedback or 60 hertz hum. (4 gen noiseless) After a lot of back and forth and him calling fender to tell them that the customer is complaining of normal noise. I took the guitar to guitar center and compared it to other noiseless telecasters and even a squire tele and it was obviously way way worse, unbearable! So I sent the guitar back to sweetwater (These guys are awesome) were it was purchased and the guitar tech there told me what the issue was. David at the fret shop had soldered an additional ground on the front pickup and that that solder joint had made contact with or caused interference with the coil wrappings. So it was replaced and now works as it should. Once again the guitar sounds beautiful and clean. I had to pay to have this repair done plus a new pickup along with shipping because it was the result of an improper modified solder failure that I didn’t approve or authorize. I can only assume David is dishonest or hard of hearing and also I’m sure he is the most unprofessional person to deal with. All the time wasted for a $30 part I could have easily replaced myself SMH I thought well it’s covered by warranty. lol.. I try to shop local because we all should but I’ll never spend another of my hard earned dollars here. I was taking lessons here as well, the rooms upstairs are kind of musty smelling just FYI.
Yes of course I am leaving the review for the appropriate business! It is my sons guitar that his mother and I bought for him. 2018 MIM Telecaster thin line deluxe. It was repaired under his name so it wouldn’t cause confusion if he needed some other warranty work done in the future also the registration & the warranty card is in his name. FYI
I’m obviously wrong about your guitar techs name but it was the same guy that has done work on my guitars, my girlfriends guitars and my sons guitars. To my knowledge he is the only tech you have or had at that time.
I took a video of the unbelievable sound that it was making, I have the part that was causing it, I have documentation from the technician at Sweetwater that repaired it and I will be happy to share that with you if you actually care. I prefer and try to support local business but I will not be treated the way I was or lied to period! That guy (whatever his name is) has 0 credibility with me. One bad apple. Everyone else was very pleasant and Andy is awesome, its unfortunate.
The white wire is not factory and was not otherized. The solder has made contact with the coil and or melted the insulation on the factory wires. It literally sounded like it was summoning lightning. Instead of saying oops and fixing it he tried to convince me it was normal. The whole experience was remarkable!
I had previously left a 3 star review due to being given a random string after one in the $15 set I had just bought was found defective as I put them on….did not want a random string, I wanted what I paid for!
Now recently I went in trying to find a small part I needed to repair my guitar. The guy behind the counter said, “I’m pretty sure the repairman stocks those. When my colleague is finished with the customer he is helping I will find out.”
The colleague in question was the owner, and when he got through he informed me, “you can bring the guitar in, we will write up a work order, put it in the queue, and see if we can fix it”.
I don’t care to pay someone to put on a small part that I can put on myself which probably cost less than $1! I drove to Harmony Sounds in 5 points and Bill (the owner) gave me one with a smile. That is twice that Bill at Harmony has helped me out by giving me a part free of charge. I know it’s a very inexpensive part, but I really appreciate Bill at Harmony’s attention and focus on customer relations. Bill gets all my future business which would have been split between him and the Fret Shop…..actually heading there today to finish paying off a $3,000 instrument I bought that day after he s graciously gave me the part I needed!
Will not return to the fret shop in the foreseeable future!
$10 for a used box. I could understand that but saying you can’t spare 50 cents of bubble wrap because you ship too much? Sad. Next time I’ll go to the big box who said they’ll give me a box for free.
20. Spicer’s Music
Address: 2140 E University Dr K, Auburn, AL 36830 , Ashville , Alabama , United States
One of my favorite music stores that I’ve encountered on the road. Well curated selection and super nice people!
Spicers music is great! Every person who works here really appreciates music and they will try their best to help you find what you’re looking for or find something similar.
These guys are awesome. They have great products and offer great lessons.
Encontré lo que buscaba
Good place
Great assortment of instruments staff very helpful my wife enjoyed the visit she plays guitar more visits to come
Great music store. Very helpful and friendly staff
Wish this was still true.. horrible experience recently when attempting to purchase a expensive acoustic guitar. 6/27/22 Went back to make a 2k+ purchase and was informed that I was given the wrong price by a salesman 2 days before. They tried to give other options but not enough to compensate for what was told to me. Very disappointed in a music store I’ve been loyal to for years.
Less than fair.
Came in with my daughter, looking to purchase a 12 string guitar. 5 employees ignore us for over 15 minutes. They were busy looking at their phones, and speaking to one another. We waited patiently but not one person even acknowledged we were there. Sad.
