This is an excellent highschool for your young one making the transition from middle school. With a challenging educational program, students have the opportunity to apply and get accepted to icy league colleges around the country.
Every concert we’ve been to has been top notch. The venue is fantastic. If you like classical chamber music, this is a great festival.

Great independent music store with knowledgeable staff
Smaller local place. Some guitars are lower priced than your guitar center. They tend to have higher end stuff compared to Guitar Center. But they also have slightly better than basic stuff for beginners. These guys have a way more impressive pick selection. I still have my first guitar from here.
This is my go-to music store through the decades. These guys know their products, are totally professional and so generous with their time with old lady musicians like me.
I tried going in a few weeks ago, absolutely insane they still require a mask to go in, they had the entrance blocked off with a table and a sign.
Helpful staff. Nice selection of guitars.
A totally legit local music shop selling name brand instruments as well as higher-end and vintage gears. There is a room full of just amps. Staff is generally very helpful and would let you try things out. Be careful reaching up for guitars and gears since it’s a small space. Always ask for help unless you want to drop something and end up paying for it.
I just experience the worst service, something that was going so good, ended up leaving the me (customer) unpleasant and dissatisfied. Im in need of a power supply for a unit which i purchased from Gelb music store about 6 years back. In fact it would’ve been my third time getting an adapter here. I saw online that they have it stock, i drove from Napa to redwood city due to familiarity. Multiple staff tried to help find an adapter that works. One older staff insist to take over. He found one unboxed among spared ones without a price tag. The older staff therefore told another staff to charge me(customer) $25 for that old charger.. (let it be known, newer charger/ adapters are between $10 and $20)
How do you come up with that figure?
Oh the black man has to pay more huh?
Omdb they’ll never have my business again.
The older staff viciously took back the adapter and said i was assisting his time. Thought you were working?..
Walked in and was asked to remove my backpack and place it behind the counter which was kind of stupid and rude. I was actually go ing to go and buy a couple of things easily worth over $400 but for that stupid policy they have, they just lost a valuable customer. Tell me, what am I going to steal? Fit a whole guitar or drum set in my backpack.
Drum Section SUCKS. Don Frank is a Crapy Drummer and a Total QUACK. He guilt trips you if you don’t buy anything. He’s exactly like the former owner of Drum World, Don Sfarzo who was rude and treated customers like Garbage. They rush you out of the shop if you don’t buy anything. Worse place with no Parking.
5. Music Box Repair and Restoration
Address: 605 Wallea Dr, Menlo Park, CA 94025 , Atherton , California , United States
Ubicado en uno de los lugares mas emblematicos de SF, esta tienda es un muy lindo lugar para visitar.
Amazing customer service, good selection. It was a nice experience and it felt good to support a local store. I got a awesome limited edition Fender strat with free first time setup (was told at the nearby box store that setups for a new guitar was extra). Best buying experience I have had in a while.
I was looking for this other used DVD store in the Haight, but I guess they closed their doors so we ended up here just walking by. They have tons of DVD’s, though some of the pricing was odd. They had better deals with box series. They have both new and used so you have to pay attention to what you’re getting. I like the way they organized the movies in categories and also had a series and BBC section.
Last time I was here they were going out of business. I tried to make them a deal on a box of records they had. Needless to say they would not budge and they kind if overcharged me on the value of these records.
I think this is one of the best music stores in town. Good service, they are really friendly every time I go in, and always seem to have all the really cool stuff you can’t find at chain stores.
Walked in there interested in trying out a few electric guitars. I picked up one and started playing and the employee was rude to me. He said “we don’t do that here”. I left and will never come back.
I live 6 blocks away from this music store. Rude and arrogant.
I go back every five years or so to see if they have changed for the better, they haven’t. I still regret giving them money 25 years ago.
I was in there with a couple band mates while on tour, the owner kicked us out because people “don’t normally play their instruments”… Lol

I took piano lessons from a few other teachers, but they simply didn’t make learning interesting and made piano feel like a chore. Alita made piano feel fun and rewarding from the very first day. She goes out of her way to make learning interesting for the student, which keeps them engaged and happy to learn. She is experienced with teaching both adults and children, as well as beginner and advanced skill levels. I stayed with her for several years, progressing from a beginner to an advanced player, and classes stayed fun and engaging the entire time. I feel it speaks to her skill as a teacher that she managed to turn me from someone who was disinterested in piano to someone who is interested in it.
Alita is fabulous! Our son has grown and learned a ton under her guidance. He looks forward to every lesson and is proud of his progress. Alita is a truly gifted, enthusiastic, and inspiring teacher!
Our two young children take piano lessons with Alita and enjoy her teaching. We appreciate that she caters to each child’s personality and interest. We definitely recommend the studio for young piano learners!
10. Gilbert Tuners
Address: 2440 Bay Rd, Redwood City, CA 94063 , Atherton , California , United States
I have had a very good experience. I bought them in 2016 and they are still intact. The tuning of my guitar is firm. I have traveled for a month several times and when I return the tuning has not moved. The best!!!
I just received my tuners and installed them. They’re beautiful and work wonderfully! I’d highly recommend them.
Are you still in business? I’m a return customer and your phone number no longer works a d you have not responded to my email ?! Please respond
11. J ACE J Music Corporation
Address: 2692 Bay Rd, North Fair Oaks, CA 94063 , Atherton , California , United States
My 6-year-old son started a guitar lesson at CCM early this year and loves it. His teacher is so patient, flexible, and professional. The staff is very friendly and attentive all the time.
Passionate teachers.
CCM is a great place to study music. Any instrument, any level, any age. The teachers and staff are highly skilled, infinitely patient and very friendly. I had never studied music before in any form. I decided to learn guitar at the age of 70. My hands were beaten up from years of martial arts training. I am left-handed. I told CCM all of this and they said “come on in.” Now, I play everything from classical to rock. I would recommend CCM to anyone who wants to open up the wonderful world of music.
14. Hornucopia
Address: 1549 Laurel St, San Carlos, CA 94070 , Atherton , California , United States
It’s like a museum! nearly everything is used and refurbished. Rows of trumpets, saxes, some flutes and clarinets, and more. Even have many models that aren’t made anymore! The people are the kindest and you can call them up to get whatever you need ready in advance.
This is one of the best, if not the best woodwind and brass shop in the country!
Knowledgeable and good quality.
My dad has played trumpet since the ‘80s and has shopped at this establishment in the past. He has had multiple experiences where the staff was dismissive and rude. Most recently he wanted to sell a few of his trumpets, as he enjoys a fluid collection of buying and selling different horns to compare the artistry of the different brands. The clerk said that the police will let him know if the horns were stolen and that the store has no liability, strongly implying that she believes he stole these instruments and wants to pawn them in the store. Living in the Bay Area I would hope that people are aware that calling the police on a black man for no real reason isn’t a kind thing to do, and that it causes a lot of worry. I would hope that this review causes the staff to consider how they treat their customers in the future. She had no reason to assume that the horns were stolen. He has a thorough, years-long knowledge and experience of being a musician, marching in drum corps, he is a veteran and plays taps with the local veterans group, and her comments were absolutely uncalled for.
Great Music School for toddlers.
Teacher Shay Rachman is very professional and excellent conducting the class.
Extremely recomendable
My kids love teacher Shay. He is very warm, professional and the sessions are so well prepared and organized. Each time we work on different songs from the CD that we received in the beginning of the semester and we also use different instruments and accessories (such as napkins, drums, bells, shakers etc.). We’ve been going to these classes for awhile now and we plan on keep going next year as well. My twins are 2 years old and they enjoy it and learn so much out of it (dancing, playing, singing). They also build their confidence through these classes. Thank you teacher Shay!
20. The Record Man
Address: 1322 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94063 , Atherton , California , United States
Best place ever to find music treasures. I found a KISS album that was difficult to find and it was a reasonable price. If you are an I Love Lucy fan, they’ve got DVDs of all of the old classics. Lol.
Truly a national treasure. The vibe of the place alone is worth the visit. Cannot recommend the Record Man enough if you love classic Vinyl or even old school games and movie in their Planet Mix!
Classic vinyl in a vintage setting but with customer parking at the gravel lot immediately adjacent to the records shop. Tens of thousands of classic vinyl records and some memorabilia and instruments. Expect pennies on the dollar for any records you sell to the store, unless classic rock albums in excellent condition. Most your records will likely be donations, but better than sending to the landfill. A smaller CD, DVD and Video Game shop is behind the record shop. Expect to be accompanied by the friendly house dogs while you browse.
Outrageous prices, no deals to be had.
Peculiar customer service with certain staff.
Friendly service. However all used vinyl is very overpriced. I spent over an hour picking out used 80’s records. They would be rated G for sleeve and maybe G+ to VG in vinyl quality. They are very dusty and not cleaned. They wanted 24.99 each for records that maybe would fetch 12 on discogs. I bought two new records for that price ea and passed on all the used vinyl. I’ll never go back.
