They treat me like family. I’ve been going to FPM since it started almost 50 years ago. Artie sold me multiple guitars and amps.
Great place to take care of ur guitars! And friendly service
Good people, prices aren’t too bad, I would recommend to someone who enjoys music, who wants equipment at an affordable price.
Everything you need, some real gems in there. Good folks
Small
Had what I needed , great place
Somebody said boys club I totally agree. They follow you around like you’re a thief. They don’t give you a chance to browse, and they’re pretty rude.
Total boys club.
Went into this place to buy my first guitar back in 1999, I did. They ripped me off and took advantage. But oh well, I guess kids are easy targets. But the thing that really got me was when I asked to mess around on a boogie they had about a year layer, they sent some kid over “so I wouldn’t break it” and that is why they haven’t got a dime more from me. Owner said that too. Being treated like that left a bad taste in my mouth. Could have earned a few grand off me easily if you knew how to treat people

3. World Records
Address: 2815 F St, Bakersfield, CA 93301 , Bakersfield , California , United States
Pat has a terrific store here for new and used records. He also sells CDs. He’ll order anything you like.
The absolute best thing about World Records is the concert venue. The acoustics are incredible. (The acoustics at the Fox Theater stink). The “No Stinking Service Charge Blues” series is great. He regularly gets Elvin Bishop, Tommy Castro, Dave Alvin, Sugaray Rayford, Tab Benoit, Samantha Fish, Selwin Birchwood Dave Alvin and more. He’s even had Mavis Staples and Rosanne Cash!
The concert prices are very affordable. No tickermaster fees!
He also rents it out for weddings and class reunions.
I gave him my Dad’s old vinyl records. Hopefully they will find a new home with someone who will love them. ❤️
The BEST place to see a concert. Their 100th concert starring Elvin Bishop was out of this world.
The Patterson’s opened and they were terrific..Man those young ladies are first rate musicians and absolutely gorgeous to boot.
Their dad aint bad either.
Smaller venue with a great selection of artists. If in Bakersfield, reserve and go. Call ahead to order handcrafted pizza and salad and go in early.
Also has cassette
don’t be mean to people because of what music they like! being passive aggressive to swifties because they have a passion for music is ironic, because record shop employees should be passionate about music as well! spread kindness 🙂
Won’t buy back records unless they’re pophlar.
Wouldn’t recommend music snobs who will make fun of you choice in music. I’d rather rather buy from Amazon then support this small business
4. Bakersfield Sound Co.
Address: 1018 18th St, Bakersfield, CA 93301 , Bakersfield , California , United States
“Hey Bakersfield, guess what? We’ve got a gem right in downtown, and it’s called Bakersfield Sound Co! This isn’t just another music store; it’s like a second home for us music lovers. The staff? They’re not just salespeople; they’re like your personal music advisors. And the live music? Man, it’s like a mini-concert hall right in our backyard. Downtown just got a whole lot cooler, all thanks to these guys!”
5. Going Underground Records
Address: 1312 19th St, Bakersfield, CA 93301 , Bakersfield , California , United States
A.J. brought my turntable back to life and I couldn’t be happier, great people, good prices and great selection.
Check this place out if you need records!
Little bit of a mixed bag, been a few times, sometimes been very pleasant, other times staff is not super helpful. I would say if you are into vinyl and doing antique shopping in the area at the big antique malls, definitely pop in, or if you haven’t been here before it’s worth your visit, but I don’t usually go out of my way to only visit this store. Rock and Jazz sections are pretty good.
Nice selection of used records
Couldn’t find everything I was looking for
Bunk
Terrible store they always got something snobby to say
Rude owner
6. California Keyboards Music Center

I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for anything to do with instruments. The staff always goes out of their way to help us and make sure we are happy when we leave. Great customer service and very polite and never ever do they make you feel like you are a bother even when it’s something small you need assistance with. Highly highly recommend this business ! I wish I could give 100 stars they are that amazing! Please if you are looking for anything to do with instruments go here first!!!!!!!!! Thank you to all the amazing staff you are absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!

We went in to talk about options for our 12 year old daughter who decided she wanted to play a flute. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We had planned on renting and ended up purchasing a great starter flute at a price we couldn’t pass up. They also assisted us in our needs for finding a piano tuner. We will definitely return for any of our music needs.
Great service. Instructors terrific. Friendly family run place.
Those who feel they got screwed most likely feel that way with many other businesses…choosing a trumpet or tuba, etc is solid evidence
Buena atención con sus clientes y familiar.
Tl;dr – Was promised same day service. Left without anything done 4 days later.
I phoned California Keyboards on Tuesday morning and asked, “If I buy a pack of strings, could I pay an extra fee to have you restring my guitar?”
The person on the phone replied, “Yes. OR if you have your own pack of strings, you could just bring the pack and the guitar in and pay for a restring.”
This was great news. I had a bunch of packs of strings since I order in bulk.
“How long will that take?”
“If you bring it in the morning, it will probably be done early the same afternoon.”
Perfect! I was really strapped for time, and I live up the street. This seemed like it was going to work out really well.
I take my guitar and strings in. They put my name in the system. I get a printout for a work order, and I’m on my way.
Two days go by with no phone call, so I call them. It isn’t ready. I believe there was no explanation beyond that they just hadn’t gotten to it yet. So without anything else, I hang up and think I’ll either get a call later that day or early the next morning.
I’m writing this on Saturday — 4 days after dropping it off — and no phone call. So I drive up the street with my purchase order to get my guitar whether it’s done or not.
Surprise: It isn’t done.
The only saving grace is that whoever the manager on duty was offered a free pack of strings for my troubles which I declined since I already buy in bulk. He then pivoted to offer a discount on the next repair if I mention this instance, but I’d only bring my guitar back here if I were desperate at this point.
The fact of the matter is that I personally know people at the other music shops in town, so I made a special effort to come here rather than support my other friends’ businesses. Granted, it WOULD have been convenient for me due to the location, but it ended up being more headache than I had planned.
I didn’t feel like a priority. And I wasted more time by coming here rather than just doing it myself or taking it to a friend to support THEIR business.
Service is bad. Called in a day early for a part and they told me to come in the next day they said they didn’t have it because of a “mix up”. My band grade is dropping since I can’t practice without the part I need.
Very bad service. I try to stay local and support local businesses but this business has very bad business practices and will put fraudulent debt in your name. Do not let them take automatic payments from your account!
7. Guitar Center
Address: 3428 Ming Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93309 , Bakersfield , California , United States
always a great experience with the staff. Great customer service.
Awesome place for real they’ve got more than just guitars!
Very nice place! Very informative on instruments and equipment. Really anything you need music wise. They even have lessons you can take or a spot to try out an instrument before purchasing.
Joseph the drum instructor is very nice and patient. I will highly recommend him.
Kind of slow business, but friendly employees who are happy to assist.
very quick to take your money on purchasing of items but and I mean a big butt your employees are having too much fun playing guitars or with their friends on the guitars need to concentrate on the customer you never know who comes to the door I’m the lead singer for the two tone Rangers I came in to buy a guitar but we had to chase a guy down take one down that’s not very good for your business line and when you have Headliners coming in incognito to possibly purchase one of your high-end guitars and they’re in the acoustic room playing or guitars I probably will not do business with you no more in Bakersfield California I had to go over the front porch music to buy the guitar that I was interested in buying the price was the same but their willingness to take care of their customers is a 10 out of 10 I only give you one star if there’s anything left I would even give you that as they say in Japan sayonara round eye
Dishonest and ignorant staff
Less than 2 weeks ago, I bought an electric guitar for $650. TWO DAYS after my purchase, I went to return it knowing there is a 45 day return policy expecting my money back. However, that wasn’t the case. Never was I told there’s a 15% deduction from my purchase if I wanted to return it. I didn’t even play the guitar within the time I had it. As soon as I let the manager know I was going to buy a guitar, he completely forgot that I was a customer, and didn’t go over the return policy guidelines. With that money I could’ve bundled an amp, and an electric online.
Not good.
8. Nick Rail Music
Address: 5127 Ming Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93309 , Bakersfield , California , United States
The employees were kind, helpful and very knowledgeable! I will highly recommend Nick Rail Music to others!
The people were very polite and helpful!
Friendly and helpful staff
They were good when they first opened in Bakersfield. Now… After nearly 4 months of waiting, half of my instrument repairs are coming back. Great company as long as you aren’t expecting anything timely.
Although I will say they are helpful and polite inside the store, I’m rating them a 2 because they promised a part that I ordered almost a month ago would only take 7-10 days to come in. It has now been over 25 days and it’s still not in stock. I finally decided to order it on amazon and I will get it tomorrow.
Professional, kind, patient and HIGHLY knowledgeable in music and arts! I highly recommend Mrs. Laura Best for your music learning, arts and framing needs! You don’t have to look or drive far for one of the best services in town. Best Music & Arts has you covered 100%!
Laura Best is an amazing music and art teacher! Spectacular talent! She makes every class fun an enjoyable. What a wonderful soul to give Bakersfield a taste of beauty.
If you need a custom painting of pretty much anything, this is the place to go! All of her artwork is absolutely beautiful! Her paint nights and art classes are also super fun for both children and adults.
10. Bakersfield Music & Recording Studios

Great high quality recording for my soundtrack album! Receive nothing but compliments for the recordings. Thanks for using the best equipment and keeping your prices fair!
No sense of hip hop .. does that guy realize he’s in Bakersfield. Someone get him sone Buck, Merle and Wynn… Maybe then he’ll get it. Y’all rock! Keep doing your thing!
Great service
No sense for hip hop music
11. Renee B. Cook Musician Songwriter
Address: 2710 Cherry Laurel St, Bakersfield, CA 93304 , Bakersfield , California , United States
Carl’s work is clean and reliable. His turn around time is fair and reliable. His cost is fair and reliable. In this type of service reliability is king. I’m not sure if there another repair shop in town but it doesn’t matter.
Needed my Randall amp head repaired. Dropped it off and was repaired in just a couple days. They even repaired the handle for it which I didn’t ask them to do but they did it anyways which is so awesome. I highly recommend this place.
Didn’t do anything it says car amplifiers, so I ask and they said they do not do mtx amps.???
This place is so rude. They hung up on me a couple times and also cursed at my friend just because he didnt like the questions he asked. So unprofessional. Also asked to speak to the manager and they got mad and cursed at me more and hung up.
13. Bakersfield Music Lessons
Address: 1828 28th St, Bakersfield, CA 93301 , Bakersfield , California , United States
Mr Jay is the best piano teacher in town! He teaches the basic skills, he keeps his students interested in learning and makes every lesson fun! He is a very talented piano player and teacher! You can tell he loves to teach and it shows in all his interactions with his students! If you are considering music lessons, this is the place to go! You will not regret it!
Bakersfield Music Lessons is just what our town needed. It houses some of Bakersfield’s most talented and experienced musicians ready to teach you or your children the instrument of your choice. They will work around your busy schedule and the schedules of you children. Jay Smith is an absolute delight as well as the rest of the staff. I highly recommend lessons from any of the instructors at this school.
While we were driving away from piano lessons, my daughter said “Everyone should have Mr. Jay as their piano teacher. He makes learning fun.”
Coming from a 13 year old this speaks VOLUMES! ”
We are 100% thankful for Bakersfield Music Lessons.
14. Bakersfield Music Hall of Fame
Address: 2231 R St, Bakersfield, CA 93301 , Bakersfield , California , United States
Every Tribute band and performer(s) have been outstanding.
Very nice venue for a show. Small but adequate and acoustics are very good.
The only thing I have to say negatively is they need a good light and sound tech.
Historical musical building remodeled with auditorium for shows. Gift store with shirts and coffee cups. Area inside to rent for parties or receptions. Had a tour
15. Alan’s Kern Guitar World
Address: 1211 19th St, Bakersfield, CA 93301 , Bakersfield , California , United States
Wrong Number. I didn’t talk to anyone there, but when I called the number, I got a guy who sounded none-too happy when I asked if this was a music shop. Sorry!
16. La Jaula Music
Address: 2105 Edison Hwy, Bakersfield, CA 93305 , Bakersfield , California , United States
Mariachi Sol y Luna is the best mariachi in town. They are very professional, responsible, and sound outstanding. My family and I have booked them for multiple events and we have not been disappointed. I would totally recommend Mariachi Sol y Luna for any event.
Wonderful! Voices like Angels
