These guys are great, simple as that. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I will definitely be doing repeat business.
Love this guitar store! Dustin is very helpful and professional.
My kids and I love this place. The owner Dustin is really helpful and makes you feel at ease and enjoy the time you’re there. Definitely worth stopping by
Accused me of stealing my first time in the store, because of the age I supposedly look. Even tho I had items on the counter, and clearly was ready to pay. Not real great service in general. Rude. Won’t be back.
Avoid this place of possible. Since they open at 12 o’clock I sat there till one o’clock and they had yet to open I get the whole musician hours thing but. Not opening for an hour there’s no excuse besides pure laziness. I refuse to give such a business my money and you earn this one star.
Do not buy a guitar from this store unless you know 100% what your buying is worth what your paying.
I needed a guitar and when there
Payed 300 for a guitar came to find out it was a 75$ guitar from wall mart
Refused to do any return and stated to me
“ that’s just the way we do busyness”
I replied that he had lost a customer and if he continued to do busyness this way it would catch up with him.
Just a heads up.
This place will get you if you let them!
3. Anchorage Guitar Central
Address: 1410 Hyder St unit a, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
Will was great! He took a lot of time to educate us about guitars and the various makes and models. He even tuned up a guitar and gave us a wonderful demo. We will definately be back!
Nice store. Knowledgeable staff
DO NOT trust these guys. I paid $250. For a small guitar for my son to learn to play. After getting home and put new strings on it they sold me it exposed a huge crack at the box and neck. I called them she said it was used so as is…expensive lesson!
NEVER AGAIN GUITAR CENTER.
4. Mammoth Music
Address: 500 E 5th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
These guys are great, I walked in there not knowing what I was looking for at all and they helped me with ease. They took their time to explain everything to me. Very understandable and and will help you find exactly what you’re looking for.
Great place!! I used to go to Guitar Center, but I totally changed my mind once I started taking my gear to Mammoth for maintenance. Plus, they have amazing gear and doesn’t feel like walking into a McDonald’s like it feels when I walk into GC.
Support your local economy!
Great shop, very helpful people, keep up the good work!
Never seem to have the basics
Good selection, fair prices, knowledgeable staff. There is no better place in Anchorage for guitar and drum gear.
knowledgeable staff. amazing array of musical instruments
Nothing but problems. Been going to this place strings and such for 16 years now, but I would say I’m officially done. Would prefer to buy local but…
Staff is unpleasant unless they think you will be spending lots of money. Not knowledgeable. Not courteous. The only thing this place has going for it is a lack of competition.
absolutely horrible. rude and had no idea what they were talking about. they tried to have an unlicensed person work on my amp for $75 after they are the ones who messed it up to begin with. i will never go back and i advise anyone else to find another music shop. this place is garbage.
I turned in my guitar for been calibrated a month ago and they didn’t work on it. I never received a call from them. I asked for my refund.
5. Petr’s Violin Shop & Guitar Central
Address: 1408 Hyder St Unit B, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
Best place to go for help with your violin, and getting violin accessories.
Super friendly and helpful staff
I have needed a violin upgrade for years and everyone knows a good violin isn’t cheap. Finally!! I’m in the market for one. I have been doing business with Petr for years so he already basically knew my style. Petr has always had a pretty good selection and straight up I did shop around. I found what I wanted after 2 days of heart felt searching and playing. Petr even told me to my face if it’s not the right one don’t get it. I found the right one, he showed a touch of mercy on the price and it feels good to feel good about a big purchase on an upgrade years in the making. I am a completely satisfied customer that walked away with the right instrument. Hopefully it doesn’t take years for my next upgrade, regardless if it does I know where to go.
Was very happy they restrung a violin on the spot for the price of the string.
Best place
Friendly and informative staff
Went to this shop while visiting family in Anchorage…I’m from Ohio where there is plenty music shops….This is the only store I have ever visited where they didn’t want you to try one of there electrics without assistance…and they were Mexican guitars not even USA models….so I took my business to Mammoth in Anchorage, there I was free to try guitars. Employees were nice, but when I wanna guitar…give me space and let me try without supervision. Thanks Mammoth!
Nice selection of stringed instruments.
Young woman at front counter helpful, smiled, and made eye contact.
Guitar room guy not engaging or helpful, more interested in his phone than engaging with me.
Every guitar has a “do not handle” sign with a sign that there is a 5 minute limit on handling a guitar. No place to sit and try an instrument.
Other staff did not acknowledge me at all.
I was the only customer at the time.
I would maybe go back if I needed something but the customer service was absent at the time of my visit.
Went to them and they told me the cello I got from amazon was no good, wanted to sell me a 1100 cello. Went to horn doc and it was fixed.
6. Redbox
Address: 1907 Seward Hwy, Seward, AK 99664 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
Ash is an excellent teacher and worked well with my highly anxious ten-year old son. He always felt better about himself after his lessons with Ash. Great people running a great business!
Ash did a great job fixing my daughter’s violin. He charged me exactly what he quoted me and gave me instructions. The store is clean and looks great. They also do some lessons here too.
Helped me pick out my very first guitar. was a wondrrful experience, affordable,
and great employees.
8. Matanuska Music
Address: 280 N Willow Dr, Wasilla, AK 99654 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
A good group of young men who have done repeated quality work on a number of my electric guitars. Thank you for your prompt service and attention to detail! It does not go unnoticed. =0)
Very helpful and kind staff!
Staff are very helpful and seem very knowledgeable Will most definitely be a repeat customer
Nice place and staff , well fast and I will say Johnny on the spot .
Great prices, great service. Good selection of guitars. Not much selection on other instruments.
Unfortunate that this is the only shop in town. They’re pretty expensive for almost everything. I’ll stick to Amazon.
These Guys has absolutely no clue about what they’re selling/doing.
Better drive 100 miles more instead dealing with these non professional “sellers??????”
Keep you money don’t buy here
Purchased a guitar and amp with all of the accessories for a new player. Upon picking up the guitar, the amp I picked out was sold, and another amp was put on the table with no explanation of where the other amp was. The amp was a decent brand, so I didn’t say anything, and the amp was also new. After using the amp, I had significant issues that I had to troubleshoot. Nothing worked. I returned them amp and explained what I had done to troubleshoot, and they did not want to look at it. I asked for the original amp I picked out, and the staff became angry and aggressive. I attempted to calm things down and solve the issue, but then they gave me the amp that I had originally played and asked me to leave. I will never return.
9. Ukanuzit
Address: 339 5th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
Lots of fun stuff and great prices. Makes a wonderful rainy day treasure hunt.
reasonable prices
quality used goods
Great customer service!
Nice staff let us bring are puppy in. Price were fair compared to other thrift stores.
They have a little of everything….cheap!
helpful an pleasant thank you ESB
I have occasionally shopped here for years. Recently the owner has adopted a attitude towards me without cause as I have done nothing other than be a polite patron. I will now discontinue the latter as there are alternatives.
10. Wood and Wire Guitars and Music
Address: 3020 Glenn Hwy, Palmer, AK 99645 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
FINALLY! A music store in palmer!
FINALLY! A music store in the valley Who carries Better brands!
FINALLY! A music store in the STATE that’s not trying to rip you off around every corner.
All I can say is, Finally.
I really like this place, just really good vibes here the people were really nice, really easy to talk to, very informative and there was some really beautiful guitars there as well. I haven’t gotten my guitar repaired there yet but when I do I will definitely review that as well.
Great place,,,good helpful staff
With excellent equipment.
Two thumbs up
Nice little music shop. Friendly owners and a pretty cool selection of guitars.
11. Gypsea Treasure Trunk
Address: 338 4th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
This thrift store is amazing! Right when you walk in, you’re met with all kinds of treasures. If you are in Seward you HAVE to stop by. You’ll find a thing or two that you didn’t know you needed!!
Nice place with pleasant people and always treasure to be found, good selection of dvds.
Absolutely love this boutique! The staff, owner and vibe are all so Seward. Perfect place to find a quick accessory, or to spend hours browsing all of the goodies. Love, Love, L-O-V-E this Seward gem!
Super cute decor. Overpriced on most things. REEKED of weed, especially in the rear where the clothes are. They were BLASTING explicit music (don’t get me wrong, I love gangsta rap), but in a place of business where there were kids- it may be the way the world’s going, but we put anything we were going to buy down and left. No thanks.
12. Resurrect Art Coffee House
Address: 320 3rd Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
Stopped here for an expresso drink twice during our stay in Seward. My favorite was the Nutty Irishman. Good atmosphere to sit back and enjoy the drink. Also a cool selection of art (I bought a coffee mug). Good outside seating if weather is ok.
Whenever we are in Seward we always get a goos cup of coffee here. Has been a tradition for o er 2 decades.
Loved it
The WiFi is super slow. Coffee is decent. Setting is lovely. If you’re coming to chill and read a book, this is your spot. If you need to get anything done using WiFi, don’t waste your time.
Loved the setup, but as we were running late in the day, they had limited food options.
Nice atmosphere. Good coffee. And a coffeehouse dog named Beans. Crowded and a little slow because the place is popular with locals and visitors. Worth the time.
Coffee is just ok.
Nice place, good coffee, slow barista.
They were super busy, but I had to wait 15 minutes for a black drip coffee. I’m not sure if they were brewing a new batch or distracted with other drink orders, but this doesn’t happen at the larger brand with the green logo!
A black coffee should be poured immediately, not put at the back of the queue.
This is a coffee shop misstep and “pour” customer service, and isn’t the expectation I have when I buy drip coffee.
13. Primrose Provisions
Address: 501 Railway Ave Suite B, Seward, AK 99664 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
The caprese sandwich was amazing. So good we had to order another one (and another glass of wine)! And that view ..
Excellent food, drinks, and conversation!
Such a nice little place. Great charcuterie and snacks, and a great view of the mountains from one of the bars! Clearly, a lot of thought and care went into this adorable wine bar. Thanks for having us!
Such a great spot with yummy food and a cute, French type atmosphere. It reminded me of the last time we were in Paris! I had the Caprese sandwich and the burrata plate. Both were amazing. I went back the next day because they were so good and got the same thing. Unfortunately both times I went in, the woman at the counter was beyond incredibly rude, to both myself and my mom when she went in a separate time, which is always a bummer when you find a great spot. Everybody has bad days though, so hopefully she’s having a better one 🙂
I wouldn’t expect a place in Seward, AK to be pretentious but you pulled it off. Unwelcome and rude was how we were greeted when we entered your establishment. We were more than happy to patronize your establishment and purchase the some of your wares which we did in order to use the restroom. In speaking with you I learned the “vibe” your going for in the wine bar wasn’t the one we put off. So sorry we didn’t measure up to your standard, however as a latrine your establishment is adequate.
14. Seward Alehouse
Address: 215 4th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
Free pool and popcorn cheap hot dogs and drink specials and great service please tip your bartender
Fairly pricey for drinks, $7 for a small can of beer and then $13 for a bottle of beer. Atmosphere was definitely fun for the people and drunk watching!
Fun place!
Zero stars
“Bouncer” grabbed my arm to pull me back as I walked in to ask my ID. You are not allowed to put your hands on anyone. Then refused to let me in with a military ID. Wanted a state ID only. Perfect place if you want to be man-handled and not military-friendly. Would not recommend.
served a drink full of bugs by ashley. beware.
15. Bear Creek

16. Mermaid Grotto and Kraken Lounge
Address: 412 Port Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
Fantastic place to catch a quick bite to eat. The jambalaya was tasty, cocktails were good, and the halibut sandwich was excellent!!!
Good coffee, friendly staff. Nice lighting which makes it a good place to relax.
People in Alaska seem to have their own version of “island time” so don’t be expecting things to get done fast.
Just chill
Great place in Seward. Worth the price
Halibut burger and ahi tuna poke were pretty good. Best option in Seward.
Nice decoration. We ordered:
Shawarma, it was good;
The special of the day: spaghetti with parmesan, it had a lot of sauce and sugar, expensive but not good for the price.
The chocolate cake was very good
Stopped in for lunch on advice from a local. The rice bowl is great and so was the fish sandwich. Very cool atmosphere and great view .
Not going to lie, I wouldn’t waste my time or money here. Over priced, staff didn’t know the menu, food was ok (at best). We showed up to get brunch and there was 7 minutes till breakfast ended, and they refused to serve us breakfast because the “order wouldn’t be in on time”. Also, they were rearranging the seating for a solid 45 minutes. So we got to listen to metal chairs being dragged across the floors for that long.
Do not recommend terrible service ask for check waited and waited waitress was to busy chatting ended up going to bar to ask for it.
I wanted to love this restaurant and selected it for the high rating, but was extremely disappointed. My husband loved the chowder of the day and his fish tacos were alright, but my seas the say salad was so salty that it was truly inedible. I ordered a different salad since I couldn’t eat it and asked for bacon on the side, but it came out with a lot of bacon on top. I ended up spending over 30$ on salads – one inedible and one meh. The wait staff was not very responsive and I had to wave to get her attention twice. I wanted to love this place but couldn’t.
17. Lighthouse Cafe & Bakery
Address: 1215 4th Ave, Seward, AK 99664 , Bear Creek , Alaska , United States
The caramel pecan roll was so good that I went back today for another one.
Great food, great staff
I can say this was one of the nicest staff in the whole area! The food and service was excellent!!! They are not ashamed of their faith and I for one greatly appreciate them taking a stand. Definitely will be back.
Super sad when we went in today. Read all these great reviews but when we got there this guy, not sure if he was a server or cook, who was short and had glasses was super rude! He flatly asked if we wanted to order and then I walked up to the counter and asked how his morning was going and again, flatly said “great” and with a sigh shoved a menu at me and then flipped it on my hand and said they weren’t gonna make breakfast because it’s lunchtime now. My group and I decided to head out and go somewhere else, even if it meant waiting a half hour or more for food. Restaurant itself is a bit outdated and the service needs work but I hope to go back one day and actually try the food. Review for Chattermarks posting shortly which is where we ended up going. Even with short staff and nonstop, the service there was 5
Wow. Huge pastries hot coffee, friendly folks. What’s not to like!
Bedienpersonal leider nicht freundlich.
Horribly rude man who was clearly annoyed that customers were in line. He embarrassed a young man by yelling loud enough that his card was declined. We then placed our entire order (2 cold subs and a salad). The rude man then tells us our order will take 30 plus minutes, so we are better to go elsewhere if we need to be anywhere in a certain time frame. Honestly, I would have waited for the food (prefer to shop local), but the man at the counter was so horrible, I would not recommend this place to anyone.
The service was awful and rude. Im talking they served us on dirty plates, gave us no silverware and rolled their eyes when we asked for atleast the locations of the items we needed to eat our meal. Oh, and instead of explaining the menu in any way (because none were available) they just let us order ala carte and charged us over $50 for less than 3 full meals. Disgusting.
Terrible food! Asked for salad with chicken salad…instead of the chicken Caesar…because I have celiac disease. Someone was so nice to come and ask if I was allergic to nuts. I said no. What I received was a $16 bread crouton salad with chicken salad plopped on top…all tossed in Caesar dressing. I went up front to let them know it was a communications error on both our part…but for future reference…celiacs are allergic to BREAd! He seemed to understand…but the woman…cook?…owner? started bitching at him and me. As I walked away from counter I heard them laughing and making fun of me…saying they aren’t that kind of stare. My husband got a very dry $20 salmon burger. Well…they pride themselves on salmon in this state. Beware of this restaurant. I do realize pickings are slim in Seward…but really????
