Great place, so happy this place is in Gardendale. I have been taking guitar lessons for here for awhile, Tim is a great instructor. Love it
Bigger selection than I expected
Wonderful service ! First time coming in today to buy reeds for my son who has started beginner band. They had just what I needed at good prices ! Staff knowledgeable to know what I needed. We will be back when we need more reeds and supplies. What a great store in Gardendale !
Friendly staff and good service for a small buisness . your go to place if you dont want to drive a 100 miles to Guitar Center store .
Great inventory and excellent friendly service from a fellow named Ken. Very knowledgeable
Great local guitar store. Eric does a great job running this store.
I went in yesterday and asked about a Gretch open back banjo on the back wall that didn’t have a price tag. The reply I got from the bearded gent behind the counter was ” I don’t know, probably $300 or something”, and then he walked away like I didn’t exist. The vibe I got from him was “I dont want to help you. I won’t help you”. I buy a LOT of instruments and spend thousands of dollars per year on all sorts of music equipment, but this store has shown me that they don’t want my business and they aren’t interested in having any sort of customer care. I didn’t want to go to Guitar Center anymore, I would like to buy from a local store, but Guitars and More has discouraged me from doing any business with them. My advice to other customers is to go elsewhere. They don’t want your business and they don’t deserve your business.
The people are nice but the stuff you buy here is garbage.
3. Homewood Musical Instrument Co
Address: 1712 28th Ave S, Homewood, AL 35209 , Bear Creek , Alabama , United States
Bob Tedrow is the best. From repairing my grandfather’s family heirloom guitar, to helping my daughter pick out a ukulele, Homewood Music is the perfect local music shop.
Nice people work here I’m a traveler and came in with little funds and they made sure I had something worth my time and money before I walked out their door
Good product, Good service.
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
4. B&C Music
Address: 314C Billy B Dyar Blvd, Boaz, AL 35957 , Bear Creek , Alabama , United States
Attendant was nice enough and they had what we needed.
Tiene de todo y hasta piezas separadas
If you’re in the area I’d highly recommend stopping by over going to a big chain like guitar center. They’re honest, affordable, and extremely helpful. I believe they may even teach lessons in the back room. I forgot to ask because I live in Huntsville so I was just glad I was already in the area. 5/5 will go back next time I’m in the area
Eeeeh
Has variety of instruments and types of music. Carrie is a bubbly personality there
Good site
Awful place with cheap brands and overpriced / broken used instruments.
The people are not friendly, the merchandise is overpriced, some equipment is not even new (and it is damaged) although they don’t disclose that information, and getting around in a wheelchair is next to impossible. The lady at the register didn’t know anything about the equipment. It is definitely worth the drive to go somewhere else.
this place is burnt!
5. Guitars and More LLC. Cullman
Address: 103 2nd Ave SW, Cullman, AL 35055 , Bear Creek , Alabama , United States
The gentleman really help my son is was very experienced, we enjoyed the visit
Today was our 1st time in the store, and we had a great time! Eric is so knowledgeable and kind.. as soon as we walked in he said this isn’t a museum so don’t be afraid to take anything off the wall and try it out! He gave us a preview of the black star amp and I’m a tell you that is the best sounding guitar amp I’ve ever heard!! Now my husband really wants one 😉 but I’m gonna tell you Eric is very helpful and knows his stuff! So if you just need strings or lessons or to know any general information about buying a guitar or anything musical call him or take a drive to them it’s worth it… Cullman Alabama
Very friendly staff jesse priest is the best employee very helpful
Nice clean store
Good merchandise friendly people good Price’s.
Wouldn’t go here for the lessons, good service though.
Not a good experience at all, they have rescheduled my grandson twice, mind you we did not miss any sessions, they rescheduled us and then just took us off the schedule period. Carried my Grandson anyway thinking he was on schedule and Sage came in 10 minutes late and finished 5 minutes early…making it a 15 minute session instead of a 30 minute session as paid for. Spoke really negative to my Grandson and then refused any refund for missed sessions that THEY canceled. My Grandson loves everyone but does not want to go back, I’m saddened that because someone is a child that they are treated with less respect.
6. Emiron Music Inc. dba The Yellow Guitar
Address: 806 Bank St NE, Decatur, AL 35601 , Bear Creek , Alabama , United States
Great place for all your music needs. Guitars are fantastic, and deals galore. All the guys are great on there.
Very friendly place!
My brother came down from Tennessee to visit and took me in here and suprised me by purchasing me an electric guitar, amplifier, and everything I needed to get started learning how to play guitar. The store has just about everything you need and the staff are very friendly and seem to know a lot about music supplies and accessories. Overall, was a great experience for the first time being in there and we came in close to their closing time but they weren’t trying to rush customers out of their store. Would recommend and come back again for anything else I need.
Nice staff clean store and can stock items for regulars. Mostly past era guitars though. Otherwise it’d be 5 stars
There’s one guy there (Chet ? Chester?) who is really nice. The older gentleman comes across like he’d rather be in his office or something rather than dealing with the public. Seems he can’t keep young and talented help either, which may also be a result of his extremely unapproachable personality. I agree with the other reviewer … Decatur needs another music store.
It’s music for crying out loud … the atmosphere does not lend itself to the encouragement of instrument try out. It always seems so cold and uninviting. Not to mention that the selection is poor. No used instruments either.
Exelente
Rude did not want to wait on customer like it was bothering them
7. Martin’s Music
Address: 5000 US-280 Suite C, Alexander City, AL 35010 , Bear Creek , Alabama , United States
Best customer service in the state. Andrew can do it all and he treats his customers like family
Stopped at this location to get a part to repair my guitar. Very professional and helpful. Owner was very nice and went out of his way to find me the right part and gave me an excellent deal. Highly recommend this business to anyone.
Andrew is the most knowledgeable person I’ve come across on instrument history and repair. He will be the only one that repairs any of my equipment from here on out.
8. Guitar Center
Address: 5900 University Dr NW Suite A, Huntsville, AL 35806 , Bear Creek , Alabama , United States
Great service, great atmosphere, just got a baritone ukulele here and a string popped off as I was tuning it for the first time, zipped down and they had it resolved in 30 mins or less. Love it, will be back.
No other place I would shop for instruments.
Good service and selection. Got something for everybody at all price ranges
Pretty empty store yet I couldn’t get help because no one was around
Out of a lot of stock and people seemed kinda clueless.
It’s the Walmart of guitar stores. I would prefer to know that a guitar I bought was handled by every man, woman, and child that walked by.
Normally, I have wonderful service here. Everyone is usually really nice.
But the past couple times I’ve gone in, I have tried to get assistance with something, and have been told to go to 3 different people. Each time, they SCATTER and run off to the break room when they see me or another person approaching. I went in Saturday, March 11th and got the run around from 4 employees. I just wanted to know what studio monitors come in pairs, as NOTHING was labelled correctly, and was actually going to buy some that day. Not only have you lost my business, but Amazon is cheaper, and I’ll be shopping local for my guitar needs frrom now on.
Do better.
This place is a Dump!!! Customer Service is not a concern for anyone there! They have lost all of my business to Amazon!!! Apparently they have no management or they could care less about helping CASH paying customers!!! And Do not rely on the Guitar Center website… it is misleading!!! If I could give it a minus 10 I would!!
I ordered a mini jazzmaster on the 03/10 and it’s 03/28… I still haven’t received the guitar I ordered. The guitar isn’t coming from China, there’s no good reason why it’s taking this long.
9. The Fret Shop
Address: 309 Jordan Ln NW, Huntsville, AL 35805 , Bear Creek , Alabama , United States
This place is the only place that matters. Nothing else matters!
For real though. Best customer service here and this place is epic. It is a bit pricey, but they have everything you can ask for.
Great place to shop for guitars, basses, amps, etc…
The staff is always very helpful and they have a great selection of guitars.
Wide variety of stringed instruments. Helpful but not pushy staff. Only saw one acoustic\electric bass. Good deals to be found from a local business but do your research.
Would’ve been 5. Almost everyone was great, especially the guy that rang me up, and my experience was mostly enjoyable, but grey goatee was rude when I asked for his opinion on some Marshall amps.
So if you are reading these I bet you see the polarity of the reviews. People seem to love it or hate it. The difference is who you deal with there. I’ve always seen 3 guys and one young lady. There is a big guy with a goatee who isn’t friendly at all and you can tell he gets annoyed if you play with an instrument. Then there is a pretty generic looking guy that does most of the repair work. He is the embodiment of the a*hole guitar shop/ comic book store type guy. You’re beneath him and he makes sure you know it. If you can get past these two the young lady is very nice, and I’ve seen her make women more comfortable in what is usually a very male atmosphere. She also seems to know most of the store’s products equally so if you are looking for a dulcimer ask her. The last guy is the only reason I still shop there. Tall, skinny dude with a Rock a Billy haorcut. Hands down one of the nicest people I have ever met in a store. He could not care less if you came in there without a dollar to your name or a single chord to play. He loves music and wants to spread that around. If anyone there had the skill to warrant being haughty it would be him, but he is the last one there to do anything other than brighten your day. I take friends in there who have social anxiety etc. or are just nervous because they don’t play and he puts them right at ease. I would love to write this place off, but one great employee can make a difference. He doesn’t even know the difference he has made with some of my Army buddies that can barely handle being out of the house, but thanks to him there is one place they can go feel like a regular guy perusing a store. When my son is old enough he is who I want him to take lessons from. Truthfully he deserves a better place to work at.
Terrible customer service. We bought a $400 guitar here and was told we would get a free alignment. We came back a few days later to get it and the man that we talked to very unhelpful and rude. We will not be recommending this place to anyone. We are very surprised by this behavior considering our contribution to their business during these tough times. Disappointed.
I have never been in this shop without being made to feel like a second class citizen. Bought a defective Taylor here, the first three frets were lower than the rest. When I asked about the warranty I was told they weren’t qualified to make that repair. When pushed on the matter their final answer was, didn’t you play it before you bought it? If you’re in the right clique this might be a great store, if not, Buyer Beware!
Had a warranty repair done on my sons telecaster relating to the neck pickup. After waiting for about 45 days for the new pickup to arrive from finder I picked up the guitar without testing it at the store. When I got home I plugged it in to find out that it had a major ground issue. The hum was so intense it seemed as though I was summoning lightening. I returned to the store agitated because it was clear it wasn’t even tested after the repair & $56 dollar setup. David assured me it was normal noise a telecaster makes. He said he had a custom shop telecaster that was even worse. However I played the guitar a lot before the part failed and it didn’t have any loud feedback or 60 hertz hum. (4 gen noiseless) After a lot of back and forth and him calling fender to tell them that the customer is complaining of normal noise. I took the guitar to guitar center and compared it to other noiseless telecasters and even a squire tele and it was obviously way way worse, unbearable! So I sent the guitar back to sweetwater (These guys are awesome) were it was purchased and the guitar tech there told me what the issue was. David at the fret shop had soldered an additional ground on the front pickup and that that solder joint had made contact with or caused interference with the coil wrappings. So it was replaced and now works as it should. Once again the guitar sounds beautiful and clean. I had to pay to have this repair done plus a new pickup along with shipping because it was the result of an improper modified solder failure that I didn’t approve or authorize. I can only assume David is dishonest or hard of hearing and also I’m sure he is the most unprofessional person to deal with. All the time wasted for a $30 part I could have easily replaced myself SMH I thought well it’s covered by warranty. lol.. I try to shop local because we all should but I’ll never spend another of my hard earned dollars here. I was taking lessons here as well, the rooms upstairs are kind of musty smelling just FYI.
Yes of course I am leaving the review for the appropriate business! It is my sons guitar that his mother and I bought for him. 2018 MIM Telecaster thin line deluxe. It was repaired under his name so it wouldn’t cause confusion if he needed some other warranty work done in the future also the registration & the warranty card is in his name. FYI
I’m obviously wrong about your guitar techs name but it was the same guy that has done work on my guitars, my girlfriends guitars and my sons guitars. To my knowledge he is the only tech you have or had at that time.
I took a video of the unbelievable sound that it was making, I have the part that was causing it, I have documentation from the technician at Sweetwater that repaired it and I will be happy to share that with you if you actually care. I prefer and try to support local business but I will not be treated the way I was or lied to period! That guy (whatever his name is) has 0 credibility with me. One bad apple. Everyone else was very pleasant and Andy is awesome, its unfortunate.
The white wire is not factory and was not otherized. The solder has made contact with the coil and or melted the insulation on the factory wires. It literally sounded like it was summoning lightning. Instead of saying oops and fixing it he tried to convince me it was normal. The whole experience was remarkable!
10. T Shepard’s Discount Music
Address: 110 NW Cleveland Ave, Huntsville, AL 35801 , Bear Creek , Alabama , United States
I have been dealing with Tommy for close to 35 years. I have followed him wherever he has been through those years. I have purchased countless new and used guitars and gear over all these years. As well having all of my guitars setup and serviced, custom builds, it just goes on and on. I don’t remember ever in all these years having a bad experience. If I have, he obviously took care of it and erased it from my memory. He is just a great guy and he does the best work. I refer to him as the “Godfather of local guitarist”. Highly Recommend!
Tony Walker
I’ve been patronizing T Shepard for almost 10 years. I’ve purchased new and used, custom-built or ‘standard’ guitars, amps and guitars and cases and accessories. Tom does ALL the work on my guitars and has always been the best. He has always been ready and able to fix any problem I’ve had with my guitars and guarantees I’m happy with the work. His Custom guitars sound and play great. I don’t hesitate to recommend his services to any of my friends. I’ve attached a picture to show what beautiful custom guitars he builds!
Tommy works miracles. His shop is the gold standard of customer care and quality service. My quality of gear and attention to excellence has drastically improved with Tommy’s help. His commitment to building quality instruments is a local treasure. Please do yourself a favor and visit his shop. You will leave a better musician.
Great place for all you musical needs
Just not the place to buy music
T Shepard’s is a great shop, and Tom is a terrific, skilled, and knowledgeable guy.
The straps and strings and accouterments are top-notch.
And the selection of guitars for sale is interesting, diverse, and attractive.
Don’t be in a hurry, though, if you drop your guitar off for repairs.
And don’t expect a phone call or email to let you know about delays well past the implied pick-up date.
This is Mayberry, Andy.
Not Mount Pilot.
Mr Shepard doesn’t seem to understand how to correctly repair tuning stability issues.
He may want to consider the fact that a new customer doesn’t always mean new player. He insulted me when I told him ‘guitar will not stay in tune’ I’d like it repaired’ His response was “you mean it won’t stay in tune or you can’t get it in tune?” Wow.
Sir, I’ve been playing for 38 years. Im a seasoned player. I love music. And I would have loved to find a small shop to do business with instead of that behemoth Guitar Center. Speaking of GC, I only turned to them because this same Mr Shepard was rude to me on the phone last December when I was in the market for a new rig…I mean I’ve bought a Marshall amp, a full complement of pedals, And an American Standard Strat, a Gibson Les Paul. So maybe you should reconsider to whom you are rude in the future. I gave you a chance to earn my business and you blew it. Since last December, I’ve spent over $3000 at GC,and guys like you whine about GC all the time yet you don’t seem to understand why your own business is stuck off in the boondocks, or you constantly have to move around.
11. Guitars and More LLC
Address: 1634 Beltline Rd SW, Decatur, AL 35601 , Bear Creek , Alabama , United States
My son has loved his drum lessons here. I couldn’t have asked for someone with more patience and encouragement to teach him. What I love the most is that my son can have lessons during the weekday since he’s home schooled. If your child wants to learn an instrument, no matter what time of day you want to schedule lessons, this is a great place for it!
Gave advice on what I needed. Thank you
Awesome customer service. Love the new guitar!
Lance and Tracy are nice folks. They have a good selection of strings and accessories. Neat place for obscure instruments.
