There is a GREAT selection of records here! Found a few that I’ve not been able to find anywhere else, for a great price!
An old school Record store, LOVE IT
It’s stepping back in time to the record stores we grew up with! Definitely worth the visit. I love this place!
8/19. Check to make sure they are open. (update at least the owner cared enough to explain. And my review will change due to this. I will try to come but call this time. Heard nothing but awesome things about this place and I will see for myself. Update soon
Owner is cool, although a bit overpriced. Overall good experience.
4. Analog on Third
Address: 210 3rd St S, Oneonta, AL 35121 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
Loved being here and working with this studio! Since this was my first experience with an actual recording studio, I was unsure what to expect. I was immediately put at ease and the whole process was amazing! Just recording and listening and fixing anything I wasn’t satisfied with . . . Until we were thrilled with the final outcome. I’m definitely gong back and recording some more. The atmosphere is relaxed and supportive and so cozy. And the historic location is so cool. Check it out for sure!
My favorite recording studio in Alabama
This guy is a rockstar at what he does. Great atmosphere to work in. Had my son with me during my session and he was blown away by the whole process. Look forward to working on future projects with this studio.
5. Guitars and More LLC. Cullman
Address: 103 2nd Ave SW, Cullman, AL 35055 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
The employees are very nice and friendly at Gardendale and Cullman locations. They carry more affordable decent guitars, but some sound really nice. I recommend doing business with this company.
Great place, great service
Eric smells really nice
Good selection and no junk.
The people are friendly but the guitars were little high-priced in my opinion
Good merchandise friendly people good Price’s.
Not a good experience at all, they have rescheduled my grandson twice, mind you we did not miss any sessions, they rescheduled us and then just took us off the schedule period. Carried my Grandson anyway thinking he was on schedule and Sage came in 10 minutes late and finished 5 minutes early…making it a 15 minute session instead of a 30 minute session as paid for. Spoke really negative to my Grandson and then refused any refund for missed sessions that THEY canceled. My Grandson loves everyone but does not want to go back, I’m saddened that because someone is a child that they are treated with less respect.
6. Honey Maid music
Address: 141 Co Rd 43, Hanceville, AL 35077 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
If you are looking to by on the cheap, try larger cities. B&C has incredible service and knowledge. They may have to charge a bit more, but it’s not worth to drive to Nashville to find the quality and service.
Great personnel and great to help.
Has variety of instruments and types of music. Carrie is a bubbly personality there
Great little music shop. A good place to look for a starter instrument or replace an existing one.
Over priced. Only good if you need to grab a pack of strings or something small last minute.
The people are not friendly, the merchandise is overpriced, some equipment is not even new (and it is damaged) although they don’t disclose that information, and getting around in a wheelchair is next to impossible. The lady at the register didn’t know anything about the equipment. It is definitely worth the drive to go somewhere else.
I felt watched and rushed. Two women were working there that day, one was very friendly. I did not feel comfortable asking questions and also it was so hot in there.
Awful place with cheap brands and overpriced / broken used instruments.
8. Guitar Pro’s LLC
Address: 224 Main St, Trussville, AL 35173 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
Very nice people and helpful on the information I was seeking concerning a musical instrument
Very nice shop with nice owners. Helpful and kind. They also have some keyboards, drum stuff, school band parts. It’s a small shop but lots of heart. I picked up some strings and pics. I would go back.
Nice selection of new and used guitars. Needs a jam space though..
Have a decent variety of all different kinds of cords and instruments and the guitars rule great prices too. And the lady in there is always super sweet
Friendly staff they have a few harmonicas
I will never set foot in this place again. Not that they will care. Thought I would give it another chance after several years. Nothing has changed so now I know for sure.
WAS our trusted source for guitars and gear.
Took in a Seagull acoustic to have the battery and strings replaced at the end of December 2020(only having someone else do it because of the value of the guitar).
The battery went dead MUCH faster than normal (usually takes 6 months). We are very aware that leavi g guitars plugged in drai s the battery. That was NOT the case here. We took it out and found they had installed a promotional Progressive Insurance smoke detector battery in it. Instead of what we are used to getting, Energizer or Duracell. I called and was told that we should have told them we wanted a better battery. It cost us more than $30 for the strings and a battery replacement. No offer to replace it. The lady said they just use whatever is “handy”. I don’t pay for what’s handy. So much for being Pro’s. If the lady had simply apologized, that would have been the end of it. I wasn’t looking for anything other than to let them know that a substandard battery had been installed. When we brought it in initially, we asked for the strings to be changed and the battery replaced. No one told us at that time that we weren’t being charged for the battery, just that what we asked for was $30, if I had been advised of that I would have either asked for a better battery or brought my own. I hung up when her tone told me how disgusted she was that I called with a problem. As for my other reviews of other businesses you mentioned, I review honestly and fairly. If you notice, I have many very positive reviews of several companies in the area. I managed customer service depts with 4 Fortune 500 Companies in my career. Again, I wasn’t asking for anything except courtesy, which was unfortunately lacking. The lady I spoke with had a “how dare you complain” kind of attitude. (modified for clarity based on the reply from the company)
Accused me of taking out a screw, when all I asked was for the value of what it would cost to fix that. I fixed it myself 16$ out of my own pocket for a new screw, set of strings, and labor on my workbench at home. I thought about going to small claims court, for not selling me a guitar in the condition they claimed on reverb. I’d been looking for this guitar for a while, I didn’t want to just return it. I just wanted it in the condition that I saw it in and felt insulted when they instantly made me out to be at fault even after sending pictures moments after receiving it from UPS and to top it off I even have video of when I first opened it on the CCTV at work. Overall poor online experience.
9. SoundWaves
Address: 2343 Moody Pkwy, Moody, AL 35004 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
Stephan is great. He has fair prices and is very helpful.Ive bought and sold guitars and equipment with him since he was in Odenville and always been pleased with the service I’ve gotten.
Great place for music equipment.
cool place. cool staff. good deals on stuff you might not see every day.
First time in shop and they have a good selection of speaker cabinets, amps and mixers as well as guitars. Plus they take trade in’s on purchases.
They don’t have guitar strings.
10. Innovative Music Concepts
Address: 233 Garden Dr, Gardendale, AL 35071 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
I forgot the guys name but he’s amazing and I love coming here. They have lessons as well
I enjoyed my visit to your shop. Thank you for the good deal on the guitar.
Great inventory and excellent friendly service from a fellow named Ken. Very knowledgeable
Great local guitar store. Eric does a great job running this store.
Great sales,super repair work!
The people are nice but the stuff you buy here is garbage.
I went in yesterday and asked about a Gretch open back banjo on the back wall that didn’t have a price tag. The reply I got from the bearded gent behind the counter was ” I don’t know, probably $300 or something”, and then he walked away like I didn’t exist. The vibe I got from him was “I dont want to help you. I won’t help you”. I buy a LOT of instruments and spend thousands of dollars per year on all sorts of music equipment, but this store has shown me that they don’t want my business and they aren’t interested in having any sort of customer care. I didn’t want to go to Guitar Center anymore, I would like to buy from a local store, but Guitars and More has discouraged me from doing any business with them. My advice to other customers is to go elsewhere. They don’t want your business and they don’t deserve your business.
13. Dry Creek Antiques
Address: 62441 US-231, Cleveland, AL 35049 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
Always nice…very knowledgeable about the instruments and I appreciate not having to go to birmingham…they have fixed 2 instruments so far and have done a great job.
Great people
Fantastic, friendly service! 10/10 will reccomend to everyone for their musical needs.
Very friendly people that works here and can order what you need this is where I got my special piano
Prices are moderately high. Check online first for cheaper pricing.
Really nice guy working there not to pushy but let us nknow he was there if we needed him. Oh and the selection was huge and reasonably priced
This place used to be very friendly and musicians dream to come in. Now it’s full of a bunch of butt heads. I Won’t Go Back
Muy bueno
If you are looking for music instruments, and accessories, i promise you, you will pay FULL retail price. No discounts there. It dosen’t matter that accessories have a 70% mark up. The best thing to do is buy it online.
15. Ron Partain’s World of Music
Address: 1914 Cogswell Ave, Pell City, AL 35125 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
Love our music store. They
always have what we need.
The people in this place are very nice and knowledgeable. They have many beautiful instruments to choose from and Al you need for them.
It’s a standard small music store. There aren’t a lot of new high end instruments here, but they are all very nice folks.
Wonderful music store.Friendly staff. Very helpful in supplying me with what I needed from instrument to private music lessons.
Large selection!! Beautiful instruments!!
I read reviews for this shop and thought it was an honest place to sell my gear. I walked in with an Epiphone AJ 220, with an Epiphone molded hardshell case I bought seperately, and an Epiphone “Snake Pit” 15w practice amp. ALL in like new condition. She plugged the guitar in and it was only the fourth time it had ever been plugged in. I never put the guitar in the case without wiping it down first. Look everything I listed up for yourself, and you’ll see what I lost. I messed up and let the lady know that I was in dire need of money for my family. The old guy asked where I bought it, and when I told him, he said he’d lost alot of business to “places like that”. No. I looked around the shop, and all he had was used gear that had been repaired and put up for sale. Junk. My guitar was the nicest instrument there! The reason he’s losing business is because he’s trying to sell junk and beating people in need out of what their instruments are worth. The lady acted like she was on Pawn Stars! If I hadn’t had needed the money really bad, I would have told her where she could stick her $200! That’s all they gave me for everything I brought in. Look up the items I listed, and you’ll see I did my part to support this business! The reviews I read must have been friends of theirs, because they definately misled me. Not fair at all.
Walked in today to look around and from the moment I walked in the door, the older gentleman (I guess the owner?) had his eye on me and was watching me like a hawk, made me feel unwelcome to be there. He asked if I was looking for anything in particular and when I told him very politely he didn’t have what I was looking for he arrogantly told me “I opened this store in 1973 and everything you see in the store is priced the same as you’d get it online” like ok bud I wasn’t complaining about the price you just don’t have what I was looking for. When I told him I wasn’t looking to buy today, and was just looking around he made a sarcastic comment about “well if you’re not buying, we can just put this back on the shelf” ??? I continued to walk around and look at some more product and he continued to watch me like a hawk until I got in my car and pulled out of the parking spot. All of my musician friends have recommended I don’t frequent this store, and I can honestly say, after that experience, I will not and will tell anyone that asks not to either. Lousy excuse for customer service.
16. Piano Lessons – Jennie Stone
Address: 75825 US-231, Blountsville, AL 35031 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
Jen is such a wonderful teacher! She’s kind and knowledgeable and makes my 7year old (very shy) daughter feel comfortable and confident. Absolutely love her teaching style and how easy going our lessons are. Highly recommend!
17. Kannon Piano Services
Address: Moody, AL 35004 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
Mr. Kannon (accompanied by his wife) did a great job tuning our ancient piano. I really felt like he went above and beyond in replacing a number of parts and was very realistic about the results we were going to get.
18. Jake’s Music Room
Address: 101 Locust St, Gadsden, AL 35901 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
It is a wonderful atmosphere with great entertainment. I would highly recommend it.
You fun for grown ups.
Very unique nightspot in Gadsden with a comfortable atmosphere and welcoming staff!
Good place but never have my favorite drink
Chill little spot.
Love that place for partying and It is so laid back. The people that runs the business makes you feel like your family…could use some small repairs and updated little .the ceiling leaked and ants were in there too.
19. Homewood Musical Instrument Co
Address: 1712 28th Ave S, Homewood, AL 35209 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
Love Bob..Great guy..very experienced and funny too…Love doing business there always!
The best luthier in Bham. Expect a wait but it’s definitely worth it.
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
Good product, Good service.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
20. Highland Music
Address: 3000 Clairmont Ave, Birmingham, AL 35205 , Blount County , Alabama , United States
Don, Doug, and Mark are all great guys and knowledgeable about all pieces that they carry. It’s a gem of a music shop that takes you back in time. They still offer layaway for instruments with 20% down and Their Amp tech Sam is the best in the biz.
Guitars are really overpriced, but the guy behind the counter was courteous.
Great selection of vintage guitars and amplifiers. New equipment also.
Cool selection of stuff, lots of vintage amps and guitars
I left this store just a moment ago after being asked to leave because I had not yet made a purchase. I had originally intended to pick up a few packs of strings for my acoustic, now I’m glad I had not. I stopped by today with my friend who had told me about this store. He has been a customer of this store before and had always told me the staff here was friendly and that they have great service. We spent roughly 45 minutes in the store before the man at the counter, whom we had previously overheard talking to another customer about us saying, “What’s the deal with these two jokebags?” told us to get out of the store because we had not yet bought anything. We promptly left the store and I soon received a text from my friend saying that he had gone back inside to try to clear things up with the man that was working the counter and he told me that the man said he was not feeling well and is looking to close the store early. So if his goal is to minimize the business they get to close up early, he is doing very well.
As a local of BHM I’ve been to Highland Music many times over the last 10 years or so. They’ve always had an interesting selection of gear. You’ll see the usual flow of second-hand gear pass through. It seems like a popular place to sell your guitar or amp on consignment. Highland also has some neat vintage stuff. They have several vintage CBS era Strats hanging out behind the counter. They have always managed to have a few other vintage Fenders too. They even have a literal wall of vintage Fender Champ amps that include tweed, blackface, and silverface era examples. So why the low score you ask?
The problem with Highland music is the people working there consistently give customers a negative experience. These guys are unknowledgeable in the gear they carry-not the biggest deal. That would be easily forgiven if it weren’t for their habit of just making up stuff to sound smart when they don’t have an answer. What’s worse than this is their attitude toward customers. Don’t bother asking to play one of those cool vintage guitars. You will only be met with a snide remark about how you probably can’t afford it. Both myself and friends have experienced this kind of rude talk from Highland Music, and it’s honestly lead to our decision of willfully not spending our money there.
I do not intend on bashing this store. I am not an angry internet troll, and this is not that kind of post. I genuinely want to see Highland Music succeed. Despite the faults I have complained about, I think it is the coolest guitar store we have in BHM. I would love to see these sort of things change.
Tried to get my guitars worked on here multiple times. First time was an 8 string, guy said “I don’t like black guitars they scratch too easily” and then rubbed a cloth with steel wool fibers over it and scratched the guitar. GEE I wonder why! Had a pickup swap done on another guitar, put a scratch on it that went through the paint. Not only that, but he took it upon himself to do a full “set up” when I did not ask him to now I have buzz everywhere and it plays worse than it did before, then charged me for it. Oh and the pickups are also out of phase. Sorry, but that’s it. No more chances. Goodbye.
