I needed an impromptu violin repair and Lulu was extremely kind and accommodating. After overtightening and snapping my A string I needed to get it fixed same-day so that my son could start his lessons on time, and even though the store had other repairs scheduled that day, she was able to fix it in less than an hour. Excellent service, very fair price, and total professionalism throughout. I highly recommend Lee’s Music for servicing your instrument. Thank you again Lulu!
I purchased a beginner flute for my daughter for under $100! I will definitely come back here to upgrade her flute as she gets better. The staff are friendly. This is a small, but friendly music store.
A woman took care of us during our transaction. We opted to rent due to our child being small and will most likely move on to a bigger violin soon. She was very helpful and friendly with our two kids.
Nice friendly store with so so selections
Ms. Lee is a great piano teacher. She’s very patient with my two daughters.
As a music store, it is average. They have a variety of instruments, classical and contemporary. They have some parts and supplies. If you are looking for top quality or grade instruments, you should look elsewhere. However, where Lee’s Music shines is in other services. They have a pretty good selection of music books for students of a variety of instruments. They help coordinate and host a number of music instructors who provide lessons in the rooms behind the main building. And they are also able to help work out instrument repairs if needed.
My review is based mostly on my customer service experience. I went in and told the young lady behind the desk that I was looking to rent a cello for lessons. She asked what size and I told her I did not know, that this was all new to me but it would be for me (an adult). She then told me the cost. I asked if I could hear the different cellos. In reading up on renting a cello, one article recommended that you hear the cello so that you could judge by the sound which one you prefer. It also indicated that the cost and quality of the cello is often reflected in the sound. The young lady looked at me as if I was crazy and asked what I meant by could I hear them. I explained to her that I wanted to judge the sound of the different cellos and she told me that for student cellos there is just one. I then asked her if the rental came with the bow and rosin and if there was anything else I would need. She then told me the rental came with the bow but she didn’t know what else I needed because she didn’t play. Hmmm…. not really helpful I thought. So I again leaned on the information I had read up on and asked to purchase the rosin and a beginners book. The young lady went and got the cello and book. I then asked her if the instrument would be tuned or if that was extra. She looked a little surprised and then told me it would be tuned. Then she proceeded to turn the knobs on the cello and pick at the strings. I thought to myself, just two seconds ago you told me you don’t know anything about the cello, you don’t play and don’t know what i need to begin lessons but now I’m supposed to trust you are tuning the instrument? She then handed it back to me and said, “it’s tuned”. We filled out the paperwork and she ran my card. I repeatedly looked her in the face and smiled, first because it is polite, second because I am depending on her for assistance and third, I was hoping to evoke some professional courtesy from here. It didn’t work. She handed me my rental agreement and looked back down at what she was doing. There was no attempt to educate me or provide me with any helpful information in any way. Most specialty services will offer a little bit of advice or recommendations when assisting a first time shopper or novice in the field the service is being offered. Not here. Not the warmest or most customer friendly experience. Hopefully, my lessons (which will be taken elsewhere) will be more enjoyable.
Rude! I went to buy a book for violin and they yelled at me and my sister because my sister just told her the total of money she was giving them. NEVER GO THERE!!!!!
2. California Drums
Address: 415 S Myrtle Ave b, Monrovia, CA 91016 , Bradbury , California , United States
I client friend Kela turned me on to a Monrovia park concert, which I loved to death, I think Heaven!! SO SO AMAZING!!!!
We started with this music group 5 years ago when they were at the Dollmaker location for my 5 year old son. We have taken lessons from 3 teachers and all of them are just terrific, patient and GOOD. Now my 7 year old daughter is taking lessons with them and she is so motivated to practice and look forward to go to the lessons. We love the opportunity that they also offer them the chance to perform at the recital.
Feel so lucky that we are so close to such a talented group of musicians, instructors and artists!
Super cool music studio! Music lessons for almost any instrument. Check hem out!
4. Amazing Arts & Music Center-Arcadia
Address: 1207 S Baldwin Ave, Arcadia, CA 91007 , Bradbury , California , United States
I am the manager for LA Fitness, and also a musician. I didn’t know that I had a music store in my shopping center. I had to replace strings for my mandolin. They replaced the strings, and communicated with me to let me know when they finished. This music store is a hidden gem in Arcadia. They even give music lessons
attitude.
Hours posted on their website say open 11am-8pm on a Monday but they are closed and it’s only 6:30pm. Previous experiences here have been pleasant.
为什么我去了两次,都不开门?不知道从哪里进,打电话也不接?
No one picks up the phone. I tried over different time of the year and no one ever picks up. Hard to find out if they are open before going there.
5. Neighborhood Music School, Inc.
Address: 25 S 1st Ave, Arcadia, CA 91006 , Bradbury , California , United States
My kids have been taking music lessons here for a few years now, my daughter takes piano lessons and my son take guitars lessons. They both love it and enjoy playing, the instructors are kind and great non-pressured environment.
I would recommend it highly, they are flexible to different instructors because every child is different to who they are compatible with.
That’s great place to learn the music and all kind of instruments, the teachers there are enthusiastic and well-trained, they have trail lesson for free, suggest everyone go and try.
Great place to bring your child to learn Guitar. Jason is a great teacher. Thank you!
I recently signed my daughter up for violin lessons with an instructor at Neighborhood Music School in August. Upon signing her up, I filled out all of the requisite paperwork and was given the name of an instructor who would be responsible for teaching my daughter. I did not get to meet the instructor that day, which was not a problem. The following day, I went back in to confirm the name of the instructor and get his contact information so that I could book my daughter’s first lesson. The staff had a difficult time locating my paperwork so that the registration fee and lesson fee could be paid for (which was inconvenient, but not a major problem). The staff member was able to locate my paperwork and then schedule my daughter for a lesson. That week I was contacted by the instructor, Albert Romero. He confirmed our appointment for Sunday, September 2nd at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, Mr. Romero canceled my daughter’s lesson at 9:40 a.m. via text message stating that he needed to cancel the lesson due to the Labor Day holiday. I responded and informed him that I needed at least a twenty-four hour notice from him if a lesson needed to be canceled to accommodate my schedule. I also asked him when we could reschedule my daughter’s first lesson. Mr. Romero did not respond to that message until today (I do not recall him contacting me since our exchange on Sunday, September, 2nd). Mr. Romero informed me today that he would no longer be teaching for Neighborhood Music School and that I should look into possibly retaining another instructor for my daughter. I informed Mr. Romero that I had canceled my daughter’s lessons with Neighborhood Music School. I also let him know that in the future it would behoove him to keep in better contact with his clients. He responded by saying he did not need my advice and thank you. I responded in return by telling him that due to his erratic communication pattern, he actually did need my advice. His next text said, “I hope you find what you are looking for.” I texted him back and told him I hope he treats his clients better in the future. As I mentioned before, I went and canceled my daughter’s lesson with Neighborhood Music School this past week before my unfortunate exchange with Mr. Romero. I do not know the name of the gentleman who assisted me with the cancellation of my daughter’s lessons, but both times I had dealings with him, he was very pleasant and did his utmost to make my experiences positive. During the cancellation process, he sincerely apologized for Mr. Romero’s erratic and irresponsible behavior, and offered me the opportunity to look into another instructor for my daughter. I declined his offer (because Mr. Romero’s behavior did not particularly reflect well on this business, so I will look elsewhere). He immediately refunded my payments for the registration and lesson fees and e-mailed me a receipt of the transaction with an additional apology. He apologized for the inconvenience and Mr. Romero’s behavior once again before I left the store and thanked me for my business. While I was not pleased with the overall result of my experience at Neighborhood Music School, I was very appreciative of the service that I received from this gentleman. He was very professional and concerned about my experience and did his best rectify the situation. I do not want this review to unnecessarily sour anyone’s opinion of this establishment. Up until I had to deal with Mr. Romero’s casual attitude about cancelling my daughter’s lesson and then not contacting me until several days later, my experiences here were very routine and pleasant. I would hope in the future that Neighborhood Music School will be a little more proactive in the way they monitor how reliable their instructors are and how serious they are in meeting the needs of their clientele.
6. Music & Arts
Address: 848 S Grand Ave, Glendora, CA 91740 , Bradbury , California , United States
Really good deal on my son’s instrument. The staff was helpful and polite. The instrument was also delivered to the store location within the time frame that was stated, everywhere else has been delayed.
This Glendora Ca. store was condensed with easy to view merchandise, polite staff. Some real bargains in written music. Fast easy shop.
Cool little music store that offers a small selection of keyboards bass guitars electric and acoustic guitars as well as orchestra and band instruments.
I had a flute and a piccolo repaired here. They didn’t do a good job. My piccolo was given back to me with hot glue strands hanging off of it and a small wooden piece wedged into a pad. When I complained about the piccolo, they simply clipped of the glue strands and handed it back. It was clear that they would not be able to make it better. I had to take the instruments to another shop to have them rerepaired. I won’t be back.
About 5 years ago I brought a recorder in and asked for a thumb rest for it. Instead of ordering the $5 removable factory thumb rest which was made for that model, they installed an ill-fitting 3rd-party metal thumb rest with screws that are so long that they protrude inside the barrel, so that if the thumb rest were ever removed, it would leave holes in the barrel. Worse, they charged me $65 for this junky little metal piece and the 5 minutes of labor to install it. When I complained, they blew me off.
I will never go back there.
I see that they’ve been acquired by Music & Arts, which resulted in a name change, but it sounds like it’s still the same folks running the store, so my review will stand.
The customer service I received at this store was fine given the circumstances. The review is for my overall experience ordering from Music and Arts.
I ordered two items that, according to the order page, were supposed to be shipped to this store and ready for pick up within 2-7 days. One item was ready the next day, but it took 3 weeks for the rest of my order to arrive. When I went to pick my order up, the first item was present, but the second item was not in its packaging. I waited three weeks for an empty bag.
If I had known that it would have taken three weeks to be disappointed, I would have rather have taken five minutes to look in the mirror.
7. Bertrand’s Pedersen’s Band and Orchestra
Address: 2618 Burbank Blvd, Burbank, CA 91505 , Bradbury , California , United States
Great people that work their and are very friendly.
John Pedersen is probably the most knowledgeable and certainly the most helpful brass dude in the known universe. Thanks again John for the great work on my old Benge trumpet 10 years ago (which is still playing well) and the great info today on my coast-to-coast call for help! 🙂
Dear Bertrands Music, My name is Gregory. I started playing the piano at the age of 5 and then in the 9th grade started playing clarinet in the high school marching band and to this day play the clarinet on Sundays at church. My clarinet was restored by John Pedersen a week ago and he replaced all the pads, corks, so now it’s playing amazing and I had the pleasure of meeting with John yesterday in Burbank and he was such a pleasure to meet with and he told me his story of how he started in the music business years ago and to this day continues to repair instruments. Just wanted to say John is a gem and he’s such an extraordinary and talented individual and I was so glad to meet him in person. Wishing John and his family and the Bertrands family the very best and I will definitely refer other musicians to your music store. God bless. Gregory
**Update August 2019: The owner of Betrand’s Pedersen’s contacted me, and I didn’t realize that the people who are running the place now are not the current owners. The new owner Joel Bertrand called me after finding out about my experience and reached out to see how to make the situation better. I was very grateful that he was willing to contact me, and he reimbursed me for my flute repair and sent a gift card that I could use at the shop. He went above and beyond to make the situation right, and I will be giving them a second chance.**
Took my 1980s Armstrong open hole flute in for possible reconditioning so that my daughter could play it in middle school.
First off, they charged me $10 just to look at my flute to tell me what repairs it needed.
Second, he told me it was an open hole flute and my daughter wouldn’t be able to play it easily. (I had corks in it when I learned to play it – so they should’ve been able to replace those.)
Third, he said it would cost almost $600 to repair it and almost $800 for a new flute. And that it would be $30/month if I wanted to rent one before buying it.
All that would’ve sounded good if I hadn’t already had a decent flute for my daughter to play. I left the shop feeling very disappointed.
I decided to go to Baxter-Northrup Music in Sherman Oaks to get a second opinion. Please read my review on Yelp for Baxter-Northrup. They are total life savers and I was really bummed with this Pedersen place. I won’t be returning here.
8. Bertrand’s/Pete’s Music & Guitar Shop
Address: 29800 Bradley Rd, Menifee, CA 92586 , Bradbury , California , United States
Pete is a total sweetheart and the service guy Mike is very knowledgeable about all kinds of instruments. I’ve only personally seen him work on guitar repairs but he knew everything there is to know about my flute too. I’d trust them with any musical instrument I owned, and if I ever need to rent or buy again, I know where I’m going!
The guys at Pete’s Music are the best! This is my go-to shop when I need any adjustments done to my electric guitars. Mike, Carson, and John are always very courteous and knowledgeable about any fixes that my guitars may need to have done. Plus their prices are so reasonable, and even more so when factoring in the terrific job that they do for those prices. Thank you gentlemen for always making it a positive experience every time I stop in! Keep up the great work!
Excellent shop! wonderful service. Needed my guitar fixed asap and it was done so quickly.
I’m so glad they got rid of “Dr. Evil.” It was the best decision they’ve ever done in my 20 years of coming here. Buying guitar strings from him was like pulling teeth. I heard he was eventually assaulted, which is unfortunate and kind of reflects on the managers for not getting rid of him sooner.
The bearded gentleman that replaced him is worth his weight in Gold.
Give that man a RAISE. He deserves it.
In a era when local music shops are hard to find this one is a gem. Great service, great staff, fair prices. Their guitar techs are top notch and extremely reasonable…
I had some questions about a guitar repair on 9/23/14. I called to talk with Pete but he was not there. I talked with someone else about the needed repair. He couldn’t help me and when I tried to get some more information about when Pete would return he was non-helpful and then he told me that he had “a room full of customers.” Or in other words, this phone conversation is over. Am I not a customer? Just another employee filling a seat over there. I gave 3 stars for my rating only because Pete is awesome, but my experience with his fill-in was in complete contrast to working with Pete.
Done
Place is so uncomfortable. 3 people working. Complete silence. Just staring at you. Wanted to look at guitars but felt so uncomfortable.
I cant say i have been to alot of music stores but this is defiantly one i wont be going back to watch out for the middle age bald guy. Literally the rudest most obnoxious man i have ever met in my life. DONT GO
