Nice cozy little place and the employees seem nice.
Order online
Kell is awesome and always eager to help you find exactly what your wanting at Very reasonable prices.
The little unknown place with hidden gems!..
Has what you need when it comes to musical instruments needs..friendly service and knowledgeable..
They seam to have what you need. In music supplies.
Music store that appears to be run out of someone’s house. It smelled like stale cigarettes and was extremely disorganized. The guy running the place seemed to know his music but unfortunately I couldn’t handle the smell of smoke and was afraid that anything I purchased here would likely bring the smell home with me. Very friendly and helpful but this place desperately needs to be aired out.
Disorganized and everything is not priced with a tag, you have to ask him to look it up online in order to get a price. You may be there for an hour waiting for him to price each record or instrument you want. You will have better luck going to Guitar Center 20 miles away. Prices were not negotiable as well, just seems like a used music store should be more open minded to pricing and all.
Nothing in the store was priced. Took the time and found a stack of records I wanted to buy. He said he’d have to go on the internet and price each, one at a time. Gave him about 10 minutes to do that while I shopped. When I was ready to go, he only had one priced, and it was more than twice what it was worth on Discogs. The place was filthy and stinky. So, told him never mind on the records and I would buy the drumsticks and a kick plate. $16.09, fair price. Gave him a $20 and he didn’t have any change. Finally got so frustrated and just left. Don’t waste your time here.

The best place to get instruments fixed and a very nice guy. Would recommend and he fixed it in 5 minutes.
Great service! Got just what i needed for my ukulele and got to play the pianos! Gentleman gave me a great recommendation for a piano tuner too!
I had to get my guitar restrung while I was in Belleville today. The gentleman who waited on me was very personable and knowledgeable about guitars. He strung my guitar quickly and efficiently, This shop is well stocked with all kinds of books and music for all instruments. I will be coming back when I am in the area.
They appear to no longer be in business.
Do not put an item on consignment with this business. You will never hear from them again. Disgraceful business tactics + no communication regarding the issue. I will do everything possible to discredit this business.
The owners were rude and condescending. I got the impression that not EVERYONE was welcome in their store. They may have a large selection of music, but I’ll take my money and my dignity to other music stores.
I took my niece to Miller Music to see about having an issue fixed with her flute. The guy working looked at it for a few seconds and said he didn’t notice any issues (leaks) visible to the eye. I then asked if it would be okay for her to play the instrument for him so that he could listen, and hopefully make a diagnosis that way. He responded with, “Yeah, hurry up.” Needless to say, the instrument is still having an issue. When we purchased the couple of instruments we have, he was polite. Now that there’s an issue, “Mr. Nice Guy” left the building. I’d never recommend anyone to buy anything else from them again.

The staff is helpful and friendly. Many pianos and instructs available.
Bought my Taylor there last week . I love it! They were very helpful and answered all my questions I had.
Pretty good inventory from starter instruments to grand pianos. Laid back atmosphere.
Very limited selection of music, they have lots of guitars and pianos, though.
Nice store plenty of gear in stock , staff was pleasant , prices were reasonable and they even had some used instruments for cheapskate s like me hahaa I will go back and give them some business, even though online shopping may save you a few nickel s or couple bucks shopping local and having our local business s right down the street is well worth it to me .
Ignored from the time I walked into the store until I left.Walked a circle throughout looking for help only to find employees chatting it up. Both looked up at me and quickly turned away and continued talking to each other. Will never get my business.
Took in a brand new bass to get a pickup replaced. Not a scratch on it, never played once. The supposedly simple pickup replacement took a week and a half only for them to give me back my new bass with the back of it covered in scratches and a huge glob of dried glue stuck to the fretboard that won’t come off. They absolutely wrecked my new bass before I even had a chance to play it. Worst possible experience. I am sick to my stomach about how poorly they treated my equipment and would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.
I am giving two stars because Matt Waldhoff took the time to speak with us in the store. Other than that, I’m not impressed. We were going to consign an expensive Clavinova with them. Upon looking at the contract emailed to us they wanted 40% of the price it sold for, which was satisfactory with us. What was not satisfactory was even thought they only charged $100 to pick-up the clavinova it appeared from the contract they wanted $100 to deliver it to the new owners. Also, they would take no responsibility for any damage that may occur to the unit while it was in their hands. As we had questions regarding that contract we contacted Matt Waldhoff two times via email, asking him to clarify certain aspects of the contract. He never responded back so I assumed they did not want our business. I ended up selling the clavinova on my own and kept the 40% they would otherwise have received. It is inexcusable to not return emails to clarify a contract and I can only assume he took offense that we had questions regarding a contract where they took the profit, but absolutely no responsibility for damage.

Definitely a favorite spot of mine. Good customer service. Really good people. The boss is a great guy. Highly Recommended.
Honest deals great service
Went there to donate some unneeded guitars to guitars4vets program. Great organization.
I love all the products but at times the service was bad, other visits there were good service. Thanks!
I would give no stars. I bought a clarinet for my grandson, and a banjo another time for my husband. The son of the owner took care of my husband and me. I went in at Christmas time to buy reeds and the store did not carry what my grandson needed. A 3 1/2 plus Van Doren reed. The man said they don’t make those. So, I bought a 3 1/2. I had to return the box of reeds, as there IS a 3 1/2 plus reed made. I had my 16 year old grandson with me. This man proceeded to berate us as the group Chicago doesn’t use those and if what they use are good enough for them, we should tell the teacher this is not needed. We were verbally lashed IN FRONT OF OTHER CUSTOMERS. I didn’t have the receipt, but remember the discount. This sarcastic man was so intimidating, we felt lousy. I should have been rude, but, as a 16 years old, accomplished clarinetist was with me, I did not, nor am I confrontational. We left, and went to QUINLAN AND FABISH in Burr Ridge, which I strongly recommend to anyone, it is worth the ride. They had, ON A RACK, the EXACT reeds my grandson needed. So, stay away from Midlothian Music.
John Lekavich advised me to do business over the phone and outside of Reverb.com so that he could avoid their fees and I would not be charged taxes. The T5 he assured me was brand new has a broken saddle and is not brand new as advertised.
I have called all week and sent him several emails with pics of the broken saddle; he has not replied. John has not conducted himself as an adult nor a professional, and I do not recommend doing business with him nor Midlothian Music.
I asked for an estimate to repair a leak on my daughter’s flute. With no parts needed, they wanted $40. I declined their service and the man on the phone hung up on me. When I picked up the flute, somehow additional keys were bent and leaking. Ridiculous!

Never write reviews but I had to give these guys props. Fantastic instruments and top notch customer service. Don’t bother going anywhere else, this place had it all. I drive for over an hour and a half every time to get there and it’s always worth it.
Steve and the crew is amazing! Well knowledgeable and created a great atmosphere for acoustic “heaven.” Highly recommended!!!!!!
February 17, 2017 …. I was in Frankfort, Illinois planning on the purchase of the Deering Eagle II banjo. Much to my pleasant surprise Steve also had the Deering Vega Senator! I was able to try them both and after much deliberation I made my choice. DHG is the most relaxed, full service, huge inventory on site, and friendliest music store in the mid-west. Near Chicago, easy to reach and certainly the ‘go to’ place for any kind of stringed instrument! Owner/manager/stringed artist Steve Haberichter makes you feel very comfortable in his store! Jack J.
The store carries beautiful high-end acoustic instruments. They also hold some impressive seminars and concerts. If you want the very best and can spend 6K on a guitar then this store may be for you. With a larger wallet, perhaps you will receive better treatment than I did. The red-haired owner of this store is probably the rudest retail store owner I have ever experienced. Of course, I wasn’t there to spend thousands of dollars. I simply went there to buy picks, strings, tab books, and to explore and discuss instruments with other music lovers. My initial visits were often greeted by cold, stiff, and awkward personalities. After multiple visits, I expected things would warm up, and while some staff were friendly, it was never a comfortable experience. This was especially true whenever the owner was present. Pompous and arrogant seem apt descriptions, and small talk and small wallets are beneath him.

I wish the correct holiday store hours had been posted online. The website claimed the store would be open until 6p. I assume now that those are the regular hours for a Wednesday night. My family drove in to pick up a Christmas present only to find the place closed before 3:30. It put a huge damper over the holiday.
Friendly service and top of the line musical merchandise make Griggs music a nice place to shop .
Staff was very helpful. Picking out guitar strings for my acoustic electric guitar.
Very strange experience. They did the school instrument trial with my wife and daughter at school. The sales guy convinced my wife to sign a several thousand dollar contract that specified almost nothing but a high interest rate and payment information. On the instrument line, it only said “French horn Eastman EXC”. No model information. My wife was under the impression it was rent to own for a NEW instrument. But the info line said “exc.”, like a used instrument rating. Lo and behold the brochure says the rent to own option isn’t new. Felt like a potential bait and switch.
I called to ask questions. First person said it “must be for a rent to own on an excellent condition horn”, but wouldn’t say new and transferred me. Second guy on the phone was nice enough, but kept giving indirect answers to my questions. I had to press for specific information, which slowly morphed into a specific new model.
The whole situation felt like it was either extremely poorly managed or thoroughly designed to take advantage of people that don’t know much about instruments. Either way, I’m out. I got a WAY better instrument deal elsewhere, could have financed better on a credit card even. Only advantage to using Griggs might possibly be some sort of damage insurance inclusion. I saved so much money, it doesn’t matter though. I’ll go to the instrument trial with my next kid and check them out again with lots of trepidation. In fairness, the straight purchase option with them was a pretty good price, if you wanted to go that route.
I turn over my clarinet to be repaired (the cork). 4 days later they say they’re done, but I take a look at home and they didn’t do Jack and the cork is actually worse than before! Dirty money grabbers.
Brought my bow in to get the tip replaced. They replaced the hair instead. Now I’m out for the price of restringing the hair and bringing it elsewhere to get the tip redone.

I took in two guitars for a setup. One plays as good as it did when I bought it, and the other plays ten times better than when I bought it.
Couldn’t be happier with the customer service…..
It was awesome , great service !
Really nice people, just very overpriced
Very friendly and helpful. Nice to still have a brick and mortar music store in the area.
Had everything we needed.
They sold me a violin for 2,000 and when I had it appraised the specialist said they cost $100 for a set of three. I will never do business with them again and I urge anyone to go elsewhere
11. Third Coast Guitar and Amp Repair
Address: 159 N Racine Ave #1, Chicago, IL 60607 , Bridgeport , Illinois , United States
I’m a dolt who destroyed his guitar attempting to “fix” it and Third Coast Guitar saved me.
See… my semi-hollow frame ate my guitar input jack. After attempting to fish it out for hours I decided that drilling a larger hole was a great idea… it wasn’t.
I just assumed the cost would be worth more than the guitar but they did a quick, solid fix that will likely last the life of the guitar.
Oh they get bonus points for not laughing at me too.
This is one cool shop. If you need a repair, this is the place to go.
These guys are great , if your guitar needs work , this is the place to go . You will not be disappointed.
I brought my Martin in to find out why it was buzzing, and it was handled expertly and sent back repaired, completely to my satisfaction
thanks 3rd coast
Nice place for amp or guitar repairs.
Pretty good service here, workmanship is top notch. Good place to go for guitar repairs.
Had two of guitars worked on both came back with same problems. I’m out with you guys don’t spend all the money I gave you in one place .I got burned.
I rarely ever leave poor reviews anywhere, but feel the need to inform potential customers of a potential problem they may encounter.
Third Coast Guitar may have excellent technicians as others have stated. Unfortunately I will never know.
Facts: I dropped off my Martin guitar for a repair. The technician that checked me in and took my guitar told me it was a minor and easy repair (trim on the neck started to come loose). He said it would probably be a few weeks given it was around the holidays. 12 weeks later I called to just come in and pick up my guitar which hadn’t been touched – no repair started. I gave up.
Unfortunately, Third Coast Guitar never called me even to just give me an update. I had to call them twice for updates. First it was they were waiting on Martin regarding warranty work. The second call I said I would have gladly paid for the repair myself. The third time at 12 weeks, I just said I want my guitar back.
I will have to find another repair shop now.
Observations: 1.) There seemed to be little urgency to follow-up with Martin regarding warranty work. I got the sense that if I hadn’t called the first time, they still wouldn’t have followed up. The Technician to which I talked said they would check with Martin. This was a month after I dropped it off. Again I would have gladly paid for it myself. Stay on top of that if told it could be warranty work all you potential customers. 2.) A courtesy call or two with updates would have gone a long way, even if it’s bad news. My guitar would still be there waiting. Whether they have 10 guitars to repair or 2000 to repair in the backlog, a courtesy call takes 30 seconds and keeps the customer informed and usually happy. 3.) I expect there will be a reason or two that it took this long. But seriously, 12 weeks and not even touched. No apology when I picked it up. That made me wonder how often this happens. But that’s just an observation and I could be the anomaly.
Chris was extremely dismissive and rude over email. Not only was he not helpful, he suggested I take my amp to a furniture repair rather than suggesting another amp service that would do the job. If this is how he treats people, I will never let him lay a single finger on my guitar.

high end guitars at highly competitive prices. unbelievable selection! Gibson Bluebirds, top Les Paul’s, G&L, Taylor, Martin, PRS, more
Super friendly people there. Felt welcome to try the guitars and many of them are hand crafted and high quality. We went here to buy bass but only three were in the inventory. Overall very pleasant experience.
Good place to buy guitar stuff in a convenient location.
It’s kind of expensive, I paid $25 for two sets of strings when I go through them like crazy. This being the only place I buy strings nowadays I am now scared to break one!
They have loads of guitars and amps to try out, as well as mandolins, banjos and other stringed instruments, makes it a great place to learn about instruments.
I will purchase my next guitar here for sure.
Very nice store for guitar players. Not a lot of options for bass players. Store is very clean and the store has a very classy look and vibe. Very nice selection of effects pedals. I will go there again. I would like to have seen more high end 5 string basses. But, I think everyone should stop by.
I put a guitar here on consignment that had a synth pickup and they straight up lost the synth. When I came in to pick up my stuff they just shrugged their shoulders like “so what?”
Brought in a broken guitar hoping to fix it. They were quoting me 4 times the value of a new guitar to fix it and kept pushing me to just buy a new one. I ended up leaving and getting the guitar replaced elsewhere
Be forewarned! If you are anything but an accomplished or professional guitar player they may not have the time of day for you! They WILL talk down to you, and make broad assumptions of you. Without asking me any further questions, because I said I traveled a lot, had a sentimental instrument that I didn’t want to see damaged and didn’t presently have a place to store it: the assumptions changed to me being homeless and I couldn’t be pushed out of the store fast enough. Even when I asked about a simple $15 item. Oh and let’s not forget the whole the salesman is talking down to me, he grabbing expensive guitars off the wall just playing them instead of listening to my questions. Nice job Upper Bout
13. Black Diamond Music Store
Address: 1329 E South St, Freeport, IL 61032 , Bridgeport , Illinois , United States
I’ve personally purchased two guitars from this place and I’m not even sure why… I stopped repping their window cling in my hatchback last year after I got attitude again.. they’re the only music store in the area and they are still somewhat rude to people.
And that’s the only reason I keep going there, they’re the only place in the area. Pretty sad.
14. Tobias Music

Best Luthier for electric guitars in the Chicago area! I ordered a setup for my Ibanez RG and they absolutely delivered to a VERY reasonable price. The guitar was horribly setup (used buy), greasy, loose jack, bad strings, etc. For less than 40 bucks in total they did A LOT and won a new customer 🙂
Just got a lefty Taylor 12 string from Paul via Reverb. Totally excellent experience. Great price and communication, as well as a willingness to work with me on a few small complications en route to the sale. Thanks!
Always great service and quality work!
They are more of a acoustic guitar place not really a place for bass players .
***EDIT***
So, I am knocking down my review from five stars to three; due to my most recent experience a couple months after the first one. So I reached backout to buy another guitar (place order) as I really wanted an AD22e or another model I can’t remember, but after confirming they could place the order I let them know that I wanted the AD22e and to provide me the full price so we could close the deal and they went silent, mind you I didn’t even get a copy of the receipt from my AD27e that never came which I had also requested from the last conversation.
I did finally get my guitar ordered but I had a national retailer place the order. I was disappointed I didn’t hear back from Tobias Music about completing the purchase and obtaining a copy of the receipt for my AD27e that never came.
** original **
Just bought an AD27e (Taylor) from them after finding it for sale online. it was a great buying experience. I’m a lefty, buying guitars online is the norm, and most of the time guitars I buy take a day or two to pack and ship. we had a few emails back and forth and they were quick to respond and very professional. These guys had it packed and shipped the same day, and I didn’t place my order until after lunch; that’s service.
They also took the time to dial the guitar in; it came with the action set and was tuned ready to play out of the box. Paul did a great job and really made this buying experience easy, and hassle free. I’ll have to check back often to see what other lefty guitar they get in. If I have the chance, I will buy from them again.

Took my son here for his 1st guitar. Wonderful staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you Jason! We will be returning…
Friendly, professional
My son has a instrument from this place. They make it so easy to rent with the middle school.
Good
Great place with very friendly staff members. They’re always willing to help. I used them for instrument rental for a couple of my kids.
Very friendly and welcoming place. Had an issue with a repair but they corrected the problem. Took more than stop to resolve the issue, so 4 out 5 stars. Would still recommend and will continue to shop here.

What a great place to have your prised possessions worked on. Great prices and customer service. They know what they’re doing and they do it well. This is a hidden jem in the Bolingbrook area for musicians. Thank you Steve and Phil.
Had 2 guitars setup. They do good work!
Weirdly empty, quiet, and isolated location. Decent selection of guitars basses and ukeleles.
Has some nice offerings I usually just get strings here.
Owner is a jerk
17. AM Guitar Works
Address: 2660 E 53rd St #6, Davenport, IA 52807 , Bridgeport , Illinois , United States
In regards to service and equipment upkeep: Always timely, polite, patient, and of the highest quality.
Took my daughter here to buy a ukulele. Great service and very knowledgeable staff!
I drove two hours to get to this top-notch, full-service guitar shop. Very strong selection of guitars for a store its size. Inventory changes daily, so you’ll want to stop by often. Super-friendly and helpful staff–all of them teach lessons, which can be in-person or virtual. Their repair and custom shop can fix or upgrade any instrument. A real part of the community, many of the staff play in local bands or solo gigs. I give them my highest recommendation.
Always friendly and courteous. Guitar set ups are relative, depending on what your preference is. I’m used to Paul Munden’s low action setups with perfect intonation, but he’s in Texas now. Paul’s skills with guitars around here is legendary, he was offered a job by Fender guitar because of his skills, so it’s not fair to make comparisons to him. Set ups at AM’s shop have been ok but not great. The price for his set up has always been at the high end of the spectrum. And I found that extra work would be done without asking me first, that I did not ask for, which raised my bill. So started taking my guitars elsewhere but brought my amps into AM.
I recently took my fender vintage tube amp in because it would cut out on me off and on. After a few weeks the amp was finally ready. When I went to pick it up I was told the problem was just a loose socket. But Alan decided to do a mod on my vintage amp that cost a lot more money without contacting me first and asking me if I wanted it done. I was told that he is getting out of the amp repair business because it takes time away from his guitar work. I have no problem with that, but when I noticed I have a cricket sound after I got it back home and contacted him to see if he could see if it had anything to do with his mod, he dismissed it and said he told me he used it for teaching sessions after his repair and never noticed the cricket sound so it must be a new problem. And then told me again he doesn’t repair amps.
I’ve been a professional salesman for a Fortune 500 company for over 28 years. I went out of my way for my customers and busted a gut to make them happy, and gone the extra mile sometimes at my own expense. Nice guy at AM, but under the surface seems more concerned about the money.

I have always had a really good experience at Luscombe Music! The owner is so accomodating and nice, & the all the staff is wonderful too! They always try to help in any way they can! I will definitely keep coming back!
Awesome music store. Great service and instrument repair. Very fair beginning instrument rental rates.
We are so lucky to have such a personable music store in our town. My daughter takes piano lessons here and we could not be happier. Everyone is always so friendly and if they don’t have exactly what you are looking for, they will order it for you!
The teachers are great but the instruments and rentals are not so great, since the recent downsize, you can’t find some things there.
Yearly music by the pound sale is AMAZING
Extremely unprofessional. We got on the wait list, waited 2 months and got a call saying they had a spot for our day and time. We returned the call the next day saying we wanted to start as soon as possible. Office called us back saying the the instructor, Elizabeth Olson, should be calling us to make the final arrangements. She called the Sunday of MLK weekend, we were with family the next two days. We connected Tuesday and she wanted to do an assessment on the day we agreed on but a time that didn’t work and wasn’t agreed upon. She said she understood and arranged the following week on the original agreed upon time and day. We accepted, then she messages us and said she found another client that would use the extra day and bumped us out. When we questioned her motive, she said this is just business.
way over priced
