Everything you need for sheet music storage, from high quality heavy duty boxes to file envelopes. Not really a walk in business, but the owner is available 24-7 to take orders on the phone and always courteous.
I placed an order 2 months ago. Gamble has already processed my credit card payment but have not delivered my product. Nor will they communicate with me after three attempts on my part to find out the status of my order. This is bad business. Not sure what’s going on at Gamble, but I will not order from them again. Very disappointing.
UPDATE: I received my order. BUT there still has been no contact from the company. No apologies, nothing.
Placed an order about a month ago. It says it’s “Awaiting Shipment.” I’ve tried calling both numbers (not on their site) and nothing. One number is disconnected and the other just beeps without a ring. I’ve also emailed the customer service, but no response. I like their boxes, but this is ridiculous.
Do not order from Gamble Music! I thought I found a product I liked and ordered it. The payment process was confusing, and it seemed that ‘check’ made the most sense. I thought they would send me to a page to submit an e-check. No, instead the order was fully submitted and they said they’d ship when my check was received. I immediately sent a communication to cancel my order. No response. Two weeks later, UPS sent my shipment. I refused it and sent it back. I sent more communications indicating I wanted to cancel my order. Two weeks later again, a small piece of my shipment arrived that I couldn’t intercept. It contained an invoice. They do not respond to emails. They provided an 800 number which is out of service. I went on google maps and found another, local, number. It is clearly a landline that is always kept off the hook so they don’t have to answer that phone either. This company is a fraud. Do not trust them at all!

5. Mercy! Recording Company
Address: 3700 S Iron St, Chicago, IL 60609 , Brighton Park , Illinois , United States
Great place to shop for all your pro audio equipment and instruments etc!! just recently grabbed a mic stand, shock mount, focusrite scarlett solo 2nd gen, and 15′ xlr cable! very affordable and great quality brands!
I’m not a fan of GC. As an audio professional, I dread having to run in here to grab something last minute. Was in Chicago because the artist I work for was performing at slime fest. One of the local crew guys stepped on one of my custom cables and was forced to run here to grab some back ups. The audio department guys all talk to you and treat you like you know nothing and their arrogance is annoying. You work at GC. Get over yourself.
The best music equipment shop in Chicago. Their name is Guitar Center but you can expect much more than that. They have all kind of guitar, piano, MIDI, accessories, you name it. Their space is pretty huge and the best part is you can play instruments while you’re shopping. Very reasonable price ranged from $100 if you look for a decent acoustic guitar.
Pretty nice
Really love guitar center, but at this location the balding guy in pro audio Needs to be fired. A terrible customer service experience every time because of this guy. He does not give friendly vibes, no eye contact, as if he was avoiding giving me eye contact when engaging in a conversation when I have a question. Very short responses and honestly they need to get him out of there!
I was in store and asked if I could purchase an in store item using PayPal on the app. I was shamed “why would you do that” by the employee but specifically asked because I didn’t have my card on me. The whole transaction was made much worse than it needed to me. These employees have no customer service. And don’t seem to appreciate my sale. Probably don’t get commission so they’re mad. Don’t deserve commission.
Honestly the worst guitar center I’ve been too. I was there for close to an hour and wasn’t even noticed by an employee even after asking for help. The store was FAR from busy and really had no excuse to not be able to help me. There were also other customers in the store complaining about the non existent customer service. I planned on walking out with a guitar but ended up leaving with nothing.

It’s a great place to rehearse if you need it. They have been getting stricter and stricter but I do not blame them considering people can get out of hand. The only issue would be the strong drug odor.
The place is keept clean well consideringall the people that visit it. The restrooms are neat and it has air conditioning so practicing with the band is like when we did it at home and the price for the studio is fair.
Un buen lugar de apoyo al arte!
Cold water in the bathroom and always dirty, also there is no women restroom.
Place is a hole. Landlord keeps trying to charge us for an extra month that we demonstrably paid, but can’t be bothered to clean up at an even basic level (e.g., there’s been a mostly full beer bottle next to the stairs just sitting there for two or three months, and now recently there have just been chunks of broken glass on the floor). Supplying the bathrooms with soap is a recent development. Management can’t be bothered to interact with problem tenants in any way beyond posting passive aggressive notes. But hey, it’s I guess less expensive then some other dumps, so *shrug*
Amazing selection, range of manufacturers, and helpful staff. Visited from out of state and made it part of my “site seeing”. Only bought a shirt, but definitely recommend CME if you’re in the market for new gear.
Fantastic shop. Great staff and amazing selection and location.
Staff was super friendly and inviting. They encouraged me to try out different instruments and made me feel welcomed. Plus, all the gear was fantastic! If you’re a musician, this place is a must visit if you’re in the area.
Previously, I posted a 2 star negative review because of dismally poor service that I’ve previously received at the store. However, in my visits since, the service I’ve received has been vastly improved. The selection of instruments and accessories is like nothing I’ve ever encountered before from a brick-and-mortar retail store, and the atmosphere of the location is second to none. If you aren’t able to make it to the physical location, online transactions have been just as top notch, with a representative often sending me messages to check in on my satisfaction with purchases. I would have updated my review to a full 5 stars, if not for their poor first impression. However, CME has gone a long way in earning back my business and I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking to satisfy their music needs. The selection of awesome guitars, basses, drums, and gear is still vast and diverse, I just hope that customer service continues to improve!
This place is never open. Including Sundays the best day to hit any guitar shop!!
Another gem in Chicago!
Charging retail or more for used gear. If you want a better place go to Midwest, deal directly with the owner.
The worst music store I’ve done business with. I’ve ordered 4 guitars with them for a total of over $2,000. TWO have shown up with damage. Zero help from their customer service. I’ve never had this issue with any other dealer.
Do yourself a favor and avoid these guys. They will send you a damaged instrument listed as “new” and jerk you around for a week sorting it out.
Furthermore, we finally agreed on a partial credit for one of the damaged items. Rather than discount the item and recalculate the tax (which is the law) they just took it out of the bottom line number and tried to make me eat the tax amount. What a shady business
They scammed me 1700 dollars. Please don’t visit this store!
14. Austin Music Center
Address: 6815 W North Ave, Oak Park, IL 60302 , Brighton Park , Illinois , United States
My nephew plays several instruments. We’ve visited here to have his guitar string replaced, and we purchased a used trumpet. The gentleman in the shop is very knowledgeable and friendly. I’ve had great experiences here and I look forward to visiting again. Definitely stop by for your instrument needs.
Doug is a good guy. Not too many string choices, but if you call ahead he can order what you need. Best for elementary and grade school band stuy, but I am happy with my harmonica and ukelele from there.
Austin Music Center is a great neighborhood music store. It’s like the
Old school ma&pa stores of years gone
by. It has all things musical rite n our
Neighborhood. U no convenience ha ha
And real friendly people 2 accommodate your needs, musically that is. Go check it

Cheap instruments, overpriced in my opinion.
15. Evolution Music
Address: 2621 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647 , Brighton Park , Illinois , United States
Lots of interesting gear, fair prices, and really nice staff. 10/10
Love this place! Employees there are so helpful and friendly and they have a recording studio and a great selection of ibstruments
Knowledgeable and courteous, had a couple questions and they helped me out without pressing me to buy a big expensive thing.
Cool little used gear shop. They did seem to have some new items, as my friend purchased an amplifier. The employee was nice and knowledgeable.
Great service
Staff is friendly. Nice little selection if you dig around. Unfortunately they are not consistent with purchasing used gear. But always good for a trade.
This place was a rip off. Purchased their 1 month 30 min guitar lessons on Groupon which was $60. I found it weird how Evolution Music was no longer available on Groupon shortly after my sons first day. Went before my 7 yr old started school and Josh still charged me the whole $120 without checking my Groupon and said we could extend his lessons for 3 months instead and was guaranteed my money back ANY TIME. A little later I started facing some personal problems along with my pregnancy and also my son was starting school. The latest lesson I believe is at 3 pm which was cutting it close. I asked for my money back and the manager refused. It really wasn’t even worth it at all. It would’ve been better if it was more than one day a week for a 30 min guitar lesson.
Bad setup.
16. Gardunio Music Ltd
Address: 5911 S Troy St, Chicago, IL 60629 , Brighton Park , Illinois , United States
Bought a guitar and Orange combo(for under $200!) back in march. Love it!
I wore the nut down and brought it in for repairs. Tom was awesome and was able to fix it in 10 minutes. And put some 8s on, couldn’t be happier!
Great great. Good prices, real knowledgeable help. Friendly staff that doesn’t hover over you. From new guitars to gear with mojo, Midwest Buy & Sell is a true guitarist’s music store.
Great guitar shop!
Lots of good vintage gear ,reasonably priced.
Good local shop.
But have come a few times on open days and we’re closed, be nice if setup email list with that news and new items in stock too.
Drove over here for the shop to be closed on Wednesdays since nothing on their site or on maps has been updated. I’ll update this review if I’m able to go but please keep your stuff up to date so you don’t have people spending time only to have to turn around.
Disappointed that they closed earlier than what is writen on the door. Drove through traffic for nothing. Call first before coming if its 2 hours before closing. 2 stars because I wasted my time. Decent prices though. You’ll never know what you can find.
This used to be my favorite spot. I bought a Riviera there a few months ago, a G&L ASAT about a year before that and a 70’s Twin Reverb there a couple years ago. Loved the place, cool down to earth rock and roller types who don’t mind stopping in back for a smoke. They actually MOVE gear too, it won’t be the same pieces every time you drop in! Now, I’m the type of guy who almost has his mind made up before stepping in the door so I just stop by for a few minutes specifically to buy something with cash in hand, not a tire kickin small talker, perfect customer, right?
Well, not anymore, not after what happened today.
I went in two days ago and found a synthesizer (cz3000) and made up my mind to buy it. But, I figured I’d see what they’d give me on a trade in for a nice keyboard I don’t use (Roland D50) and asked. One of the fellas said “yeah, we used to sell those used for 4 to six hundred but you have to come back Monday when the owner is here”
Cool, so I extend my rental car one more day, grab a few hundred bucks out of the ATM so I can buy the Casio even if they don’t want the D50, and make the trek up from West Town. I walk in, the same fella points me towards the owner. He says “are you looking to sell? I don’t really do these keyboards anymore” …even though there’s about 10 in the store. I say “well maybe a trade in or cash” He instructs me to put the keyboard on an amp to show him then says, naturally, “How much you looking for” …well, it’s 2015 and the only way to gauge market value of synths is eBay so I casually said “um, they go for 4 to 600 on eBay” expecting to reply with the standard I can only sell it for such and such low ball offer, which would have been okay with me cause I liked the place.
His response: ” I don’t want to even look at it, get it out of here” walks away and yells “I won’t give you ten ****ing dollars” then continues “I’m ****ing sick of this eBay ****.”
I didn’t ask for that, didn’t even commit to selling, I really just wanted the Casio at the slightly high price they had on it so I wouldn’t have to risk craigslist or shipping damages from buying online. So I just picked up my heavy D50 and walked out without playing his juvenile “who’s the bigger man” type of game. I’m upset I always recommended this place all my musician buddies but oh well, it is what it is.
20. Old Town School Music Store
Address: 4544 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60625 , Brighton Park , Illinois , United States
Store was well stocked and had helpful knowledgable staff.
Great service and a good selection. Even though the Old Town Music Store is small they have a good selection of instruments. I bought my banjo during their banjo sale and was very satisfied. Definitely recommend for abut purchase like an instrument or just some strings. The only thing they don’t have is in-house repairs. They can send your instrument out but it will never be same day.
Great place!
Buscando guitarras !!!!
I was not at the store, but we did see a performance here. Good show, nice place.
Decent selection and prices. Staff is a bit quiet but maybe that’s not a bad thing?
After being told I could have my 45 year old dulcimer restrung same day, I arrived, instrument in hand, to find out that it could only happen the following day. So again on day 2, I spent an hour on local Chicago transit – $10 – and returned to have the counter person tell me that they would not be able to do the work. He claimed he’d called me.
Turns out he called (leaving no message) minutes before I arrived at the store.
If you plan on doing anything more than buying an instrument, make sure you are dealing with an adult who has a grip on customer service.
