Thanks Mark for your help today. You were so honest with me about the issues with my guitar and provided me with a reasonable remedy. I was referred to you by Fender directly and they were spot on in terms of great service. I also really appreciated the ability to set and appointment with and have a one on one experience without the distractions that can be found in a large music store. Thank you again for your service Mark.
Mark T., Is simply the best he’s one of us and then some… A player, multiple instruments very well, many style changes, oh and by the way a Master Craftsman/Luthier, teacher, willing to share even little secrets (I didn’t say that) that can change ur whole approach to our music selves. His werx on instruments is . beyond first rate (Fender has bestowed Gold Status) on Mark for instance… Alchemy rules the day, and our nights playing. ☠✌✝All the best Bif33
WOW! Mark at Tenorio Werx is amazing! I own a handmade bass and recently wanted to have new pickups installed. After having bad luck with another place intown, I called Mark based on his reviews. Not only did he see me on a Saturday which he was getting caught up, he spent an hour of this time talking to me about what my needs where and why my bass isn’t filling my low-end needs. I learned more about my bass, woods, electronics, amps, strings, pick placement, etc. in an hour with him than I have in the past 20 years. He had me plug in and play and then he started making recommendation on how to achieve the tone I’m looking for. ALL FOR FREE! No one else in town will do that! If you want the names of bad luthiers in Denver, I can supply several. If you want the names of some good luthiers in Denver, I can supply maybe one or two. If you want an amazing, knowledgeable and honest luthier in Denver, It’s Mark at Tenorio Werx!
2. Guitar Center
Address: 1585 S Colorado Blvd, Denver, CO 80222 , Cherry Creek , Colorado , United States
Very friendly and helpful staff – that’s the highlight for me. Also a pretty good selection of gear. I would note that a few of the new acoustic guitars could use a bit of TLC
Friendly people and a great service.
Great supply
Very nice equipment and fantastic deals
Staff here has always been kind enough to get me the best deal on any gear I’m looking for. Certainly rather come here and try an item in person than buy something online and risk being dissatisfied and having a difficult return process to deal with.
Went there with a friend to buy a steel string guitar. Our budget was around 200 bucks and we were looking for my buddys 1st accoustic guitar. Many of their guitars in our price range had a serious bow in the necks which made the action too high and tough to play. I asked the salesman if they would adjust the neck if we bought a guitar but he flat out said NO. Many of those guitars wernt set up properly. So if you buy a guitar there, make sure you take someone that knows about guitars or you might get a guitar thats hard to play and basically not set up correctly. Not very good customer service in my opinion. I bet you could get a better playing guitar in a pawn shop or from somebody selling on craigslist.
***UPDATE***
I just bought a used guitar on face book for $91.00. This guitar has very nice action and plays and sounds very nice. It even has a soft case for it. Plays better than most of the guitars hanging on the wall at Guitar Center and the cheapest one there was $159.00. I wish my 1st guitar was this nice. Mr. M is going to love it!
They don’t bother carrying real ear plugs but will sell you plenty of stuff to destroy your hearing
The pro audio department is good except for the knowledge of the gentleman who helped. He was like “sorry bruh, something is not working. I don’t know what but it sounds bad. Call QSC.” He went on to tell me that “daisy chaining is something he has never heard of” Ultimately they sell good consumer end stuff with consumer end knowledge. Guitar center Arvada is more friendly. Same with Fort Collins.
3. Flipside Music
Address: 2231 S Platte River Dr, Denver, CO 80223 , Cherry Creek , Colorado , United States
Awesome store and service/hospitality. Nick (guitar tech) is one of the best in the biz. Great selection of pedals and boutique gear.
great store, great guy. talked to ike at flipside music. i just needed maybe 2 or 3 picks and he sold them to me for about a buck, great service. and of course, he had a plethra of chapman guitars 🙂
Very cool, very chill, very helpful
First Visit. Nice small shop, great pedal selection and some nice guitar brands (Reverend, G&L among others). Really friendly folks.
Good inventory for a small place.
Great place
Overly expensive and also lots of homeless people hanging outside on the street near by. It’s a dump.
4. The Denver Folklore Center
Address: 1893 S Pearl St, Denver, CO 80210 , Cherry Creek , Colorado , United States
I went here for the first time on June 3rd, knowing nothing about guitars. I got my daughters guitar fixed and ready to play. I received fabulous service. Everyone there was incredible! I will return.
Recently got a new guitar that was buzzing quiet a bit. Took it to another place earlier in the day and they said they needed a few weeks to do a setup on it. Stopped into the folklore center and they found the issue and fixed it for me within minutes. Very helpful attentive staff. Will go no where else for all my future acoustic needs. Highly recommend
Hands down selection you will not find anywhere else
Good knowledge folks
They know their stuff, do good repairs, and have a fine selection of quality instruments. Prices and quality tend toward the high end and although friendly, the staff are potentially intimidating to New comers and students.
The shop itself, and especially Angus are fantastic. The luthier however, is not. I asked for one repair on my banjo, which they performed, but they also performed other destructive modifications without asking me. I only discovered the changes and damage when I examined the instrument on pickup. Thankfully it was “only” a $900 instrument. If this had happened to one of my more expensive pieces, I don’t know what I would have done.
An older man sat in the middle of the store and made it clear to not play any instruments unless you were basically committed to purchasing. It was a stiff and uncomfortable environment. It is easy to see from many of the reviews that the business model needs an adjustment. Highly discourage coming unless you want to grovel at the feet of the owner. Also, there were no fiddles. How can they even call themselves a folklore center?
ZERO STARS if it was allowed
I called in advance before I drove down from Loveland to make sure it was ok to try some guitars. I had a specific Martin in mind that was in their inventory and had money in hand ready to buy. Ian was very helpful and set me up to play the guitar for about 30 minutes.
When I asked to look at another guitar, Ian obliged, but a surly older man emerged from the back room to scold me and tell me If I wasn’t prepared to spend “real” money on a guitar he’d rather not let me touch any. I understand covid considerations, which is why I called in advance before driving 60 MILES to make sure I could play. Mind you, there was not another customer in that building for the short time I spent.
Poor Ian looked stunned, and I politely left, completely embarrassed.
You’ve heard of snobbery in music stores?? Well his was worse than any Guitar Center will ever dish out. I will never do business or recommend this place to any one because of one of the worst retail experiences I’ve ever had.
I have successfully purchased that same guitar as of last week.
I miss Harry. He was polite to his customers.
5. Colfax Guitar Shop
Address: 3220 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80206 , Cherry Creek , Colorado , United States
After 40 years noodling around on my acoustic guitar I took it to the Colfax Guitar Shop to get it “set up.” They were easy to work with and reasonably priced. The best part is that it now plays significantly easier. Two lessons learned 1) Colfax Guitar Shop is a great place. 2) I won’t wait 40 years to get another set up.
These guys are the real deal! I’ve taken several instruments to them over the last year after re-discovering guitar during COVID. Their repair work is fantastic and they even converted my dad’s old Kay jumbo from 1952 from ladder bracing to x-bracing.
I had a 1900s Nashville. Looking for an appraisal. Bizarre experience
Not much inventory, mostly a place that fixes guitars
Great customer experience. Very pleased with my guitar setup. Price was reasonable.
NO INTEGRITY! POOR WORK! DISHONEST! HIGH PRICES! THIS PLACE USED TO BE GREAT. THEY HAVE STUDENTS DOING POOR WORK AND INSTEAD OF MANAGEMENT OVERSEEING TO ENSURE QUALITY, THEY PRIORITIZE DEFLECTING AND DEFENDING THEIR SHODDY OUTPUT. DON’T BE FOOLED!
I PAID $270 TO HAVE THEM RETURN MY GUITAR TO ME WITH THE SAME PROBLEM IT HAD WHEN I DROPPED IT, PLUS A NEW PROBLEM! AND THEY DAMAGED MY FRETBOARD WITH SOME CARELESS FILING! I dropped a guitar, asking for a full fret level, I said I was okay with them replacing a saddle, replacing a nut, whatever they needed to do to park that action as low without any buzz! In other words, I was willing to pay for good work. The guy checking in my guitar told me he could probably lower a couple high frets and raise the action. I told him not to do that, I explained I could do that myself! I asked him to do a comprehensive fret level, saddle, nut, whatever was needed to make this thing right. 2 weeks later they call and tell me they raised the action, filed a couple frets and my guitar was ready to pick up? I asked him to do the thing I had initially asked for. So, a couple days later, they say it’s ready. It had the same buzz it had before, plus a new buzz that it didn’t have at all when I dropped it off! I brought it back and asked them to see if they could dial it in, fix those couple things… The manager spends the next 10 minutes arguing with me. He tells me my playing style is too aggressive. I play fingerpicked folk music. This guy never heard me “play” a note. I only thumbed a string a couple times to demonstrate a buzz. He both tried to tell me the undeniable buzzing was okay (and I should be happy with it) and also that it wouldn’t buzz if I played differently. Again, he has no idea how I play and fingerpicked folk is hardly aggressive. I explained that I am unhappy with the work. I just want these buzzes fixed, that I’d paid $270 and what I was promised hadn’t been delivered. In fact, I now have an additional buzz! He tells me we can just start ratcheting up the action and that I should sit there with him for an hour while “we” adjust the truss rod and play. I told him I can do that at home and that I had already adjusted the truss rod to try and eliminate the new buzzes and that I had the action HIGHER THAN IT WAS WHEN I INITIALLY BROUGHT IT IN but was still getting a buzz. So his best remedy was to help me achieve MORE BUZZES AND HIGHER ACTION than when I brought it in. He just kept talking about my “playing style” to deflect from their awful work. They did a horrible job (or didn’t do the job at all). They charged top dollar for it. Manager tried desperately to convince me it’s my fault. It would be like taking your car in for an alignment, they give it back and it’s pulling harder than it was when you dropped it off and they try and convince you that your “driving style” is the problem. You just need to crank the wheel to the left harder! It would have been nice to have them just go, “Oh, it’s still buzzing? Let’s see what we can do to fix it!” Rather than dive directly into arguing with me and trying to gaslight me into believing it’s my fault they suck. The only remedy that was offered was the one I could have done at home, for free, prior to ever having brought this thing in. I could have had the same (or better) result and kept $270 in my pocket. These guys are trash. It’s sad. I suspect if I’d asked them to work on my $5,000 guitar, they would have taken the job a little more seriously. But based on their poor work, and the arrogant, obnoxious attitude of the manager, I wouldn’t trust them to work on anything again. Sloppy.
Over charged for strings 30$ a pack 20$ for a capo horribly over priced would not suggest it.maybe they make custom made guitars not sure.
I brought in a guitar with a Floyd rose tremolo system. The guy at Colfax guitar shop said it was a quick fix setup and would take a week. All this a side, I come in in a week as promised and the guitar at the time appeared to have been set up wonderfully. I even presented a tip to the guy because I was very grateful for the work he did. He asked if I was “sure” that I would tip him and I said “absolutely”. When I got home with the guitar I noticed some things. For one the locking mechanisms on the nut were all crooked. Two days later the high E string snapped. Now a month later some of the strings are buzzing again and some of the notes on the second octave don’t bend or even ring. Now I’m a nice respectable guy and I don’t mean Ill will against them, but if I pay close to a hundred dollars(and I am low income) for someone to adjust the truss rod, restring and in my opinion do just minor work, I expect a certain level of quality. They are great guys and all but next time I think I’ll take my business elsewhere.
Thanks
6. Wedgles Music & Loan
Address: 1122 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203 , Cherry Creek , Colorado , United States
Very nice employees, so helpful…..beautiful instruments, and some very unique antiques
Big fan of Wedgles! Very cool shop with tons of unique vintage gear, plus the basics like guitar strings.
I have been coming here for 5 years, and the service and guitar tech are the best in town. These guys always work with me weather I’m getting a loan or picking up a new guitar. I have purchased all kinds of things here from my wifes drum-set & engagement ring, to a few different amps, and about half a dozen guitars – even my banjo! These guys know SO much about good music and exemplary service, and I always have great success in finding what I need here. I recommend this store to any musician that wants to support good people! (:
I absolutely love this place the staff are Amal and they ALWAYS treat my possessions with care. Also very understanding and work with me on my loans too thnx Wedgels you ROCK!!!
cool music
This is the local pawn shop for your instrumental needs. Great music items
Guy was not nice would not let me see the guitar he said he was not going to get guitar down if I wasn’t going to buy
I purchased a used acoustic guitar from this company and after only a few weeks I’ve had serious issues with the bridge, saddle, string tree, tuning pegs and the nuts for the guitar strap. Whatever repairs Wedgles Music made to this guitar before they put it out for sale were done with extremely low quality workmanship. It looks to me like they did whatever they had to do to get the guitar in a presentable condition and working just enough to get it out the door. I was even assured by the representatives that the guitar had been inspected and tested before being put out for sale and was told that it was basically as good as new which is why they were charging so much for a used guitar. Now my options are to purchase a brand new instrument or spend the equivalent of what I paid for the guitar in repairs. The customer service and the gentleman I worked with were OKAY, but I will would not recommend this shop to anyone. Here is a more detailed description of the issues: Bridge holes were worn out significantly and too big to hold bridge pins. As a result the pins slip out when tuning. The saddle that was installed was not fitted properly, and was extremely loose to the point that it falls out on its own. The screw holding the string guide (string tree) in place fell out after just a few days due to poor threading. The tuning pegs are not in great condition but are functional – I decided this was not a major issue and would replace myself upon inspection of the guitar before purchase but combined with all the other issues it becomes more significant. Lastly, even the pegs/nuts for the guitar strap came out. All of this happened in the course of a couple weeks which means that this guitar was probably never in great condition in the first place. In order to fix these issues and turn this into a useable instrument I would need to have a new bridge installed, a customized saddle and nut made and installed, new tuning pegs and a new hold drilled into headstock for string guide threading. If I were you I would not buy from these folks.
If Wedgles Music decides to take ownership of these issues it would be a different story, as I understand businesses can’t be perfect or get it right 100% of the time. But when I called and informed them there was no effort to even try to make this right.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend this shop to anyone as they have lost my trust.
This place is a fence for stolen goods. They repeatedly sell merchandise that they know has been reported as stolen. They deliberately do not enter purchased merchandise into the statewide stolen property database as required by law.
They intentionally obtain as little information as possible from people selling stolen goods to protect theives from legal consequences.
Do not inform them if you find your stolen merchandise on display or it will “miraculously” sell right away before the law can intervene. Just contact the police first!
Very corrupt business practices.
7. Victor Guitar
Address: 1457 S Broadway, Denver, CO 80210 , Cherry Creek , Colorado , United States
Edward , Heath and everyone extremely helpful, outstanding customer service, personable, they all went above and beyond for me. I’m so grateful for their advice. I will recommend them to anyone who needs honest answer on anything about guitar.
Went in to check out all the old guitars and the new owner was even kind enough to dig out a part I needed out of his secret stash. Would definitely recommend.
Edward has fixed my Martin guitar, (and friend), two times… When my guitar exploded and he put it back together solid and still plays like it never happen. Recently he nearly removed a gouge on its base so well its nearly invisible. He also crafted new frets since I had worn down the old ones and worked on the action. I feel like I have a new guitar. I will recommend Victor Guitar to anyone who will listen.
Pretty mediocre experience. Setup and binding work was done properly, but that was it. Poor communication, poor turn-around time and poor customer service. There are much better spots to take your acoustic in Denver.
I would not recommend this place at all. Even after reading a few good reviews I was amazed at the poor quality of work that was done. I had a family member drop my guitar off to have it polished, adjusted, and knew strings. Also, I needed the electric wires taped on the inside that had come loose. I had spoke to them specifically about this. After 2 weeks with no call that the guitar was done, I had the same family member pick my guitar up. No polish, no adjustments, no wires taped back inside. They did put new strings on (wrong gadge) and they decided to put black permanent marker on several scuffs we agreed to be left alone. This is very noticeable. I’m very sad that my guitar was handled this way. I called and they just said bring it back. Very unhappy. This was my baby. So essentially I paid $106 for the wrong stings and black permanent marker I didn’t ask for. I’m surprised because they advertise such good work. I will never let them touch my guitar. A tech named “Heath” was supposedly the one who worked on it. I hope this helps others that are looking to have a simple fix. GO TO THE GUITAR SHOP ON COLFAX. he might be a dick but he does good work at least. That is all.
Unbelievable place for all types of music. Could hang out for hours and never get bored. Definite stop for audiophiles when in Denver.
Has everything best in the mile high…
Great place, pretty good selection and a kind of eccentric store. I enjoyed it
Its okay.
Neat music shop with listening stations and great deals!
A great place to shop for all things music, vinyl, CD, books, posters, and more. You can get your collection appraised or sell your vinyl too. Its a great place to hang out, browse, and or check out music.
People were injured at the Gracie event!!! Poorly planned!!!
Used records were waaay overpriced
I’ve been coming to twist and shout for 2 years and the employees are always rude, unhelpful, and frankly the records are overpriced
11. Gravity Music Gear
Address: 6487 Federal Blvd, Denver, CO 80221 , Cherry Creek , Colorado , United States
Awesome staff super friendly and great prices! If your in that area I recommend stopping by
I wanted to say these guys are awesome and an honest group of people. They have some good guitars and worked with me on one that I really liked. I would definitely come check them out in the future for the next guitar…and the next….
What a great store! You need to come here before you go anywhere else. We need more places like these.
Everything is more than reasonably priced. They will work with you and if not they will tell ya.
Looking forward to coming back and spending more money!
Limited selection, but good service, solid prices.
I just stopped in but very nice place.
Helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Dropped in with a friend. He had some business to do there. I guess since I wasn’t spending money they wouldn’t let me use their rest room. Told me to go across the street.
Place seems to only be good for buying and selling gear. Don’t call expecting to be able to speak with anyone who actually knows or is willing to discuss adjustments to gear or instruments because they won’t be able to help. Think only sales men and no actual musicians or subject matter experts, or at least none that care to help.
Horrible people! Store and merchandise appears to have been carpet bombed! Don’t waste your time!!
Joel is a fantastic educator. With equal parts humor and discipline, he has transformed my squirrelly 7 and 9 year old sons into two kids who are asking for longer piano lessons! Joel meets kids where they are and manages to hold them to a high standard while also making the lessons fun. I wholeheartedly recommend Joel Zigman!
I decided to take up the ukulele as a self care practice and working with Joel has been great! He is patient, knowledgeable and fun to work with. Joel is very skillful at explaining things in a way that makes sense to a beginner. He gave me realistic goals that I could accomplish which really boosted my confidence. Trying to learn from YouTube was just discouraging. I highly recommend him if you’re looking to improve in a fun, low stress environment!
Both my sons have piano and guitar lessons from Joel! (Me and my husband have guitar lessons as well. 😉 Everybody loves him: he is friendly, adaptive to everyone’s preferences and very playful. Both our boys are learning a ton and playing beautiful pieces. His teaching is very skillful: he uses different methods to trigger reflection and learning. And he also makes all of us SING! I am so grateful we found him!
My 8 year old son has been taking drum lessons from Nate for some time and it has been absolutely wonderful! Nate is very knowledgeable and patient utilizing different techniques and always making sure that they are having fun playing! He is accommodating and easy to communicate with and has been amazing to work with! We would definitely recommend Nate to anyone who is looking for lessons!
I started taking drums lessons with Nate as a beginner and he has completely exceeded my expectations. Not only is he extremely skilled and talented, but he is a great teacher. He is thoughtful, patient, and a lot of fun. I would recommend Nate to anyone looking to take drum lessons!
Nate is the best piano teacher I’ve had. He meets the student where they’re at in terms of how and what they would like to learn. For example, initially I wanted to learn how to play by ear and he did a wonderful job teaching that way, and we now transitioned to playing by notes as I wanted to try that as well. Nate also does a great job of allowing the student to choose the music genres they want to learn and play, and scheduling is very flexible and easy. I highly recommend Nate.
