Staff have always been friendly to me and are very knowledgeable of the products they keep in stock. I love that they carry Godin and Seagull guitars because they are not as well known as they should be. Their product selection isn’t as broad as Mammoth but is focused on quality over quantity and I am sure they can get something ordered for you if they don’t have it in stock.
Very nice friendly people and a lot of great instruments
Alaska Music and Sound us the place to go for sheet music, instruments, reeds, strings, drumsticks and a nice range of fun items for musicians (think stickers, music-themed earrings, etc.). We rent our daughter’s instrument here, and she takes a weekly lesson at the shop, too. We’re happy with the service in the shop and the consistent level of professionalism from her teacher. Our daughter has attended a master class here, too, with professional musicians. In short, whether you’re an established musician, someone who’d like to rent an instrument and get started, or a parent wanting to support a child just getting started in music, Alaska Music and Sound is a great resource!
Really friendly and helpful staff
Good service.
Sells well made oboe reeds. Would definitely recommend buying oboe reeds here
2. Matanuska Music
Address: 280 N Willow Dr, Wasilla, AK 99654 , Chevak , Alaska , United States
Staff are very helpful and seem very knowledgeable Will most definitely be a repeat customer
And excellent customer centered music store. You receive personalized care and help when you walk in the door. Come and see for yourself. If they don’t have it they will do their best to get it.
Our daughter loves going in here and seeing all the different instruments. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly and prices are fair.
They have an extensive selection of instruments & accessories. The staff is helpful & courteous. I will definitely be back!
It’s all about the bass, bout the bass. No treble!
They had everything I needed to fix my acoustic guitar, excellent service.
Purchased a guitar and amp with all of the accessories for a new player. Upon picking up the guitar, the amp I picked out was sold, and another amp was put on the table with no explanation of where the other amp was. The amp was a decent brand, so I didn’t say anything, and the amp was also new. After using the amp, I had significant issues that I had to troubleshoot. Nothing worked. I returned them amp and explained what I had done to troubleshoot, and they did not want to look at it. I asked for the original amp I picked out, and the staff became angry and aggressive. I attempted to calm things down and solve the issue, but then they gave me the amp that I had originally played and asked me to leave. I will never return.
These Guys has absolutely no clue about what they’re selling/doing.
Better drive 100 miles more instead dealing with these non professional “sellers??????”
Keep you money don’t buy here
3. Guitar Center
Address: 2880 Seward Hwy, Anchorage, AK 99503 , Chevak , Alaska , United States
I am a big supporter of small local business, but after a few purchases and interaction with our local Guitar Center, I can not say enough good things. The management and staff have been exceptional to say the least.
Austin has always been a huge help! He deserves a raise! Their whole staff is great and appreciated for the time they spend answering qiestions.
Wow, a well stocked, quiet music store with a knowledgeable staff who also play is refreshing to us road weary tour musicians. Fantastic gear selection and reasonable prices make this a must stop when in Anchorage, Alaska. Don’t miss it, just go.
Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, helped me everytime and answered all my questions thoroughly. Great veriety of instruments, love this place
Second day open, staff was nice and friendly. Store with lots of typical equipment and instrument choices, no custom gear here and no studio gear tho. Prices are high compared to online, local and other GC stores down south. No GC pro, Plano GC has more than this…
Will still buy from John @ Horn Doctor locally
Good Luck GC
High spirited staff with good deals.
tf a guitar
My bf signed up for drum lessons here, after getting the run around and attitude from Selina he finally got them booked. He loved the first lesson but he came for the next one and it was some else he didnt click with. They told him though they dont give refunds. We went to talk to Mark and he would not even come out . We asked for his name and the rude lady told us to google it!!!!!!
A giant chain store that charges for shipping to their store for online purchases. No other chain store does this anymore, but GC needs to tax Alaskans. Shop at your local music store. GC is garbage!
4. Mammoth Music
Address: 500 E 5th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Chevak , Alaska , United States
Bought a Roland fp30x today and stand. Great service, friendly staff. The goto place in Anchorage for anything music and rentals. Price was beyond fair.
Been a customer of this establishment for over two decades. That’s all I need to say.
Very helpful staff and large selection of ukelele’s.
Great
Great place just a little too pricey on older gear
These guys have great deals and their employees are very knowledgeable in all things instruments. I highly recommend Mammoth Music!
I’ve been a customer for years and was sold a broken used guitar that the salesman later told me that they knew was broken. Forget these guys, at least Guitar Center won’t scam you.
I turned in my guitar for been calibrated a month ago and they didn’t work on it. I never received a call from them. I asked for my refund.
Nothing but problems. Been going to this place strings and such for 16 years now, but I would say I’m officially done. Would prefer to buy local but…
Staff is unpleasant unless they think you will be spending lots of money. Not knowledgeable. Not courteous. The only thing this place has going for it is a lack of competition.
5. Music Mart & Studios
Address: 413 Noble St, Fairbanks, AK 99701 , Chevak , Alaska , United States
Anita and her staff are very knowledgeable and helpful
They always have what I need friendly good service
Service is Great, I loved our time talking to the experts about our banjo and they treated us like rock starts, I’m grateful for a music shop in our area that has good Services and prices on everything and even include rockstar Service! I can’t give these guy’s enough stars on this review, we will definitely be back!
Selection is large. Service was friendly but seemed slightly off putting while browsing. Once a purchase was made, service became exponentially better. Would do business again.
Salesman wasn’t wearing a mask and didn’t know where to find the instrument that I was looking for. However as I was leaving, the repair man found it and followed me out the door to let me know.
the back door of the place uses a guitar mounted on the ceiling as a door chime. its the coolest door chime idea ive ever seen.
Not impressed by their customer service, although I did get what I needed done, thus the 2 stars. I’ve been a few times over a period of 7 years and both times they were rude. I’ve also known people who have said they were rude. I’ll try Pro Music next time perhaps.
Expensive
I came in with my dad to look at guitars and to ask a price on his old banjo. I know my instruments and how to find the correct prices on used items. The lady who helped us, gave us the correct price, but she was talking down to us the whole time. I have never seen my dad treated so rudely.
