Love this place! Feel much better about spending my hard earned money at Jimmy’s rather than at Uncle Bezos’ music shop, that’s for sure!
Jimmy’s is what a home town music store should be. Stay off line and go see Jimmy.
Everything you’d need in a music store!
Good local music, guitar store
Jimmy’s music was very nice store however seemed understaffed.
Cute store pack with tons of things.
They did not have what we were looking for.
Had my mind set on buying a new piano keyboard and supporting this local music store in Durango and to know that the workers (maybe even the owners) don’t know how to treat their customers is very disappointing. When I walked in I wasn’t greeted, even after a few minutes I wasnt asked how I was doing or IF I NEEDED HELP FINDING ANYTHING. I know what you’re thinking “maybe he was busy” nooooo! Because there was another worker there and no one else was in the store. I wasn’t addressed or anything until I was about to leave. I know I’m an adult and maybe I should have just asked him myself but if I’m gonna spend a few hundred dollars at your store then I’d expect to be treated like it let alone be WELCOMED INTO THE STORE! But my question is why? Did I not looked like a serious buyer? Was it cause I was wearing a mask? Or was it cause I was brown? My questions are valid and justified through the actions of the workers. Sad to know that people are treated differently for whatever reason. Such a bad impression on the community and very disappointing experience.
2. Meeker Music Inc
Address: 624 N Tejon St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 , Comé , Colorado , United States
The staff is always so helpful. It makes it much easier and less stressful for me as a musically illiterate father of two musically inclined children to get what they need. They know which questions to ask to help me remember which kind of strings or reeds or sheet music I need to get for them. And they always have what we need, even emergency loaner instruments for a concert when something suddenly breaks. I highly recommend them for your musical instrument needs.
Gr8 customer service
Love this place. Customer service is awesome.
We love Meeker Music. They are always so friendly and very informative. My daughter is the one that plays. She’ll ask me to pick up something. I don’t even have to know what it is; they know exactly what the kid is talking about.
Local business with good staff and band supplies. Item markup can be a little high, though.
The ladies were very helpful on instructing us which reed to purchase for my daughter’s saxa phone.
Over this place and their terrible customer service. There staff is so unfriendly and lazy. After 5 years of patience with their staff, I can’t handle it anymore.
We needed a larger instrument and the lady tried to say we would be fine with the size down. When we explained that our daughter’s teacher said she needed the larger size, she was upset because she had to go upstairs for it. I’m not even joking.
Not only that, we were given an instrument with a broken case because they didn’t have a proper one on hand. They suggest I sew it myself. They later replaced it after that one broke and I had to follow up on the previous replacement.
Any time we’ve been in the store, we have been greeted with ignorance and rude attitudes. I won’t even get into the recent situation but I have had it and will never rent or purchase from meeker music again. What a terrible establishment.
Was just there planning on buying a new instrument. Had a few hundred dollars in my pocket and walking in I wasn’t even looked at by the lady at the register. Upon playing the stringed instruments for about 15 minutes (mind you half that time I was tuning them all for them) I was told I had 5 minutes to buy something or I’d be asked to leave. It’s a shame I had my eye on a Washburn electric mandolin, strings, cables and rosin… could have been a 400 dollar sale but with that kind of rudeness I’ll take my business to one of the stores I frequent. BYE
My daughter and myself are new to musical instruments and are both learning the guitar together. We were replacing the strings on my daughters classical acoustic with nylon strings and the younger gentleman there did a good job at helping me to find the right ones. When we got home to replace the strings it became clear that these would not work as her guitar required the strings to have the ball stop at the end. Well as we all know being a professional and a Father, Time often times is hard to come by. When I was finally able to get back to the store asking only to return to purchase the correct strings the crass woman I presume is the manager was very rude and unwilling to help out. This is the first encounter I have had at this music shop that was negative but someone whom is so adamant at causing others problems and receives satisfaction out of inconveniencing others is not a good person. This is my experience I thought I would share.
3. Gravity Music Gear
Address: 6487 Federal Blvd, Denver, CO 80221 , Comé , Colorado , United States
Very friendly business with an owner that is hands on. Always head here for strings and the new guitar or two I have purchased. Would never buy on line. These guys are great and I love supporting them. Their advice is 100% on point.
Cool staff nice place, wish I could see the prices of the stuff behind the counter without asking but cool local guitar shop.
Good store for inexpensive used gear
Great equipment at decent prices.
Heavy on amps and pa, but you can never tell what will walk in.
Got used drum parts cheaper than new
Owner is a pretentious d bag. They clean all their products with windex and WD-40. It’s literally just a pawn shop. They’re objective is to screw you and get your gear as cheap as possible and sell it for as close to retail as they can. They have 2 good employees that I seriously feel bad for.
Rude personnel and they low ball you
Great place to find some awesome gear! Unfortunately I had a terrible experience returning something I had bought 10 days ago…I realized the amp I bought didn’t have a line out so I tried to exchange it and they would only honor $100 less than I paid for it.
The employee advocated for me to his manage but the manager wouldn’t budge or even talk to me about it.
Super frustrating to lose $100 for no good reason at all.
Go here if you want to find some good gear but make sure it’s the right kind or they’ll make you pay.
4. Music Go Round Colorado Springs
Address: 410 W Fillmore St, Colorado Springs, CO 80907 , Comé , Colorado , United States
This place is awesome evry wa helpfull and friendly
Great place and professional and knowledgeable staff. It is the go-to spot for used music gear here in springs, very fair whether you’re buying or selling
Average shop customer service should be improved
Decent little shop that will generally take care of your basic needs. Don’t expect a giant selection of goods or rarities, but do expect friendly service, and that is worth much more than the value of other similar stores.
lots of gear and good service
Total lack of professionals. Wanna get overpriced equipment come on on in. Nothing personal
Rude service.
October 2019 Sold me UNDISCLOSED DAMAGED equipment online through the Internet. They packed it extremely well. Shipping box was not damaged in anyway So it was damaged when they packaged it October 2019. They did offer refund but they’re not willing to pay the shipping for their product that was damaged (MY LOSS) Always verify the physical & working condition with your own eyes “never take a salesmans word for it“… I’m the Fool… other than that “LOVE MUSIC GO ROUNDS”!!
5. Affordable Music
Address: 104 Village Pl, Dillon, CO 80435 , Comé , Colorado , United States
It’s a true music shop. local made guitars, cool old stuff. Had all the essentials and most important what I needed.
As a professional musician, I love having Affordable Music nearby! Gary orders the strings for my 10 guitars that I use and always has what I need for the stage and studio. His guitar and amp selection is really great. I have purchased several “affordable” instruments from them and love every one of them! For the price…they are amazing quality and sound and play great!
Absolutely amazing place. Came in an emergency looking for a cord and they helped us out with exactly what we needed. If I could give 100 stars, I would!
I’ve heard good things about it but I was upstairs at pug Ryan’s bar
Limited selection, average prices
Surprisingly good 45 selection.
Owner is a racist. He harassed my friend for shopping while black , four times AFTER he bought a CD. We went outside and had to show the police his recite.
Great place to shop if you are worried someone is impersonating you. Don’t shop there if you are black, he might call the cops.
A shambles. Nothing affordable. Maybe okay for guitars, but not music. Looks like a yard sale gone bad. Used vinyl is poor quality, C- vinyl and covers disorganized and twice the price of Denver. Boxes of unsorted records strewn about. New stuff is full list price. Not worth the effort of stopping. Waste of time
Sells broken products. Very expensive.
6. GLENWOOD MUSIC
Address: 3102 Blake Ave D, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 , Comé , Colorado , United States
Great music store! Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Prices comparable to any online retailer in the USA. If its not in stock, they’ll get it for you. I also recommend the repair shop. They can fix almost anything regarding music instruments as well.
Best music place in the area… saxo reeds…violin’s bridge… metronome ect… very professional hat’s off
Great selection and great service. My go to music store.
W H A T ?? I can’t hear you !! Lol. Yeah it sounds good . ha ha .
I may have never purchased anything from this store, but they have a kickass mural of a gorilla playing a Flying V on the side of the building and it rules. The gorilla is probably playing “Cemetery Gates” by Pantera at full blast.
Guess you’re not open until 6pm…
Not Very NIce or knowledgeable.Been in there several times to pick up strings or picks stuff i needed for that day. and it seemed liked they didn’t have time for me or my questions. Its a bummer because I own a live sound company and it would be nice to pick up all my supplies from a local store.
I took my guitar in to sell on consignment. I was told I would be called when it sold. After 2 weeks I called to see if it sold. I was then told it had sold the week before but I never was called by the owner. When I went in to get my portion of the money, the owner was very standoffish and if he had been a bit more approachable I would have told him how he never called me to tell me it sold. Luckily I won’t have any reason to go back there for any reason!
Very disrespectful people. I hate spending my money there but it’s the only local music store 🙁
7. Flipside Music
Address: 2231 S Platte River Dr, Denver, CO 80223 , Comé , Colorado , United States
By far one of the best shops in Colorado to go to for pedals. The guys who run the shop are friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend for anyone who likes a relaxed atmosphere and great variety, as well as fair prices on used gear.
Ike and the boys are fantastic! They are always insanely friendly and warm. I bought a guitar special ordered from them, and Nick set it up for me without question immediately. I am very thankful to them. They are my favorite
Music store in denver!
Very kind and helpful
Good inventory for a small place.
Best service in this category
First Visit. Nice small shop, great pedal selection and some nice guitar brands (Reverend, G&L among others). Really friendly folks.
Overly expensive and also lots of homeless people hanging outside on the street near by. It’s a dump.
8. Colorado Institute of Musical Instrument Technology
Address: 651 Topeka Way # 100, Castle Rock, CO 80109 , Comé , Colorado , United States
After scanning the QR code on the post card it was easy sailing. I always get a little nervous when trying to complete a form on my phone, but this process was pretty painless. Lol. Thank you for helping me rent (and maybe one day buy) a guitar for my daughter.
This is a FANTASTIC shop. It’s family owned and operated, the service is great, and the staff maintains excellent communication throughout the process. I’m very picky when selecting a vendor for instrument purchases, and I can’t recommend CIOMIT enough.
This is a great family owned spot and they are so kind. My daughter is renting a Viola and they have been so helpful and quick with repairs as well when needed. I highly suggest this business for your instrumental needs! They also have tons of accessories and cute socks in the store.
Reviewed by educators as a good training school for instrument repair
Staff very helpful.
Very knowledgable place and trustworthy. We drive all the way from Aurora to have them work on our instraments. They are also reasonably priced.
I took my flute in, not only did they not bash on the flute but they made the flute worse. Now I have to get about $1,000 worth of work on it done. They striped the corkscrew and did not put the pads back in alignment, so now it is harder to play.
This place is awful. Purchased a flute from a Craigslist posting. Flute doesn’t fit my needs. Attempted to return flute in less than a day and they will not refund me my money.
They never said all sales final. Do not go here. They are shady. The guy Brad sold me the flute for cash to avoid taxes on it.
Be cautious. They may buy insufficient product to replace your expensive equipment.
Do not rent from this place! Returned the instrument 6 months ago, they are still charging my credit card. Worst customer service I have ever seen in the state of Colorado.
9. Music Go Round
Address: 8055 W Bowles Ave #2C, Littleton, CO 80123 , Comé , Colorado , United States
Always a good assortment of music gear at good prices!
Fantastic store. Scott the owner is a consummate professional. Needed a 1/2 violin on short notice for my daughter. Called ahead to confirm they had one. They pulled it aside, cleaned up up, explained the buy-back policy and did everything they could to make the sale as easy as possible.
Will go back again and again!!
Customer service was top notch, and the prices are very hard to beat….will definitely be coming back!
Staff is a great bunch of guys who have a grasp of what’s what about musical instruments. It used to be a good place to sell your used appointment. I would give you a a decent price but nowadays they won’t even give you a price better than what a pawn shop will give you. I’ve noticed in last couple of years their prices have gone up. They don’t negotiate the prices, which puts customer at a disadvantage Because condition is a huge part in what you pay. I will still stop in and check their inventory. But not as often as I used to.
Very knowledgable and helpful
EDIT: Since my initial review below, Scott (the store owner) contacted me, verified my attempts at contact (taking the time to dig up emails), and made everything right. I returned the pedal and he confirmed that it was a modified unit and refunded me in total. I’m relieved to hear that this is not considered acceptable at their store and would give 5 stars if someone would have contacted me sooner. Many thanks to Scott.
INITIAL REVIEW: I purchased a used Boss FRV-1 reverb pedal online. Turned out to be a bogus pedal with some other circuit mounted in the FRV-1 chassis. The tone potentiometer was merely mounted freely and unconnected to the circuitboard to keep up the false appearance. At first, I only knew that the thing wasn’t working correctly so I emailed them but never recieved a response after repeated attempts. I hesitated to call, hoping I could figure out/find something minor about the pedal that could be easily fixed. I eventually called and was placed on hold and no one picked up. When I got around to opening the pedal chassis up, I found what I described above.
Bought a DJ mixer online and paid shipping. Called up after 3 days as I didn’t receive any update about my order. Guy told me that they sold the mixer at the store and will just issue me a refund. What a joke of a store.
I wish this place was cool, but the prices are a little too high, the trade-in value is half of what you’d sell on Craigslist/Facebook, and the staff couldn’t care less. Nice browsing opportunity though.
Edit for owner: thanks for your response, I “understand” now.
I stand by my opinion. Best of luck.
Just leaving the store now! I was trying to get some more information on a couple different things in the store but despite their not being a lot of people in the store for staff did their best to not make eye contact or help me oh well!
10. Wildwood Guitars
Address: 500 S Arthur Ave STE 700, Louisville, CO 80027 , Comé , Colorado , United States
I have been looking for a PRS for quite a while and have had such a hard time finding the model I was looking for in a color I liked. When I saw this guitar on their website, I loved it but given the price, really wanted to try it out. The ‘showroom closed’ message on their website caused me to be unsure if I would be able to try out the guitar. When I called I was greeted by the most helpful sales person I think I have ever spoken with. He helped me think through options I might want to try, and importantly, he let me know that if the weather is nice they are letting people try out guitars out front of the store. Like a curbside guitar test drive! I live an hour away, so I called ahead and headed over today, and when I got there the owner was out front greeting the people coming to try guitars personally. If the person on the phone was helpful, he was even more so. I have been in and around musical instrument sales since I was 21 years old in one way, shape of form and stores like GC could really learn a thing or two from this level of kindness in their customer service (and I say that as a former GC employee cira 2001). Honestly, I am glad the inside of the store is closed, not because I wouldn’t have loved to see a store full of guitars, but because nothing compares to the experience I had today. This is the first time I have ever gotten to try out any instruments, let alone this beautiful guitar, with a view of the front range on a spectacular fall Colorado day. He brought out an amp, and let me settle in and get to know the guitars. Aside from that, getting to see the finish of the guitars I was trying out in natural sunlight gave me such an incredible picture of the guitars finish and details. Being newer to guitar, this was my first time purchasing a guitar from Wildwood, and they now have a life long customer. Even if I wouldn’t have been able to go to the store, the willingness of the store staff to support the buying experience was second to none. This, without a doubt, was the best purchasing experience I think I have ever had. If you are looking for a guitar, this is the place to go! Thank you so much Wildwood!! The photo of the guitar (now hanging in my studio) is below.
I bought my first Taylor K28e (first edition) from online. Mr. Lance and Mr. Bruce( from Peoria ) are amazing and super helpful. Love the guitar and it’s better than the pictures on the web. Everything in the box is what I asked for. They packed it well (professionally) and shipped it super fast. Thank you again.
I have never purchased an expensive instrument off the internet but working with Troy at Wildwood Guitars made it as easy as it gets. He was extremely patient with me asking for pictures of multiple items and then asking for more pictures and then even more pictures. Once I narrowed my selection down to two guitars Greg, Troy and the rest of the team were gracious enough to make a short demo video so I could compare the tone on each one. I was able to make an informed decision instantly. The customer service that I received from everyone at Wildwood Guitars in unparalleled. If you are looking for an amazing instument with customer service to match this is the place for you. A huge thank you to Troy, Greg and the whole team at Wildwood Guitars!!
I really love wildwood. Review would have been 5 stars but the covid restrictions won’t allow for entry Into the showroom so you you have to buy blindly. If there are issues the staff takes care of them promptly however.
Inconsistent service. Sometimes they’ll reply to your emails when you want help in buying an item, some other times they’ll ignore you.
Nice inventory, but really more online-oriented
Slow
Lack of information
And asking of personal information
Excellent store as far as selection however I would not expect any service after the sale. I purchased a Martin D-28 Custom Shop. Used a humidifier to the recommended specs and less than a month after purchasing the guitar the center if the guitar split down the center. I called Wildwood and they told me there was nothing they would do. Told me I had to contact a service center other than them. They did not offer to take the guitar back and or replace it. I was surprised by their lack of service in something over $4k. I would not use them again. I am not hard to please but the fact that they would do nothing was really poor service in my opinion.
Went to Wildwood to purchase a guitar, but the storeroom was closed. A customer was trying out gear in the parking lot with the owner. Why not let one customer in at a time or make an appointment? Anyway, my guitar search continues… Just at another store.
11. Guitars Etc
Address: 750 9th Ave, Longmont, CO 80501 , Comé , Colorado , United States
These guys are Great! I needed a digital piano for my wife for valentines and they quickly led me to the best options. Todd is friendly and helpful as can be. Will definitely continue to support this local business!
Amazing and knowledgable staff! Incredibly helpful and experienced.
Super nice people, great owner. Very attentive and willing to listen. They also have a great selection! Never need to go anywhere else for a guitar.
Bought several hundreds of dollars of musical instruments from this local establishment over the years. Then one day the owner very rudely popped off at my child for playing a banjo I indented to purchase from him. Purchased it somewhere else. I’ll go back, but may not be so inclined to spend my money there.
Tried a few times to get a rosen for a stand up bass. They never seemed to carry it. They were always on order. Keep things in stock totally would have given a 5 star. Otherwise staff seemed very helpful, and nice.
Not much for bass.
Good service depends on the day that you go in. They have eyes on you the whole time like you are going to break something. Would rather drive to the nearest Guitar Center.
You guys are never open and so rude. Prices are wayyyyyyt to high. And also no one wants to steal your items.
Really disappointed. They have so many nice guitars and not one nice employee. I probably won’t but anything from this store.
12. Jensen Guitars
Address: 360 Main St, Longmont, CO 80501 , Comé , Colorado , United States
Great personalized service. Took the time to properly prepare and tune the instruments for immediate use. Highly recommend.
Great music store with friendly and knowledgable staff.
A great music store! Don helped me adjust a guitar right in the store because they were blasted with too much luthier work at the time. The also set up my seven string that is set up *perfectly*. The intonation is perfect, it stays in tune, and the action is just the way I requested. I’m very picky – but this shop has earned my trust and respect. Thank you!
Good people knowledgeable, highly recommend
We love this place. Kids do lessons here and the teachers are great. Friendly staff.
Bought the tool I need next in my grand plan. 5 string Bass. It’s a pretty beauty.
Nice selection but not very good customer service. The cashier seemed more interested in planning his next ski trip than helping us out.
Edit: I did not review the wrong place. We watched the cashier playing around with Google Maps on the store computer (maybe not skiing, but definitely not work). We spent about 15 minutes there and he never greeted or acknowledged us. We had much better experiences at Larry’s and Guitars Etc.
Sad to see such poor customer service.
What happened to this place? The new tech is not good. It’s like they knocked the back wall down and hired a bunch of second hand workers. Got my guitar back and now I don’t even want to play it with how bad the set up was done, getting an atrocious ringing sound coming from my bridge. Go to someone more experienced. Sad because this place used to be the bees knees back in the day.
13. Mountain States Musical
Address: 311 E Abriendo Ave, Pueblo, CO 81004 , Comé , Colorado , United States
Very friendly, courteous, helpful..with good advice. Not pushy.
I stopped in today to buy my boyfriend a guitar, the customer service and friendliness of the staff was amazing as they helped me choose the perfect guitar. I’m proud to support mom and pops and I most definitely will be back! Thanks for the personalized service.
Come support your local music shop
I’ve had several guitars set up at Mountain States Musical in the past. The work was well-performed and done quickly. I wish the review ended there.
Recently (as in this afternoon), I took two guitars in to have them set up. When asked where I got them, I truthfully said I got them both on the Internet, one as a brand new instrument from an authorized Fender dealer and the other as a used private party sale. The new Strat needed basic intonation and action set as well as having some sprouting fret ends filed down. The used Dot needed just intonation and action setup.
Immediately after this, I was quoted $125-130 each to do the setup work on them including a $90 “up charge for Internet instruments.” When I asked why the up charge, I was told it was because most Internet instruments are junk and are tons of work (paraphrased) at which point I packed up the guitars and left.
While I can understand charging more money for more challenging instrument setups, where an instrument was procured doesn’t really factor into the equation. A Fender Strat from Musician’s Friend doesn’t require more or less work to set up than a Fender Strat from Guitar Center (and in fact they’re the same company).
I’m very disappointed that I’ll probably have to take these guitars to another shop to have them set up since I’ve been happy with their work in the past. I won’t be returning.
These guys got all the guitars. that’s about it, a couple other instruments.
Jim and Jesse are really helpful, and a great selection of guitars.
No marching drum sticks.. No practice pads….
Been by there half a dozen times, can never catch them open.
14. Guitar Center
Address: 535 N Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80909 , Comé , Colorado , United States
Most excellent goto for all the musicians needs. Great service! Definitely helped out the band in a pinch who was playing at the Black Sheep on a Friday night. Thanks GC!!!
Amazing staff, immediately attentive, great choices of equipment and parts, and the tech there, Ian, is an amazing individual.
They have a moderate Alton off drums and cymbals
Ok selection of guitars
This is a smaller store so the selection isn’t as varied but the employees are super friendly and helpful!
Every time I go to this GC I tell myself “it won’t be so bad this time” and I’m always wrong. It’s impossible to stop in quickly, there’s always a wait for what seems like nothing. The staff is always clueless. The only time I go is in an emergency because I KNOW I will leave annoyed.
Skip this,, their lessons are sub par at best. My experience here was terrible, the scheduling department is completely disheveled and inaccurate. I showed up to no instructor and then was asked why I missed lessons. My recommendation is to skip this all together. Find a private lesson that will follow through and do what they say. Furthermore they refuse to make it right, no refund for unused lessons and no credit when they weren’t ready. SMH
Stood at the counter for 15 minutes while the employees stood around and talked with each other. I finally just left.
15. Blue Mesa Music Store
Address: 132 N Main St, Gunnison, CO 81230 , Comé , Colorado , United States
Knowledgeable and friendly staff, but not even a little pushy. Usually when you walk into a boutique guitar store, you feel like you have to make small talk with the owner and have to try to escape the encounter to actually look at things. They paid me just the right amount of attention, letting me browse and answering questions. They had no qualms with me playing a $300 squier (again, set-up AND in tune!) or the $4k vintage Martin casually hanging on the wall. Great place to spend some time and some money!
Great shop with an eclectic collection. Knowledgeable and they encourage you to play everything.
Thank you Matt for getting my little Fender set up so well. I really do hear hints of Buddy Guy now when I play. I appreciate having you as a local resource, mentor and friend. PS..Christine says a big, deep hello.
16. Moondog Music Shop
Address: 1716 W Uintah St, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 , Comé , Colorado , United States
My Telecaster had been running without the neck pickup for months after I got a little too intense on stage one night. I considered fixing it myself, but my knowledge of these things is rudimentary at best. Being new to the area, I took it to Moondog after some recommendations and immediately felt confident about my decision from my conversation with Mike. Two days later I got a call indicating he’d already finished. Not only was it a far lower price than I’d expected, he was also detailed in explaining what he’d done (with photos) and even did a little extra just to make sure my Tele was in the best shape possible. This guitar sounds better than ever, thanks again!
Best place in town to get guitar work done.
Excellent service and a great price
Everyone says this place is always closed when they say that they will be open. Well unfortunately that is the reality I too have experienced. Multiple times I’ve tried to visit during posted operating hours but I can never seem to catch the store open. I’ll keep trying though maybe they need some extra help like a part time employee. We need local musical instrument stores or all there’s gonna be is guitar center.
Stopped by to get a guitar and they are closed. Wish I would have know this, I wouldn’t have drove across town to come here.
I was sent here while on the hunt for a violin and was very excited to see everything from the window. It says its supposed to open at 11 but its 1120, windy, cold, and there is no sign of them opening. Unfortunately due to time constraints I will need to take my business to Guitar Center.
Was a pain trying to find parking and got there at 5:25pm on a Friday which means they should have been open till 6pm. me and my buddy just wanted strings guess I’ll skip this place next time I just wanted to help a small business out oh well.
17. Monkton Guitars
Address: 1505 W 1st Ave A, Broomfield, CO 80020 , Comé , Colorado , United States
Best shop on the Front Range! Incredible selection of vintage gear.
David went above and beyond to help me with a UPS damage claim that he pursued (successfully!) for more that 7 months. Monkton Guitars is great to do businesses with. Honesty and Integrity!
What an awesome guitar shop! I’d been following Monkton Guitars since the days when it was just a website, so when I learned that it was now a physical shop, I was super excited to see the stock in person. Monkton’s website had always had a great selection of used and vintage player guitars at player prices, which would get me drooling, but I need to play a guitar before I decide if it’s coming home with me.
Anyway, from the unassuming exterior in Bloomfield, I would have never expected what an amazing selection of instruments they have. The owner took us on a tour of the shop, and I was like a kid in a candy shop. I especially dug the vintage PRS that they had in stock, but they also had a bunch of vintage and used Fenders, Gretsch, and Gibsons. The prices were all reasonable. They also had a nice selection of affordable PRS SE, Epiphones, etc. Oh, and pretty solid collection of used and vintage basses. And don’t even get me started on the amps – vintage and boutique amps spilling out of everywhere. Basically, a great selection. Lots of cool stuff.
My one disappointment was that, while they have an acoustic room, they did not have a great selection of vintage acoustics. They did have a nice selection of a variety of new/used acoustics, but nothing that really got my vintage itch going. However, in light of the shop’s clear focus on electric instruments, and the fact that most normal people would love the selection in the acoustic room (I’ve got a problem; just ask my wife), I think this really isn’t a huge negative. Also, there are a bunch of great shops in the area that have vintage acoustics, but, until now, we really didn’t have an amazing vintage electric shop. So, yeah, while I was a bit disappointed, this really isn’t a song against them.
To sum up – this is an amazing guitar shop; I could easily have spent hours there, drooling over their amazing stock, and talking guitars with the owner, who was super nice and generous with his time (and not pushy or condescending like you sometimes encounter at shops). The dude clearly knows and loves guitars, and made some great recommendations on guitars I should try, based on what I’d told him I’d liked. I can’t wait to go back and spend some more time there – if you go, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to peruse the stock! I made the mistake of not allotting enough time on my first visit; that is a mistake I will not be making again.
Best shop around!
great place to try and buy, they know their stuff and are super nice and willing to help you find what you’re looking for. they have great recommendations and will let you play whatever for however long. very cheap for repairs and guitar work, much cheaper than other places. got my frets leveled/crowned and it sounds fantastic, however they did kind of gauge/scratch the neck on several frets. sucks, but not a huge deal as it’s not a high end guitar and the price was right ($60). again, sounds great but i would be weary of bringing a higher end model in as they weren’t very careful about taping off the neck to avoid cosmetic damage.
do not take your guitars here for repair! simple jobs will end up being 2 hours in labor charges. they will take your working guitar and send you home with a non-working guitar. they will mix up the wiring on the pots. they will give you pots too large so your knobs have a huge gap underneath. unbelievably unprofessional and incapable.
EDIT: The business response is not a fair respresentation. First guitar, volume pots wired backwards. Second guitar, repair only lasted the car ride home. Second fix only lasted the next car ride home. Third fix, incorrect tone mapping and too large of pots. Every single trip a problem. Why would I go back?

Tim is extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this store for any drum or guitar needs. It is any guitarist or drummers paradise. If they don’t have it, they can get it in a timely manner. I was able to order some custom ludwig drums to complete my classic maple set through Tim with no issues which I picked up earlier today. Now… back to jamming!
The folks at Drum City treat you like family.. True professionals!!! You will find the best of the best in musical equipment here. This is the only place to do business, one stop shop 10 out of 10…
Been going to drumcity since I was a teenager. Tim and Jay are awesome people. I highly recommend them! Always treated me fairly
I’ve been going there for over 35-40 years always good
Do not expect them to be courteous or helpful over the phone
Nice music equipment… But very expensive
Inquired over the phone (45 min drive) on needing 2x Iron Cobra Wooden Beaters. “Got them for you” was his response. Fight traffic to get there, buy product and trustingly got back in car. Upon inspection in parking lot, one is labeled CB90W (correct), the other CB90F (wrong). Stems are different and neither comes with weights. Looking closer the wood is shaped differently, different sizes and completely different types of wood. Just paid for two “new” Wooden Beaters that weigh differently and have different bounce properties. This place will lie just to make a dollar. Never going back.
Bought a Schecter Tempest custom which was “supposed” to come with American made Seymour Duncan pickups. After I purchased the guitar they emailed me saying there was an “issue” with my pickups, and that they needed to be replaced. Yeah; they replaced them alright…with Duncan Disigned pickups…..scumbags.
Have and never will do business with again! BUYER BEWARE!!!!
I came in a few times for a cocktail drum purchase and didn’t find prices that fit my budget (which is fine, it was nice equipment and they’re a used store!). I came back to try and trade things in for accessories instead (bass pedal/Hi-Hat stand) but the trade in value was changed when I got there if I didn’t buy multiple items. Again fair enough, it’s a used shop and they need to make money.
I came yesterday to grab a floor Tom ring and Tim was pretty short with me a bit immature saying “Hey, we finally sold you something!” tried to upsell me on a bass drum head for my new kick and when I was said goodbye, he ignored me while walking away.
I truly do not like to write these messages or send negativity to a used music shop as I had been apart of one for a very long time but if you can’t find me what I’m looking for at a price that is in my range: do not make it my problem and make me feel unwanted. I sent an email addressed to Tim specifically to remedy the situation and I haven’t heard anything back. So I’m writing it here to not treat others this way.
Everyone needs to make money but jeez, don’t run your customers out when they finally find something that works for them with you.

Over the years I’ve purchased many percussion items…sticks, heads, etc….I’ve always relied on the expertise of the owner to steer me to exactly what I need.
Friendly and answered questions about buying vs rental, and information on sizing.
They always either have what we need or will order it for you. The customer service is great.
Fair and resonable top notch repairs cleaning etc
Nice enough place, but geared primarily for band and orchestra and general percussion; don’t go shopping for guitars there but you can get your ukulele fix there.
Fixed my nieces trumpet right up. Friendly staff. Wide variety of instruments.
Let me be clear, I love this place, it’s spectacular when it comes to orchestral deals, but in terms of guitar it’s god awful. I bought fresh strings and all the bass strings were coming apart and every treble strings snapped as I tuned.
We made an appointment to get our bari sax looked at and to get it repaired and drove 3.5 hours to the store when we got there we were told oh no we have to put it in a bag and let it set in our store 5 days then we can look at it and decide if we can fix it or not. that was never told to us on the phone before we made the drive. the person was a total jerk and could careless about or sax I would never recomend using boomer music for any work they just dont understand the meaning of customer service
Go anywhere else but here!! They quote times for repairs that are so far off. My daughter has waited for her instrument for a month (when it was estimated to take 2-3 weeks) and they just told me another 2 weeks.
They told me I didn’t need instrument insurance for normal wear and tear, and then stung me with the bill that was equivalent to insurance anyway.
This is not the only music place in town….go find another place!

Been very happy everytime i go there. I honestly wasnt sure i was going to get a guitar today but the right one found its way to me, thanks again Richard!
Great! Helpful cheerful staff! Pleasant shopping experience!
Would definitely recommend going here for any repairs. Very knowledgeable staff.
Cool
Nice local b place. I my Marshall head repaired. Here. They did a great job. I will go back if I have any other issues. It’s worth looking over the used great. They also offer new as well.
Great customer service. Very friendly and helpful
Guitar tech sucks
I had a great shopping experience in this store about 23 years ago. That was the last one. It seems as if people just don’t like working there, but it’s what they’re comfortable doing.
To be honest, most music stores have that vibe. I loved working in them when I was younger, but also knew when it was time to move on
They have a terrible selection of drums, Their gear is as out dated as their staff who perseve themselfs as “rock stars”. They do not honor their own return policy, and try and talk down to you for finding better gear elsewhere. It’s pretty sad that they are forcing any serious musician to have to shop at guitar center. I will never go to this store let alone purchase from them again.
