Went looking for guitar strings and found a cool shop. These guys are nice and knowledgeable and prices are low. Will make it a regular stop!
Bought my first guitar here. I love it.
Great customer service!
Knowledgable, sincere staff who are working diligently to provide an alternative to the big box stores. They have a ways to go, but headed in the next direction.
They don’t sell reeds…
I remember, not too long ago Gigs Music Company was owned and operated by Rick and Debbie Schroeder. They had an impressive enventory. Then it changed hands you another great musician who worked for the Schroeders from the beginning and held it’s integrity. It seems those days are over. I’ve been there a few times lately and it saddens me to say it’s really gone down hill. To say the service is poor would be a understatement. The inventory lacks quantity and quality both. It’s definitely not getting a favorable critique from me. Three stars is more than generous in my view.
Talented man with music skills. Awful business techniques.
I dropped off my amp to get the boost and reverb fixed in August 2019. Over a year later and I still don’t have my amp. I’ve stopped by several times and tried to help find the parts needed. They won’t answer or return my calls so stopping by is the only way to check in. It’s been perpetually “a couple weeks” away from being done for a year. Unbelievably bad service. Never ever rely on them for amp repair.
Sell used stuff.
3. Dunkley Music
Address: 3410 N Eagle Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Council , Idaho , United States
Dunkley Music was great at helping us find an affordable option for my son to learn cello and participate in his strings class at school. They were super helpful and knowledgeable. They knew my son’s teacher and put him at ease for his class. I love that the rental progress affordable for us and helps build into the next size instrument.
Dunkley’s has tuned a piano for me twice now. Professional, on time, and willing to even explain the process to me because I was curious. Thanks, Jared!
Natalie & Tanya excellent customer service! High quality choice of inventory. An absolute pleasure shopping at Dunkley’s! Thank you!
I enjoy DM very much. It’s so much fun to look around to see all the instruments they have in-store. They had the gift I was looking for (and then some). Someday, I’ll take those violin lessons. For now, I’m saving up to get myself that keyboard bench.
It’s alright. If you’re looking for Orchestra stuff I would recommend Telford and Sons.
Back when Dunkley’s was in-town in Boise, I was an avid customer…they always have been professional and friendly all-in-one! They still are.
All of my musical equipment, specifically my violin and flute for school orchestra/band, came from here. And I am impressed with it nowadays!
GOOO Dunkley Music!!!
The worst customer service wish I could give a 0.
Staff have very poor customer service skills, their attitude was down right rude. My issue was not resolved- despite being a customer for 8 years. It seems loyalty no longer matters to Mark Dunkley.
Best wishes to you.
My wife, son, and I went to Dunkleys to do a little piano shopping as we had sold her piano a few years back and have now moved into a new home and have space again. Spent 10 minutes walking around looking at the various options without so much as a hello from anyone working there. Noone seemed overly busy but neither did they seem interested in helping us. Love supporting local but if you do not want my business you will not get it.
4. Rick’s Music
Address: 915 W Flamingo Ave, Nampa, ID 83651 , Council , Idaho , United States
This guy is a life saver/ miracle worker! Brought him 4 old guitars and he made them all amazing. Seriously. Why go anywhere else? Service, knowledge, and just amazing skills don’t exist like him anymore. A true gem in the world of guitars.
Excellent bargains and good selection of guitars and amps
Helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.
Rick is a great guy, and there’s always a gem or two hanging on the wall. Good prices, too!
I had Rick set up my guitar. He did a Fantastic job. Fast and reliable. One day service. I would Recommend him all who needs guitar service. AAA++++
Last Saturday I took my most prized possession to Rick, I paid to have a set up and new strings put on my Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute pro. When I got it home I pulled it out and wanted to play it. I noticed right off the bat that Rick took a Utility knife or some other tool and shaved off the binding all around the fret board The fret board has gouges all the way around and the frets stick out and gouge your fret hand when you try to play it. My guitar is completely ruined! I haven’t slept in several days I’m so pissed. I in no way implied, asked for or mentioned that he do this to my guitar. I can’t even open the case it makes me so sick! I would not recommend Rick to anyone again. Rudy Rodriguez Nampa Idaho
I highly recommend this place for professional instrument repair and technical assistance and advice
The only issue I had was their sign was not easy to find. The business should have an extra sign right before you turn into their driveway to give ample time to prepare to turn in.
All time favorite musical instrument store.
Helpful staff! They got my son’s trumpet soldered and shined!
I need a trumpet mute and I don’t know if Blue Rider has one! Can someone help?
7. Seidel Music & Repair
Address: 344 Thain Rd, Lewiston, ID 83501 , Council , Idaho , United States
Bought my first guitar here several months ago and they were more than helpful in trying to help me decide what would be the best fit for me. I returned last week to buy a case for the guitar and once again received WONDERFUL service. If ever I am in this area again I will use the shop for ALL of my needs. Can’t say enough about the service, love this place
Friendly serivce
Nice guy, good work! I had them fix a clarinet.
Super cool guys and super cool guitar instructor they are all very nice and have dogs that walk around in there sometimes and I freaking love it. Some items are a little expensive compared to online but their guitar selection is always matched or better than what you’ll find anywhere else
It was difficult to get someone on the phone, other than that no problems.
They ran a hard credit check on my credit report without my knowledge or consent. I’m very mad at the ding it caused my credit score. Plus it’s just cheaper to buy off amazon. These mom and pop shops are closing themselves down by their own actions. Bye-bye!
One gentleman who works there is nice but the other is quite rude and makes you feel like unless you buy from them, your stuff is garbage.
8. Burt’s Music & Sound
Address: 1123 Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814 , Council , Idaho , United States
Burts is great. I trust them for instrument repair. The prices are very reasonable. The work is high quality and they get you your insteumwnt back quicker than expected. (Of course at the beginning g of the school year instrument repairs are crazy for everyone so plan ahead)
I want to give Gary Ross a big thanks for working his magic on my old worn out Oscar Schmidt. I had no idea it could look so nice and sound so great!
Great service and friendly staff. Good rental PA’s and reasonably priced.
bought nice drum for great price. thanks 🙂
Great knowledgeable staff!
Limited product nice guys running it though
Bad experience
The person working there that day didn’t really seem to want to make a sale…. The sign saying not to touch the instruments without permission was a bit off-putting.
Then, after inquiring about trying one, he selected an instrument, took it down, re-tuned it, and hung it back up. There was no sense of being encouraged to actually try it out or anything.
It was very uncomfortable and we felt quite unwelcome.
They fix guitars but your screwd if you got a Floyd rose. Other than that good store good people.
9. Old Boise Music Studios
Address: 511 W Main St, Boise, ID 83702 , Council , Idaho , United States
Always impressed with the customer service at this store! We rushed in this afternoon to get some repairs done so our kids could continue to practice while school is closed. Even though it must have been a hectic day for them (they just found out they’d have to close, too), they were able to take care of us on the spot and get our kids’ instruments fixed. We really appreciated it!
Absolutely love this place!! Always helpful and will fill yer head full of knowledge!
Friendly people, lots of options.
Very helpful in finding items for your instruments. The instruction is top drawer.
4 stars because they do have a great selection, prices are fair, and the store is very clean and organized. The staff at first seemed helpful but then seemed impatient, as I was asked if I was ready to check out while I was still looking at guitars with an item in my hand. Caught me off guard as I felt rushed after only being in the store a couple minutes and wasn’t near the register. Other than that, they have a great selection of beautiful guitars and quality gear.
I came in a week ago to look around before I bought anything the people were nice and friendly and when I came back today I was ignored and treated like I didn’t exist so instead of buying a electric guitar and bundle you guys get this review and to the 4-5 people working there at the time it’s beyond rude to ignore someone then try to say something as there are leaving I felt discriminated against this was a first.
Edit
What a joke he didn’t say anything don’t try lying and make it seem like a misunderstanding. I wasn’t alone, so instead of lying and blaming me, look at your employees and try to figure out why they didn’t greet me or ask if I needed help.
I can only review the store in terms of the musical lessons. My daughter signed up for lessons and was given a start date of a month out. We showed up for the first lesson but there was no instructor. The front desk called the instructor who was on his way in for the appointment after ours. I was told I had to wait for the instructor to arrive before rescheduling. I accepted that there is a paperwork mix-up and rescheduled for the next week. Appointment attempt number two went fine. The instructor was on time and my daughter appreciated his efforts. However, lesson attempt number 3, resulted in no instructor again. This time I talk to the manager and she was slightly apologetic. Though I had emailed with the instructor previously, she claimed they could not contact me because they did not have a phone number. After a 66% no no-show rating I decided I’d had enough with the place. Your results may differ, and I hope they do. I have no doubt that if I would have missed appointments I still would have been billed for the time. But they had no respect for my time.
Was greeted when entered the store got what we needed stood in line cashier started helping us we had a couple questions we were asking cashier completely dropped helping us in the middle of our conversation he took another customer and ignored us helped other customer started talking to us again pushed us aside and rang up another customer I had to ask if I could pay for my things now he replied “ the other guy was waiting patiently” the cashier was very rude.
11. Discount Music Supply
Address: 5380 E Seltice Way STE C, Post Falls, ID 83854 , Council , Idaho , United States
One of the best guitar stores I have went to I love the discounts you get there
I highly recommend Discount Music Supply. I have been very pleased with the service I’ve received each time I go there. Terry is extremely helpful and very pleasant to talk to. He really knows his stuff and is always available to answer any question I have. Any time I need advice or help in regards to a musical instrument, or even a music teacher referral, he is ready to give it. I really appreciate that. Recently, I needed new strings for my violin. Thinking I would have to leave it at the store for a day or two, I was so happy to hear Terry tell me to come back in an hour and the violin would be ready. Great service! If ever I have a musical need, I know where to go — to Discount Music Supply!
Never had a more helpful, respectful, polite and intelligent person help me decide the best decision I ever made
Good deals decent service.
awesome place to pick up some guitar strings, drum head or whatever you need at a fair price. Plus they price match internet prices..
Good selection and reasonable prices
I am on tour with my band, and I am in dire need of some new sticks. We call the store around 5:30 pm to ask them when they close. They close at 6pm and we tell them we are on our way right then. Get there at 5:45 pm and they are closed. I mean, no one there, they counted out, gone. I know many musicians who tour around the area often and I have told them to NOT go to this store. Go to Burts.
It’s really too bad these geniuses have the most ridiculous hours of operation. Tried to explain to their feeble minds that people that can afford to spend money on musical instruments are WORKING for a living. Nobody is going to take time off of work to go shop at this place. Open at a decent hour and I’ll shop there. In the last 4 1/2 years, I’ve spent approx. $5,000.00 ELSEWHERE as a direct result of their terrible hours. This I must say is regrettable as I would much prefer to keep the money here in Post Falls. Note: I’ve heard these jokers complaining that sales are very poor at that store. No wonder.
I made the drive out here from spokane based on reviews I thought it would be worth it to check it out. I got there at 3:44 and it was closed. I understand it’s in a sort of secret place but if you’re gonna close early you should maybe close around half an hour early rather than nearly an hour and a half early.
12. The Record Exchange
Address: 1105 W Idaho St, Boise, ID 83702 , Council , Idaho , United States
Fabulous selection of classics… Outstanding stock. Staff is wonderful… Super helpful
This is one of my most beloved places in town. I always get outstanding customer service. Everyone has always been so nice about guiding me in the right direction and they foster my curiosity, particularly when I have picked records just out of curiosity. There’s always someone to answer my questions with patience and care. I simply love this store and their staff. Long live the Record Exchange!
Too many stuff not locally made. Didn’t buy anything.
One of only a handful of places open on Easter Sunday
I love the decor/jewelry section of the shop, the items in that area are awesome and very unique. I do agree however that the music seems to be fairly one-sided in the rock/punk area. This may be due to certain artists actually selling vinyls of their albums but hell, Lorde did and she ain’t rock.
Customer service has never been bad but I never really pay that much attention, so I’ll have to check on that next time I come in.
Prices are meh, I’ve seen better but that depends on the artist for example, Bonobo’s vinyl costs $21 dollars (Converted from EU) plus shipping (which may cost more from out of country) compared to 35 dollars at the Record Exchange I feel like the price isn’t too bad. I don’t think they deserve a 1 star rating but I think 5 is pushing it. I can however, say the feel is charming, and doesn’t reek of “hipster” like people say it does. I find it to be your average music shop.
My advice to the shop if they read these ratings (hopefully they do) is to get more recent albums! Yes we get it the Beatles are great, but let’s get a little modern in here!
Tired. Unprofessional and clueless
Awful customer service. The man with longer (grayish) hair spoke with us and was extremely rude. I was so excited to come here and he completely ruined that. Would not recommend unless you want to be talked to like you are 2 years old from this man. Extremely disappointed
It very niche and that’s fun but at the same time its werid
13. Chesbro Music Company
Address: 327 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402 , Council , Idaho , United States
My son has been taking lessons from Freddy and it’s been amazing!
Very knowledgeable, great store.
Friendly service had what I was looking for
Always fun, a good selection for most things and the staff is always friendly.
They had amazing set up, music stock, instrument stock, and friendly people. Great place to go for most music needs. Repair for instruments is around the corner, though.
I would never shop at this store, I made the mistake of signing my son up for their rental program which is nothing more than a high interest, high harassment loan scam. These guys are a complete joke. The complete lack of customer service, along with the harassing phone calls, and creepy home visits are enough for me to contact law enforcement. DO NOT give this company your business!
I went there, asked to borrow a guitar cable, and the old guy there said “what for?” After explaining the obvious, he said he didn’t want me playing anything unless I was going to buy something. He then tried to force me to use an amp that I didn’t want to use. After he walked away, I plugged into the tube amp that I wanted to use. He then came back and told me that I wasn’t allowed to play any of the tube amps that were out for people to try. My question is this: why have the tube amps out on the showroom floor if people aren’t allowed to try them? I’m never coming back.
Not thrilled at all with the service of piano, lessons 110.00 a month for a child only, once a week totally outrageous. Piano gallery was way, cheaper and nicer .
14. MusiCare
Address: 391 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402 , Council , Idaho , United States
I have been taking my saxophones to Musicare for regulation and repair for many years. Their work is top notch. They are also always willing to take a quick look at my instruments and have even made a quick minor modification or two at no charge!
I have been going to MusiCare for over 20 years! Dave and Jim are the absolute best in professional repair, customer service, and just plain friendliness. They really care about you and they let you know it! I count them as not only great professional assets, but also as friends! Love you guys!
Hally Loe – World’s only country music flutist 🙂
The guy that was working there was not very friendly but they got the job done
Just a little expensive but they had what we needed
