Went there today to check out ukuleles…BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! I would have never thought that we would have a local shop in town, when I found out about it yesterday I was so hyped and had to go. I ended up just buying picks but it was a pretty hot deal for 3 for $1. Al who was the one who helped me was so nice and made it a 5 star experience. Recommend going to check it out.
Al Yates will give you a dose of authenticity that will make your day, the second you walk through the door. Bought a traveling steel six-string guitar and hard case for my son that was perfect and he knew exactly what I wanted before I did!
Stopped in while traveling and fell in love with then shop. The vintage and newer amp collection could easily outfit a recording studio. I found some great quality and unique acoustic guitars, mandolins, and an impressive collection of used bass guitars. Knowledgeable and friendly staff/owner. I wish this store was in my hometown.
I have been a drummer for 28 years and recently took up guitar lessons for my tenth time or so. I have never had an easier instructor to work with than Greg.
I also had my autistic nephew sign up and it has been an amazing turn in his life. Greg taught him a small song his first day, this drive him to love going and socialize. Now my nephew says Greg is the nicest guy he knows and can’t wait for lessons.
Greg is real, he is empathic and extremely polite . He listens to what you want to play and helps push you while keeping at a pace you can achieve. Now I’m taking vocal and guitar lessons and I’ve never had better instruction.
Also his prices are the best I’ve ever seen for professional lessons.

Address: 938 W 200 S, Blackfoot, ID 83221 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
Helpful and informative. Braydon is a great guitar teacher.
My husband and I stopped by Welch Music on a whim, really just a fact finding mission on pianos. Hands down, best customer service from any business we have been inside in the last year! We couldn’t help but buy a piano from here. The young man that helped us listened to our story, showed us a variety of pianos that could fit our needs, he answered our many questions, and he kindly delivered the item to our house! I would highly recommend Welch Music! They set the bar for how all customers should be treated.
Amazing fast quality service. Super friendly. Took my daughters flute to be serviced, turn over time was so quick. And they called and let me know what needed done before they did it. With a price quote; that quite honestly was very reasonable, in my opinion! Thank you soooo sooo much !!!! Will be back for sure!
I’ve bought for or five instruments here, and one bass amp. In recent years the service has become slightly less friendly to those wanting to demo a guitar or amp, and the selection is a bit thin. Don’t get me wrong, I like Peavey and Schecter, but they’ve definitely trimmed down, especially since moving to the new location.
X. A variety of instruments friendly staff
VERY HELPFUL STAFF.
Sales people are pushy and dishonest.
Store sucks, don’t have anything in the drum section, sad
Put an order in 2 different times for a replacement part for my son’s bells set in January and again in February. After June we still hadn’t received the part. My son’s grade in band was affected because his bells couldn’t attach to it’s stand for concerts Won’t ever return. Actually kinda made him hate band.
6. Dunkley Music
Address: 1160 Blue Lakes Blvd N, Twin Falls, ID 83301 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
Amazing music store! I told Tony I wanted a beginner’s electric guitar and he recommended the Fender Telecaster which I like a lot and fit my budget. I also asked for many accessories including a mini amp so I can plug my headphones into my guitar and he recommended me the best stuff! He also threw in a 10% discount on many items as part of the package deal which he didn’t have to do! I checked and the prices beat Amazon for the most part, I’m very satisfied and would highly recommend this place.
A Musicians new and old Music store
Needed a shipping box for a guitar, and dunkley music was the only store in town that could help me out. For that they get five Stars
7. Blue Rider Music & Instrument Repair
Address: 595 W Ustick Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
I absolutely love this place! The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful and they always have what I need. I definetly recommend going here for any of your music needs. Thanks Blue Rider!
This company really cares about their instruments and their customer service. They take great care of both.
Awesome place! Super friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Helpful staff! They got my son’s trumpet soldered and shined!
I need a trumpet mute and I don’t know if Blue Rider has one! Can someone help?
8. Eagle Guitar
Address: 890 E Franklin Rd #201, Meridian, ID 83642 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
Genuine, real deal human treating humans with Grace. Thanks
Amazing shop owned by a very knowledgeable and honest guy. I’m a beginner and brought my used guitar in to have JR take a look at it. JR immediately diagnosed some problems and fixed it up for me while telling a story about playing with the Allman brothers in Switzerland. You’d be hard pressed to find a better place to take your guitar.
Eagle guitars claims to produce high end guitars made from wild eagles local to the treasure valley. I find these claims to be false based on the performance of my most recent purchase from this establishment. After testing I can conclude that the carcasses used to press the body of this guitar were not fresh. These eagles were at least one week old and not properly cured. These were also NOT WILD EAGLES. At least some of the species used were farmed. The false advertising of this company has directly effected the breeding cycles of my eagles due to the innacurate resonance patterns the guitar is emitting. I also believe crows milk is being used in the clear coat and this is a wonderful idea.
The owner is a total jerk! Who do you think you are? My son works 2 jobs and sometimes 3 with side jobs. He is about to be a new dad and is building a guitar. You told him you know kids his age don’t like to work so he should get a job so he could buy-something???? He has several guitars and I joined him to check out your shop. I have 25 hard earned guitars and would never spend a penny at your lame store, you don’t deserve our money 0 stars if possible. Learn some customer service your attitude is unbelievable
On 4/20/21 at 11:30, I visited this shop. I had previously visited five times in the past year. I had an old Gene Autry cowboy guitar repaired there and I purchased an acoustic Guild at this shop. I have also purchased strings at this shop. I like to support local businesses. My prior visits were pleasant enough.
This visit was the exact opposite. I arrived to see what inventory they had. I was looking for a second electric guitar with a thicker neck profile and humbuckers. I have arthritis and I need a thicker neck. I didn’t recognize the individual behind the counter. A customer was strumming on a guitar in the middle of the floor. The individual behind the counter asked me what I was looking for. He was handling something and never looked up or made eye contact or attempted to greet me. His demeanor was terrible. I told him I was looking for a guitar with a thicker neck and humbuckers. I told him I was interested in an Epiphone Wilshire type guitar. I was about to explain that it has a thicker neck profile and ask if he had any similar style of guitar. Before I could complete my sentence, he cut me off and stated that he doesn’t like Epiphone. I explained that I had purchased a Guild from the shop. I was thinking he would be more interested in helping me but his attitude remained less than friendly! I walk around and looked at some of the guitars. They actually and an Epiphone on display. He never asked me another question or made any suggestions or recommendations.
You can be a great guitarist. You can be a great luthier. That doesn’t mean you have any customer service skills. I had cash and was ready to buy but I walked out. It’s regrettable that this individual is behind the counter. I wonder how many other potential customers he has turned off?
I guess I’ll drive further to GC or order online.
9. Monkeyman Music
Address: 135 N 3rd E St, Mountain Home, ID 83647 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
Dropped two guitars off to get some maintenance taken care of. Can’t be happier with the service! Both guitars play like new, the turn around was great, and the price was even better. I also love the fact they are open to 8pm!!!
Calling this establishment “mediocre” would be too much of a compliment. My brother went in to ask if the man had any guitar parts and was treated like an inconvenience. The man had his back to him the whole time, was very dry and rude and had awful customer service overall, once my brother asked about guitar lessons though is when the man perked up and became chatty. Only when money was in the conversation was he interested. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
10. Rick’s Music
Address: 915 W Flamingo Ave, Nampa, ID 83651 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
Great service small shop extremely friendly would definitely recommend to any and all guitar players
Best music store around.
Really goes above and beyond to make sure everything works as it should and is reliable for a fair price
I had Rick set up my guitar. He did a Fantastic job. Fast and reliable. One day service. I would Recommend him all who needs guitar service. AAA++++
Rick is a great guy, and there’s always a gem or two hanging on the wall. Good prices, too!
Last Saturday I took my most prized possession to Rick, I paid to have a set up and new strings put on my Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute pro. When I got it home I pulled it out and wanted to play it. I noticed right off the bat that Rick took a Utility knife or some other tool and shaved off the binding all around the fret board The fret board has gouges all the way around and the frets stick out and gouge your fret hand when you try to play it. My guitar is completely ruined! I haven’t slept in several days I’m so pissed. I in no way implied, asked for or mentioned that he do this to my guitar. I can’t even open the case it makes me so sick! I would not recommend Rick to anyone again. Rudy Rodriguez Nampa Idaho
11. Welch Music Center
Address: 12516 Fairview Ave, Boise, ID 83713 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
Great music store. Knowledge staff. Great instrument repairs and cleaning.
We go all the time. It is our favorite music store.
Great customer service.. amazing people… fast and efficient… I went in there and I was out with in 10 minutes with a brand new trumpet for my son.. love it… will be returning soon
Knowledge and friendly people with out the hovering around constantly asking if you need anything.
Not as helpful as I’d hoped. Purchased a guitar somewhere else.
Mediocre selection. Disinterested staff. No masks.
RENTER BEWARE! Insurance on rented instruments does not cover accidental damage. You are better off going to Dunkley and renting – their insurance DOES cover accidental damage. We found out the hard way and were first told that the insurance would cover the damage, then told it would not, and we were treated very rudely by the old guy who works there – I don’t think he can have a conversation without interrupting.
I went in with questions and the intention to purchase books. While waiting for the next available sales person I was going to check out the pianos. One of them asked me if I was going to buy a piano and I said no, and then they kicked me out. I’ll never come back.
Do not youse there piano moving service. They chipped a good chunk of my piano, and didn’t take any responsibility for the incident! Go to Dorsey music, or any other store! JUST DONT LET WELCH MUSIC MOVE YOUR PIANO!
12. Dunkley Music
Address: 3410 N Eagle Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
Been in there several times and been very happy with the customer service, selection and prices. Ask for Esteban, he kills it; amazingly knowledgeable and super friendly.
I was looking to purchase a professional trumpet. I wasn’t too sure exactly which one I wanted, so an employee at dunkley put me in a practice room and brought 15 trumpets for me to try. They were incredibly accommodating and helpful. When you are making an important and expensive decision like this, it’s nice to be able to focus on the instruments and not the customer service.
Olivia is incredibly talented, so helpful and knowledgeable. What a gem you have working in your store!
It’s alright. If you’re looking for Orchestra stuff I would recommend Telford and Sons.
I have bought a Kawai CN25 from Marion in a total of sale price of 600 plus 13 month renting period. Ends up with about 1645 U.S dollar. I am really happy with what I’ve purchased. And Marion is very nice on settling the deals with me.
I enjoy DM very much. It’s so much fun to look around to see all the instruments they have in-store. They had the gift I was looking for (and then some). Someday, I’ll take those violin lessons. For now, I’m saving up to get myself that keyboard bench.
I hesitate to share this review because I’m sure they have quality product and talented professionals at Dunkley. However, both times I have visited the Boise location the customer service was non existent. I won’t speculate too much why (although I have my suspicions) but being completely ignored (not even made eye contact) by multiple employees for the entire duration of the visit is unacceptable service. I’ve heard from other people who’ve had the same experience. I’ll continue going to Dorsey music in Nampa for this reason.
This would be a wonderful music store if it wasn’t for the poor customer service for the folk who come in who are judged based on appearance and/or their apparent wealth or lack thereof. I have been playing piano and trombone for more than half my life now and my daughter is about to enter 6th grade. She has tried the trombone but is more interested in playing tuba. The staff told her she was too little, that the other instrument she was interested in — bassoon — was “really rare,” [too] expensive, and that starting on a double reed instrument was a really bad idea…oh, and did I mention that she was just way too short to play the instruments she wanted? This is not their place to decide and I have played alongside MANY petite, thin, and amazing female tuba players. Staff should not provide input on what instruments myself or anyone else “should” play, nor place any limits on their customer. Their job is to sell instruments and they can do so without being condescending or insulting.
The Nampa location is great. Helpful, knowledgeable, experienced. I brought in a violin i bought, and wanted it checked out. So it was sent to their luthier, a fella called “Rand”. This dude needs social interaction lessons. What a rude, short tempered jackal. If you like being talked to in a demeaning and belittling way, have your string instrument looked at by “Rand”. If you like normal, socially accepted treatment, avoid Dunkley or, more precisely, Rand.
13. Welch Music Inc
Address: 1328 Overland Ave, Burley, ID 83318 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
Took my son’s violin in to get a new string put on. I was surprised at how quick they were able to do it & it didn’t cost much. Friendly staff, good service. Will come back for sure.
Great local resource for music supplies.
Lived them for years. A little overpriced but great people
Not so good customer service, ignored until the long chatty catching up was finished with previous customer. Vague pointing to other side of store for needed items, which wasn’t in stock anyway. Ended up getting everything from Utah.
Great service communication needs work
Muy buenos los precios
Welch Music has messed up the violin contract that I had, charged me twice, tried to charge me after I paid off the violin and messed up the tuning. The only time I will go to Welch is when I need a string and Acadia doesn’t have it. They usually don’t know what they are talking about, though they act like they do, and most of the employees can’t tune correctly to save their life because they depend on an electric tuner and have no experience of their own tuning string instruments. My 2 children play a string instrument, violin and cello, but when I bought a brand new violin and had the store tune it, the music teacher said that it was WAY out of tune and not to have the store tune it. The kids music teacher will only go to Acadia Music in Rupert or Dunkley Music in Twin Falls. I have had a PHENOMENALLY POSITIVE experience at Dunkley Music and will always take my business to them. At Acadia Music, the owner is the employee and she tuned my son’s cello with no problems.
14. Gig’s Music
Address: 611 N Orchard St, Boise, ID 83706 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
The staff is amazing and very knowledgable about there instruments, they repair your equipment and have new and used stuff for sale.
Friendly people who are local musicians
Went looking for guitar strings and found a cool shop. These guys are nice and knowledgeable and prices are low. Will make it a regular stop!
Good shop. Needs more stuff.
I remember, not too long ago Gigs Music Company was owned and operated by Rick and Debbie Schroeder. They had an impressive enventory. Then it changed hands you another great musician who worked for the Schroeders from the beginning and held it’s integrity. It seems those days are over. I’ve been there a few times lately and it saddens me to say it’s really gone down hill. To say the service is poor would be a understatement. The inventory lacks quantity and quality both. It’s definitely not getting a favorable critique from me. Three stars is more than generous in my view.
They don’t sell reeds…
Ordered a Christmas gift for my husband from this place last year, and I’m still waiting. I called them 3 times about it and was told it was on order and they would call me. Never received a call. Very unprofessional. I believe in shopping local, but not at this Boise business.
Went by to sell a couple guitars and amps on a Saturday. Hours on the door say they open at 11, but it was 1115 and noone was there. Another customer in the parking lot told me that “sometimes this just happens” and said he texted the owner to see when they were coming. At 1130 we both left. Follow the hours you show.
I dropped off my amp to get the boost and reverb fixed in August 2019. Over a year later and I still don’t have my amp. I’ve stopped by several times and tried to help find the parts needed. They won’t answer or return my calls so stopping by is the only way to check in. It’s been perpetually “a couple weeks” away from being done for a year. Unbelievably bad service. Never ever rely on them for amp repair.
15. Idahome Music and Performing Arts
Address: 2165 Airbase Rd, Mountain Home, ID 83647 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
Wakefield Music Academy has wonderful program music for any age. Their staff is friendly, and their price is affordable.
I recommend this place. You will find professional music lessons there.
Learning guitar after 50 is hard but Wakefield’s teacher Mr. Kirkland is experienced, challenging, and fun! Jam night is a relaxed setting to practice and learn for free!! If you are not sure about starting a new adventure in music go to a jam night and experience the teaching style relaxed and challenging.
Idahome has been such a good fit for. Y daughter! Tori the owner is professional and educated in what she is doing to include a huge heart for those she is working with. Very grateful to have this program!
I searched and searched for a Taylor 812e 12 fret but the cutaway is all I could find until I ran across Nick’s Reverb store. I eagerly purchased it and Nick had it in UPS’s possession the same day. Three days later I am playing this sweet Rosewood beauty. I absolutely love my 2020 Taylor 812e 12 fret guitar. I highly recommend “Tune Up Guitars” and Nick, the owner.
You can’t go wrong with these guys.
AAAAAA+
Very good business. Was wanting a high end acoustic guitar and Nick convinced me on this Taylor 414ce LTD Sinker Redwood. Descriptions were very accurate, pictures were great. Guitar came in on time. Everything was perfect.
5 stars – I got a wonderful Larrivee guitar from Nick at Tune Up. He answered my questions very promptly and shipped the instrument the same day. The Larrivee guitars are packed with so many nice features that you don’t see every day on some more well-known brands.
18. Dunkley Music
Address: 513 W Karcher Rd, Nampa, ID 83651 , Custer County , Idaho , United States
Walt was absolutely amazing!! I am so grateful for his assistance. He worked great with my son and was very educational to all of us!! Highly recommend
Took my daughter in to get setup for her first ever violin. Shelby was awesome. Helped us with everything. Very friendly. And very fair! Thank you!
I am very impressed with the extremely friendly and helpful customer service that the Nampa store manager, Shelby, gives to me and other customers. Whenever I need to find music festival pieces for my piano students, she gets them for me as soon as possible. If the pieces are not in the Nampa store, she has someone from the Meridian store bring them over saving me gas and time. Most recently, Shelby spent time calling all over Idaho to other Dunkley Music stores and the Chesbro warehouse to find a piano duet piece I needed. That makes me a very happy customer!
Would not recommend. Very unwelcome vibes. Zero chill music store vibes lady just wanted us to leave the second we got ther. The lady I dealt with was rude and tried to gouge me for my money.
Excellent selection of guitars and amps and a superb guitar repair service. Best local music store in Boise!
Such a congenial man that helped us…will definitely return.
Nice music store with some popular brand stuff as well as lesser known (but just as good) stuff.
Daryl sold the business to new owners and they are not very knowledgeable about guitar repairs or timely about getting back to you. I had to take my guitar repairs to somewhere else to get it done right. But being a local shop, they are still better than a chain store in many ways.
Used stuff !! Cheap…
They bought my test equipment for repairs and haven’t paid! They are liars. No education in electronics at all!
This business discriminates against people with medical conditions.
Found the place to be a mix of junk and overpriced items. Might be the only local music shop in town, but it won’t be getting my money, given the owner’s criminal history, not a great place for kids.
