Great guys over there I’m a beginner and went in there looking for an affordable acoustic guitar they really helped me out not knowing to much abt guitars and helped me pick a good one still on the lower end price wise I will definitely be back and they are really nice and funny guys
Friendly owner/staff. Great selection of instruments and accessories.
The owner takes great pride in the shop. It’s long been regarded in the community to produce great musicians. My son absolutely loves taking piano lessons there. I highly recommend it!!
Their music selection was a bit small but they had everything I needed at a very reasonable cost.
The line was crazy long and they were extremely under staffed.
Did not have a kazoo
2. The Music Store
Address: 4815 Granite Dr, Rocklin, CA 95677 , Deer Park , California , United States
Has amazing lessons from really nice and good teachers. Also sells a variety of instruments
Got some new strings on this baby and it’s sounds even better than in the store
My visit here today was great and the gentleman that I spoke with earlier (Kevin) even put the violin that I was coming to purchase for my daughter out so I could easily come in and pay then be on my way. The price was alittle more than I really was budgeting but once she opened and saw the violin I got for her she almost cried and can’t wait to show it off Sat when she has her performance.
Thank you so much Kevin for your help and making my first visit here perfect Very Much Appreciated!!
Friendly staff and very helpful.
I rented a used violin for my son from the shop. They said the price was $199. The rental was $35 per month. after two months if you want to own the violin then they said they would deduct the rental amount from the original price. But when we want to buy the used violin they said the price is $299 which is hell more than a new violin. So would recommend not to rent or buy anything from this store.
They were super friendly and helped us one on one. They let us test any instrument and gave us info and history on each one. We own a few ukes and this was the best time selection in the area. We highly recommend the strum shop!
Loving learning to play the ukelele at the monthly
sing a-long at the Strum Shop. Great people,
great entertainment. Everything you need in one
place!
I like it here. Very friendly atmosphere. All the staff is knowledgeable and fun.
Cool shop for all your strumming needs!
Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. Street parking is iffy. Rear parking and entrance is unmarked.
It have discount mercendise too .
They lost my instrument and won’t return my calls. I brought an instrument in for repairs, they gave to their vendor, I talked with the vendor and he said it would be done in two weeks. After a month with no word I started calling, and they have ignored all messages I’ve left.
I originally came in to get a new nut cut for my Gibson SG. The repair took longer and cost more than originally advertised, and the repair man left several issues that I had to fix myself (buzzing on A and low E, new tuning problems due to roughness of nut slots, high action, used strings other than the ones I’d left for him and specifically asked for him to use). Fortunately, however, when I brought this up with the shop, out of the $50 that I was charged, I was refunded $40 labor cost. (Still on the hook for $10 though).
EDIT: The manager for the Strum Shop started hassling me over text message after I posted this review. LOL.
I brought a guitar to adjust the action. Dan did not place the parts I asked for saying he did not have it on stock. Inaccurate repair job with replacing the guitar nut. Honestly I could adjust my guitar better than this “professional repair master” “Doctor” Dan. Waisted $80. Very unsatisfied. I would not recommend any repairs in this shop/store.
6. The Nicholson Music Co.
Address: 636 E Bidwell St, Folsom, CA 95630 , Deer Park , California , United States
Nicholson’s is aces! Helpful in every way…. but they’re not going to think for you. Music is all about infinite choices. You just have to narrow them down a bit; and the staff at Nicholson’s will be there every time!
Brought my brand new Warmoth build for it’s initial setup on a Wednesday. They told me they would have it ready Saturday. I called on Friday and asked if I would be able to pick it up early because I was really excited to play it for the first time. The guitar tech, Andy I believe his name was, went above and beyond and had it finished Friday for me to pick up. It played beautifully, no buzzing, low action, and sounded great. The pricing was extremely reasonable, especially for the quality and professionalism I received. I would recommend this shop to anyone. In fact, I already have.
The repair guy here, Andy, is a real gem. A genuinely good technician who listens well. Can’t speak highly enough about him.
Excellent, nice and simple.
Large selection of guitars
The staff are very nice and attentive. They make sure that everyone is being help to the point of different staff asking the same person severely times. If you are in the neighborhood or you just need a friendly professional place that will take care of your stringed instrument (violin, guitar, viola, etc.) stop by to say hello.
Very snooty to non music experts
They gave me a pretty old violin when I rented out for my kid and had to pay an advance of 120$ @$30 per month+insurance. It had recurring issues and I had to return it in a month and lost my 3 months advance and deposit. Please make sure to rent only new ones from this place.
The man in the back was extremely rude to me. Totally ruined my great mood. Worst way to make a sale. Ill shop elsewhere.
7. Walmart
Address: 4300 Missouri Flat Rd, Placerville, CA 95667 , Deer Park , California , United States
Oil for my hybrid cheepest in town. Self-checkout so no need to interact with others.
Thanks to Tom in the garden department. He was very helpful and a great addition to the team. He helped us find exactly what we were looking for and loaded into our cart. Great attitude
Staff is always helpful. I always leave with more than I intended.
Good
Not much there slow
They just have such stinky attitudes at this store.
Employees were totally disinterested in helping us. We wanted to buy batteries. They were locked up. We kept asking for help, they kept saying someone was coming. After 10 minutes, no one came. We left.
This one is eh -ok. Decent prices and selection , but heaven forbid you might want something out of a locked case ESPECIALLY in sporting goods, was there tonight , there was ACTUALLY an employee in sporting goods who AFTER telling me he would be “right with me” (so i could buy light from locked case) then proceeded to tell 4 teenagers about his recent fishing trip for 20 minutes , then walked away. I gave up and am on my way to Target
8. Geddes Music Brentwood
Address: 625 1st St, Brentwood, CA 94513 , Deer Park , California , United States
Everyone is so friendly and helpful..
We bought an electric guitar for our granddaughter and they helped her out with trying each one until she was happy with the one she was getting.
Thumbs up to this business and we will be back…
Awesome staff, great prices, wide selection of guitars and other instruments new and used. Go get some strings or a guitar or something. Gotta support your local music store
Nice local music shop, helpfull employees and good product
9. Loud and Clear Music
Address: 8000 Old Redwood Hwy, Cotati, CA 94931 , Deer Park , California , United States
Love this place. Owner is awesome. I was in there with my 4 year old daughter and he gave her a shaker egg and she thought it was the coolest thing ever. She still plays it with dad.
Really good music store, with very friendly staff. Highly recommend!
Great staff
Great little music shop. Lots of electric guitars, sheet music. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Limited selection. Stuck with a salesman I could barely understand.
Always good equipment selection & great customer service…!
So, I’ve been in here twice since I’ve moved from East Bay to Rohnert Park last year. On both separate occasions the staff watches me like I’m going to steal every item in the store somehow. Very, very, very uncomfortable to look up and have every worker in the store staring at you from across the room, yet not one word of helpfulness or a ‘hi’ or anything. I wont be stepping foot in ‘this boy’s club again’.
They’d rather make $50 or so than lose a customer and get a negative feedback. Not sure that’s a winning business strategy in the long run, but best of luck.
Awesome customers service, friendly, gives alternative suggestions.
Great place for top notch gear and the staff is super cool, friendly and knowledgeable.
Quick and easy. Had identified products I needed on their website. When I arrived, was helped immediately, and the employee confirmed that my selections were suitable for my use.
I went to Bananas to pick up a ride cymbal and, potentially, a hi-hat stand for my Roland set. The staff said that I should bring in my hi-hat pedal and took my name and number for the cymbal. I haven’t heard anything from them since. Had fun playing on their display sets, but that wasn’t the reason I was there.
Great store, but there’s no acoustic drum set to test with. I was able to find drum keys for 75 cents each though.
For a little pricey as well but it’s the only store out here that has almost everything you need. The workers are pretty good very knowledgeable and always willing to help with anything that they can.
Put in a order for an item that was supposed to be in stock and was cancelled a few days later after it was discovered that it actually wasn’t. Not even offered an alternative
This store sells loud rock gear but if you try out the gear loudly they keep telling you to turn it down. If you’re like me you prefer to hear it before you buy it. Probably better just to go to Guitar Center.
they were nice but kept pestering me if I wanted to buy the bass guitar that I was trying out, I was only playing for 10 minutes then they keep asking if I wanted to buy it, then by minute 15 they just went and decreased my volume, I dont know bout you guys but I like to hear the instrument that Im trying out to see if I really like it, if you guys cant handle noise, being it is an instrument shop with loud amps, maybe you guys should work at a library. I felt rushed to try it out and when I was on the fence about it, they politely took the bass from me, left feeling a lil bit dissapointed with the whole experience.
update: Lol. came by to respond to the store’s reply to my review. you guys should should take up fiction writing too, as how you’re good at making things up. man, so funny.
I still firmly standby to my original review.
12. Danville Music
Address: 115 Town and Country Dr E, Danville, CA 94526 , Deer Park , California , United States
This an amazing shop with great teachers, knowledgeable staff, and owners that will come talk to you! I bought many guitars, pedals, and accessories from this place and I never ceases to amaze me How great of a experience I have every time I go in. I obviously highly recommend these guys for anything and everything you are curious about musically!
Between the selection of guitars and the knowledge and friendliness of the staff, this is the best guitar shop I’ve ever been to. They really know their stuff and took all the steps to help me get comfortable and search for a replacement for my very heavy Les Paul. Across two days, I spent about 7 hours trying many guitars, I still wasn’t able to commit to an instrument, but that made no difference to them. They were truly happy to be doing what they were doing, and I look forward to going back when I’m in town next. S/O to Nathan and Dave Criss. – Chris from Tucson.
Danville Music is a class act! I found my dream guitar PRS Wood Library Custom 24 10-Top in Grey Black Fade on line at Danville Music. From the first call I made to them they were all about making it so easy to make it mine. Super responsive. Cam is a gem to deal with. He did a professional set up on the guitar and it plays like butter melting in my hands. Gorgeous guitar. Thank you. Dee
I rented an clarinet with an agreement to use the rental credit towards the purchase of instrument . The shop did honor the agreement and rater quoted higher price to cover up the rental credit
13. The Piano Store
Address: 4881 Granite Dr, Rocklin, CA 95677 , Deer Park , California , United States
Sorry I can only give 5 Stars. Should be 10 stars! We drove a hundred miles to visit this store. The owner Ben has a huge inventory to select from. In addition Ben is very knowledgeable, friendly and fun to work with. A great store and fun buying experience! Thank you Ben!
Ben (the owner) at the Piano Store is first rate! We were looking for a digital piano for our daughter who takes lessons. Ben took the time to explain the different options and features. He wasn’t pushy. He really knows pianos! We took a month to consider our options and in the end we returned to the Piano Store. Our whole family is blessed and excited about our new piano. It was a pleasure doing business with him and his family. Thank you!
So blessed for music in my household. My self playing baby grand really stirs the magic around the Christmas Tree and takes edge off of a screaming toddler. I have never been so happy with a purchase as I am with my Plano. Thank you Ben! You and your whole organization have been a pleasure to work with.
I’ve been looking for pianos for awhile and was satisfied with the selection here, but I felt like the person working there was a little pushy and rude which led to me wanting to leave. I’m not sure if I’d be comfortable coming here again.
Reply: My point is that my experience here was very uncomfortable. It was difficult to look for pianos in peace, yet I’d understand why you’d feel the need to be persistent with asking questions in an attempt to help out. My dad isn’t from the US and doesn’t exactly communicate well, so I became anxious when you told him, “People usually don’t just walk in” as he was taking a look around; this made me feel as if we were unwelcome. I tried to elaborate his vague response by telling you that we have indeed been looking for a piano for awhile; this was in no way defensive although I didn’t get the chance to fully explain myself since you quickly cut me off by saying, “Yeah, I know”. I willfully admit that what you said to my dad slightly irritated me, which is why I blatantly answered the question you asked me and continued to browse around the shop (considering the reason we visited was to look around, obviously). I just recently turned 18 (which you know since I answered when you asked) and would consider myself a sociable person, so the reason of me seeming “rude and standoff to the max” is only the outcome of feeling like our visit was bothersome for you. I was antsy the entire time and it was disappointing since I’ve been meaning to visit for awhile. And I understand that maybe you weren’t having the best day, but my review is an honest recap of my PERSONAL experience, and isn’t being said to bash your business. No one is “trampling” you Ben – I’d greatly appreciate it if you considered what I’m stating rather than argue.
No, he doesn’t buy pianos.
Very rude walked into the store ready to spend upwards of $20000 on a piano the employees were very rude and didnt feel like answering questions and they would watch every move u made made me and my cousin very uncomfortable how am I supposed to spend lots of money on a piano when i can’t test it due to them being on the phone all the time them not having a back office where they can take phone calls is very unprofessional i was in there for about 10 minutes until i couldn’t take the constant questions them watching everywhere i go i would not recommend this place for anyone who wants piece and quiet to shop for a piano
14. Clancy’s Music
Address: 7303 Pacific Ave, Stockton, CA 95207 , Deer Park , California , United States
A really nice, local music shop. The employees were really friendly and helpful. A decent selection of instruments at a good price. I look forward to going back!
Love Clancy! So helpful! Knows his stuff. Uses what he stocks. Willing to work with you,, make deals. He is a great musician. (But not very funny)
Very polite gentleman assisted us. Definitely will be going back!
A fairly basic music shop. I buy reeds and little accessories for my sax – it does the job. Sometimes they’re out of stock, but that’s to be expected. Guitar-wise, they have enough. Instrument-wise, it’s a pretty basic selection. Good prices, but you get what you pay for. Lots of beginner Yamaha, nothing outstanding. Decent selection of music. The current person fronting the store is helpful and friendly, but doesn’t go out of their way for the customer, in my experience. That is definitely something that sets apart a good shop from a great one, so there’s that. Overall though, it’s a place that will do.
Just went in there to buy guitar strings and they had what we needed so we were happy
I’ll give the store the benefit of the doubt. It’s a new store and the guy who runs it is knowledgeable and nice. The selection isn’t vast but the prices are fair. Has a grand opening coming up soon with reps from Ibanez and others. Hopefully that helps him stock up!
Guitar
I wouldn’t rent anything from MR CS and give them your debit card or credit card number to have on file tell he trains his employees right.
I had two issues with them pulling more money out then should have with no calls made to me Ron took it upon himself to handle without calling me.
This last time he did two withdrawals and claim it was his employees fault but yet he said he did the second transaction himself. He said he reversed it but bank is saying no if it’s not back come Monday my bank will be going after him for both charges because he over charged me.
His customer service isn’t all that great.
They don’t have good stuff. It’s like a place for beginners. Didn’t have what I needed either.
15. Amazing Grace Music
Address: 91 Red Hill Ave, San Anselmo, CA 94960 , Deer Park , California , United States
I’ve had my Paramount Style “B” Tenor Banjo since 1978 (it will turn 100 in 1922). I found out the hard way that it’s my most prized possession. While entertaining at a Novato retirement home one of the residents came forward during a break and being visually impaired knocked my banjo over. Even though it was a carpeted floor, the weight of the banjo was too much and the neck snapped off at the base of the headstock. I felt as though I had been in an automobile accident as the loss of my instrument registered sickeningly.
But if anyone could help, I knew who that was and by the end of that Saturday we rushed my baby to the the ER. Otherwise known as Amazing Grace Music in San Anselmo. John and Judy Pedersen were on hand as usual and they looked on sympathetically as I opened the case, my face still white with shock.
It’s a great comfort to have craftsmen like John in our community. Here’s someone who has worked on instruments their whole life and has the skill to make concert level Irish bagpipes from the ground up let alone fix the action on a guitar or re-fret a mandolin.
John told me that putting the neck back together would be a pretty straightforward glue job, but redoing the mother of pearl ornamentation on the headstock would take some time. He could either send it to the east coast to a friend who specializes in such things or he could do it himself. I chose to keep the banjo close to home and asked John to do the job.
A few months later it was ready and when I opened the case my mouth fell to the ground. The headstock actually looked better than it did before it was broken. The piece of ebony that covers the headstock had been completely replaced. The tiny pieces of mother-of-pearl that I had gathered up at the time of the accident had been carefully placed and you can still read the name of the maker, Wm. Lange. When asked how in the world he was able to redo the headstock with the original mother-of-pear John just shrugged and said, “Oh, I just used a router.” Yes, and Michelangelo just used a paintbrush.
I loved and adored my Paramount before the accident, but now, every time I pick it up I’m filled with gratitude that I still have it. Thanks to Amazing Grace.
Solid. Beyond Highly Recommended. This is a true workshop. Wonderful Luthiers.
Best lil banjo shop around these parts
Great local music store. Got my first guitar from their old store when I was 13. Comfortable layout and helpful service. Ask John to fix your violin or if you’re looking to take up Uke/banjo.
Superb spot for the hard to find string instrument or the impossible to find.
16. Steve Swan Guitars
Address: 1519 Old Bayshore Hwy, Burlingame, CA 94010 , Deer Park , California , United States
I’ve dealt with Steve for years, have never had an experience other than above and beyond… to the negative reviews – I highly doubt your experiences. Shop is appointment only… inconspicuous location. Have seen Steve deal with my private students and parents first hand – I’ve come along for every purchase – 10 double basses in the last 4 years or so, everyone has been happy with both the purchase and shopping experience. Steve will continue to be the only place I send my students. Thank you Steve!!
We bought an upright bass here and couldn’t have been more pleased. The selection is amazing, and Steve was helpful and patient.
The store does still exist but it’s a bit difficult to find.
I put my guitar on consignment with Steve about 2 years ago. He lent it out for long spans of time without my permission and eventually sold it without informing me. Then he said he needed the money for his own bills, so he couldn’t pay me. He’s obviously got problems that should keep anyone from trusting him. I’m taking him to small claims court over it.
17. Davids’ Broken Note
Address: 601 Kentucky Ave, Woodland, CA 95695 , Deer Park , California , United States
David is great, I brought in my guitar for set up. He had it back to me in a week and it’s awesome. When I brought it in it had major fret buzz and was unplayable. I couldn’t believe the difference, I will definitely be a regular customer.
David is a very competent luthier and an authorized Taylor repair center. He fixed two Taylor’s for me and did an outstanding job at a very fair price.
I have had them set up my 914CE Taylor and my 818CE Taylor. Now both Play as good as possible, which is fantastic. The service was impeccable. They’re very friendly and knowledgeable. Really went above and beyond to take care of me, and the prices are extremely reasonable. The setup seems as good as the setup I received from Taylor on my 614CE. And I didn’t have to ship the guitars. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Buen lugar para caminar
Good for repairs but if youre looking for instruments there is a minimal selection.
I dropped a banjo off at the beginning of February. After two calls to them and no calls from them, I came and picked it up. Took them a long time to find it. Can’t recommend these guys.
