Affordable! Good service and fast turnaround- thank you!!
My 4th setup by Mikaleno. You will not find better service and you will not find a better price. He does amazing work and takes whatever you’re playing to its fullest playing potential.
So happy I took my guitars to Mikaleno. He’s the real deal. Beyond his decades of experience, he’s a perfectionist, and puts it all into every instrument that he touches. He got 2 of my guitars from terrible and basically unplayable, to feeling so incredible… it’s wild!! From now on, I’m only taking my guitars to him. Guitar center is for the peasants

We had almost zero musical experience and just wanted to try recording a song we wrote. We were obviously nervous leading up to the record session but our worries proved to be unfounded. Kyle and Pete brought a level of kindness, patience, professionalism, creativity and enthusiasm that blew our expectations out of the water! I would highly recommend this place for both professional and amateur musicians alike.

Cool place. Pricey but fun for a look around and some Blast from the Past nostalgia.
Cool little shop with a small but diverse selection. Recommended to check it out!
Idc if you believe it or not it or take this post down but it is REAL . They sell bootleg shirts. My dads punk band ((((who I shall not name)))) never authorized them to sell their shirts- so this “store” is making a profit while my dads band doesnt even get one red cent. I even called them about it and was told the person I needed to talk to wasn’t available and never got back to me, so go that here’s yr review ThiEVE$$$$$ sick city InDEED
6. Old Style Guitar Shop
Address: 510 A, 510 N Hoover St, Los Angeles, CA 90004 , Echo Park , California , United States
Wish I could give them 6 stars. My go-to for setups and I recently purchased a rubber-bridge guitar for a friend that he LOVES. Also Tracy is so friendly and helpful!! Old Style for life ❤️
Love this shop! I picked up a baritone acoustic guitar with rubber bridge installed. I’m a piano player and not very confident in my guitar playing abilities but I felt comfortable plugging in and testing out a few guitars before making a decision. Good vibes!
Reubens does excellent affordable work. He cleated a crack in the top of my Gibson LG-O, re-glued a split in the back and secured some loose bracing. He even gave me repair tips when I showed interest in doing some smaller repairs on my own.
Changed this review because I know Old Style is a small indie shop trying to get by …
Seems like a cool shop with cool folks who were having a bad day. They got annoyed at me playing for less than 30 minutes on a shop-built guitar … You’d think they want to sell those.
Tourists: This is probably a good shop for repairs, but not playing and trying instruments. I like a guitar store that will just let you play and try for a long while, especially if you’re a courteous player who knows how to handle guitars.
Locals: hit this place up for repairs, rare gems, and Fender-style custom builds!
Nice and quaint, staff knowledgeable
Called inquiring about what Electric 6 string fenders they have in stock, and all he said was ‘it’s best you just come into the shop’. Seemed real snobby. I’m a very impulsive buyer and a serious player. I said I’m likely chasing s strat. I really want an aged white with a 70s headstock and a rosewood fretboard. And I’ve got 2k burning in my pocket. I’m also interested in a thinline tele. But he didn’t seem to really care what I was after or to give me any friendly encouragement to check out what he has, just wanted me off the phone and presumed I didn’t know what I was talking about.
On April 18th I brought my guitar in to have some binding repair work done on the fret board. They said to just leave it and in a couple of days someone would call me back with an estimate and scheduling of the labor. No one called so
I called back a couple of times and no one picked
up. I even drove by to stop and knock on the door during business hours.
Crickets…….
On a hunch today I stopped by again and walked into The Old Style Guitar Shop. When I came in they said the were closed for business. Of course they were.
They were ready to move everything outta there Pronto! Every musical instrument that had a case was on the floor ready to go out the front door.
I asked for my own guitar which they found in a
pile of other steel strings and headed back home.
I’m so glad I dropped in today. I doubt if they will be there for very long.
did a bad job twice on set ups. open string buzzing both times, why i went back the second time i have no idea. the intonation lasted about a month. these were both on american made gibsons.
the last one i got they stuffed card stock under the bridge saddles and left it hanging out. they did not ask me before charging me if it was ok to this hack DIY style repair yet charged me full price.
they also sold me what they said were flat wound strings but when i got them out of the package they were regular round wound.
AND on top of being amateurs, they are argumentative and arrogant. perhaps to cover up that they only sort of know what they doing?

I bought a full-size violin from Michael last October. He was super nice and patient. When I tried violins at his store, he showed violins, violas and cellos he made to my husband and kids, telling them the stories about the instruments. I could tell he pretty enjoyed making the instruments. He was seriously proud of his products.
Last week I went back to Michael to get new pegs and bridge for my violin. He lent me one of the violins made by him. I was so surprised at the sound of the violin! It was extra rich and warm, sounding like deep and broad river flowing between steer mountains, or thick and vast clouds waving in the sky. The impressive sound had added more fun to my daily practice!
Today I went to return the violin to Michael and get back my violin. He gave me a really good price. Besides making new pegs and bridges, adjusting the height of the strings and installing a new tailpiece to fit in fine tuners, he has fixed all the problems on the violin, some of which I even didn’t notice before. There was two tiny cracks at the bottom and the connection of the back and side, and a scratch on the upper side of the violin. But everything looks great now! For all of these he only charged me no more than $100.
For those who really want a nice stringed instrument, Michael and his products are absolutely worth trying!
Michael is a professional of the highest caliber! I went to his shop to check some violins in the 80-100k, he had them ready for me, he was NEVER pushy, and made me feel 100% comfortable. His own violins are also amazing and one particular one (a copy) sounded better than the original. He is not a talkative person as he is totally dedicated to the sound of the instruments. Highly recommend this shop.
Michael knows cellos! He understands the instruments in amazing ways.
9. Very Special LA
Address: 1406 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026 , Echo Park , California , United States
Cool record store, great food, and very friendly staff. Come check them out sometime I always like to flip through their record collection when I come here to get coffee ☕️
Very very very good coffee. Best coffee I’ve had in LA. Thank you.
Small personal shop for vinyl fanatics
I went down here for record store day. They are a small little cafe full of a bunch of crazy collection of records. I just wish it would have been a little more organized but their selection is incredible! They have all sorts of genres and a big amount of each.
Good drinks, pastries and vinyls
Staff didn’t respond when I said hi and thank you or attempt to be friendly, but were super nice to the guy who came in after me. Guess I didn’t look hipster enough?
Not Very Cosmic
I recall coming to Cosmic Vinyl years ago when it was a record store that also sold coffee. Must have been different ownership then as it used to be a couple of older guys behind the counter and working the floor. Now it appears to be more or less a hipster coffee house that also sells records. That said, the coffee is “okay” and the record selection about the same, with some better copies in new arrivals bin mostly.
Hit or miss on this place. Could be better.
UPDATE:. Happened three times now. Hours says they close at 9pm. I show up at 7pm, and was turned away as they “were closing early.” Whatever.

Amazing place to go get practice or jam with friends definitely recommend
Love this place. Simple and effective. Great online customer service. Equipment is good.
The best way to Practice. Period.
Rooms might seem clean. If you don’t run into one that is actually dirty n Sometimes smelly. Equipment sometimes is damaged.
I’ve been booking my sessions here for a while but my last 5 experiences were bad. Things got worse after the price increase lol
(Recording rooms)
I hope they can fix these issues
Rehearsal Rooms are alright for a a quick jam
I like the location but cheap equipment and thin walls are not worth the price you pay. The drum kits are just freaking horrible. Plus if you go to the bathroom and forget your code to get back in the room you’re screwd. The bathroom should not be closed off in this situation.
This place is a bit annoying. The last two times I practiced here on weekday mornings there were 4-5 open spots in parking lot and “valet” wouldn’t let me park? Not sure why website mentions free valet. Plan to waste a bit of your rented time loading in and parking in neighborhood. Rooms themselves are fine though!
Great space to rehearse, not so great to track/record. I really wish the rehearsal spaces didn’t share walls with recording spaces- the sound bleed is really bad.
Other than that, really affordable and convenient place to make music if you’re able to book it when no one else is around.
These people blare alarms at night until 3am disturbing residents in the area
Thus place is a maze and hard to get into. Wasted about 39 minutes trying to figure this place out. Rooms are cheap but super duper small. Not the best rehearsal studio in my experience.
Lisa and Gabriel took me in, showed me around the shop, took time to answer all my questions, and let me play the basses for sale. The proverbial kid in a candy store experience was had… And they are pretty darn knowledgeable too! Totally the best day I had in a long time!

Fantastic studio. Great engineers. Highly recommend recording or mixing here!
Had a great experience at Portia Street – went from pre-production to mixing so we got a good feel for the space. Fantastic location to get vibe and be creative. Good team as well, Dylan created a focused atmosphere and knows his gear inside and out. Will be working here again
Dylan is an exceptional studio owner, producer and engineer. The spaces are stunning and foster a creative and productive experience for anyone who books here. I very highly recommend Portia Street Studios!

great vibes…sweet store with cool vintage instruments, music gear, turntables, receivers, speakers, a respectably large selection of vinyl records, and a real nice guy named Hunter who was very helpful.
Great little shop to find very interesting gear. Also best guitar pedal prices I’ve found in LA.
Very nice selection of unique guitars and amps. Owner was very pleasant to deal with.
This place has got a cool vibe, a nice selection of vintage amps and you cant beat the customer service. But I think prices are a bit on the high side and that brings the rating down. Just my opinion.
Good variety of vintage instruments, worth a visit for any musician. They have a large record selection too.
