Always clean and organized. Quick checkout. Great hot dogs..esp the Cheeseburger Dog.
For a place like Eielson, they try their damnedest to make things great.
Often times out of specific things for your uniform.
Gun counter employees have always been great.
If you are comparing this store to a bigger base, you’re going to have your expectations not met. But if you’re realizing you’re in no where Alaska and at Eielson, you should be surprised or happy with how much they actually carry. Or just shop online.
Lots of things to get or do. Reasonable prices
Needs more items. Store is big enough, just not stocked enough.
Better than most
closes way too early.
Never has anything you actually need, like replacement water filters though they carry the filter itself. Horrible selection of women’s clothing. There’s no dry cleaners in this BX but they offer to drop it off for you in Fairbanks. We dropped ours off on a Saturday, went on the following Friday to pick it up. They didn’t even drop it off until Thursday, and we found that out after they sent us on a trip to Fairbanks to pick it up. Don’t offer a service if you’re not going to follow through. Some benefit. I’ll keep giving my money to Amazon. They’ll even say you can order from their website…I needed some corps badges because the BX doesn’t carry any mine locally. A month it took, and that’s after I complained at the 3 week mark.
Most businesses were closed
3. Eielson Thrift Shop
Address: 365 Kodiak St, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
Everyone is always helpful, I haven’t bought anything from here but I did donate a big box of stuff. I loved seeing the excitement from everyone especially a boy who was there wanting everything. Most organized thrift store I have ever been to.
It’s always the highlight of my week to come shop on Thursdays! I always find there are new items and clothes coming in every week. If I ever have a question the volunteers are super nice and helpful.
사소한 중고 물품 파는 곳이고 옷이 많음
I do like the thrift store. However, I used to like it a lot more. In 2009, they had $2 bags. Now, when they have their bag sale, it is $10 a bag. Quite a jump! The clothing items themselves have gone up exponentially which is why I suppose the bag sales went up. It used to be if there was a stain or something on an item, they would sell it for 25 or 50 cents. Now they have flat base prices, such as $5 for a men’s shirt with long sleeves. I am sure it makes it easier to mark the clothing when you have these base prices. However, it is difficult when you know a shirt is only $7.88 at Walmart to see $5 at the thrift store. He would also be a blessing if they would do a short cleaning on some of the items. I looked at a microwave this evening, which was marked $15. When I opened it, I was shocked to see how filthy it was. It was full of cheese as one would never expect to find on a shelf in a store. Nevertheless, we are thankful for our thrift store and you can find some good bargains there sometimes.
Nice place to get clothes and things for the house at a low price
4. Eielson Main Exchange
Address: 3112 Broadway Ave, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
Convenient, but has a limited selection of just about everything. Often times they’ll also be closed outside of their posted hours, seemingly without warning. It’s COVID times, so its kind of excusable now but still frustrating when you need to get something and don’t want to drive to North Pole.
Friendly staff, has variety of items
It lacks a lot of shoes, and the shoes they put out are trash. The px lacks a lot in other areas as well. It needs to be remodeled
I was purchasing some clearance items that had a promotion of “take additional 25% off” posted in two different walkways in the store. When checking out I was informed that the sale had ended the day prior, so I ask if a manager would honor the promotion as it was still posted in all the walk ways of the Main Exchange. Adrianna(the manager/supervisor) then pointed out that it was my fault I did not see the end date of the sale promotion, then I replied as a consumer, WE typically see what the “BIG SALE” is trying to get us to purchase and if it had ended the sign should have been taken down. Once again instead of owning the stores mistake, she(Adrianna) explained that there was only ONE individual that could take the signs down and he had not been in, so I responded hopefully he didn’t quit or the sale would last forever since “he” is the single point of failure for removing sale sign when they have ended. LONG STORY SHORT, the store made a mistake by failing to remove an old advertisement, and instead of owning the mistake and honoring the sale before removing the advertisement signs, management(Adrianna) ridiculed me and attempted to point out my incompetence for failing to read the fine print of the sale dates. In an effort to save face management tried to offer the sale, but after being disrespected in the manner I had been(for their mistake), the situation was larger than the purchase and I had no choice but to leave. Treat your customers with respect and own your mistakes!
Take the worse BX you have ever been to, then times that by 10. Absolutely small and with very little stock of inventory. Drive the 20 miles to Fort Wainwright if you are looking for more. Don’t get me wrong, the staff is great and outgoing. If you have ever been to a large Military base like Ft Hood or Ft Campbell, we call this BX a large troop store.

Reviews
Clean place, reasonably priced concession stand and free movies! Hard to argue with that!
Everyone loves free movies. That’s exactly what you get they keep up with current releases and have snacks and drinks available. Movies Friday, and weekend’s for 100% free. It would be silly not to take advantage of it.
8. Eielson Commissary
Address: 2540 Central Ave Suite 100, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
Boars Head meats/products was a game changing add to the store! Sushi Chef is also very much appreciated! The Commissary has a much bigger selection now and the meats are much better quality!
Recently started opening on Monday! So now open 7 days per week! Fantastic!
Support the troops
The ladies and gentlemen at the Eielson Commissary are a wonderful bunch. Always made us feel at home. Excellent meat market and they keep their shelves well stocked. And on top of all that they hosted several holiday events that were really fun
Deli was great
It’s good for it’s size, which is small.
I have shopped at this commissary for 15 years. The selection is limited and I blame that on DECA not the staff. Produce is hit or miss, but get what you need for a few days and its alright.I do believe it was open on Mondays considering we are 10 miles from Safeway which is high priced.
Cashiers and baggers are great. Deli section always serves with a smile, but selection of me at a is lacking. Sandwiches are great especially the grilled wraps. Don’t shop on military paydays if you are like me and hate crowds.
Very very small. Has a total of 5 lanes and 2 self check outs. When I went in during lunch time they only had 1 Lane and 2 self check outs open. Very small selection of items.
One of the smallest commissaries I’ve been to. If you need the regular stuff then you’ll, be fine, but not much of a selection beyond that.
Good if you have to go, limited and the most expensive groceries in the Fairbanks area. Better off with Fred Meyer or costco.
9. Auto Hobby Shop
Address: 5267-5269 Arctic Ave, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
We got our vehicles done at a fraction of the cost for winterizing and Rick and the other mechanics were so patient and helpful. …I’ll never do retail ever again! Can’t say enough great things abt this place.
Best way to get your car serviced. Everyone is super helpful. I don’t know anything about the cars but the auto hobby shop team helped every time in any major maintenance. They help you with everything except the car AC issue. Lisa is a great inspiration for all ladies who wish to do their own car service.
Fast, honest, and fair prices.
Rick the Manager and Lisa the technician are both super knowledgeable and nice. No dumb questions here and willing to work around your schedule.
You get your own bay and tools box. What more could you want. They have a press and tire machine on site to get things done and they have the parts house numbers on the wall to source things locally as well have a small selection of necessities like zipties and clamps.
staff need to learn not everyone in there is a master mechanic.
* If I could give a negative star rating I would *
I called to inquire about how much guidance is given on repairs. I clearly stated at the beginning of the phone conversation that I was calling to find out if they would be able to assist with questions and steps on a heater core replacement. My husband was wanting to try and do the work himself. He nor I have ever utilized the auto hobby shop on base. Therefore we do not know the level of assistance the mechanics offer. I went into this call knowing that it was going to be quite a long and tedious job. I was told that legally the mechanic’s could not help or even assist on this repair. I 100% understand this. That is not what set me off. The supervisor I was on the phone with said to me, ” I don’t know why these guys get their wives to call up here and ask these ridiculous questions”!!!! THAT’S 100% Not okay!!! That is incredibly disrespectful. Don’t make derogatory statements when someone calls and has specific questions and concerns. I work in customer service and if I were to treat people like that I would get fired. I don’t like everyone I deal with on a daily basis, but I keep my thoughts to myself. I would literally drag myself through glass before I ever seek assistance at the Auto Hobby Shop on Eielson AFB.
10. Eielson Barber Shop
Address: Bldg. 3338, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
The manager always does my haircut, really nice and good customer service experience with her. Probably the best barbershop on a base I have experienced so far.
Editing my review, as they have had a change of workers since my last. This place has an awesome manager and the barbers are nice. They’re short staffed, so hours can be wonky, but they work hard to get good cuts done.
If you’re in need of a quick, professional cut this is the place for a mere 12 dollars they will get you lined up with the finest of flat tops and tightest of skin fades. Fantastic crew who work well with kids also. If your heading in ask for either Ryan aka Rhyno or Natalie and they will get you well taken care of.
The wait times are generally always over an hour. Would love it if they would get some more barbers.
Hit or miss on who’s working
In 2021, I received the worst haircut of my life here. It was bad enough that I still think about it sometimes.
I asked for a little trim on the back and the barber gave me a completely different hair cut I didn’t ask for. If you want a good hair cut go somewhere else
Look, I understand that the Barber shop is currently understaffed, and I understand people like their haircut not botched. But only being able to get through SIX people with TWO barbers in an HOUR is straight up incompetency. It’s honestly more time efficient if you drive to the Army base to get a similar level of haircut
11. Eielson AFB Legal Office
Address: 2561 Wabash Ave, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
Has everything a Class Six needs—energy drinks, nicotine, Tornados, and a good selection of beer and booze. Only gripe: would be great if it opened at 5:30 instead of 6.
Great shoppette! Wish it could be open more, but I understand the staffing shortage.
Within the times I have stopped by, I was able to gas my car quickly. No wait lines. The shoppette links to the BX (when the BX is open), which could be good or bad depending on whether members park at the pump to run into the BX instead of parking elsewhere. I have seen many times people park at the pump when they don’t even buy gas. This is inconsiderate to others depending on the time of the day and car traffic. Other than this, the service has been great.
Gas and pretty much whatever you need from a convenience store
Good for gas and quick stops.
Great group of guys in the shop
Need somthing done to your rig stop on in and see them
All the staff are awesome.
One star for the hours.
The management is absolutely disgusting and horrible. Until new management I will not purchase anything. I would rather pay more in gas at a NP gas station than give a penny to this place! Terrible customer service thanks to horrible management!!!
13. Baker Field House
Address: 3301 Broadway Ave, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
The front desk ladies are super friendly. The gym is clean and have a lot of machines and free weights.
Legit
Amazing gym. Indoor half football field. Indoor track. Tons of cardio machines, crossfit area, basically real cool gym.
24 hour access. Plenty of machines. Great gym.
Field house portion is awesome, but the rest of the facility is out dated and worn out. Like other things on Eielson, it seems like this base is an after thought when it comes to Congress investment into the infrastructure and quality of life for Eielson.
Decent gym. Best around for sure.
There is to long of a time between things closing and when they reopen. If closed for cleaning why cant the staff clean.
14. Eielson Air Force Base Visitor Center
Address: 1199 Old Richardson Hwy, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
Spent several days here at about $15 / day as a retiree.. what a deal!! Great base of operations!!! Great area to explore !!!
We were here in the 1980’s. It was our first base. What a great place for a tour. Favorite memories/activities: driving the Denali Hwy, Chena Hot Springs, Denali National Park – riding the tour bus through, the dry dry snow and hoar frost that lasted all winter, the beautiful amazing dancing Northern Lights, the beautiful long summer days and incomparable long red sunsets of winter, all of the experiences of winter in the Fairbanks North Star Borough: the temperature plunging to 70 degrees below and averaging in the area of 50 below, the static electricity, the flat tires and so much more! The troups here were especially close and took care of families while sponsors were away during severe weather on TDY’s.
I saw a moose on the base 🙂
Great place to visit. Thank you Alaska.
I caught a hop out of here in 1985 to Barksdale AFB on KC – 135. Great place, the natives are friendly. Aim High USAF.
15. Eielson Community Center
Address: 5254-5272 Industrial Dr, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
Has kind of gone down hill since last year, they have 9 arcade games, but only 2 pin ball machines work. The jungle gym is still really cool and large though.
Understaffed, needs more observation. Fun place to bring the kids to blow off steam
Nice indoor playground
16. Gold Rush Inn
Address: 540 North St, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
We are currently staying here waiting for housing at Fort Wainwright… Can’t say a single negative thing. The furnished townhome is amazing!!
Ok I Ok I I have to be NB and I
Military style rooms
I’ve stayed at worse. Great staff though!
Has all the essentials that one would expect from Air Force billeting however during the summer you’ll notice the lack of AC and when it’s warm out the rooms get toasty. Also no cable TV while there due to issues with GCI. Located close to the dining facility and BX which is nice.
Staff at front desk is very nice. Room was fairly clean. Sheets were torn like they were too small for the bed and forced on, and had faint stains, but smelled clean. Room came with refrigerator and microwave.
This place is probably fine most of the year, but prepare for roommates in the summer. Those roommates are mosquitos. And they are sweating too. Fan in the window is the best AC you’ll get.
No ac so its hot and stuffy in the summer and they sell $.99 Arizona ice teas for $2
Sucked, only Wi-Fi is in the lobby, business center was just a room with desk and computers instead of beds. This place should be a remote tour.
17. Yukon Club
Address: 2450 Central Ave, Eielson AFB, AK 99702 , Eielson Air Force Base , Alaska , United States
Great place and good pizza! My family and I enjoyed eating their chicken, bacon, ranch pizza.
Clean this place
I am visiting and this is about the only thing open, thank God. Also, there is the restaurant portion which closes at 19:00, coffee shop at 13:00, and the bar closes at 22:00.
Closes to early.
Beer is too expensive to be on base. But when it’s the only place you have
No food, time on door does not reflect operating hours.
Patrica and Sabrina are great bartender and very friendly.
Small over priced portions, but the options are limited on/near base.
It took 40 minutes from the time I placed my order to get my chef salad to go. It consisted of 3/4 container of lettuce, chunks (not shredded) lettuce, very little of an underripe tomato, one egg cut in half, zero cucumber, only ham for the meat, a tiny bit of shredded cheese, and celery chunks, and one container of ranch dressing – all for $10 with my club member discount. Not at all worth it when I needed that food to go because I just spent an hour there for a meeting, and had to go to the register to remind them I really needed my order done.
