I’ve bought from and had my guitars worked on at the Sound Shoppe for nearly 20 years. Always a great experience with great people!
Love doing business with these guys. Darrell is a top notch, stand up guy who knows the ins and outs of a guitar as well as music in general. His passion for what he does and his dedication to customers is what keeps me coming back to this place.
Darrell is a good guy. Honest, affordable, layaway available. Shop local.
Always a good experience at the Sound Shoppe. Daryl is very good at working on my guitars. I trust him.
Has your needs
Cozy and good range of product
I’ve been shopping at this place on and off for over 20 years. Way back when it was in the shopping center on Mall Rd. It’s been a while ago, and I had honestly forgotten about my sub par experience until I stumbled upon this place on the net. I took a Les Paul in to get it set up. The store owner did it, and did a nice job. I then took a less expensive guitar in and paid the same price for a setup done on it. When I got the guitar back (my wife dropped it off and picked it up for me since I have a busy schedule) it was obvious that a full setup wasn’t done on the less expensive guitar (which was still in the $1000 dollar range). All that was done was a string change.
Also, while I’ve always gotten along good with the owner, the owners son is now in the shop almost every time I go in and he is extremely unpleasant to deal with. Acts like it’s a huge pain to have to deal with customers, and isn’t friendly at all. I’ve always gone here because I live in Florence, and it’s closer than other places, but from now on I’ll probably be going across the river. At least they are much more friendly there, and if I pay for a full setup they actually do a full setup.
Darrel worked on an old acoustic of mine. I needed a new nut to be made to fit a guitar and he did it for me for a somewhat decent price. I go to change the strings and the piece falls right off the second I take the old strings off. Go get work done somewhere else.
Don’t ever try to sell or trade with Darrel from this place……..he will low ball you every single time! This used to be the best place to buy sell or trade any music equipment but not anymore
3. Gold Guns and Guitars
Address: 902 Florence Blvd, Florence, AL 35630 , Florence , Alabama , United States
I’ve done business with this company several times and its always a good experience. I will definitely be doing more business with them again.
Excellent experience everytime. Great selection of guns and a very knowledge staff. Never thought I would say this about a Pawn Shop but they offer top dollar on most trades. For example I recently took one of my 9 MM in for a trade appraisal. I actually took it to 4 places, the 2nd best offer was still $140 less than thier offer.
Haven’t ever purchased a gun here, but I always go in for my FFL transfers. These guy have the cheapest transfer fee in town, plus the two employees I normally deal with are super friendly and that goes a long way. I knocked off one star because there is an older guy that works here and he ignored me because he was “chatting” with someone about non business matters, also, one of the other employees isn’t the most knowledgeable but he’s always willing to help, so that makes up for it. Other than that, I’d say these guys are good to go. You can’t expect them to return firearms that are defective… you have to go through the manufacturer for that. That’s the case with any firearms retailer. Once you buy a gun and shoot it, it’s yours for better or worse.
Purchase on a Saturday a used gun looked like new but won’t shoot. Monday morning called them about gun and they tell me o well we can’t help u. They sell junk and don’t stand behind what they sell. Only buy from them if u want to give ur money away..
Employee seemed like he really didn’t wanna help me plus when I said I would pass on the item he proceeds to say whatever followed by some mumbling comments won’t be back there’s other pawn shops that have employees who actually appreciate customers
Don’t waste your time sending them info on potential firearms you wish to sell. Online says will get back to you after 36 hours with appraisal offer. I submitted info on August 4th. Its August 13th, nothing has been emailed back and yes spam folder was checked to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Called August 11th. Guy answered phone saying he was with 2 customers but if I gave my name and phone number he would call me back with. an appraisal offer after reviewing my email before he closed for the day. Never received anything. Called back August 12th. Spoke to a different guy. He said Josh(the owner) is the one that does those offers and that I would need to call the Florence location. I did just that. Spoke to a woman. She said they have been so short staffed and are about 400 emails behind right now. I asked to speak to Josh. She stated he was busy with other customers. She said she would look at email offer and would get back to me by end of the day. No call or email. Lack of follow thru and lack of communication with this business and its employees. Change your 36 hour window online so that you give people a realistic time frame when you are following up.
400 emails = 9days for me and still counting. Stay away!!!
4. Alabama Music
Address: 2450 Mall Rd, Florence, AL 35630 , Florence , Alabama , United States
performed for 6 years in marching band ,jazz band, and concert band during high school, as well as spur of the moment garage bands and sit in drummer for my buds. alabama music was and forever will be my one stop go to place for anything music related , tips ,gear, rental, or just a good ol personal tune up lesson. great selection and even better knowledgeable friendly people.
Greated when we walked in and helped immediately. They answered all our questions and took the time with my daughter to answer the questions she had. Great place and good prices.
Service here is usually hit and miss. One day is fine, the next is worse.
This store offers everything you’d need for band (and some orchestra) including, but not limited to: mouthpieces, sticks, neck straps, lessons, practice pads, picks, amps, music books, cleaning supplies, and you can also (I believe) order instruments from a catalog.
To save yourself a lot of time and some irritation pointed at you, try to have a closer idea of what you want instead of just saying “I need reeds” or “I need drumsticks”. You will have a much better time there if you do.
The “here or there” aspect of the service as well as some questionable prices on a few items is the reason for my score. If you go in on a good day and don’t mind the prices, by all means, this is a 5 star place.
TL;DR: Whether you’re a band director in need of some instrument repairs before band camp or you need some cool sticks for your mallet recital, Alabama Music has got your back. Just keep on the lookout for good service and bad prices (not saying that it always happens, probably just a fluke)
Have a good day 🙂
It’s okay. Maybe a broader selection of guitars, but I understand sales and marketing.
Its a good place to go for your music needs.
Researched music stores that “buy” instruments. This store popped up among others. Called store. A woman answered. She was cold & rude. I inquired & she said No. Their competitor also confirmed that they buy instruments.
$35 for a flute cleaning kit? That says it all.
5. Renana Studios, L.L.C.
Address: 120 E Tombigbee St, Florence, AL 35630 , Florence , Alabama , United States
This group of individuals were extremely professional and easy to work with! I hope to have an opportunity to go back!
” I Swear ” was a great song, I read the article on Gary Baker in “tools for Success” magazine , Fall/Winter 2018 issue, very talented musician and songwriter.
7. Sam Phillips Music Celebration
Address: 624 Sam Phillips Street, Florence, AL 35630 , Florence , Alabama , United States
This a really cool record shop. I didn’t see a whole lot of current artists’ records, but if you like classic records at a very reasonable price this place has them. Plus, old VHS tapes of love shows and docs as well as other music related memorabilia.
Stellar selection of original vinyls. Really cool store!
Clean place, cool vibes
Great service and selection
On Google website said it was open. But when we got there it’s closed on Monday- Wednesday. Very disappointed.
My son and I take Mommy and Me Music and Movement class with Mrs. Bandstra. She is wonderful and we look forward to class each week! It is very informative while still being developmentally appropriate for the babies! Highly recommend 🙂
My daughters have all taken lessons with Fink’s and they love it. We have grown to love the owner as if she were family.
