Needed a drum kit for my church, was in and out in 30 min with a great set. However, the bass drum was cracked (that would be the mfr fault), and went back for a quick no-hassle swap.
Staff were very helpful and informative.
I want to note that my experience with Sam Ash began earlier in the year in April 2019 when I met Kamau. He expertly walked me through the pros and cons of the various saxophone selections and helped me with the purchase of the Benjamin Adams saxophone.
Kamau also helped me with an alto sax repair need on Saturday, November 2. After taking a look at the B flat key and the cork at the neck with its connections to the mouthpiece, he set me up with Jake. I picked up the sax on Monday, November 4, and it was all in order again. I played it that night, and it sounded great. To those who are considering buying, I recommend that you get the service agreement. It works perfectly, and my repair was done without added cost or delay.
Thanks, Kamau, and Jake for your assistance. I will be back and will recommend others to Sam Ash.
I came in on 10/26/19 to return a very nice tenor sax which I bought new last March. After being there, I decided to trade it for an alto. Eric was extremely helpful. It pleased me to find out that I had come in on a day you were giving away an acoustic guitar with a $250 or more purchase. Wow!!!
I got a great deal and a free guitar! Praise the Lord. I will be back for more, since I still need a flute and a used Bach Stradivarius trumpet one day.
Thanks, Sam Ash. You are my favorite place to shop. Do not ever close your brick and mortar stores. Guys like me will always need them and use them.
Great store for musicians to reach out and ” touch” the merchandise without being scolded like a 3 yr old in a toy store. The customer service is great. The selection of merchandise and brands are great. Prices are competitive. You’ll probably find what you’re looking for on a visit.
Good place. They have a ton of gear and instruments just like guitar center – even more selection maybe. I’d say they have a larger selection of band instruments, violins, saxophones than guitar center. Otherwise similar. Guitar center has more selection of high end gear.
I noticed several of the electric guitars I tested, mostly $400 to $1000 strats, needed a better setup and/or had finicky electronics (scratchy knobs, signal cutting out). I would recommend they do a better job with setting up each guitar and testing before selling.
For instance Maple Street guitars in Buckhead really insures their guitars are set up expertly and they send less than optimal guitars back to the factory, making sure their inventory is all professional quality.
Nice place. Just bit higher in price
Had to get my own strings from behind the counter when I was tired of waiting on the stoners working there. I wound up with the wrong strings because the guy was to busy talking it up to some teenage kids.
Had some friends wanting guitars/bass’s. Horrible getting orders because ever sense this shop has opened, their selection has dropped in both departments and I’m gearing this toward metal players. Their string selection is suffering and the shelves are missing majority.
Save your self money and go to guitar center who has surprisingly got better ever sense Sam Ash has came around. If you need bass gear, go to Atlanta bass gallery.
If you have to stop in here, come in knowing what you want. So you can spend as little time in this store buying it or getting out before your given the wrong information.
Most of the knowledgeable people have left and stopped working at this store.
The poorest inventory of any Sam Ash Store I’ve been to,(and that includes multiple states). That being said, the staff was helpful and knowledgeable. If you’re in the market for high end electric guitars look no further than Righteous Guitars nearby.
I can think of at least five local mom and pop shops that are 1/8 the square footage of this place that sell a higher quantity of higher quality gear.
I’ve shopped here for 6 years and it has never been this bad. The only competent worker is the one behind the Pro Audio desk, she’s very helpful and knowledgeable about her position.
Trey and Zakiyrah were absolutely a joy to work with! Trey performed the National Anthem to perfection and wow’ed the crowd which elevated the fan experience. We would be honored to have you back to U.S. Bank Stadium any time. SKOL!
Omg Mr. Trey Daniels performed at my wedding and made my night! Extremely talented. Covered all the genres perfectly: Gospel, R and B, Trap Jazz! So dope! I am forever grateful! ❤️
We invited Trey Daniels to perform at our cocktail hour at our wedding—and to say it was a hit is an understatement . I still have guests raving about how much they enjoyed the saxophone player! He completely set the tone for the evening and brought so much energy and excitement to our guests before entering into the reception. Thank you so much for your presence on our special day!
George is awesome, very helpful and knowledgeable.
Great bunch of people
Very nice people and the guitars are phenomenal!
This place is essential for anyone who plays acoustic guitar, is looking to take up the instrument, or is looking for lessons.
Great customer service. Sales team is very knowledgeable and helpful. They brought a few options for me to try and then based off of whether or not I liked the guitars, they would bring out a different one. I usually tend to get a little stressed or overwhelmed buying new instruments, but I felt at ease and thoroughly enjoyed the process. Great selections on guitars. I definitely recommend.
Cool store, guitar, ukulele, mandolin, harmonica, great service.
So, let me preface this by saying this review has mostly to do with the attitude of the repair shop guys. I cannot speak to the attitude of the acoustic area which is more than half the store and business (they may be wonderful and angelic for all I know – but I believe the sales people work both sections). I brought a few guitars I was having issues with here to discuss options for getting the tone I have been seeking for years. I was told by another guitar store (believe it or not) that these guys were the go to peeps for a resolution to my quest. Here’s what I get whenever I go to Guitar Center or Ken Santon: 99.9% of the time, guys that are super friendly, cool and genuinely excited or at least interested in talking guitars and related equipment. This is over 20+ years in the Atlanta area. The vibe at Maple street is moderate to extreme snobbery. ZERO warm smiley welcome. I actually used to live nearby (within a mile) for 17 years and would pop in every once in a while. Never did I get the warm friendly welcome of other music stores. I almost feel as if I’m at the post office (not that bad though). I’m not saying that a warm smile is a pre-requisite for me to have a positive option of a store but why the heck are you working in a music store if you don’t enjoy music? Regardless, while I waited to speak to the repair/tech guys, I interacted with a tall, long-haired hippy lookin dude who was okay. I was trying one of their guitars and an amp that I was genuinely curious about and he was not rude but he was okay but he was rude to another customer who was clearly a beginner. I feel like they were only nicer to me because I am a halfway decent musician. I do not like that. As a small business owner, I treat everyone the same and so do the bigger music stores. Heck, I’m excited at the opportunity to guide a beginner when I get approached at a music store when they hear me play and have questions. By far the coolest dude was about 6 foot tall and his name was Dave or Mark – don’t remember which but he had some kind of hearing aid type thing. He was actually excited to discuss guitar stuff. I would buy something from him.
Onto the tech guys. The two dudes in the tech section where not only relatively clueless but they were about as interested in discussing options as I am at having to clean the lint trap in my dryer. Actually, less than that. Not only were they limited in their knowledge (which is TOTALLY fine – perhaps a but disappointing but I would have no issues with that, I’m finding few people have answers and I probably need to find a tone specialist who REALLY knows pickups etc. ). It was their awful energy, attitude, vibe. I was fully offering and expecting to pay for the time it took to just explore options and they could not have cared less or been less interested. I felt like I was talking to someone who had to pay a buck for every word that came out of their mouth. I felt as though if you are not a jazz or classical musician, you are a chump in their eyes. I got FAR more input (worthwhile too) from the cool sales dude I referenced earlier. I should also note that an older woman came by while I was waiting to talk to the tech guys and she was pretty nice. But it feels as if they just tolerate the electric section and can’t wait till the people trying out guitars or amps finish.
In short, my experience with the sales people was the same as its always been, most are not enthusiastic and most don’t seem to enjoy being there with a few exceptions. They never say “hey, try this guitar or this amp, it might be more what you’re looking for” or “check this out, it sounds fantastic”. Never have I had that experience here, ever. The tech department guys are drones – THEY MAY BE AMAZING AT GUITAR TECH – but forget about getting any creative suggestions or interest in trying to resolve something that isnt textbook. And forget about being treated like a fellow musician. But they are excellent robots.
A shame, I like supporting the smaller shops etc.
I like the information on the web-site. I look forward to visiting the store soon.
Insane prices and super weird about handling merchandise. To get into the shop you have to ring a doorbell and wait for someone to come open the door like it’s a jewelers vault.
To actually try out a guitar, they make you go through the most ridiculous process imaginable. You find an associate, ask to play a specific guitar, wait for them to take it off the rack, then play it, wait for them to put it back, ask for another, repeat. We’re not children here guys — if I can’t be trusted to take a guitar off a hanger then what would make you think I have $2400 for a Chinese Les Paul copy?
The guys working there seem decently knowledgeable and are very friendly, but Jesus what a pain to shop!

Fantastic service. Stephanie fixed the problem on my instrument and I had it back the same day I brought it in. Highly recommended.
Amazing place for string players
so knowledgeable and wonderfully atentive
I don’t write bad reviews but this has stuck with me and truly bothered me.
I set an appointment 2 weeks out which is fair enough they are busy etc, my appointment was at 1 in the afternoon, I ended up coming 15 mins early, it was starting to rain so I tried turning the doorknob to see if I would be able to put my cello case inside, S. Voss then opens the door and from word one she is unbelievably rude to me for the whole time I was there. I told her I knew I was early and I was happy to wait, but she had to tell me I interrupted her lunch, where I said again very kindly I would be happy to wait as I knew I was early , “Why are you here?” She said. I told her I had a cello she had worked on about 20 years ago with a crack that had opened. There are so many things I would like to say here, but she tells me my cello is worthless and she is “ ethically “ opposed to working or fixing the cello at all … the cello is from the mid to late 1600’s and is an amazing cello, and very worth saving. There is no bass bar crack, no sound post crack, the crack that had open was later fixed with a much kinder luthier and was not a huge deal to fix. My cello is doing great now etc, however when I was talking to Voss I said “ I’m a recording artist and I still record with this.” She then asked me “Why” in a extremely condescending / rude way. The hubris, snobbery and rudeness was unbelievable. I have been to the higher end shops all over the US, nyc , Chicago , etc etc. I have never been treated like this, I know I don’t look like I have money, or your typical cello player, but I do make music professionally, and I will say I remained kind the entire appointment. Leaving feeling awful. There is no reason to treat people that unkind. Especially from a shop that more or less looks like it’s in a collage apartment, honestly any other string shop in the atlanta area is nicer, not only in aesthetics, but in temperament. I dare say this appointment was borderline abusive. We should not support shops that do not treat people equally.

Went in with no expectations…left with a big smile on my face. These guys treated me right even though I’m a novice. They have a lot of higher end vintage stuff that’s not in my wheelhouse, but it’s a great spot for experts and novices alike. I got a cool new Vox practice amp and it’s the t*ts for the price.
Just what I was looking for in a guitar store. A friendly and knowledgeable local establishment with its own luthier. A welcome change from the derivative and inconsistent Guitar Centers.
Great service. Thank you for fixing my string.
Had a lot of records that haven’t been put out or put in sections.
Beautiful collection of guitars on sale and consignment, plus a pretty decent record shop!
The staff was very friendly and very attentive. All the gear seems to be in great condition, but overall the prices are a too high for this musician’s budget. Watch out for that undisclosed “checkout fee” 😉
I can’t say that I have been in this place, and most likely will not ever visit, since the owners think it’s appropriate to use FOUL LANGUAGE in their Craigslist postings. My kids like to peruse the musical instruments ads on Craigslist, and I for one do not appreciate them being exposed to that kind of language on a public and FREE classifieds board. I am currently pursuing the matter with CL.
Went to Big House for son’s 24th birthday present: his first ever guitar. Unfortunately this is not the place for that. If you’re not an experienced guitarist, expect to get dropped like a hot potato.
The owner of this business scams customers online making false claims regarding the authenticity and value of his Guitars. Have a luthier you trust look over your next axe from this con-artist.
Amazing gem in a really interesting location. Everyone I’ve ever met there has been wonderfully nice, helpful, and accommodating. The store has a FANTASTIC selection, and everything is affordable and appropriately priced. This store is great- please patronize it and build our local economies while lifting up small businesses!
This is the finest music store around the selection is awesome and the staff are exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly highly recommended thanks a bunch
Earthshaking Music IS my favorite music store in Atlanta. I’m a new customer with 2 visits beneath me and while all of the staff seem good – Charlie in particular, has been very knowledgeable and responsive to my questions and equipment needs. Their selection of bass effects pedals alone is the best I’ve seen at an in-person retailer. Prices seem even with internet pricing but the staff knowledge, attentiveness and great attitudes, are the points that in my opinion, forces me to rank Earthshaking above all of the online retailers and big box competitors.
Keep up the good work guys!
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, great instrument options for guitars and percussion. The location is not the best part of town; otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars.
Solid.
I called on a Saturday to see if a kick drum could be repaired. The gentleman I was speaking with informed the drum specialist won’t be in until Tuesday to take a look at it. Perfectly understandable. I asked how long could the repair could possibly take, which seemed like a reasonable question, but the guy I was speaking with had an entire meltdown! Started talking aggressively and rudely. I told him to relax because it was a simple question. I won’t ever do business with this company. If this is how you react to and treat people for asking simple questions, I can’t imagine the level of service would be any better.
Selling used harmonicas at brand new prices. No boxes, sales staff insist the cases Are the boxes and are all brand new. None sealed.
Opened 2 and saw scratches on the plates.
We were looking for a pre-owned Taylor or Martin acoustic guitar. We’re from out of town and had somewhere to be so we only had about 25 minutes to look around. At first everyone was nice while we looked around, both of our kids are involved heavily in music so they spent their time there trying out instruments to which the gentleman attending (I could assume owner) was kind and attentive. Until we turned down sale of a keyboard, at which point he decided to approach my autistic son while on a small drum kit and scream at him for being too big for it. I’m no fan of leaving places in handcuffs, so I didn’t cave in his face, I decided a well deserved poor review and exposure to the public what a peice of trash he is would suffice. Trying Dirt Cheap Music nearby instead.
*update following response from the owner
It is fair to say that your employee had a right to address the issue, but screaming and belittling an autistic child isn’t the way to go about it. Furthermore, my initial feelings of rage as a protective father are quite normal and my decision to take a more appropriate route is not something I am ashamed of in the slightest. Neither of them damaged anything and nothing was kicked or struck with any kind of force by either child. You responded defensively and completely missed the point. To scream at the child in an aggressive manner, autistic or not is unacceptable and the employee could have delivered the exact same message in a better tone and achieved far better results. I honestly can’t imagine any scenario that aggressively yelling at a person in your store achieves any positive results.
