These guys are the best. Good quality gear at really good prices
This is the place to go for music gear. Good selection of stuff for amazing prices and great customer service .
Great selection with great owners!!!
Wonderful music store.Friendly staff. Very helpful in supplying me with what I needed from instrument to private music lessons.
It’s a standard small music store. There aren’t a lot of new high end instruments here, but they are all very nice folks.
Large selection!! Beautiful instruments!!
I read reviews for this shop and thought it was an honest place to sell my gear. I walked in with an Epiphone AJ 220, with an Epiphone molded hardshell case I bought seperately, and an Epiphone “Snake Pit” 15w practice amp. ALL in like new condition. She plugged the guitar in and it was only the fourth time it had ever been plugged in. I never put the guitar in the case without wiping it down first. Look everything I listed up for yourself, and you’ll see what I lost. I messed up and let the lady know that I was in dire need of money for my family. The old guy asked where I bought it, and when I told him, he said he’d lost alot of business to “places like that”. No. I looked around the shop, and all he had was used gear that had been repaired and put up for sale. Junk. My guitar was the nicest instrument there! The reason he’s losing business is because he’s trying to sell junk and beating people in need out of what their instruments are worth. The lady acted like she was on Pawn Stars! If I hadn’t had needed the money really bad, I would have told her where she could stick her $200! That’s all they gave me for everything I brought in. Look up the items I listed, and you’ll see I did my part to support this business! The reviews I read must have been friends of theirs, because they definately misled me. Not fair at all.
Walked in today to look around and from the moment I walked in the door, the older gentleman (I guess the owner?) had his eye on me and was watching me like a hawk, made me feel unwelcome to be there. He asked if I was looking for anything in particular and when I told him very politely he didn’t have what I was looking for he arrogantly told me “I opened this store in 1973 and everything you see in the store is priced the same as you’d get it online” like ok bud I wasn’t complaining about the price you just don’t have what I was looking for. When I told him I wasn’t looking to buy today, and was just looking around he made a sarcastic comment about “well if you’re not buying, we can just put this back on the shelf” ??? I continued to walk around and look at some more product and he continued to watch me like a hawk until I got in my car and pulled out of the parking spot. All of my musician friends have recommended I don’t frequent this store, and I can honestly say, after that experience, I will not and will tell anyone that asks not to either. Lousy excuse for customer service.
5. Art’s Music Shop, Inc
Address: 4647 US-280, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Goodwater , Alabama , United States
Absolutely a hidden GEM.
Please respect the instruments
They will let you play
Very knowledgeable and helpful in getting the equipment we needed.
Very helpful staff. Selection is a little small but can order what you need. Just a tad pricey however.
Good. place to shop for all your. music. needs.
It’s nice that stores like Art’s are still around.
Friendly & knowledgeable but took longer than expected to get instrument serviced. I was told would be called the next day with estimate, & it was 3 days before I received the call. I told them I had to get instrument back by a specific date for a performance, he said “not a problem”, I was calling them to get it back 4 days before performance, & was able to pick it up the day before it. They kept it for a month, & I was never able to speak directly to guy doing service which was not cheap. Don’t be in a hurry when dealing with them!
No words!
If you drop your instrument off for an estimate get it in writing with a signature from the manager that they will not work on it.
I walked in to pick up my trombone from an estimate, started walking out and was told I owed money. For what? I did not authorize anything.
It’s too bad this shop is the only option in Birmingham. Check out Bailey Brothers to see if they have what you need first.
No se los recomiendo, es mejor comprar en online
6. Lisenby’s Music Shop
Address: 831 S Memorial Dr, Prattville, AL 36067 , Goodwater , Alabama , United States
I’ve known the owner Lance since 2006 and there is no way I would give anything but a good eval. Always wished that I was as positive as him. Anytime I need something from strings to guitars if he hasn’t got it, he’ll get it. Made me ,mad when he moved to Prattville, now I have to drive an extra 5 miles to get some strings. LOL.
Gave advice on what I needed. Thank you
Great deals
Lance and Tracy are nice folks. They have a good selection of strings and accessories. Neat place for obscure instruments.
7. Homewood Musical Instrument Co
Address: 1712 28th Ave S, Homewood, AL 35209 , Goodwater , Alabama , United States
I spoke with the gentlemen and both of them were quite knowledgeable and friendly. Their shop looked like a good repair shop should look and that was reassuring enough.
The only downside was their backlog of work and the 3-4 weeks estimation for getting my work completed; then again, if it’s done correctly the first time, that’s still not too much of a wait. I’d rather have it done right than done a second or third time!
Incredibly helpful folks!
Good product, Good service.
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
8. Gadsden Music Company
Address: 607 Broad St, Gadsden, AL 35901 , Goodwater , Alabama , United States
One of the best local music stores in Alabama considering there are so few. The staff is knowledgeable helpful and very friendly. Great selection on percussion, band, live sound, keyboards, and musical literature and accessories
I’m buying for my son . He is the 3rd generation to use Gadsden Music.
Very friendly and helpful. Fast service and affordable payment plans.
Very friendly and helpful staff. This place was easy to find and had large selection of instruments.
Very helpful staff. Tried hard to help me wigh an almost impossible misdion and told me to call them in a week or two for posdibly more help.
My son buys all of his music equipment here.
This place used to be very friendly and musicians dream to come in. Now it’s full of a bunch of butt heads. I Won’t Go Back
My son’s band director recommended this place. Staff was nice, and allowed my son to try out a couple of instruments. However, when I mentioned we wanted to do rent to own, they said they no longer do that. We could essentially only purchase outright or finance. When I asked about discounts, I was told they don’t do discounts, but it would be cheaper to just buy the instrument outright. As of today, they still have the rent to own program advertised on their website, along with discounts and advantages of the program, which is the main reason we made the 1.5 hour drive. I also found the exact same instrument for over $200 cheaper somewhere else. People seem nice, but this was really disappointing. Please don’t advertise if you can’t offer it.
Rip off & don’t know measurements for nuts/ saddle’s probably anything just a store that takes suckers for a ride
9. Bailey Brothers Music Company
Address: 4673 US-280 Suite # 7, Birmingham, AL 35242 , Goodwater , Alabama , United States
Went to look for Double bass drum pedals. The initial phone call, drums guy was polite, explained and answered questions in a manner that didnt feel rushed or annoyed. Off to the store. The Drums guy showed me their selection and prices, explained a little about each set then backed off and let me make a decision without the classic Guitar Center upsell attempt “just buy this one because [ insert cheesy sell line here] “. Dude that spoke volumes about this store, they werent watching people like police, *cough* Guitar center *cough* they have a better product than other stores in particular the Mapex $119 double bass set has better reviews and looks more sturdy than the Mapex double bass pedals sold at GC for $129 on sale at time of this review for $119. Then on to sticks, again took time to understand what i wanted and what i was desiring to recommend the right product and not the top dollar one! Now off to the front counter, set my stuff down at the reg and told them i was going to wait because i also needed guitar strings. I naturally went for Ernie Ball, but the cashier guy began to tell me about different brand he uses, explained why and also hit all the issues with strings i was having on the head. Its nice to go to music store where people are actually musicians and know what theyre talking about and selling. I definitely will be back. AND i definitely will tell anyone who asks about a music store about them!
My daughter has taken drum lessons at Bailey Brothers for over nine months now. We could not be happier. The customer service we receive from the front desk is wonderful, and her teacher, Leif, is so nice and is an excellent drummer and instructor. The price for their lessons is very competitive, and they are conveniently located. I couldn’t ask for more!
Great place to purchase.
Usually get good service, but I took my guitar nut to be repaired after my guitar took a spill. I let them know the guitar had fallen and hoped they would fix. The nut was replaced poorly but the guitar had a buzz. Took it back 2 more times. The last visit, the person in charge of the repair (2 weeks later)said I had heavy fingers and raised the stings to a height that made the guitar unplayable. I took to another repair shop and they repaired the nut replaced by Bailey Brothers found a couple of uneven frets repaired the frets adjusted the neck and had to re-setup the guitar from the disaster repair at Bailey Brothers. If in need of repairs I will never return to this store.
It was my first time in the store and I had an excellent experience. David was very helpful and friendly as well as the other staff present. The online site lacks a lot of the guitars they have in stock because they get new guitars a lot so I would advise actually going into the store to see their wide selection.
Great customer service. Great selection. However, I was NOT thrilled to see their logo custom printed onto the snare head I bought. Would have received 5 stars if not for that. Going to remove it with some acetone.
Waited 15 minutes for someone to help me but instead was ignored. Ended up leaving empty handed. I literally just needed drumsticks and the person at the front was aware. Will never go back.
I came in here the other day and they were incredibly overbearing and checked in on me every 30 seconds. From the second I walked in they were all up in my face and insisted on providing an address and phone number whenever I paid which I fully expect to be sold somewhere. I don’t know if they’re struggling to keep the lights on or something but the amount of customer service was way too much and came across as pushy and rude. Literally just let me shop.
Dishonest, and disrespectful. While I’m aware they have an “all sales final” on used gear policy, it is their responsibility to properly inspect the gear they take in and not sell something that is damaged internally (in my case, a guitar amp). Idiot salesman also had a smug grin on his face the whole time my brother and I were having to deal with it (all 5-6 hours) and was making snooty comments back and forth. In a nut shell they sold me a dead amp and then laughed in my face about it. If this is how your business treats customers, don’t expect to be a business for long. I attempted a purchase with Bailey Brothers about 8 years ago. Was not a pleasant experience. This one wasn’t either. Rest assured, that’s it. I will not be back.
Update: Hey the owner called me just to prove they really do not care about customers. Tried to minimize what happened, and basically acted exactly like Keith did. Also a robotic “I apologize but we’re not going to do anything to fix it” does not count as rectifying anything. Gee wonder why the Southside store closed! Oh yeah and if you have a bad experience with them and they don’t own up to it they’ll do like any typical teenager does and tries to badmouth you on Facebook, then stalk your page. Very mature. Screenshots are great though aren’t they?
PS: Oh and buddy, if I were mad and desperate to pay my rent, then why in the heck did I buy a $700 amp from you? Nice try.
10. Depot Gun & Pawn
Address: 3968 US-280, Alexander City, AL 35010 , Goodwater , Alabama , United States
Shop there Ali the time. Friendly service and great people
Easy to find and see from road when driving, easy access in and out. Dropped off my U Haul trailer, after unloading my load in a reasonable price storage unit to fit my load.
I’ve been accustomed to this place almost my whole life. the owner has somehow found a way to turn the business of pawnbroker into a shiny example of good in a sea of uncertainty.
The owner believes in hardworking, rewarding patriotism and tries to educate his patrons so they make positive business decisions.
I go as far as to say that depot’s gun and pawn is the best pawn shop that I’ve ever done business with in my entire life.
Has good prices on most everything
why are the French here
Pretty cool selection most days & reasonably priced.
I wanted to rent a truck or trailer from a different U-Haul location on Saturday, but that place was closed, so U-Haul called to tell me to go Depot Pawn. I said I didn’t want to rent from them and canceled the order, but time was running out to get anything from another place, so I ended up going there anyway, despite my better judgment telling me to delay until another day. Andy was nice when I picked up the trailer, and I told the woman there – his wife, I think – that I didn’t want the insurance because American Express would cover it. They charged me for insurance anyway. I had to keep the trailer two extra days because I had trouble with my truck, and when I called to tell Andy I was bringing it back, he gave me the total. I said it was wrong, but they wouldn’t fix it. I called U-Haul and was told they would call Depot to straighten it out, but he still overcharged me and was rude about it. I told him I’d told the woman I didn’t want the insurance, but he refused to take it off and said it was between me and U-Haul, after the U-Haul rep already confirmed to me that I was being overcharged. Then he acted like he was doing me a favor by taking one day’s rental off because I was a little late bringing it back today. I said that was because I was on the phone with U-Haul disputing the charge, but he still acted like he was being nice. Not nice at all. I don’t appreciate being conned and then treated rudely. This is why I didn’t want to go to Depot in the first place. I don’t like dealing with pawn shops and don’t want to give them my money. I’ll never rent anything at Depot Gun & Pawn again, and I sure won’t ever go there to buy anything.
They beat me out of a $130 on storage fee
This business is not the one you want to shop at. I have tried to go by this place 4 times to purchase a barrel. The 4th visit someone was finally there. But apparently they will lock the door on you even when you have been in their lot for 10 minutes looking at said product. When knocking on door I was told by the staff that they close at 12:00 on Saturday. It was 12:02. To come back when they are open. Apparently they are only open 10:30 to 12:00 on Saturdays. Google says open Saturday’s till 5, you would assume they would be open. But apparently they will lock the door in your face. Not the kind of place I want to spend my money at.
