Bevon is a fantastic builder and awesome guy. I always take my Northfield mandolin and Bourgeois guitar to him for any fixes or just to check the set up and make sure everything is looking good and feeling good before busy weekends playing shows.
Big Hollow Guitars are so beautiful and meticulously built. I’m blessed to have such a knowledgeable builder right here in Summit County.
I needed my Martin D-28 Standard setup and a strap button put on the neck. I contacted Bevan at Big Hollow Guitars with the issue. He had me in right away and did the work in front of me in 15 minutes. He also made sure I knew the dos and don’ts of owning a high end guitar in a high altitude extremely dry environment. On top of that, he gave me a look at his current projects. I had a great experience and will most definitely send my instruments to him in the future.
Amazing customer service!
This is someone’s house in a neighborhood and not a music or guitar store. Many home (music) businesses sneak their way onto Google maps and it wastes the time and money of people who need to purchase something quickly in a store.
If it is not a storefront, it should not be on Google maps because people waste their time navigating to places which they cannot enter, despite the location being advertised as a location you can drive to, and “open.” I needed picks and strings.
To the owner:
You should advertise this business on appropriate channels like social media and Google Search. Not Google Maps because you are not a storefront. Is your home zoned as a business location? That is what you are communicating with this time wasting listing. Good luck.
5. Brightwood Music, llc
Address: 20 E Lakeview Dr #109, Nederland, CO 80466 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
Doug has always been super sweet and helpful. He restrung my guitar several times and Nederland is lucky to have all the stellar services offered right in our cute and cozy town.
wow! such an amazing music shop and a talented luthier. I really appreciate their help repairing my banjo
I was not necessarily planning on buying an instrument while on a roadtrip with an already packed car. But the owner is a great guy and the shop has a great collection of instruments so I couldn’t resist packing the car up just a little more!
Absolutely rude and awful shop keep. “Just leave me alone ” is not what one expects when inquiring about a guitar. Came in looking for a mandolin and had to leave right away. Very upsetting. Never visiting again.
Drove 600 miles to buy a uke from this guy. He was in the middle of a lesson when we walked in and was immediately peeved. I picked up the uke from the bottom shelf and it slid out of my fingers 4″ to the floor. He barked, “Be careful!”. We walked out.
6. Affordable Music
Address: 104 Village Pl, Dillon, CO 80435 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
Had a great experience here. Shane is very calm and helpful. They restrung my husband’s guitar and cleaned it up for me same day. Actually within 2 hours. It sounds and looks great again! Very affordable too! My husband was very happy when I delivered his “surprise”. Thank you!
I also got some piano sheet music for $2.
great record store not far off I – 70. I was on a snowboarding vacation and Affordable Music was on my way back to my motel in Leadville. So I stopped in and found some gems on vinyl. Motown, 4 Seasons, and Julie London albums. Owner, Gary was totally cool and gave me a real great deal on the 4 albums. Was very helpful in trying to find cardboard box for the records for my return flight back home. Plus he had a real friendly dog too!.All kinds of music formats to choose from.
Limited selection, average prices
Great store, lots of music, plenty of stringed instruments.
Surprisingly good 45 selection.
Owner is a racist. He harassed my friend for shopping while black , four times AFTER he bought a CD. We went outside and had to show the police his recite.
Great place to shop if you are worried someone is impersonating you. Don’t shop there if you are black, he might call the cops.
Terrible customer service. Was out of town for a wedding – asked about return policy and he went on a rant about him being a small business and how he would only give store credit. He was very condescending and unprofessional
A shambles. Nothing affordable. Maybe okay for guitars, but not music. Looks like a yard sale gone bad. Used vinyl is poor quality, C- vinyl and covers disorganized and twice the price of Denver. Boxes of unsorted records strewn about. New stuff is full list price. Not worth the effort of stopping. Waste of time
7. Eagle Wind Sound
Address: 78878 US-40, Winter Park, CO 80482 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
We had an amazing time recording our second album at this studio and travelled from Seattle to do so. PJ and Tony made the space so comfortable and inviting for us and were so friendly and easy to work with. Even though we had a lot to get done in a short amount of time we never felt rushed. We were really impressed with the quality of sound they were able to produce and they had excellent equipment to work with. Overall we were really pleased with our experience here and would definitely love to work with Eagle Wind Sound again.
This studio is beautiful and relaxing. I have listened to many artists creating and honing their craft, and each one is inspirational and moving. Eagle Wind Sound brings out the creativity in each artist. The owners really love what they do and it is obvious that they are experts in their field. I love this place!
Amazing studio with a couple of amazing guys running it, in one of the most beautiful places in the world to fill your heart with inspiration. We have recorded many songs at Eagle Wind Sound and have plans to do many more. If you are looking to grow or expand your music this is the place for you. I would recommend this studio to anybody and everybody from your local musician to national touring acts.
Gorgeous place!
8. Nick Steingart Music
Address: Big Horn Rd, Vail, CO 81657 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
I had the pleasure of listening to Nick play at the Red Lion last week. WOW! Amazing musician, very versatile but really delivered with a shine when playing some of the folk / classic rock stuff. I threw him a few curve ball requests, all which were delivered with grace and passion. Keep it up, mate! Hope to see you around when we visit Vail again.
A great apes singer!!
9. The Phat Bear
Address: 160 E Elkhorn Ave, Estes Park, CO 80517 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
Must visit shop in Estes park. The quality of the product, especially sweatshirts and t-shirts, is amazing.
This stores has loads of vinyl. They used to have more music memorabilia and trinkets. Besides CDs and vinyl you can get tshirts, Star Wars and Dr. Who collectibles, and other cool stuff.
Mostly merch, but not as much “music”
Meh…
Disappointed. Turned into all the stores around it. Plus, now selling African dwarf frogs in boxes, probably not even 3 gallons. They need AT LEAST 20 gallons. And no filters, no heaters, no hides. I’m surprised those poor things are still alive.
Not really a record store. Lots of campy stuff.
Very rude employee lady kicking kids out for quietly trying on the masks. Thanks for ruining everyone’s day.
10. North by North Recording Studio
Address: 448 Co Rd 647 B772, Grand Lake, CO 80447 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
Specialized store focusing on educational music needs in the way of instrument rentals and supplies. Very individualized service over the years.
Very helpful and timely service with exactly the right music books. Thanks!!
This is my first stop for those times when my kids need sheet music or supplies for their instruments Their selection is beyond belief, and their staff is extremely helpful. If I’m looking for something, even if I have a lot of questions about it, they’ll take the time to answer my questions until I know I’m making the right decision.
While I don’t have these needs currently, based on how the staff has worked with me so far, I believe Lafayette music would also be my first choice for instrument rentals and purchases. They have an incredible selection, and their prices are more than reasonable. I know if I had any questions or concerns, they’d make sure to stick with me until I was completely satisfied. That’s not something you get at every music store, but its here!
Very wide variety of sheet music and instruments. The new location is a little tight, but it’s nice to still have them around.
Little music store where you can find mostly everything you need. Most of the employees are nice and helpful for a small store.
Not bad for the only music store in Lafayette
The owner was rude. I was trying to rent an instrument for my child for school. I felt like they were annoyed with my questions. It seemed that me trying to give them some business was an inconvenience to them. I will not go back.
I cannot believe how much this place had gone downhill in the past year. The owner refuses to wear a mask even after asked even though there is a legal mandate in place. The blatant disrespect that I was greeted with was just insane. The guy at the front register took an hour to get my instrument contract for repairs because he kept helping other people. I was also refused a nice loaned instrument and was given a terrible one.The older woman also kept giving me a nasty side eye. I’m not sure if my appearance has anything to do with how I was treated, but I would not doubt it at all. When I was told my instrument would be sent out for repairs they told me it would be back on the next Tuesday. They then promptly forgot to send out my instrument even after trusting them to get it back in time for advanced music courses at school. When I called ahead to see if it was there and ready to be picked up I told them it was in a BRIGHT PINK CASE. They didn’t look for it and told me it was there. Therefor wasting my gas, time, and patience. Thats when I found out that they forgot to send it out. I’m now on the verge of paying for another month of paying for a rental so I have an instrument to play because they can’t do their jobs. I will be switching music companies and I would suggest anyone who reads this to do the same. The stupidity and disrespect is too much to handle anymore and I am sick of it.
I can not believe the level of disrespect I received by attempting to shop in your store. You really should pack up and move out of town. You are only here to exploit the student musicians without supporting the actual musical community. The musicians in this community deserve a much better experience than that which is received from your failing business. Horrible!! So much for supporting local business. You should feel shame.
12. Lone Wolf Guitars
Address: 3735 Beaver Brook Canyon Rd, Evergreen, CO 80439 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
Friendly family-owned music store. The young lady restrung my guitar while I waited because I told her I was heading back to Denver the next morning. Good prices, too.
Been buying guitars and ukelele here for 8 years . Can’t ask for more from these guys locally. They do everything they can for us .
A great locally owned music store with instruments and a great selection of used vinyl!
Tons of awesome used CDs and vinyl.
I have purchased a few guitars from here.I love thats it is community owned, the owner works the counter most days, he is a good guy who lives to share his passion of music
Also has a great record selection for sale!
I didn’t go here for the selection of musical instruments, but they do have quite a bit. I went here to dive into their record bins. They have a pretty good selection at reasonable prices. Check it out if you are in town!
14. James Davis Music
Address: 67 Diamond Vw Rd, Estes Park, CO 80517 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
James played at our wedding at the Stanley this past May and was absolutely wonderful. He was very aware of our needs and easy to work with. He was unobtrusive at the wedding and provided beautiful musical accompaniments to the ceremony and affair. We would highly recommend him.
If you need a guitarist for your event, look no further! James performed for our wedding ceremony in Estes Park and was amazing. He was extremely responsive, accommodating, and played beautifully. His options for songs were endless and he even offered to learn new songs if necessary, but he has so many beautiful options this wasn’t needed. We’re thankful to have found him!
James Davis was a wonderful addition to our daughter’s wedding last week at the Overlook Chapel at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado. He was great to work with in offering music suggestions and selections. James arrived early and was able to help us start the ceremony early due to weather conditions. Most importantly, his guitar music was beautiful and perfect for the wedding. We only wish that time had permitted us to listen to more of his wonderful music in the mountains.

15. Eagle Valley Music & Comics
Address: 211 Main St, Minturn, CO 81645 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
Weather changed our plans so we ended up in this little store. We were welcomed by a friendly lady who showed us around thru the stocks. Loads of boxes, all new records, lots of RSD items, well organized by date. The lady and her son are running the store and were very friendly and interested.
Best record store I’ve ever been too
Very friendly and knowledgeable! I always enjoy stopping in to browse and chat
Conan comics!
I walked into this little comic shop and I was definitely excited to see the number of comic books they had available. The guy who handles the comics there asked what I was looking for and I told him. At which point he went to the back to browse through his piles and piles of books to find what I had told him I was in search of. After locating some of the books I wanted/needed, he proceeded to pull up eBay for the current prices that the books were being sold for. Needless to say, my excitement quickly subsided. IF I WANTED TO SHOP ON EBAY, I’D DO IT FROM THE COMFORT OF MY OWN HOME! The guy who handles the comics clearly doesn’t realize the point of going into a LCS; which is to find those HTF/Rare/Unique hidden gems. Anybody can pay top dollar for those books, they simply need to do exactly what he did…go online! Now if the “Jonah Hill in 40 Year Old Virgin” moment wasn’t bad enough, I decided to ask about some modern issues that I needed and would be willing to pay cover for. After looking through about 1 and a half stacks of books (maybe 100 or so comics), the guy says to me “oh, those are in storage”…..for every book I bring up after. Storage being that back room and according to him, 500k books upstairs. I don’t doubt he has that many up there, seeing as how he’s asking top dollar for every book and it’s apparently too much effort to go into the back room or upstairs to locate what the customer is asking for. I was prepared to look through his collection and spend an absurd amount of money when I walked in there, but in the end, I paid him $20 for about 5 cover price moderns. My guess is the 4.9 stars this place currently has must be based on the vinyl part of the store (which did look impressive), but as far as the comic book section goes, stay home, sit in your favorite recliner, kick your feet up, crack a beer, pull up eBay and shop to your hearts content. It sure as hell beats driving to Minturn, CO for what I experienced. You ever even heard of Minturn!? Yeah, me neither, and I’m from Colorado!
Not very customer friendly
I asked about certain comics and was basically denied because they were “too expensive “
And was referred to the “affordable “ box
He kept bragging about the amount of comics he had stocked in the back and wouldn’t even let me and my brother look at them
The store was extremely cluttered and unorganized.
I would not recommend shopping here what so ever
16. Jensen Guitars
Address: 360 Main St, Longmont, CO 80501 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
Best place in town for sure. Jensens always has a good amount of very reasonably priced and worth while instruments. Great customer service too.
Took my guitar in, and they dropped what they were doing to pay attention to me and fix it❤️
They have more than just guitars they also sell wind instruments and string instruments
Bought the tool I need next in my grand plan. 5 string Bass. It’s a pretty beauty.
Good people knowledgeable, highly recommend
I walked into this store today for the first time, didn’t even realize it was there before (I haven’t lived in longmont for almost 10 years but I visit family there frequently) so I thought I’d check it out. I came through the door to what seemed like the owner of the shop having a conversation with one of his employees. They initially acknowledge me and quickly said hello before going back to a heated conversation about what seemed to be the employees incompetence. This is a very small store, so I was inevitably able to hear the entire conversation whether it was of interest to me or not. I picked up a few guitars, played one or two, and I made a full circle around the store checking out the inventory before I walked out unnoticed after 10 minutes or so. Not once was I spoken to, but I was able to gain some insight about the employee and his peremptory store owner. It appears there had been a customer service issue and the employee was unable to accomplish something for a customer due to his lack of knowledge and confidence with the point of sale system. The manager then proceeded to train his employee as he made several comments about the store computer being nothing like his at home and that he didn’t understand the system. As a retail manager myself, I have an above average understanding (at the very least) of what good customer service in a properly managed business should look like. I’m writing this review less in distaste at the fact that I was not engaged by either of you in your store, but because I am a supporter of local businesses and I enjoy seeing them thrive in my hometown. Employees should be coached away from the vicinity of customers, and EVERY customer should be greeted and engaged if you expect your business to succeed. I didn’t need to hear your conversation, but I did, and my advice for you would be to let that particular employee go – he is old and unable to adapt to the point of sale system you have in place, and he doesn’t seem to have a basic instinct for customer service.
They didn’t communicate with me and made me wait a month for a simple violin repair. The repair also wasn’t done well and had to be brought back days later to have bridge fixed again. Days later it only broke yet again……
Great place if you are looking for a cheap jangly Chinese made guitar. Spend a few minutes with the owner so he can brag about his skills and insult your intelligence!
17. Virada Drums
Address: 4919 Broadway Unit 17, Boulder, CO 80304 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
The most variety of authentic imported drums available in the U.S! All the best brands of instruments from Brazil from so many musical traditions. Samba, samba reggae, forró, maracatu, etc. Master drummer and expert advice. Carl knows his drums!
Helpful and wide selection
Virada Drums is the home for all things Brazilian percussion. The shop has a great selection of drums and auxiliary percussion from the best brands in Brazil, and the website has awesome resources for studying the music! Carl is an ambassador for the Boulder-Brazil connection and will surely guide you in a great direction.
Super confusing called and drove around knocked on the door but no answer. Really strange. Went to the drum shop and spent 220$ on a super big jimba! Asked people at surrounding shops and in the parking lot and people painting the outside and every one said I don’t know. So weird no sing or nothing.
18. Wind Over the Earth
Address: 614 Kimbark St, Longmont, CO 80501 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
Great customer service. You can go and play the instruments to try them.
Very helpful and friendly!
I may have never purchased anything from this store, but they have a kickass mural of a gorilla playing a Flying V on the side of the building and it rules. The gorilla is probably playing “Cemetery Gates” by Pantera at full blast.
Nice store!
W H A T ?? I can’t hear you !! Lol. Yeah it sounds good . ha ha .
Customer service is absolutely awful. The rudest staff I have ever had to deal with. They are so pompous and rude I am sad I gave them my money. If you aren’t knowledgeable about music DONT GO HERE, the staff is terrible to customers who don’t know music. I would recommend taking your business elsewhere or just shopping online. Not one member of the staff is nice and helpful, worst musical experience ever!
Some nice people working at this store, but unfortunately the guitar tech with the beard is so rude, egotistical, mean, and basically the opposite of customer service, that I would not be able to make any major purchases from this store. I certainly would not let them lay hands on any of my instruments. Fine if you want some strings or picks, but if you ask for a serious recommendation, you will likely be insulted rather than given any useful help. Unfortunately for the owner, guitar techs at any level are hard to fine. If you don’t like your job bro, quit and get a new job, it’s nobody’s fault except your own. Music is a social hobby, so maybe it’s just not for you.
Terrible service. Always regret spending money there because of the service.
20. Wildwood Guitars
Address: 500 S Arthur Ave STE 700, Louisville, CO 80027 , Grand County , Colorado , United States
I ordered a relatively expensive used instrument from Wildwood not knowing them at all and they were an absolute pleasure to work with at every step in the process. There was a problem with my order (due to no fault on their part) and they were helpful in getting it resolved immedately. I’m totally satisfied with their service, support, and attitude. I would most surely do business with them again.
I felt compelled to share a little note about my fantastic experiences with Wildwood Guitars. About a year back, I was looking for a very special guitar and was a bit nervous about purchasing a guitar over the internet. However, when I called Wildwood to speak to someone I was fortunate enough to get Justin. Justin was absolutely like my brother from another mother. He was extraordinarily helpful, kind and even offered to play several of the guitars and let me know which was his favorite. A day later, a Fender Custom shop Guitar arrived and it was exceptional. Literally blew me away. Best Strat ever.
So I decided about a year later to check them out for a Les Paul. They are one of the largest dealers of Gibson LP’s and when I called, I got Steve, the owner. He took a lot of time to speak with me and shared a lot of great stories about Les Pauls and how he personally selected some of the tops for his Wildwood Selects. I purchased a nice USA Standard and the Guitar showed up a day later and was amazing. Fit and finish on his Wildwood select USA models is beyond anything I could have expected for a non custom shop rig.
This week, I was working with the team to help me find the perfect custom shop Les Paul and they made my experience beyond great.
I work in sales myself and to say that this company works hard to ensure that the clients needs are met would be an understatement. They are the best guitar shop out there and if you are reading this and considering doing business with Steve, Justin and their great team, you should feel good because you will be as impressed as I have been with the experience. Thank you guys for reminding me that quality still exists. You guys ROCK.
The showroom is closed and their business is now fully online (which I completely missed in the Google overview!). But the owner, Steve, greeted my son and I at the door when I approached to read the sign indicating the closure. Steve was incredibly helpful and directed us to the right resource for what we needed (a good starter bass for a child). Despite a trek out to a closed showroom, he actually saved us a lot of time and hassle! When my son graduates to something higher end, I will call on Wildwood
I love WW GUITARS and have bought over 25 guitars from them. Almost every guitar I’ve purchased over 20+ yrs (ranging from Taylor t5, Martin D18 to Gibson ES 335) has been exquisite. And the ones that have not been so Stellar, WW has worked with me until I’m happy.
Since COVID however, the buying experience from them has faded considerably and I’m afraid that they have become another Sweetwater. I have tried to communicate with them and have supported them with strong appreciation and customer loyalty only to feel like just another customer. Customer service, tech service, appointment scheduling is now geared towards online sales and true customers that highly value the buying experience have been ignored. I have referred countless new customers to them and feel as though my staunch loyalty to this brand has gone unnoticed/ ignored.
Sadly, I have recently began to branch out and my last few purchases have not be with WW. I hope they continue to sell top notch instruments and am still hopeful that they can correct these issues and reach out too old school customers too.
They don’t do setups on your guitar yet they have a warehouse full of guitars? Great selection and very knowledgeable.
Info per my call to the store today:
-There is no showroom and the store is not open to the public. They will likely never have a showroom ever again
– all sales staff work from home
– It is a warehouse and if you want to try a guitar, you have to know the specific guitar and they will bring it to you to play on the *sidewalk*
Have been a fan of Wildwood for years with their YouTube videos with Greg Koch. Pretty disappointed to try to visit while on tour only to find the business description is misleading. It’s an online store only.
Shop closed its in store experience for covid and never re-opened. They essentially just became like Amazon, embracing a business model to kill brick and mortar in person shopping which is a tragedy for the acoustic guitar world. Used to be a 5 star store… now they’re worse than guitar center.
I started going there back in 2001 and have previously purchased four guitars from them over the years along with a DR Z Amp and numerous other goodies. The first being a Martin 00-15, then a Gretsch G6120 1959 in Lacquer both many moons ago. Then shortly thereafter one of first thin skin ’50s White Blonde Telecasters. And a little over two years ago a Brad Paisley Tele. I attempted to by another Telecaster this week and for lack of better words became very frustrated
You see, I used to go down to the shop as I only live about an hour up the road. Life happens you get busy and lately it’s been over the phone and online as free shipping and a lesser tax rate is better for me. I dealt mostly with Steve, Bruce and then Lance the last couple of times and they are all good people and made sure I was taken care of no matter in person or on the phone. I wanna say that after every conversation I have every had with Steve he makes you feel like a King and I know it’s not just for me as I have witnessed him many times treat everyone that way.
So why am I frustrated? It shouldn’t take 4 days to get a guitar in a box and out the door. I spoke with an Ian on day one to be informed that it was scheduled to ship in 4 days and if I wanted it by Christmas I would have to pay for extra shipping. I was with a customer on the side of the road helping them not be stranded so I quickly told him I didn’t need extra shipping and left it at that as I needed to get my work done. Day 2, I emailed to try and get a better understanding and dealt with a John that simply offered up excuses and just wanted to tell me how busy they were. So I got to thinking about all this and emailed them to cancel the order. I got an email back that now I was being pushed ahead of 11 other customers and the guitar would go out a day earlier if I didn’t want it set-up. This got me thinking even more, and I even wondered about the fact that this Tele was a very inexpensive guitar by their standards so maybe that’s why my order was being pushed back for some reason.
I’ve heard rumors that ownership has changed. I don’t know. I do know if Wildwood has become so busy that It takes them 4 days to put a guitar in a box and ship to a long time local customer an hour away they don’t need my business anymore.
Wish my experience had gone something like these reviews. They should too as it could easily have resulted in a sale but, no, not the case.
I walked in and told the person that unenthusiastically greeted me I was looking at a Collings O2H in the $3000 range and wanted to see if they had something comparable. He said “We have over 2,000 guitars.” Uh, okay. I answered but anything similar like a 00 Martin for example? He led me to a computer screen and invited me to peruse their “over 2,000 guitar” inventory, find what I wanted and he’d bring it out then walked away. Zero guidance. Didn’t make it through the first page of Martins before walking out.
Before the day was over I returned to the store carrying the Collings, wrote a check for just under $3,000 and drove home.
I understand Wildwood changed owners so perhaps this is their new business model and, hey, it may work out for them but if I’m dropping three grand or more on a guitar I expect service which I found plenty of at the three other stores I visited.
