We visited for the first time last week. These folks are awesome! My 16 year old son is taking up electric guitar. They are so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Awesome staff. Great vibe
Nice selection of new and used guitars. Needs a jam space though..
Friendly staff they have a few harmonicas
Great people and fair prices. Support your local music store!
I bought a guitar for $2,875 from this shop online and they listed it as mint condition. I had to take it to a local luthier to have the frets polished because they were so dirty the guitar was unplayable. The shop refused to even split the cost ($50), wow! Incredible.
I will never set foot in this place again. Not that they will care. Thought I would give it another chance after several years. Nothing has changed so now I know for sure.
Accused me of taking out a screw, when all I asked was for the value of what it would cost to fix that. I fixed it myself 16$ out of my own pocket for a new screw, set of strings, and labor on my workbench at home. I thought about going to small claims court, for not selling me a guitar in the condition they claimed on reverb. I’d been looking for this guitar for a while, I didn’t want to just return it. I just wanted it in the condition that I saw it in and felt insulted when they instantly made me out to be at fault even after sending pictures moments after receiving it from UPS and to top it off I even have video of when I first opened it on the CCTV at work. Overall poor online experience.
2. Ian Sturrock Memorial Pipe Band
Address: 2501 Sweeney Hollow Rd, Birmingham, AL 35215 , Grayson Valley , Alabama , United States
Very knowledgeable and helpful. They had strings for a 1/8 violin we had been looking all over town for. Definitely the place to go in town if u need items for string instruments other than guitars.
The staff are super knowledgeable and very friendly. They have a great selection of products.
Everything a student needs to sharpen their craft.
Always have a good experience at Arts. They work well with the school programs and if they don’t have what we need they are sure to find it
It’s nice that stores like Art’s are still around.
Good. place to shop for all your. music. needs.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT rent instruments from here. All they want is your $$$. I can’t begin to tell you what a nightmare it had been renting our child’s instrument from them this year for school. I wish I could give negative stars. The breaking point was last week when we returned the instrument but was charged another $90 for the month of June. ITS NOT JUNE yet!!!!!!
Schools have no business partnering with companies like this!
SCAM! Just buy an instrument off Amazon with Affirm or some other if you need to make payments. The markup isn’t justified by the TERRIBLE and antiquated policies and customer service.
AVOID! THIS IS A SCAM!
Be a good place for a music shop that sales and buy instruments but they can’t do anything but sale with out the manager so if u need to sale something don’t go here
9. Highland Music
Address: 3000 Clairmont Ave, Birmingham, AL 35205 , Grayson Valley , Alabama , United States
After checking out every music store in the Birmingham area I found Highland Music to have the coolest atmosphere and selection of guitars. I fell in love with a vintage archtop here and Don agreed to a very reasonable price after seeing how much I enjoyed playing it. I left feeling completely satisfied with my purchase. This is my top choice in Birmingham and I will definitely be coming back.
Gotta catch the right people in.. but good little music store..
Prices depend on who is working that day.$10.00/$6.95 for percussion sticks.
If you love music and you need an instrument repair this place is a definite gem.
Let’s just say that my kind ain’t welcome
I guess they have some unique items which is cool but the folks behind the counter really seemed like they were annoyed to put their conversation on hold in order to help me and were also EXTREMELY condescending and pretentious. I’m a fairly experienced musician and these guys spoke to me as if I was completely ignorant and always would be.
Pretty darn rude staff, including the owner, Don. After 40 years in business I guess they’ve earned the right, though.
I had an absolutely great experience in this huge, well-stocked store. Salesperson, Erskine, was awesome. No pressure, very helpful, patiently letting me try out one guitar after another to make sure I was happy with the amp.
I could have bought this on-line and had it shipped for free and saved $85 in taxes – but I felt the experience was worth paying a little more, and worth supporting a local (non-chain) business.
There are some negative reviews here. I’m sure with doing a lot of sales and service, someone won’t be happy. But I did not experience anything but great gear, and a helpful no-pressure salesman.
I mean come on it’s Bailey Brothers. Excellent service better people.
We love Bailey Brothers. They are personable, they have good prices, and they fix you up with everything you need. If you’re in the market for a guitar, be sure to ask for Joseph.
I needed to buy instruments for my Middle School kids. They were very upfront with their prices and seemed to have the best deals.
Great customer service. Great selection. However, I was NOT thrilled to see their logo custom printed onto the snare head I bought. Would have received 5 stars if not for that. Going to remove it with some acetone.
It was my first time in the store and I had an excellent experience. David was very helpful and friendly as well as the other staff present. The online site lacks a lot of the guitars they have in stock because they get new guitars a lot so I would advise actually going into the store to see their wide selection.
Waited 15 minutes for someone to help me but instead was ignored. Ended up leaving empty handed. I literally just needed drumsticks and the person at the front was aware. Will never go back.
I left my guitar with this store in February 2012 for a simple repair. In June it was still hanging waiting for them to repair. I had been told on multiple occasions that it would be ready in just a few days. I picked it up today June 24, 2012 and no repair has been done and I was still charged a bench fee. This place sucks. I will never go in there again. Good luck if you do.
I explained to them thoroughly what I needed and they sold me the opposite! It all about sells and f**k the customers needs! Stay away from the southside location!
14. FREESTYLE PERCUSSION FOUNDATION
Address: 2010 Old Springville Rd # 124, Birmingham, AL 35215 , Grayson Valley , Alabama , United States
Best place ever. My son takes drum lessons here.
Lessons prices are reasonable.
Freestyle Drumline is Free training on Sundays for young ladies and gentlemen
15. So Be It Entertainment
Address: 5 23rd Ave NW, Center Point, AL 35215 , Grayson Valley , Alabama , United States
I took a 2008 Gibson LP in for a level and re-crown, they did a great job like brand new plays like butter. Will definitely be using them again. It is great to know we have a great instrument repair in Birmingham, no need to go to Atlanta or Nashville. Thanks!
Knowledgeable and friendly. Loved it!
As always a wonderful place to do business with !
Good product, Good service.
Friendly atmosphere and lots of instruments.
I’ve never dealt with someone so rude over the phone. The owner tried to guilt me with sarcasm and acted like victim when I questioned a price. Full story: I asked to order a cello string. All was going well (owner answered questions about speed of shipping and availability of the string), but then he quoted a price ($81) that was far above what other shops charge. I said respectfully that “I’ve purchased the string for $45 at other walk-in shops” and he became sarcastic and argumentative with me, claiming he was “holding my hand” through the process, and said “Well, I have to pay $35 for this string so what do YOU think is fair for ME to make? $15? What is 35 + 15, huh? Ohhh, maybe $50 is more than you can afford?” A simple, “well this is my price” would have been fine as a response from him, but I felt disrespected so I hung up and decided I’m never going to spend a dime Homewood Musical Instrument Co. I advise everyone else to steer clear of this shop and the guy who owns it.
17. Pee Wee’s Pawn Shop
Address: 5712 Chalkville Rd, Birmingham, AL 35235 , Grayson Valley , Alabama , United States
The service was great and I will be sure to recommend Pee Wee’s to my friends.
Excellent customer service nice personality
I had a great experience stopping by today to sell my little used go pro. They were kind and despite never being a previous customer, they made me feel as though I had been in terms of how polite and friendly they were. The two women on top of the kindness they showed, gave me the exact amount I wanted to sell my product for. Thank you!
Highest payout on gold I’ve found.
Clean.
They always have great stuff! I love going in there and digging through the video games like a crazed monkey. I also like how friendly they are. I have not met the manager, but everyone there has been great!
Awful customer service by one employee. The manager or so called manager in Trussville. The way she has handled an issue is embarrassing. Customer service 101 is definitely something I recommend. Now the other 2 employees are excellent to work with and have you best interest at heart. They are not liars I would do business with Pee wees again as long as (the so called manager) does not handle any thing of mine ever again.
I just think if I handled sales like she did I would not have 1 customer and/or a JOB. DALE Carnegie how to win friends and influence people could help her out. Later.
Rude. Can’t juggle the 3 customers in the store individually. Yells at you from afar only to tell you the items you selected to bring in are garbage.
Hung up in my face. Unprofessional. Whoever answered needs to be fired immediately
18. ChillZone Recordingz
Address: 1430 Gadsden Hwy Ste 116, Birmingham, AL 35235 , Grayson Valley , Alabama , United States
Thanks so much. Very friendly and helpful when it came to buying my sons first electric guitar.
Very friendly staff. Quality products.
Very helpful helping pick out my husband Xmas gift, he loved it
Very helpful staff.
They have most things you’d need for music
Bought a cajón the staff was really helpful and friendly.
I guess they do not care about selling guitars at this location. I just walked in to this store ready to spend atleast 400 bucks on a new acoustic guitar and I was not spoken to one time by anyone that works there. Not even greeted. The store had maybe 5 customers total in there at the time and the employees were just standing around talking to each other by the counter or playing the guitars themselves. They will not get my money. Not that they care. Going somewhere else.
This place is horrible I have been there 3 times to actually buy something. No customer service they ignore you. I had to walk to the register where 3 associates were standing around talking. They only had the floor item in stock. I’m not buying anything from the floor ever again. I bought a guitar there and they didn’t even have the box. I will take my business to a locally owned store that understands customer service.
Well, what do you expect out of Walmart…??? You know what you want, you know how much it is, you know you’re getting better price than anywhere else… So you go in, grab it, pay for it and get out. That’s what this place is. If you’re expecting any kind of customer service, this is not a place for you…!!!
I mean they hardly have anything good anymore, either. No wonder they’re $ billions in debt.
I strongly advise you to stay away from this store and go to locally owned music stores such as Guitar Gallery, Highland Music, Bailey Brothers, etc., etc. You’d be treated like a customer at those stores and makes you feel good to spend your hard earned money at those stores…!!!
