Pros: I just moved here and was told by a guitar center employee that Flores music down the road has the best guy around to diagnose a problem I have with my very expensive guitar. Three shops had tried and failed at this point. I wish I could remember the technicians name; it started with a “j” I know, he takes one look at the guitar and checks a couple things. He then tells me that the problem is easily fixed. I tell him I’ve heard that before. But while I waited he fixed the buzzing problem and even corrected a couple other things that were bad. I’ve never had a guitar play this well ever! The con is when I was done thanking the savior of my taylor guitar a man from the store got mad at me for peeking my head in the shop to talk to the technician who I am trusting with my guitar. Sorry Flores music for bothering you with my business. Great repairs and lousy customer relations.

I have bought $1,000’s worth of stuff from this place. I always have felt like I had been treated fairly and given a good deal. I have even taken some of my stuff in to have it repaired and cleaned. I bought a fantastic pair of speakers no one has heard of and that have a goofy connection on the back. I went in and spoke with them about it and decided to try banana plugs. I was under the impression that if it didn’t work I could bring it back in and return it. So my wife stops in with the original receipt and in the original packaging (unopened) and they refuse to give our money back. In store credit is all I can get. It’s terrible business practice and I should have been told up front that they would not except the return, especially since I had been talking to them about what I was doing. I will from now on do my business elsewhere.
Last year my son was supposed to be getting a pretty nice Fender Telecaster, which they said would be held on to for us until we saved up enough money for it. However, they ended up selling it to someone else. I will never step foot in this store again.
Don’t buy anything from them, nobody there competent enough to know what they are selling

This place is wonderful they have a great selection and the guy whose name I wish i could remember was so sweet and patient setting up my daughter with a rental cello.
This is probably one of the nicest music shops I’ve ever walked into. I’m primarily a rock and funk musician, but I definitely appreciate orchestral and classical music. Everything there is very high quality. It would be cool if they bolstered their intro Rock section with some Squier Starter packs. Anywho, I did pick up a “Easy Pop Melodies for Bass” book. The staff was nice and friendly. For kids or adults who are in ensembles this is the place.

PM music is a pleasure to rent from. The customer service is fantastic. Their repair and replacement policy are a part of their already very reasonably priced rentals. My son had an issue and was in need of loaner and Jason went above and beyond.
Great place with very friendly staff members. They’re always willing to help. I used them for instrument rental for a couple of my kids.

I don’t know how this place has a bad review. I was a Steinway looking at self-playing piano’s and while cool, just couldn’t imagine spending $120K for a piano. We decided to check out some other places so decided to head to Naperville music. Met a guy named Nate and couldn’t be happier. His communication has been excellent, much better than Steinway! He is responsive and has been more than helpful. Truly wish you guys the best, your customer service is hands down the best I’ve ever seen. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Limited variety of student and mid-line guitars. They had a few higher end models, but the set up could stand improvement. Guitar Center has more guitars and lower prices, but NM is less crowded.
For higher end stuff I’d recommend trying Tobias in Downers Grove, or heading up to Evanston’s Guitar Works.
I have no regrets buying my guitar with you considering that Guitar center is closer to my place. I’m not after convenience but GREAT SERVICE which i have receive and Good Deal. I’m satisfied with my purchase and will come back again.
Terrible service, they purchased an old guitar from me, and refused to let me take the case, we never arranged them getting the case, also the staff is not very enthusiastic. No one seemed like they wanted to be there including me.
As soon as the piano teacher looked at me and my daughter the energy was wrong. I maintained a positive attitude…she swung the room door open 5 mins before my daughter’s lesson ended and started talking to me LOUD saying “your daughter is not supposed to be using THIS BOOK”. I kept trying to explain (again) how my daughter had taken a break in her lessons. Ms Allison KEPT cutting me off everytime I tried to speak. She did this after the lesson was over as well. Then, she kept hammering at my daughter telling her how impossible close to difficult it would be to re learn the notes. This lady took 1 look at us and assumed we were ignorant. She chose to be antagonizing instead of being a teacher. I don’t think she’s like this with everyone, picks n chooses.The energy of this place was nothing like this when Tracy works.
Don’t waste your money on this place, they never e-mailed me but they said they did to let me know, that my grandson piano teacher would no longer be their on the day his lessons were schedule. All they are worried about is the money!!!

Came in to get a tuning machine fixed on my bass. They had it taken care of very quickly and it was extremely affordable. The staff is also very knowledgeable and friendly.

These guys are crooks. Everything they sell is overpriced, and their services are terrible. I went in to install a new bridge pickup for my electric guitar, and they quoted an unreasonable price for the job. Since I was already there I figured whatever, go ahead. They estimated the job would take about 24 hours to complete. Little did I know “24 hours” meant a month and a half to them. I’m not even kidding. Every time I went in to the store to check, they yelled at me and said “there’s a guy who comes in to do the work, but he’s been just swamped lately. He’ll get it done when he gets a chance”. So 1.5 months later I receive a call, and it’s finally done. I go to pick up my guitar, and plug it in to one of their amps to check out how it sounds. It sounded like something was damaged in the guitar. I told them that there was something seriously wrong here, but they said it’s probably their amp and I should go home and check it out. I went home, plugged it in and it was messed up. It literally sounded like metal springs grinding against each other. The strangest noise I’ve ever heard from a guitar.
When I took the guitar back to them, they were incredibly rude and told me it was not their problem and the pickup was broken. So I was out $130, and left with a broken guitar. I ended up having to spend another $200 to get the whole thing back to playing condition.
I learned my lesson, and have warned all my friends against this store.

Got a “better than” feeling in there. Short, unhelpful answers for my 14 year old grandson.
unfortunate, but i’d had a guitar in storage for a year and the fret board was a disaster.they did an excellent job cleaning that, however, they took it upon themselves to badly alter the guitar without asking us despite us being there and only explained what they’d done after it was too late. another thing about these “fixes” was that they didn’t address the problem at all! they said the action was too high the lower you got on the neck so they shaved the frets?? they also took some off the bridge, though only to the top, not where the strings rest in it. i’m a novice so i didn’t catch this in store, just paid for strings and cleaning and alterations for $40. value of guitar negatively impacted & i paid for it! nice and nice sounding 20yr old, semi acoustic fender. such a shame, and as i said before i was in store and they didn’t ask! i would get my strings changed there again, though stressing that nothing else be done without consulting me

Made an online purchase of band shoes for my child… needed them quick. Sent a text message view their website to check how quick they could ship. They responded within minutes, before the store even opened. They told me the shoes were in stock and would ship same day. Awesome service.

It’s a good place for renting and buying instruments. They repair and provide loaner instruments.
The Music Shoppe has always provided quality service. We have purchased one instrument from them, but had other instruments serviced. They have knowledgeable staff and I have never been disappointed with any repair or maintenance work they have completed. They bent over backward once to help us in a pinch.
My only complaint is that they are so busy with schools, it is hard to get personal instruments in. (They told me 3 weeks before they could even look at my daughter’s instrument.)
These people are consistently quality professionals. Over the last 5 years I have trusted their service and have not been disappointed.

Looked at stuff for over 20 minutes without getting attention of any staff members on a very slow day. I literally was carrying a list of items I needed. Prices were way out of line. Selection was slightly better than Guitar Center.
Absolutely the most unprofessional shop around ! Straight garbage
I went to get my clarinet fixed and they tried to up sell me on getting all my pads fixed and thought I was a child and were annoyed I came in the store when I came to pick it up. I will not be using these services again because of the horrible service I received from the workers.

I have been fortunate to be able to travel all over the world and no matter what city I am in, I always have to find a guitar shop to stop in. I’ve been in some magical places…and Make’n Music is one of them. What Teddy has created is something extraordinary. When I walk into this store I am transported to the very first time I walked into a guitar store. Each guitar is in beautiful condition, perfectly set up and the vibe here is like no other. I could easily spend several hours just looking over the vast collection of beautiful guitars that line the walls. The Feng-Shui of Make’n Music is so inviting and you feel like you have stumbled into some kind of special club, designed just for you. Plenty of space to plug in and try out any one of the perfectly set up guitars. Teddy, aside from being an absolute gem of a human being, sets up guitars like you’ve always wanted…I’m talking perfect actions. He’s a savant and his knowledge is only equaled by his humbleness. Hands down my favorite guitar store. Thanks Teddy for having created a sanctuary for us musicians!

I saw on another website that they were selling one of my dream guitars, so I called them up and asked them a few questions and a few minutes later I was the proud owner of said guitar. They had shipped it within the next couple of hours and it was at my door 24 hours later. After owning this guitar for a week I saw that the manufacturer had a black Friday Sale for the exact model I purchased. I contacted Make’N Music and a week later they were able to refund me money for the sale price. The manufacturer is in Israel by the way. This place knows and understands customer service to the tee! I hope I am able to purchase many more products through them. They went above and beyond for me! Truly an awesome business!
Great store. Middle of nowhere. And definitely not the shop pictured. They had Les Pauls. But would not sell them. What’s up with that.? Very small selection in unless all you want is Airline guitars. No one said much. Just some people hanging out. Not clean and shiny like pictured. I believe they must have downsized big time. Great people. Real nice, know what they’re talking about. Take their gear over the local competition because they just know it better, even if it isn’t spooky. Their techs are very likely great but weren’t in-site available when I visited. It’s still a beautiful shop.
I was in the market for an American made Telecaster and they had nothing to show me. I had my brother n law tell me he wanted to take up bass and they don’t carry basses. I don’t understand what their market is? Another example of how bad the Chicago area music stores are.
Store is really different from the earlier locations off Milwaukee Ave., Ohio St., and Artesian. Even the store off Hubbard – after the move from Artesian – had far more inventory.
Though I could be wrong, it seems as though the days of finding tons of high-end boutique, FCS, GCS and PRS guitars hanging on the walls is gone. Also gone are the days of 8-10 really cool high-end amp makers being represented, including several products on the floor from builders like Elmwood, Bogner, Matchless, Victoria, Fuchs and on and on. The effects offerings are also a small portion of what they used to be.
Not quite sure what happened to the store the past couple/few years. Used to be, far and away, the finest boutique shop in the country (used to get regular visits from cats like Billy Gibbons, Keith Richards and many others that would fly in just to buy gear).
I wish the current guys the best of luck. And hope they have a long and healthy ride. Would be cool to see the store return to its former glory years, when it was The Grand Daddy of cool gear.

I frequently purchased merchandise over my years, normally I do business up north. I decided to buy a guitar for a gift about several months later I noticed that the bridge on the guitar was coming apart so I took the guitar back for exchange but was refused to exchange because of warranty. I didn’t expect a new guitar to come apart especially at the bridge we have several at home and never had an issue besides basic maintenance. I don’t feel as if I need to bring rulers, micrometers, calculators to purchase a instrument. Please spend your hard earned money at some other music shop if you want quality and respect.
They hate drummers. Lost a sale because they were condescending to a young man I was with. We’ll be taking our business elsewhere.

In the late 90s early 2000’s this was an awesome store. Used CD’s, Ppl who loved to talk about old bands and music culture, It was different. Mind you, they still have great instrument selection, and fair prices for a small business. Some staff is decent, some have the personality of a week old gym sock. I’d say if your local, pick up your kids first instrument there and support local small business. Idk if the lead dude from x-crush still works there, but he was awesome. but it’s a lottery.
Love going there and stuff but idk if it was one of the employees or just a customer, but this older guy walked up to me and my friend and made a really rude comment about our colored hair “did you wake up late at a party or something?” How the actual heck would anyone think that is an ok thing to say?????

My family came in just a few minutes ago and they were very ride to us. My boyfriend, who is normally a very strong person, just walked out of this place in tears because they made him feel embarrassed. Smh. Rude rude employees who act like musical elites.
So you want to call on the dude behind me in line and not even greet me or tell me to have a nice day? Poor way to run a business. The old white guy at the front is rude and inconsiderate. He chose to serve the man behind me in line, likely because I’m a woman, so congrats on losing not only my 42$ purchase I got refunded today; but all future purchases from my multi instrumentalist husband that has been a customer here for over 6 years. I’ll buy from Amazon before giving my money to rude old men. Do better. Hope it was worth it for that dudes 12 dollars worth of strings.

I was on a roadtrip and stopped by several shops along the way. I always love to see what different pawn shops have to offer, so I decided to browse around. Great selection of video games, jewelry, knives, etc. There were soooo many things that I wanted but had to control myself. Lol

Wish they would take more things especially since they’re the only pawnshop around here. But other then that it’s nice. The one son with the beard and brown hair is always the best to go to. The others I prefer not to deal with because they’re a bit more rude but he’s always very nice and talks through with you on things.
Called in to pick up an item and told the guy in there I am driving from a place 90 miles away and asked him to reserve the item for me. I arrived the store in 80 minutes and found somebody else holding the item out of the store!!! When I wondered why did he let me drive for 90 miles if he can not keep his word. The nice answer was: first come.. first serve!!!! Last time to deal with forever.

Very bad experience with this so called pawn shop, they always say there is no market for mechanics tools. Definitely no stopping here ever again. Peoria pawn shop had no problem buying my items at very reasonable price.

Great place to buy theater organs
Not surprised that when I made a call today I would be cut off each time I tried to explain a small segment of what my call was about. I experience this everytime I call this company!! Horrible professionalism and tone of voice is questionable! I was asking why would a guy in sales be sent to complete an installation of a part and diagnose a problem with my Leslie. Neither here nor there at this point, but why own a business if you refuse to listen to the customer and not interrupt as things are being explained. I guess I should not have thought I was still under warranty, just to be told the last service call wasn’t under labor either, and that the labor charges were paid by the him. That was a good point, but I had no problem mentioning the self-labor I processed after the service tech departed. Having (myself) a degree in Electrical and Mechanical Technology, I felt I could handle taking the organ back apart to reattach the ground loop that the service tech left unattached, that was visible between the left upper cheek block of the organ. I felt Mr. Lee doubted my mention of the loose ground wire because he responded saying: “I’ve never got a call from you about that!” I nicely informed him that I called the technician who had already jumped on the highway to return to the company and opted to just disassemble things and reattach the ground loop as well as inspect for other discrepancies.
I ended this call by asking for his name (Lee), and I assume he felt I asked so that I could report my experience to a higher-up. Well, he didnt hesitate to mention he was the owner of the company and all complaints are handle by him. However, from past experiences, I’ve found there’s always an alterate route to take whenever there is a temporary roadblock in the direction of rightful travel.

I had to have my horn sent to Alton because this tech in Centralia is discriminatory against people with disabilities. Had to drive two and a half hours 200 plus miles and no discount for a simple repair I will never use them again thinking about taking legal action.
