Woodbury Music is the best shop around of all of your instrument needs! The shop owner Dave, is both friendly & knowledgeable! I have gotten both common things done (fixing of saxophone keys) as well as unusual things done (fixing of a dulcimer bridge) and everyone has always been great! I have also taken lessons for almost three years now, and my teacher Mike is not only a dedicated teacher, but also a very talented professional. Stop by and check it out!
Great honest shop here. Had a great online interaction with Dave via email. Want to know why I trust them? Because they talked me out of a purchase. Ha! Thanks again!
A hidden gem UPSTAIRS. Don’t miss it. Dave the owner is great, and talented. Patrick Gill is the PREMIER guitar TECH in the whole northwest CT region. He works miracles at a very fair price. Excellent teachers, Will for piano and keyboards and Mike for guitar and bass. Better check them out. I only trust my guitars to Dave and Patrick. Won’t go anywhere else. Seriously.
I’ve been playing guitar for a long time, but felt I was stuck in a rut. Only three lessons later from Route 7 later and I can already notice a big difference in my playing. Not teaching to a particular style, Phil’s helped to expand my fluency on the fretboard and my options of “stuff that works”. I’m excited about my potential again and intend on sticking with the lessons.
Very happy with the customer service and staff at Route 7 Music. They are a great bunch of guys, and our daughter has learned so much from Gary on drums. She loves the lessons, looks forward to them and actually likes practicing. Thanks for making learning an instrument a positive, fun experience!
Gary is a great drum instructor.
Do not follow hours on door or website, very dissapointing 🙁
5. The Southbury Music Studio
Address: 100 Main St N, Southbury, CT 06488 , Heritage Village , Connecticut , United States
Great music studio that I had the pleasure of working at for 7 years! Had a great experience teaching students here and becoming friends with the other instructors.
Bonus: My wife and I met at the studio while we were both working here!
My son has been a student at Southbury Music Studio for a few years and absolutely loves it! He has picked up a few instruments now so we have had the pleasure of working with a range of teachers and I can’t say enough good things about them. They are all professional with a love of music and truly enjoy the students. The studio also hosts recitals and Rock Band Camp and both are amazing. We highly recommend this studio!
As an adult looking for piano lessons, I was hesitant about beginning anywhere. When I walked into the studio, everyone was so welcoming, my hesitations disappeared. The staff is very accommodating to my erratic work week, allowing me to schedule lessons accordingly. The location is convenient, offering the opportunity to get errands done before or after lessons. My teacher is skilled at teaching all ages, has a great sense of humor, which makes me feel at ease.
Very small on the inside, selection is bad, people are friendly and they work for you.
Offers a small selection of musical products and lessons which could be convenient for those in the Southbury area
My daughter has been with Stephanie for the past 4 years and loves her teacher . Stephanie is very helpful ,accommodating and very patient with her students . We highly recommend this place .
I walked in with my guitar and I asked the lady for the same Size guitar string as the one in my guitar and they didn’t know what size is was.
DONOT RECOMMEND BUTING STRINGS AT THIS PLACE
I called southbury music studio and explained my experience level and where I want to go in my guitar playing. The girl I forgot her name was very patronizing to me and told me they would get back to me. Well they never did, are they teaching anyone there or are they just going through the motions collecting money. Makes you wonder.
6. Studio 747
Address: 747 Old Waterbury Rd, Southbury, CT 06488 , Heritage Village , Connecticut , United States
Steve is absolutely the best around. Seriously he can make songs sound so amazing. If you want to take your songs to the next level, go to Steve.
What sets Steve and Studio 747 apart is that he is so much more than a producer. He is like a sherpa for your song. He has an innate sense of songcraft that he uses to guide you from the demo stage into something really magical.
His patience is incredible: he offered so much positive and constructive feedback on the vocal tracks that I didn’t feel like the clock was ticking. He felt like a musical partner; not just a hired hand.
I’ve never written a Google Review of any business before, but I had to for Studio 747. I had such a great time recording with Steve and the finished product is so excellent, that I really wanted to let others know about the experience.
Bottom line, Steve is exactly the kind of person you want handling your song.
Steven Judge is flat out one of the best producers in the business. My songs went from good melodies and feel to real, incredibly powerful songs. It was all I could have hoped for. Steve’s talent makes your talent brighter.
7. Chatfield True Value Hardware
Address: 190 Main St S, Southbury, CT 06488 , Heritage Village , Connecticut , United States
Always find what I am looking for. All the Reps are very friendly and helpful, especially the owner John!
Chatfield’s is the consumate “old school” hardware store in Southbury. It’s family owned, and I’ve had nothing but positive experiences here. I get my propane refilled here – keys made – purchase paint and lumber – virtually all of my hardware needs. They even sell clothing, Yeti and Weber products. There’s nothing that I’ve ever need the they haven’t had / and if they didn’t have a particular item – they ordered it for me!
By far the greatest part of shopping at Chatfield’s is the staff. I’ve even had one of the guys load his truck with approx. 30 bags of mulch – not much before closing on a Sunday – and deliver it to me so that I could complete a job thst weekend.
They’re fantastic and a wonderful part of our community.
We rented a tent and dance floor from Chatfield’s for our wedding. They were excellent to work with & the tent was the perfect size for our event.
A little pricey, like most smaller hardware stores but it’s right in town and they have a good selection. Staff during the week is awesome! Weekend staff is horrible. Typical teenager /young employee mentality – they want you in and out so they can go back to socializing with each other, can’t answer questions or give blow-off answers to try to get rid of you. Nevertheless sometimes you just have to go to the hardware store on weekends. Typically closed Sundays in winter.
Best place for incidentals. It’s personal , people are knowledgeable of products and very helpful. Easily accessible and prices equal to big box give or take so support the locals !
Their hours still list them as being open till 6:00. They are open till 5:00. This kind of screwed me over.
Brought my lawn tractor here after it would not put power to the ground after we changed the rear tires. Their diagnosis was a bad transaxle and apparently needed a new head gasket, and telling us it was “not worth fixing”. After deciding to take it back and taking it apart, we found that it was only missing the axle keys on each side, a $2 fix. This not only means that the tractor was never even touched by a service technician, but also that the staff blatently lied to us about what needed to be repaired. After finding new axle keys at another local hardware store, the mower now runs and drives fine.
My scag mower had a blow motor had some one else look at it and it had a blow fuse…. Mower runs fine new fuse runs like a champ now
8. Hudson’s Cafe & Bistro
Address: 466 Heritage Rd, Southbury, CT 06488 , Heritage Village , Connecticut , United States
I love this place so much, everyone is so friendly and always willing to help ! Very good vibes and the food and drinks are always amazing.
Great place. Friendly staff… had the Heritage Egg Sandwich… really good. And they have beer… well not at breakfast but lunch on…
I’m so glad a new place to get coffee and quick stuff is in town. They have plenty of options for your needs. The food looks amazing. My wife said it was very tasty. I just got a keto snack. The coffee was very good. Got a latte and could tell they get a quality bean from someone. Still new and still learning how to get the rhythm down. Overall the only thing that needs a buffer is wait.
Hudson’s Cafe promoting a big Mexican food night and it was packed with people. They weren’t prepared with enough help. There was only 2 waitresses and what looked like only one chef. People had long waits just to get a menu and their food.
The food was good.
We each had a special a prime rib sandwich with fries and a barbecue chicken wrap both were very tasty
Nice menu and decent food but over priced. Employees are not very attentive. Poor customer service and management. Didn’t have the courtesy to respond to constructive criticism nor apologize for the poor service.
Last time. Dinner was a disappointing salad, overdressed and soggy, with added fruit which were sour strawberries that I doubt the chef had tried. My friend ordered the lamb gyro. The “slices” were leather hard patties, tasteless tomatoes, and came with inedible grease-saturated fries.
Coffee and pastries were good but nothing special. I would have given a second chance but this place is definitely not kid friendly and the young blonde employee was cold. No good vibes here at all.
I live locally and went for brunch. The staff is friendly. The plate I ordered was basically cheese and flat bread. It had a small amount of egg and bacon. The taste was ok but very overpriced. I will not be going back.
9. Umbo Gumbo LLC
Address: 732 Spruce Brook Rd, Southbury, CT 06488 , Heritage Village , Connecticut , United States
I stopped in here for a breakfast sandwich after a hike in the nearby state park. I was amazed to find that the sandwiches were only $1.75 before 10am! We got a ham and egg whites sandwich and then a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich. The sausage was really good, I think it added a good flavor. The egg white sandwich was good, but honestly didn’t have enough egg and meat for the amount of bread compared to the sausage sandwich. But it was good and definitely great for the price! I’d recommend a visit.
Super cute great hangout spot
Heritage Deli is always a local favorite, and always has good food! Would recommend to anyone on the fence.
The woman who works the counter is unbelievably rude….every time I have come in. She is not even remotely friendly. Why work a customer service job if you have no people skills. Discraceful
We had Southwest wraps today. They had no filling. Very bland and not seasoned even though we asked them to season it. Eggs smelled funny, I would not recommend this place nor will I be visiting again even though we are local. Waste of money. The front worker was very rude and had a bad attitude. Looks like she was having a bad day.
Chicken ‘cutlet’ sandwiches use processed chicken, not actual chicken cutlets.
If I had wanted a chicken patty I wouldve ordered one
11. Southbury Training School Thrift Shops
Address: S Britain Rd, Southbury, CT 06488 , Heritage Village , Connecticut , United States
The people who volunteer/work here are the nicest people who are always in a good mood, friendly and helpful. Love going here!!!!
Great place for second hand..fun to pick and rummage for trinkets..and things for house and craft projects
Great deals friendly staff
Good stuff
I love this thrift store and the vast majority of volunteers are really kind, genuine people.
Recently, unfortunately, I was there with my mother dropping off donations after clearing out our storage room and a rather unpleasant, unkind older man began picking through the boxes of donations and making rude comments. Initially we both gave him the benefit of the doubt but he has since made similar comments to both my mother and myself individually.
We’re still donating and have no intention of stopping our business on account of one rude person but it is definitely something that should probably be looked into. Especially if other people have received the same type of treatment.
So this is technically two thrift stores, in separate buildings. First I went to the one that sells clothing. It was clean and well organized and the volunteers were wonderful, super friendly and helpful. I got a ton of great deals and had nice conversations with the women who were ringing me up and they folded and bagged all of my purchases for me without me even asking. I would give this location 5 stars and look forward to going back.
Now we go to the other location, where they have knickknacks, glassware, linens, etc. The volunteers working the counter here were curt and unfriendly, bordering on rude. Half of the items I picked up had no prices, even in the front room where everything is neatly organized. After I checked out I was told I needed my own bag for the pile of things I had just bought, which could have at least been mentioned or posted on a sign when people are buying lots of small fragile things. This location I would give 3 stars and would probably not go back to.
Where else? Where else in the Danbury/Bethel area can you get all the music, Muzak, musique y musica Stuff and Expertise at all levels and for all genres that you may need?! Where, I ask you. Go ahead, try and tell me. But don’t try to tell me you’ll find nicer, more helpful staff than Sarah and Sophia and Juan and… Don’t even.
Great service!
Allowed me to trade in a Sax for Trumpet and gave me a very fair price on the Sax. Thank you Bethel Music
Just stopped by quick. Had a great hour. They are the best
Good info from employees
Instrument rentals are great for their prices
14. Creative Music Center
Address: 701 Main St, Monroe, CT 06468 , Heritage Village , Connecticut , United States
Nice music store in Monroe, we bought a cute ukulele here!
I love this place, i go in just to look at the product and I always end up buying something.
Awesome staff and great deals! No surprise they have 5 stars!!!
Came here with my son they were very rude to my son and not very knowledgeable… wouldn’t come back here again and don’t recommend it.
Scheduled a guitar lesson here, spent $45, arrived on time, the teacher I was assigned to never showed up. At least they were nice enough to give me my money back the next day.
I just went to this store with my violin wanting the sound post set and to re-hair my bow. When I walked in there were two ladies at the counter. As I opened my case asking the the lady in the white turtle neck with straight brown hair if they re-hair bows? She snapped that they didn’t. The nice girl next to her chimed in as said out loud “She re-hairs bows?” Then the other lady gave a look and said I would need to buy a new one! She then picked up my violin and started to point out things about my only violin that were not good enough for her to re-set my sound post! I then asked “How much to just re-set the sound post?” She refused me service and said “Good Luck!” AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU CAN! I think I didn’t fit the “type” they prefer to give services to?
15. The Music Shop
Address: 405 Queen St, Southington, CT 06489 , Heritage Village , Connecticut , United States
Very helpful staff and kids get to play the demo keyboards which only sparks their creativity and musicality and that’s a bonus in my book. They also offer lessons here and have a huge selection of guitars and instruments can be rented or purchased. Will be visiting again that’s for sure!!!!
Best
Great Place.Awesome Teachers
The cellos were in not in good shape and we had to pay a luthiere to redo repairs that were poorly done when we received the instrument.
Great place but website could be better such as pics of some used equipment. I’m a drummer and would like to see what they have for new and used cymbals, stands, drum kits etc. And prices. I have done business with them and always had a great experience the reason for three stars is the website doesn’t do the music shop justice. All and all great store great people.
16. Music Guild
Address: 276 Main St, Danbury, CT 06810 , Heritage Village , Connecticut , United States
This place is amazing. Thousands of guitars to drool over, hundreds of vintage guitars and any instrument you can imagine. You have to check this one out. It’s like a museum.
oldest guitar store in town, maybe even around the surrounding towns, this place has so much old/vintage,even antique instruments and hardware/pedals ect. that it should be classified as the danbury instrument and musicians museum ,Russ himself is a jazz player from way back,he started the store in the late 60’s i think.he knows many of the old blues and jazz greats, and has been around the block many many times.if you go to the music guild, TAKE NOTES!. a wealth of knowledge stands behind the cluttered but somehow organized counter. in short. the guild is the definition of “old school” music stores. and if its vintage classic old school your looking for. this is the place! new stuff as well.cash is king ,but the guild still remains the old school walk in deal/ barter/ trade guitar store of the 60’s,70’s and 80’s. existing in the 21’st century.
I really enjoyed this place, all 3 of the people who worked here were super nice, and top of that many famous musicians have been here. I really recommend this place because the service is fast and good.
You can find what you may need
Nice music instrument business, i believe it is a very important thing to do because of churches and other places that need music instruments. Good business, wishes them luck
Lots of old gear. Hard to navigate with stuff in the isles. Still, I’ve found some good deals there.
I had the unfortunate experience of doing business with the Music Guild. I brought in a vintage amp for repair. I got it back, and some of the issues were solved, but it was still having severe problems, to the point of being unplayable. I told them this, and their response was “well we can take another look at it if you want.” Great, I can spend more money to not have a working amp. Anyway, I’ll paste in the email I just got from an ACTUAL amp tech about what he did to repair the amp. This is the section of that email that describes the mess inside the amp:
“Repaired broken leads inside the reverb tank – that restored operation. Cleaned controls & tube pins, got rid of some noise there. AC plug was falling off the cable so now you have a new one. Replaced leaky caps serving output tube control grids. And then there was the hi voltage filter cap kluge – new Sprague caps were added in parallel to the old filter caps. And arranged in a semi haphazard way. Though taped to the old caps, they were swinging around a bit, and that’s an invitation to break off. Also caps temp rated at 65C were parked above the power transformer and over power resistors which would probably bake them past their temperature limit.”
It’s possible that some of this shoddy work was done by or on behalf of a previous owner. Even if that’s the case, why didn’t the Music Guild fix this?
I’ve also had the pleasure of having them swap the pickups of a guitar I bought from them, to find that the pickups were out of phase with each other.
Stay away. Stay far, far away.
Clutter. Seems to only be concerned about making the sale.

Absolutely phenomenal work. Highly recommend and will use again! Top notch service.
