Fantastic place to buy any instrument you could imagine. Great instructors also. Sales staff are also musicians…Can’t beat that!
Very nice and helpful and they knew what they were talking about. I had bought a guitar from them and they helped me a lot. I would recommend going there
Great service. Lots of merchandise.
They are helpful and not pushy
Staff was not very knowledgeable when it came to anything electric guitar related but had a good selection and decent pricing
It’s nice friendly and quiet the guy knew the exactly what I needed and we got it pretty cheap
My husband has been buying bassoon reeds here for several months. The last one he bought cracked the first time my son used it so my husband asked if he could exchange it and he was charged full price for a new reed. I can see this being ok if the reed had been used multiple times, but it cracked the first time out of the package, which to me indicates a defective product. Bassoon reeds are expensive and if Dorsey Music won’t back up the products they sell, we will go elsewhere from now on.
Dorsey,… Do yourself a favor and get rid of that unbelievably rude Brian Patterson guy. I ran into him at your Ontario store and he’s just a nasty person. I’ve purchased tons of gear from you over the years, since 1997, and don’t like his presence in your business. Look at the other negative comments about “a rude, smug employee”. Those remarks are most definitely about this individual… just sayin’.
I seriously hate this business. I wouldn’t buy a guitar pick from these shysters
Insane inventory, mildly overshadowed by the positive vibe and knowledgeable staff.
These people are awesome extremely helpful. I’ve never seen a music shop that sells local bands merchandise and are supportive of the local music scene as well.
Great store
The store is small, and the selection of instruments is not exactly large. Chances are, you’ll only find between 3 and 5 bass guitars for sale. There is usually an adequate amount of electric guitars to browse through though. Also, a fairly good selection of acoustic guitars. And, you’ll probably find some other instruments, like cigar box guitars, ukes and banjos.
If you are looking for used instruments and good deals, I think Gigs is worth visiting.
Andy, the store’s proprietor, is friendly, quite helpful, and easy to talk to. Several musicians I’ve talked with say he is a very good guitar tech.
There are one or more guitar teachers working there. I heard one was quite good, but I can’t remember his name, sorry. The teacher or teachers work with both adults and kids.
The worst thing about the store is sometimes people smoke in there. I don’t like being in an enclosed environment in which people are smoking. I tend not to stay long when I smell cigarette smoke. That’s just nasty, and discourages business.
If this store sold more bass guitars, and if no one ever smoked inside, I’ve be giving Gigs a 5 star rating instead of 4.
They don’t sell reeds…
I remember, not too long ago Gigs Music Company was owned and operated by Rick and Debbie Schroeder. They had an impressive enventory. Then it changed hands you another great musician who worked for the Schroeders from the beginning and held it’s integrity. It seems those days are over. I’ve been there a few times lately and it saddens me to say it’s really gone down hill. To say the service is poor would be a understatement. The inventory lacks quantity and quality both. It’s definitely not getting a favorable critique from me. Three stars is more than generous in my view.
I dropped off my amp to get the boost and reverb fixed in August 2019. Over a year later and I still don’t have my amp. I’ve stopped by several times and tried to help find the parts needed. They won’t answer or return my calls so stopping by is the only way to check in. It’s been perpetually “a couple weeks” away from being done for a year. Unbelievably bad service. Never ever rely on them for amp repair.
Never answers calls
Went by to sell a couple guitars and amps on a Saturday. Hours on the door say they open at 11, but it was 1115 and noone was there. Another customer in the parking lot told me that “sometimes this just happens” and said he texted the owner to see when they were coming. At 1130 we both left. Follow the hours you show.
Awesome musician & entertainer. Most of all he’s an awesome person! We have been following Charlie and his music for 3 years now and he never disappoints!
We found his music accidentally, what a beautiful accident! Love the songs, the voice, and the beats! I only wish he lived closer to Las Vegas! My husband and I have a new favorite country music singer.
We first saw Good Time Charlie at the Hermit Music Festival. We knew then we would be loyal fans! Like his easy going style, original music and his great covers. Follow him on Facebook!
9. Dunkley Music

During a recent major move to Houston Texas from Nampa Idaho I was in the market for professional piano moving services and was frustrated at not finding an affordable service. I tried Angie’s List but only found ridiculously expensive services that were out of state and not practical for our situation. My wife suggested I call Dunkley Music for a referral. I spoke with Randy who informed me that they typically only handle across town moves and what the rates would be. I told Randy I really just needed someone who could load the piano carefully and professionally into a moving truck that I would drive myself to Texas. The problem then became renting a piano board vs. buying a piano board. After some more creative brainstorming we decided that I would rent the board for a nominal $20 and then I would pay to ship the board back to Dunkley after the move to Texas (only $75 via UPS). Brilliant!! What impressed me the most was that Randy trusted me to return the piano board in a timely manner and didn’t charge a deposit or raise the price of the rental fee. Instead, Randy thoughtfully considered how to best help a guy out on a budget. At the end I spent several hundred dollars, but saved literally a couple thousand over the “professional” movers on AL. Way to go Dunkley Music, your customer service exceeded my expectations!
Dunkley’s is a great music/instrument store. We have purchased violins, trumpets, french horns, and pianos from them. Very satisfied with the service and pricing, and the staff is top notch. Highly recommend.
Over the years I’ve found Dunkley Music to be the go-to experts in all things musical in our area. Their staff is knowledgeable and in some cases experienced at a professional level. Having someone explaining the value of an instrument and also playing it beautifully is a huge bonus!!
Nice location. For service, I prefer the Nampa store.
It’s alright. If you’re looking for Orchestra stuff I would recommend Telford and Sons.
I have bought a Kawai CN25 from Marion in a total of sale price of 600 plus 13 month renting period. Ends up with about 1645 U.S dollar. I am really happy with what I’ve purchased. And Marion is very nice on settling the deals with me.
My wife, son, and I went to Dunkleys to do a little piano shopping as we had sold her piano a few years back and have now moved into a new home and have space again. Spent 10 minutes walking around looking at the various options without so much as a hello from anyone working there. Noone seemed overly busy but neither did they seem interested in helping us. Love supporting local but if you do not want my business you will not get it.
The Dunkley’s have failed. Mark Dunkley has shown his true colors as a man that does not care about Boise, his Neighbors, and open space in Boise. I encourage all to patronise Welch Music.
He(they), sold out for money. Typical.
I took my guitar to Dunkley Music to repair its broken bridge. A week passed without so much as a phone call or e-mail to give me an estimate for the work. I stopped in and an employee told me that they intended to give my guitar to an independent tech to fix it. Fine; no worries. Four weeks passed. FOUR WEEKS. No phone call, no e-mail. I finally returned to the store to get my guitar. A different employee greeted me and retrieved my guitar from among a dozen or so others, which were no doubt collecting dust while not being worked on. She said, “Let’s take a look and see that the work has been completed.” Shocker: it hadn’t. I told her that they had had five weeks now to at least take a look at it and give me an estimate. The fact that they hadn’t was a sure sign that they didn’t give a damn about me, my guitar, or my business. I would call the service terrible, but “non-existent” is a better descriptor.
10. Treasure Valley Music
Address: 10369 W Barnsdale Dr, Boise, ID 83704 , Hidden Spring , Idaho , United States
This is the guy I take my sax into every time and he’s probably the best in Boise with getting your saxophone fixed. And super affordable great service!
Best spot for all things music gear in Boise, average GC.
Well stocked and plenty of employees. Unfortunately the customer service is not 5 star worthy by any means. We walked into the store past 4 employees none of which greeted us. When we finally found the guitar strings we needed another employee recommended the wrong ones and about checked us out before the original employee caught the mistake. Unfortunately when I finally got to the payment method (card/
) their chip reader charged my bank account but came up as an error on their end so I left before being charged twice without the item I came in to get.
Bottoms line though, for a huge franchise/monopoly of a music store, you’d better have your employees trained and stress the importance of customer service.
SUPPORT LOCAL ‘small business’ MUSIC STORES!
good bargains on music but the Boise store does not have full size 88-key keyboards they do not really have the room to stock them, but you can place an order with them online for whatever you’re looking for
Friendly staff and great selection
I would highly suggest you not book lessons with guitar center. You buy individual sessons through them and they keep a credit card on file. I had 2 lessons left to use when guitar center billed me for $109 for “lessons.” When i went and asked them to refund me because i still have 2 lessons that i paid for in credit they told me “it is company policy we cannot issue you a refund.” Needless to say i cancelled my lessons left.
As usual guitar center SUCKS!!! Left without purchase because I was tired of being ignored.
Im not really a person that leaves reviews good or bad, but this needs to be said, and hopefully something changes. Customer service is pretty much non-existent. ALMOST every time I go in I end up having to help myself. I even find myself helping other customers because there are no employees around to help. That being said there is one guy in there who is pretty cool and has helped me before, he has long really curly hair. Sorry I dont know his name but he deserves recognition, so thanks curly haired guy. The selection is decent, but coming from a bigger city where the guitar centers are much larger this place is pretty sad. I’ve been a GC customer for 15 years or more and have spent alot of money at these establishments and we deserve better here in Boise. I’m not much of an online shopper but may have to resort to that if GC doesn’t change their ways. Also they need to get over the whole mask thing, if you’re that worried close the doors and stay home. Instead of asking me if I needed help, the guy at the door would rather instruct me on how to wear a mask………I’ve made it this far pal, i think I can figure it out.
Great customer service.. amazing people… fast and efficient… I went in there and I was out with in 10 minutes with a brand new trumpet for my son.. love it… will be returning soon
Selection is top notch, but gear and even strings are pretty boutique and maybe not best for a beginning guitarist. Get ’em a cheapo first in case they decide it’s not for them. Anyway, the store’s awesome, the staff are friendly, and the gear is great.
General music store. Several Baby Grand pianos, a limited number of guitar brands, sheet music, and a few accessories.
Not as helpful as I’d hoped. Purchased a guitar somewhere else.
I called them to replace the hair bow of my violin and the strings they said they can do it. When I visited them they Saud they can’t replace the hair bow but only the strings so I had to to another music shop.
RENTER BEWARE! Insurance on rented instruments does not cover accidental damage. You are better off going to Dunkley and renting – their insurance DOES cover accidental damage. We found out the hard way and were first told that the insurance would cover the damage, then told it would not, and we were treated very rudely by the old guy who works there – I don’t think he can have a conversation without interrupting.
I went in with questions and the intention to purchase books. While waiting for the next available sales person I was going to check out the pianos. One of them asked me if I was going to buy a piano and I said no, and then they kicked me out. I’ll never come back.
