Ross Kessler told me this is a cool place to hangout and listen to excellent music.
Deep vinyl collection, lossless streaming for music not on site, bring your own vinyl if you like, and absolutely fantastic, high-end, audiophile-quality speakers and amps. Good selection of whiskey and other cocktails. Excellent place to come and hear music the way it was intended to be heard, be around other music lovers, and enjoy a shared experience discovering music and tracks you’ve never heard before – and definitely have not heard like this. We brought some food to-go from down the street and had dinner there, while enjoying great music of our choice and that fantastic sound system. Owner is also super nice and accommodating. The space is lovely and evolving. Would definitely consider a private party in their space too. Thanks for a really nice time – we’ll definitely see you again!
Stop by and hang out and listen or play a vinyl record album with really cool people. No other place quite like this.
3. School of Rock
Address: 9 Prairie Ave, Highwood, IL 60040 , Highwood , Illinois , United States
My 7 year old son loves his music lessons and band practice. Highly recommend.
My 8 year old son is having a great time learning to play the drums and playing in the Rookies band. Everyone at School of Rock is warm, positive and tremendously helpful. We really love the program.
Susan has been my piano teacher here in Chicago for more than 10 years. I’m probably not a typical piano student: I’m a 65-year-old former U.S. Marine Corps officer and federal prosecutor who is now president of one of the largest privately held concrete companies in the country.
My story may be relevant just to show how Susan Merdinger can inspire and enhance the life of anyone through her character, intelligence, artistic excellence and teaching skills.
My Mom let me quit piano lessons in 1967 when I was growing up on the Southside of Chicago. I spent the next 45 years regretting it.
Now, as my piano teacher, Susan is inspiring me to make up for lost time.
At the end of each year, I am amazed at being able to play pieces I couldn’t have imagined performing just 12 months earlier. This satisfying achievement comes only because of Susan’s character, merit and talent as a teacher and her passion and enthusiasm to motivate me to practice 1 to 2 hours every day.
Susan is patient while maintaining very high standards with a commitment to excellence. She celebrates the progress of all her students to whom she is dedicated. While waiting for my lesson to begin, I have watched in amazement as she interacts with a full studio of very diverse students, young and old, beginners and advanced. I’ve watched as she’s brought smiles to all her students after their recitals and audiences after her own concerts.
And Susan is one of the smartest persons I know who is expanding my horizons of the classical repertoire I play and appreciation of the classical music I listen to. There is a special pride to see your piano teacher perform Shubert’s “Trout” Quintet in Fullerton Hall at the Chicago Art Institute with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chamber Music Series or to listen to her live performances on WFMT, Chicago’s renowned fine arts radio station.
I am a busy executive, but my piano lesson is the highlight of the week, even if that entails a 90-minute battle in Chicagoland rush hour traffic to get to my lesson.
That’s because my life is richer with the music Susan imparts.
As a U.S. Marine Corps officer, an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Justice Department and now leading hundreds of Teamsters in my business, I’ve been privileged to work with and hire a diverse number of people for the past 30 years. Susan Merdinger stands out.
You will not find a better artist, teacher, and person than Susan to further the mission of the Chicago High School for the Arts and to ignite a lifelong passion for music and the arts and inspire and transform the lives of those students she would touch.
I can’t recommend her strongly enough.
5. Sheridan Music Studio
Address: 791 Endicott Rd, Highwood, IL 60040 , Highwood , Illinois , United States
There is simply no better place for set up, service and equipment. These guys are beyond awesome.!!!! Chip and George are the best set up guys in the business, period!!!!
I want to thank the employees of the music gallery academy for the awesome experience.
They are definitely one of the best music stores I’ve ever been in.
Great for lessons and buying instruments!
7. Guitar Center
Address: 143 Skokie Valley Rd, Highland Park, IL 60035 , Highwood , Illinois , United States
The service was very impressive. Very Covid-19 friendly
Matthew was extremely helpful, but above all, very personable. The experience of buying something as minor as accessories was made to be genuine and unique!
Great place to buy and test gear..
Didn’t have what i was looking for but the employees are very knowledgeable and cool people
The staff is very helpful.
Wide selection of equipment, but clerks pay very little attention to you, and you are likely to wait for at least 10 min.
Worst attitude, poor customer service go to Arlington heights location or Sam ash
My son came to the store to get a string repair and was told it would take 5 days so I decided to come in the next day and see for myself because he is young and it seemed too ridiculous to believe. I was told the same thing. A simple repair string should not take that long. Then we went to the place we usually go to and I was out of the shop with a new string in 20 minutes.
8. Loud Pizza Records
Address: 716 Central Ave, Highland Park, IL 60035 , Highwood , Illinois , United States
Absolutely fantastic customer service, they really go above and beyond to help you the best way they can.
I had a really great experience with these guys and will look forward to shopping here again in the future ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great online record store with loads of amazing titles and extras. Prices, selection and shipping was all A+. Bookmarked the site! Will definitely be returning.
This store is what got me into vinyls. Loud Pizza always has the best selection and kept in perfect condition. They also have an incredible and easy website that’s very easy to navigate. I highly recommend everyone who likes vinyls or just music in general to check out this store!!
9. TR Music & Voice Lessons
Address: 1614 Little John Ct, Highland Park, IL 60035 , Highwood , Illinois , United States
Nick is a fine person, and a fine musician. I highly reccomend him. I have been taking for three years with him and we have had great lessons and conversations. BEST IN TOWN!
This singing instructor is the real deal. They’ve given me the tools to express myself through song and have elevated my performances. If you’re serious about singing, this is the instructor you need.
TR Music Academy accommodated us during the coronavirus pandemic. Here’s my kiddo, setup for her remote piano lesson with her favorite instructor. The remote lesson was seamless. We’re now on our 4th lesson and anticipate having many more remote lessons until we are allowed to leave our homes once again.
10. Redbox
Address: 320 Waukegan Ave, Highwood, IL 60040 , Highwood , Illinois , United States
Sandy is easy to work with, and she does great work. She is upfront with you on everything, and she doesn’t play any games. She charges very fairly, and backs her work up without question. I’ve had 2 tattoo’s done by her, and we’ve already started talking about the 3rd!
Best tattoo experience ever! Joel did a fantastic job. I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all, he answered questions, gave suggestions and made it a truly individual experience. I will definitely be going back for more.
Joel is the man. He’s super kind, helpful, easy to communicate with, and does what YOU want and what YOU are comfortable with. He’ll give some artistic suggestions that tend to only make it look cooler, but you can say no if you don’t like it. He’s really flexible. He responds quickly. I only will go to him for my tattoos. He’s done three for me so far.
Sorry to say but after a lot of back-and-forth and planning, which included tentative dates, she went MIA. Aside from a few rude texts about deposits and sketch proposals, I never heard back. This would have been my first tattoo and I’m pretty disappointed by how unprofessional the whole experience was… It seems others have had a good experience and hopefully mine was an anomaly But after a month of no response to text messages I am leaving this here. Wish the business good luck.
Made an appointment, 10 days ago, for today.
It was for a for an anniversary gift (today IS the anniversary).
She sent me a text 2 hours ago and cancelled.
If you decide to go here, have a backup plan.
13. Anna’s Mostly Mahogany
Address: 531 Bank Ln, Highwood, IL 60040 , Highwood , Illinois , United States
Without a doubt the best place in the north shore for all your fine and antique furniture need. The friendly staff member are super kind and very competent and is a pleasure to work with them. Anna’s is the place to go ❤️️
A wonderful selection of vintage and antique home decor along with carefully curated new pieces that you won’t see anywhere else. Merch changed over quickly so go often especially if you are looking for something special !
Best place for high end pre-owned furniture, lighting, and more. We keep going back and finding more.
I give this place 3 stars because they have a ton of unique and cool stuff. HOWEVER, their prices are just plain and simply ridiculous IN MY OPINION!!! I went in there for 30-40 minutes and man was shocked!! The cheapest thin i found was a tinnnny little old china cup and it was $15…all the way up to some old chinese cabinet that looked like thrift store quality at best and had a sign on it that said dont touch – $8000!!! Two lamps that were over $895 for the set! Two end tables that were cool but $600 each! Definitely not what I think of when Im thinking of consignment!
Great selection
A bit picked over this visit ( holidays) and 2 empty vendor stalls. A mix of vintage and 2nd hand furniture. Some nice pieces but priced accordingly (on the high side). Not really worth a trip but if you happen to be near you might make a lucky find.
Place is super over priced. And I’ve been antique hunting and picking for 15 years and I will tell you the prices are ridiculous. $275 for sliver PLATED tea set? Those are a dime a dozen. $580 for a painting that is scratched up? $48 for a cut crystal glass which is literally seen at every yard sale and antique place? Oh and let’s not forget $67 for a plastic egg you put on your coffee table! Unless you’re lazy and mega rich don’t shop here. Otherwise the place is pretty and nicely set up, but otherwise it’s more like a glorified museum.
Horribly rude woman working here – was going to make a purchase but when I asked a simple question she was so rude that I walked out! Don’t waste your time dealing with someone like her!
Beautiful, high-end, quality items but they’re in a different galaxy with their prices. One of the most overpriced shops I’ve ever been to. Won’t go back. Not worth it. You can find much cheaper prices downtown Chicago, London, Paris, New York City. Seriously.

I’ve been here before on a live music night and it was very enjoyable. Tonight I got to play pool a bit although there was a small crowd. Staff is always welcoming and friendly.
