Helped me out with my acoustic guitar, and the price was on point.
Excellent customer service and wide selection of equipment, from starter stuff to professional stuff.
Went in today looking at guitars. Great prices, great selection, friendly service. They had a brand I was interested in was and was looking for. I like the fact that they offer lessons. I will be back
Unfortunate that this is the only shop in town. They’re pretty expensive for almost everything. I’ll stick to Amazon.
They have an extensive selection of instruments & accessories. The staff is helpful & courteous. I will definitely be back!
Purchased a guitar and amp with all of the accessories for a new player. Upon picking up the guitar, the amp I picked out was sold, and another amp was put on the table with no explanation of where the other amp was. The amp was a decent brand, so I didn’t say anything, and the amp was also new. After using the amp, I had significant issues that I had to troubleshoot. Nothing worked. I returned them amp and explained what I had done to troubleshoot, and they did not want to look at it. I asked for the original amp I picked out, and the staff became angry and aggressive. I attempted to calm things down and solve the issue, but then they gave me the amp that I had originally played and asked me to leave. I will never return.
These Guys has absolutely no clue about what they’re selling/doing.
Better drive 100 miles more instead dealing with these non professional “sellers??????”
Keep you money don’t buy here
3. Alaska Music & Sound
Address: 1000 Ingra St, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Houston , Alaska , United States
Good service! My daughter is happy with her violin
Very nice friendly people and a lot of great instruments
Alaska Music and Sound us the place to go for sheet music, instruments, reeds, strings, drumsticks and a nice range of fun items for musicians (think stickers, music-themed earrings, etc.). We rent our daughter’s instrument here, and she takes a weekly lesson at the shop, too. We’re happy with the service in the shop and the consistent level of professionalism from her teacher. Our daughter has attended a master class here, too, with professional musicians. In short, whether you’re an established musician, someone who’d like to rent an instrument and get started, or a parent wanting to support a child just getting started in music, Alaska Music and Sound is a great resource!
Good service.
Sells well made oboe reeds. Would definitely recommend buying oboe reeds here
Really friendly and helpful staff
4. Mammoth Music
Address: 500 E 5th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Houston , Alaska , United States
Great place!! I used to go to Guitar Center, but I totally changed my mind once I started taking my gear to Mammoth for maintenance. Plus, they have amazing gear and doesn’t feel like walking into a McDonald’s like it feels when I walk into GC.
Support your local economy!
knowledgeable staff. amazing array of musical instruments
Great selection of instruments.
I know one of the people who work here the place is great to order from if you are getting musical instruments.
I’ve been a customer for years and was sold a broken used guitar that the salesman later told me that they knew was broken. Forget these guys, at least Guitar Center won’t scam you.
Terrible customer service. Unfriendly staff. Kind of a bummer. Good pedal selection though.
Nothing but problems. Been going to this place strings and such for 16 years now, but I would say I’m officially done. Would prefer to buy local but…
Staff is unpleasant unless they think you will be spending lots of money. Not knowledgeable. Not courteous. The only thing this place has going for it is a lack of competition.
5. Anchorage Guitar Central
Address: 1410 Hyder St unit a, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Houston , Alaska , United States
Petr added the guitar side to his violin shop. You can get anything you need here. It’s great!
Great service. Wonderful staff. Gave me a good deal on my son’s guitar from when he was 7. He’s graduating tomorrow.
Great place with some of the most unique guitars I’ve ever seen in a store! A definite stop for any guitar player!
DO NOT trust these guys. I paid $250. For a small guitar for my son to learn to play. After getting home and put new strings on it they sold me it exposed a huge crack at the box and neck. I called them she said it was used so as is…expensive lesson!
NEVER AGAIN GUITAR CENTER.
6. Petr’s Violin Shop & Guitar Central
Address: 1408 Hyder St Unit B, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Houston , Alaska , United States
Daughter rented a violin for the whole school year. I totally forgot about the payments. At the end of the year I was expecting to make a huge payment but found out that I had set up small monthly payments thru the year on my credit card so I didn’t owe anything.
Great team and knowledge for a variety of stringed instruments!
Great service, my family has purchased several acoustic guitars and a stratocaster from Petr’s shop. I still regularly use the acoustic that was purchased about 5-6 years ago, no quality problems. Had a problem with one and he provided great service in getting it fixed. Great prices and support.
They have no Rickenbacker so they can’t have 5 stars. Otherwise an excellent selection& prices but I felt like the sales person was rather hipster / superior. Though I would love to go back and browse some more I felt like I was a freeloader for not immediately dropping +$500 on an instrument. So shoot me. My philosophy is that browsers become buyers, but I am apparently wrong. I got a good recommendation from them for a tech to fix my ailing bass amp, so my trip there did actually yield commercial transactions, in the end. Good prices, good inventory, good community, goodish staff.
They had small selection of bass’ but, their rosin and other essentials are just way to expensive and cost $80 dollars, not including the instrument.. {Cloth, tuner, stand end stop}
Nice selection of stringed instruments.
Young woman at front counter helpful, smiled, and made eye contact.
Guitar room guy not engaging or helpful, more interested in his phone than engaging with me.
Every guitar has a “do not handle” sign with a sign that there is a 5 minute limit on handling a guitar. No place to sit and try an instrument.
Other staff did not acknowledge me at all.
I was the only customer at the time.
I would maybe go back if I needed something but the customer service was absent at the time of my visit.
Went to them and they told me the cello I got from amazon was no good, wanted to sell me a 1100 cello. Went to horn doc and it was fixed.
Watch out for hidden costs on rentals!
7. Houston Grass Station
Address: 15231 W Parks Hwy, Houston, AK 99694 , Houston , Alaska , United States
Nice and clean, great selection and good customer service!
Open all night and their prices are good also!
Plus they have a CLAW MACHINE!!
A little bit of a drive, but better product and great prices compared to the places in Wasilla. They could use some more training when it comes to strains, but they did just open so I will give 4 stars until they get better knowledge of what they are selling.
** Hint Hint Ron**
Absolutely horrible experience, the guy kept yelling at the customers saying how upset he was that he had to work 13 hours. I regret giving this place money. He was aggressive and pushy, by far the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. This is literally my first review on google, that’s how bad it was, I had to leave feedback…
Homophobic owner. Will take my business elsewhere.
Customer service was good. But very disappointed that I spent 80$ on gassicane seeds that were supposed to be guaranteed feminized and 1 plant so far on my first run turned out to be a male.
8. Wood and Wire Guitars and Music
Address: 3020 Glenn Hwy, Palmer, AK 99645 , Houston , Alaska , United States
Professionsl, friendly music lessons for Children and Adults.

Check them out, you will not be disappointed!!!
I love this place it’s like my litter hide away the second you walk through front doors you feel like you just found a little lost jem
FINALLY! A music store in palmer!
FINALLY! A music store in the valley Who carries Better brands!
FINALLY! A music store in the STATE that’s not trying to rip you off around every corner.
All I can say is, Finally.
Nice little music shop. Friendly owners and a pretty cool selection of guitars.
I really like this place, just really good vibes here the people were really nice, really easy to talk to, very informative and there was some really beautiful guitars there as well. I haven’t gotten my guitar repaired there yet but when I do I will definitely review that as well.
Nice assortment of guitars and stuff and Todd is awesome go in and check it out
9. Whiteys Music Shoppe
Address: 43335 Kalifornsky Beach Rd #26, Soldotna, AK 99669 , Houston , Alaska , United States
Scott, the owner, is a super friendly and highly knowledgeable musician. You can play anything in the store for as long as you want, prices are flexible. Its great little store, just check the hours before you go, usually 12-3 closed Sundays and Thursdays.
Excellent service and resource for instruments and music supplies. The music lessons are a fantastic flow for the business. The staff couldn’t be more exceptional. Instrument repair and used equipment are professionally done and maintained for turnover. Prices are reasonable and flexible.
Whitey’s had a pretty good vibe. It’s not a huge music store, but it does have a decent selection of instruments to choose from. The staff was very helpful and helped me get exactly what I was looking for while making small talk. Overall a good experience. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because it’s pretty small and might not have everything you’re looking for, but it’s worth a visit to stop by and ask.
Doesn’t open till 12 o’clock and is closed on Thursdays.
Update: drove 30 miles today to come to whiteys, only to find that they were closed on Wednesday at 530 when there sign clearly stated till 6 pm….I knew this hence why I drove that from to come here……..this is infuriating…….how’s a business of such low caliber stay alive……..too bad I have to give them a star at all
10. Alaska All Around Pawn
Address: 10927 Big Lake Rd, Wasilla, AK 99623 , Houston , Alaska , United States
This place is amazing, friendly staff cool stuff decent prices
Helpful friendly service lots of unique and cool stuff, I would recommend checking this place out if you have never been! Very happy with some items I put on consignment. There is something here for everyone
Was welcomed as soon as we walked in. Good selection of items, consignments, pawns and awesome customer service. Was not low balled and was very fair on what I needed. Willing to help you out if your honest and not have an attitude when you don’t get your way. Have recommended to friends and family and the only pawn shop in the valley We will do business with in valley. Thanks for being probably one of the most honest and trustworthy pawn brokers out here not looking to rip off your customers but to help them when they are in a insane time of need! ALLAROUND PAWN ROCKS!!
The people were very nice and helpful and the prices were very fair as far as custom jewelry goes all they would give me for a530.00 pendent was 15 dollars and the auction the maker of it was in at that time the minimum bid was 250 dollars so if you do have something like that I’d suggest the gold exchange in Wasilla next to the chevron station but they are good people great prices and will be treated with respect to your needs
11. Northshore Pawn & Thrift
Address: 4524 S Big Lake Rd, Big Lake, AK 99623 , Houston , Alaska , United States
Friendliest pawn/thrift shop in the valley. They have the best deals on movies too. Locally owned and operated.
Just stopped in to look for a fan. Got what I wanted and a whole lot more. For the full experience come on in and for the best prices bring a friend
Friendly people excellent place.
The guy that works there is very friendly and helpful
If you are looking for tools or DVDs check this place out.
Great selection, okay to high prices. But it REAKS of cigarette smoke. Absolutely REAKS!!!! If you buy anything from leather, furs, or clothing be forewarned, it will be smoked stained.
12. Music Mart & Studios
Address: 413 Noble St, Fairbanks, AK 99701 , Houston , Alaska , United States
Very nice, alot to look at with some really good prices
Friendliest Music Store in All Alaska
I have been going to Music Mart for over 35 years, and it has always been great. Great customer service and a really nice and relaxing environment.
the back door of the place uses a guitar mounted on the ceiling as a door chime. its the coolest door chime idea ive ever seen.
Cute little shop that’s been there forever. Only down was being treated like I didn’t know what I was talking about.
Selection is large. Service was friendly but seemed slightly off putting while browsing. Once a purchase was made, service became exponentially better. Would do business again.
Not impressed by their customer service, although I did get what I needed done, thus the 2 stars. I’ve been a few times over a period of 7 years and both times they were rude. I’ve also known people who have said they were rude. I’ll try Pro Music next time perhaps.
Expensive
I came in with my dad to look at guitars and to ask a price on his old banjo. I know my instruments and how to find the correct prices on used items. The lady who helped us, gave us the correct price, but she was talking down to us the whole time. I have never seen my dad treated so rudely.
