I stopped in today to buy my boyfriend a guitar, the customer service and friendliness of the staff was amazing as they helped me choose the perfect guitar. I’m proud to support mom and pops and I most definitely will be back! Thanks for the personalized service.
Little shop, big selection of guitars. The staff here are friendly and have lots of great stories to tell.
Not a great place for drum-related items.
Come support your local music shop
These guys got all the guitars. that’s about it, a couple other instruments.
Jim and Jesse are really helpful, and a great selection of guitars.
I’ve had several guitars set up at Mountain States Musical in the past. The work was well-performed and done quickly. I wish the review ended there.
Recently (as in this afternoon), I took two guitars in to have them set up. When asked where I got them, I truthfully said I got them both on the Internet, one as a brand new instrument from an authorized Fender dealer and the other as a used private party sale. The new Strat needed basic intonation and action set as well as having some sprouting fret ends filed down. The used Dot needed just intonation and action setup.
Immediately after this, I was quoted $125-130 each to do the setup work on them including a $90 “up charge for Internet instruments.” When I asked why the up charge, I was told it was because most Internet instruments are junk and are tons of work (paraphrased) at which point I packed up the guitars and left.
While I can understand charging more money for more challenging instrument setups, where an instrument was procured doesn’t really factor into the equation. A Fender Strat from Musician’s Friend doesn’t require more or less work to set up than a Fender Strat from Guitar Center (and in fact they’re the same company).
I’m very disappointed that I’ll probably have to take these guitars to another shop to have them set up since I’ve been happy with their work in the past. I won’t be returning.
Been by there half a dozen times, can never catch them open.
No marching drum sticks.. No practice pads….
9. Elledge Music Inc.
Address: 518 W Northern Ave, Pueblo, CO 81004 , Huerfano County , Colorado , United States
Probably the best little music shop you’ll ever find – anywhere. These guys know guitars and how to make them humm! If you have a guitar that needs a little work bring it here – I promise you that you won’t be sorry. When you pick it up and bring it home and play it you’ll be totally amazed! Very fast professional high quality work at an extremely reasonable price. Many thanks to Damien for the superb job he did fixing our flattop. It plays absolutely bbeautifully now. Thank you again!!!
Amazing customer service with my repairs and my purchases!
Owner is very helpful and friendly I took my grandchildren there and he was very polite highly recommend
Classic hometown music store. Big plus is luthiers on site. I love the clutter, too.
It’s great when they are open, but there have been many times when I show up well within the store’s hours (3:00) and they have already closed for the day. I would give them a full five stars if they stuck to their advertised hours.
Nice owner. Friendly place. Very helpful.
The gentleman who runs the store is very nice. However, whomever works on the guitars doesn’t know what he’s doing. I dropped off my Fender Stratocaster for a setup. I keep it downtuned a semi tone. It came back in standard tune with a horrible low E buzz. It just sounded terrible. The action was super low and intonation was way off. So much for a “professional” setup. I took it to Guitar Center for a real professional setup. They told me I was the third person this month with complaints about Elledge. Classic “you get what you pay for” situation.
I visited this music store with my cousin as his banjo was fixed and ready to be paid and taken home, Also with intent to buy their Luna electric but 5 minutes after entering the store and testing the poorly tuned guitars and tuning them for the store i was told by Mike that we’re too poor and can’t buy anything so I need to leave the store as they are busy and they don’t want to have to clean the guitars anymore from people touching them, (there was no business even going on except for them walking around and watching me or sitting down waiting for a customer.) So my cousin and I promptly left without a word, came back with the cash to pay off the repairs and I told them they lost our business.
If you would like to be treated like a clumsy, dirt poor fool while looking for a new guitar then this is the place for you! Otherwise steer clear of this rude and hateful establishment!
I called, and inquired as to whether he purchased instruments at his location. I am new to the area. He responded “that’s why I have a music store, to buy and sell instruments”. When I gave him my instrument model (custom Ibanez in wonderful condition), he responded again by changing his statement. He said “I have too many instruments, I only want to sell”. I don’t leave reviews often, but this seemed necessary for future shoppers here.
10. Guitar Lessons | Sergio Paulo Music
Address: 6601 Pickney Rd, Rye, CO 81069 , Huerfano County , Colorado , United States
Sergio has been a friend of mine for over 20 years. He doesn’t just like to play, he nerds out on music theory, studies music history, and follows music trends. His passion for music shows in almost everything he does. He taught everywhere – anywhere from music stores, to garages, around campfires, and out of my house. He loves people and teaching people and his enthusiasm is contagious. I couldn’t recommend him more, he’ll be a fun teacher, and probably become a good friend.
Sergio is an outstanding musician, a patient teacher and an exemplary human being. Excellence is his goal and he achieves it. I unreservedly recommend his guitar lessons.
I took lessons from Sergio for about a year. He gave me a really great start on fundamentals. I was pretty surprised at how well I progressed in only a few months. The practice techniques he gives you are fun and efficient, not to mention always directly related to whatever new song or lick you’re working on. On topic of that, he’s just an all around great guy to have as a friend. If you need anything in your life even remotely related to guitar Sergio is your guy.
11. Rare Bird Guitar Labs
Address: 20265 County Rd 83.4, Trinidad, CO 81082 , Huerfano County , Colorado , United States
If this guy could craft guitars as well as he crafts excuses for his chronic laziness, he might have a good thing going. After a year of waiting and a $1,500 deposit for a custom guitar, Bruce tried pawning off a second-rate, 20-year-old used guitar on me. I feel sympathy for this ailing washed out old character, but due to his mentally imbalanced deceitfulness, abject meanness, and thorough absence of professionalism, I’m choosing to post this aggrieved review. Quality Rarebird guitars are very rare indeed. Bruce’s craftsmanship and business prospects are dead and gone. I was kind to you, Bruce, and the way you treated me was despicable. Rest in peace, Rarebird.

Good selection of instruments of programs for the kids that there is support very kind and this that’s where I found The Pick of Destiny, because it was awesome.
Love the sweetest customer service ever!
Went liking four guitar string worker was very helpful! Kids even got a kazoo given to them!!!
The lady’s there are nice.
Real friendly, I would of given them a 5 but we drove 2 and a half hours and the man that repairs the instruments is on vacation.
Had my mouth piece i needed.
My family has purchased many instruments from this provider, and I still got stiffed. I traded in 2 moderate level open holed flutes and put an $800.00 deposit on a flute and the owner stiffed me. She charged me full price for the flute and did not even give me a trade in value for the flute that i traded in. I am almost 100% certain they also gave me the wrong flute. I paid this flute off, but i am extremely upset.
Please reach out to me to me for different instrument providers. I live in Colorado Springs and there are several places up here that I can provide to you!
DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!
Closed for vacation
Not able to find what I needed, staff tried to convince me what I was looking for did not exist. Although I was looking to replace an item I had. Lovely store but customer service was not great. Maybe the person was having a bad day, either way will be a while before I go back. That is only my opinion, it looked like they had a good selection of instruments and sheet music.
13. Scero Guitars

Highly recommend. Louis is a super nice guy and really knows Guitars. Very helpful and great service.
Owner is very friendly and accommodating! Despite his busy schedule was able to fit me in last minute and get everything done right then and there with no hassle! Thanks again, Louis!
Great find! Brought my bass to Louis for a string change/set up and went home with a super player! So good to find a local, independent with the skills and care to help with such service. Thank you!
If I could turn back time, I would. Hand made guitars is thrown out there loosely by Louis… mostly CNC like the big Coorporate names. I was drawn to this Company because I read five 5 Star Reviews… huge regret after getting what I got from them. A 3 month project turned to a 6 month nightmare. Original plan was going to end with me driving down there on a weekend to personally pick up this “Handmade” Guitar which was going to make it that much more special. Received a couple of phone calls in between the 6 months to inform me about why this Build was taking longer than usual. I kept my cool thinking it would add to the experience on having to wait longer for “High Quality Top Notch Product”. The day finally came when I was asked to pay the second payment in full before shipping it to me. I did… I paid and waited. 2 days later, I received a text from UPS stating that my guitar had just been dropped off at the front door. “No Signature Required”… just left at the front door for the world to see. Being a busy busy single parent with work and everything in between, it took me about 3-4 days to finally Crack open that case with a sloppy stenciled spray painted logo to find a beautiful guitar with a handful of flaws. I reached out to Mr. Scutti but started making excuses about the Delivery Driver having dropped it during shipping blah blah blah. Long story short… I paid almost 3K for a horrible experience and having to make final adjustments to be able to play this man’s Guitar. I don’t even consider it. I played it a couple of times and got absolute ZERO inspiration. I have planned on taking the electronics and transferring them into a 30 Dollar Squier Tele I just got at the Pawn Shop and leave the 3K dollar nightmare hanging on the wall to serve as a reminder that there are still great salesmen out there. No hard feelings, only stating the facts.
Beautiful shop! The lady that owns the place is absolutely sweeter than can be! I can’t wait to visit again! Always a pleasant experience going inside and they have some of the neatest things!
Very nice vintage store always something new
Extensive sweep of well curated vendor booths. Quality antiques.
Nice friendly place good stuff to buy if u like antiques
They have almost everything you could think of.
It’s downsized now and no public restrooms. But can still find some treasures.
16. First Choice Market
Address: 801 Walsen Ave #901, Walsenburg, CO 81089 , Huerfano County , Colorado , United States
Cute little has everything grocery store! Picked up an iPhone 6 car charger for $6.99!!! Cool little store of you need anything on the road, they’ve got it!
Gas station a mile or two back right off I-25S was charging $29.99 for same charger..!
Sweet cashier, very friendly. Good chicken tenders. I will go there again.
The best store at this area!
Nice store located right at the base of the mountains.
Always a bundle of Joy coming to first choice. Employees are rude and talk about really weird stuff and never shut up. However had a checker who didn’t talk to me except for Hi, Price Total and Have a nice day. Respect Sir!
Cluttered
I’m tired of going to this store with incompetent employees (not all employees) that don’t know how to operate their registers. When you have insufficient funds the register pops out a little receipt saying that. It didn’t! “Clerk 21 Louise” ran my card 3 times and didn’t know what was wrong or how to operate his register. He asked another employee and they assumed it was declined. It was not declined, it was ran through the register wrong and then I was told to swipe my card. It has a chip so it has to be insurted to run the chip… NOT SWIPPED. That’s why it did not work!
I’m not sure who is in charge at this store but you need to look at the expiration dates, half the products in this store is expired, not cool for business so now I’m forced to drive to Trinidad or Pueblo for groceries.
Way overpriced. I’ve never seen prices so high in certain items.
17. Guitar Center
Address: 5759 N Elizabeth St #150, Pueblo, CO 81008 , Huerfano County , Colorado , United States
Very friendly staff, willing to help you out.
Iva is amazing ! She always takes time to make sure Guitar center gets what your looking for.
Had a great visit today. The tech there was super helpful in diagnosis for our Taylor guitar. Would definitely go back for professional advice as well as to pick up some products.
Just came in and got my dream guutar, a 50s standard Les Paul. Mr. Kevin was extremely helpful and even though I was speechless because I was getting my dream guitar, he seemed just as excited for me to get the guitar as I was. This review is the first time I have put down the guitar since I got back home, meaning I have been playing it for nearly two hours straight.
Good place for strings or to look at a guitar. They will let you sit and test them out.
Awesome place to go for your music making needs, they usually have what I need and the employees are always very helpful and knowledgeable. 4 ★s
A very large selection and a very knowledgeable staff to complement the selection. If you have any guitar needs you do there.
Rude
After waiting in line for what seemed like an eternity just to buy a key ring for a guitar aficionado the key ring was apparently on the wrong rack. I was prepared to pay the overpriced amount of $9.99 but it rang up as $16!!! The store clerk claimed “somebody” must have moved them to the wrong rack.
No sale!
I stopped in on Sunday the 30th of July with the intention of buying my first guitar. They have a great selection of inventory. Unfortunately they don’t have great service. I walked around looking at guitars for approximately 20 minutes and never once was approached by one of the 3 associates standing behind the counter. Come to think of it, I wasn’t greeted at all. My intention was to buy my first guitar, amp, and all the other equipment I would need to get started. Not today buddy, not today. I’m in sales and know the steps to a sale. More retailers could benefit from some sales training.

Join in on weekly DND or Warhammer games, and browse their great selection of miniatures, terrain, dice, books, and other game items.
This cozy gaming lounge is highly organized by it’s welcoming owner. Tabletop gaming, figs, snacks, vibe; I had a great time. And don’t forget the 21+ and “bring your own” events!
Only visited once so far for a DnD session, but i already love this place! The people here are awesome and helpful, the session was fun and I cant wait for the next time I visit, and I am glad that I found a place where I can unleash my inner nerd! Would 100% recommend visiting!
20. Main Street Antiques
Address: 527 Main St, Walsenburg, CO 81089 , Huerfano County , Colorado , United States
What a great place to shop! I’m not sure if the correct name is “the green elephant” or “main street antiques” I guess it depends which door you enter! Very friendly lady has lots of information about her items for sale and some local folklore! Many, many interesting items to peruse and decide if you “just have to have” it. We will return here!!
Nancy is awesome she has loads to offer at decent prices highly recommend!
