I come here all the time just to play the instruments and electric guitars! Way cool place! Also great for buying music, guitar strings, play a violin and fail at playing the flute!
Kaityln was awesome! I had a trumpet that had an issue. She quickly realized the problem and fixed it in a few seconds. Although I had turned the valves myself trying to make it work. She knew exactly what to do. There was no charge. THANK YOU KAITLYN!!!!
Staff is very helpful and have knowledge of what they do.
great place for whatever musical things you may need, i’ve had mutiple instruments from portmans but lessons from here aren’t the best. super tiny rooms to practice in and having my instructor not show up mutiple times was enough that i quit getting lessons. but other than that it’s a good shop
Went looking for electric guitar with son. The young man that helped us knew his stuff. Very knowledgeable. Very nice. Very patient. Son returned and bought one next day.
Extremely Rude and unprofessional experience
I took my acoustic here to have new strings put on and action lowered. Worst strings I’ve ever had on a guitar. Action wasn’t lowered one bit and got worse and worse. They charged me 75 bucks so I figured I’d get some decent strings atleast. But they obviously put the crappiest ones they could find on it. My solid top Yamaha sounded like a 50 dollar first act guitar when I got it back. Nothing against Portmans music…but whoever the “technician” was for this guitar either didn’t give a f*** or just sucked.
Way overpriced and the staff knows nothing about music they are just sellers
Went in looking for a new mouthpiece. Adina was super helpful and very patient. After playing around on a few I found the right fit. GREAT service!
After eating lunch and the close by Larry’s Giant Subs, stopped in to just look around… especially since my son started a 6th grade elective guitar class. Spoke to the Store Manager, Adina, who was super helpful and showed us some cost effective options for a student/child who may or may not keep up with the instrument. We were able to find some surprising and reasonable prices for both a guitar and amp (we went the electric path). Got it all home and very pleased with our purchase. Thank you Adina, and Music & Arts (Savannah)!
Renting my daughter’s saxophone from here and getting weekly music lessons. Amazingly sweet and helpful staff!! They really care about the students and it shows. Thank you all!
Very kind staff and plenty of items for sale
Friendly, knowledgeable staff and respectable pricing. I’m not a musician, but my wife left impressed.
I’m truly upset with this store. I received 2 notices in the mail due to my credit card being declined. The reason why my card was declined was because of frauds activities. I went to pay on my daughter’s instrument and they told me that they do not accept payments in the store nor updated the information in their records. This is ludicrous. They need to change their policy. I called twice this week to reach customer service and they has me on hold for a whole hour. Something has to give.
The teen girl working was poorly dressed and rude. Having shopped at other locations before, I expected kind, well dressed employees with expert knowledge. That is not that case at this store– at least not with that employee!! This location lost the only good employee they had (the manager Brandon).
Great service and great store! I’ve been here a few times now for guitar repair and Tyler was awesome. He was able to straighten the neck and get the dead spots out of the fretboard. The prices are very fair and the service is impeccable. I’ll definitely be using them for all of my guitar needs in the future.
Great little guitar store with hard to find, rare & collectable artist signed guitars. Brands like Gibson,Fender,Alvarez,Ibanez and very rare expensive Les Paula ,flying V’s and Firebirds. Guitar strings, picks, amps and lots of acoustic guitars for sale. Nice friendly staff. Also all kinds of lessons. Great Guitar Store
Awesome little shop. Tyler was a good fella. He helped my wife with her first electric guitar. Made her vacation.
They are never there!!!
8. Rody’s Music
Address: 311 Mall Blvd, Savannah, GA 31406 , Isle of Hope , Georgia , United States
Needed some audio connectors that can’t be bought most places. They had what I needed. They also have a good selection of vinyl for sale.
Will never ask them to do anything again. Over $5000 to put two tvs on the wall and add Sonos sound. Spent 10 HOURS in the house and still couldn’t center a TV on a wall or hide cables properly.
On top of all that, they went into a room they weren’t supposed to be in and cut an “access hole” in the middle of a wall.. Complete bafoons. Will spend the rest of my life telling everybody it’s 1000 times better using Best Buy Geek Squad than these hillbillies from Savannah. Worst decision I ever made.
Use at your own risk!!
9. Guitar Center
Address: 7700 Abercorn St, Savannah, GA 31406 , Isle of Hope , Georgia , United States
Rented a sound system and they were unbelievably helpful the many times I called them when I had trouble setting it up
So glad to have a large store like Guitar Center here in the area, Portmans is great, but their selection of guitars and accessories is limited, because of this I would have to order most of the things I wanted online from Sweetwater. With Guitar Center I have more instrument options to try out and just seeing the tremendous wall that is here just full of guitars is truly amazing. What’s next, maybe a Sam Ash?
Got a great deal on my son’s dream guitar! They price match so make sure you check before you go, as long as they’re not having a sale on the product you’re looking at that is. I was able to save almost $100 this way! And they also buy instruments. Friendly cashier was able to help me with my questions and tested my sons new guitar for me to make sure everything worked. Great experience, highly recommend.
Very friendly employees awesome store.
Huge selection of guitars and accessories. Lots of other musical instruments as well. Drums, keyboards, speakers, etc. Friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you find whatever you are needing to get the band going.
Dave was really nice and helpful. Cool guy playing the piano. Nice atmosphere.
Customer service is a joke here. Shame on this company and the employees who choose to work for them. Guitar Center’s business model is to open up next to an established business in the community and attempt to rob it blind.
Hell to the no!
Go to Portmans music RIGHT NEXT DOOR – where you will be treated like family!
Employees were rude, one of them had long hair and the other was short and fat and hard curly hair. They were extremely rude and I’ve bought a lot of stuff here before and won’t be anymore. They freak out on you for playing the equipment and kept trying to laugh at me when I was upset because they could have been polite.
Customer service was exceptionally lacking. Out of 5 employees who were behind the counter hanging around, none of them acknowledged myself of others who were in the store, even when I was leaving. It’s not for a lack of them not knowing that I was there as they kinda glared at me, it was as if they did not care. There was even a mother and her young son who was looking to pick up a guitar. They asked me if I knew about guitars but I told them that unfortunately I am new as well. I felt kind of bad for them as none of the employees at the time seemed interested in helping.
I went next door to Portman’s and picked up my first guitar from there. It was a very positive experience from them acknowledging you as you come in, to checking to see if you had questions, to the older gentleman giving me a demonstration between the two guitars that I was interested in. I know I am just one person but I am one person who will not give guitar center my business in the future. I will go to Portman’s for my needs.
10. BWL Music String Instruments
Address: 8312 Kent Dr, Savannah, GA 31406 , Isle of Hope , Georgia , United States
Always accommodating and flexible. He’s very knowledgeable and willing to help
I am so grateful for the kindness, understanding, and honesty they showed me. My kiddo broke their instrument. They treated me with more respect than I could have imagined considering the bad news I was delivering. I would hands down recommend renting with them as the professional nature that they handle everything with is second to none.
Best string teachers in Savannah! Great prices for instrument rentals and purchase. Highly recommend.
Savannah Guitars is a great little shop with friendly and knowledgable owners and repairmen. They work on both electrics and acoustics. Support this place!
Excellent set up and quick turnaround on a Taylor AD17. Great place, great people.
I popped in for new strings and had a joyful experience with the man there – definitely chill friendly vibes and I left with a free sticker and good quality guitar pic!
Oh my god when I went into this place the one on abercorn Street as well as the one on Harrison Street you holla about taking me back to my younger days they had albums stereos all kind of stuff in this this is a great place if you were looking for any kind of music way back in the fifties up until the modern day time and both gentleman at work at the place were very extremely helpful so if you have nothing to do you need to go to Roadies Auto Warehouse on abercorn Street as well as on Harrison and I believe Lincoln check it out people this is the best place to be for music
Treat me like family.
They offer high quality equipment & their service providers are very helpful and professional. They deserve a 5-rating. Office can be slow at getting you scheduled, however.
Be careful. I was quoted a figure of $10,000 for installation of a basic system, speakers, and security system. When the work was done I was given a bill for $30,000.
Not much good to say besides pretty good selection, albeit poorly merchandised. The store smells funky and most of the staff, including the owner did not seem very nice. If you’re looking for records, save yourself the time and just go to Grave Face!
Would have given them four stars but: After spending $220 to have Rody’s hoo’k up my electronics, I realized that I forgot to give the tech my headphones to hook up (I have a bi-lateral hearing loss). We moved into a home recently and I have been busy doing the usual move-in chores….Now that things have calmed down, I decided to hook up my head phones. No luck. I’ve tried everything that I could. So, I thought since Rody’s was here a couple of weeks ago, maybe, for a small fee, they could swing by and hook up these damn headphones. I just called Rody’s and the lady told me that it would cost me $135. I couldn’t believe it, especially since I told her they were here a couple of weeks ago. She was pretty curt about it saying that the $135 was their “service call fee”. Well, a couple of things: 1) Rody’s DEFINITELY lost a customer, 2) I will let everyone I know about the piss-poor customer relations on their part.
