I had two mark VI saxes overhauled by them and got my Miyazawa flute serviced there. The service was excellent and my horns play great!
Staff have always been friendly to me and are very knowledgeable of the products they keep in stock. I love that they carry Godin and Seagull guitars because they are not as well known as they should be. Their product selection isn’t as broad as Mammoth but is focused on quality over quantity and I am sure they can get something ordered for you if they don’t have it in stock.
Customer service was on point. We were in and out of there in less than 5 minutes, mind you there were also other families getting instruments and supplies too.
Sells well made oboe reeds. Would definitely recommend buying oboe reeds here
Good service.
Really friendly and helpful staff
2. Mammoth Music
Address: 500 E 5th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Itu , Alaska , United States
Bought a Roland fp30x today and stand. Great service, friendly staff. The goto place in Anchorage for anything music and rentals. Price was beyond fair.
I was on the hunt for a left handed guitar with an HSS configuration and a Floyd Rose for quite a while. A friend of mine brought to my attention a guitar that Mammoth Music had in stock that met all of my requirements, but was located roughly 4,000 miles away in Anchorage, AK.
I immediately called the store and was greeted by a gentleman named Tommy. Tommy was INCREDIBLY helpful in giving me all of the details about the guitar, and even offered to take down the listing while I acquired the funds, as he could tell I was very serious about purchasing the guitar.
These guys really are a top notch store. Customer service is immaculate and they’re great guys to chat with about all things music, and in my case, guitar. I would GLADLY purchase more instruments from them, as they stocked my case with all sorts of Mammoth Music goodies (Straps, patches, stickers… the works!) I look forward to the day that I get to deal with them again – THEY ARE AMAZING AT WHAT THEY DO!
Mammoth is a great place to shop. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They are also a local business so that’s another perk of going to Mammoth! I’ll go there every time I need something because they are so personable versus going to other places that are chain stores.
Lots of goid equipment, some employees kind of stuck up, have a “better than you” attitude
Knowledgeable and willing to help oh and I called a music instructor from a flyer they posted and he is awesome
I know one of the people who work here the place is great to order from if you are getting musical instruments.
Terrible customer service. Unfriendly staff. Kind of a bummer. Good pedal selection though.
I went in looking for a guitar and asked a guy if I could check out the guitars in the humidity controlled room. His response was “You don’t want to go in there, there isn’t a guitar for less than a grand in there.”
I bought a $1000 acoustic that came with a free adjustment, cleaning and strings. I took the guitar in a year later and had to pay for strings. They said it’d be done early next week on Friday. I went in 2 weeks later and they hadn’t touched it. They said it could be up to a month to honor the free cleaning they promised. I just left with my strings and cleaned it myself.
Nothing but problems. Been going to this place strings and such for 16 years now, but I would say I’m officially done. Would prefer to buy local but…
Staff is unpleasant unless they think you will be spending lots of money. Not knowledgeable. Not courteous. The only thing this place has going for it is a lack of competition.
3. Alaska Music One (formerly Rozwick-Giles Music)
Address: 9380, 9340 Glacier Hwy #43A, Juneau, AK 99801 , Itu , Alaska , United States
I really like their selection, service, and warranties.
Always a fan of guitar center. They’re finally here!!!
Really good place to get all you need, and the staff is always helpful with any questions you might have.
Limited selection compared to other Guitar Centers. The salesman that helped me didn’t seem very happy to be doing it.
This place is stocked with everything, almost a bit much if you are just looking for guitars. They do have a beautiful area for acoustic guitars. There are more than just guitars also. They have drums and snares, and keyboards, and even some wind instruments. All your sound system pieces and parts are piled high too. I might increase to 5 stars after they get personal that are a bit more knowledgeable, but that comes with being open a bit longer… We shall see, they’ve only been open a few months as of this review.
Great prices found the guitar i wanted was in and out in few minutes the guys are friendly
Maskholes only! Refused me entry and didn’t provide a mask. I will gladly shop elsewhere
Manager Mike is a very impolite fellow. I wouldn’t recommend this guitar center unless you want 100% sass.
Just, disappointed and sad every time I go in there. The place is clean and it’s pretty but lacks service and if you want to buy an expensive guitar or keyboard you have to try hard pretty hard to find someone and most the time when I’ve asked a question most of the answers were idk. I used to be a regular at the one in boise and loved the crew, got my guitar and uke serviced, bought a range of instruments, etc.. loved it. But this one lacks service, no one seems to care or takes the time when I have to have help to unlock any expensive guitars, if I’m going to spend thousands on an instrument then I want to try it. Recently went in for my husband’s birthday looking for a nice Taylor or Martin, by the second guitar the guy never came back and we caught the sales person fooling around with electric guitars just doing his own thing. I really wanted to buy something for my husband’s birthday but was soured by the experience, I would rather pay more for the better service by going to a local store. Don’t know why this one is lacking, and I understand locking up every guitar in this town, but have someone there so we can make sure we are happy with what we are buying please. I’ve had other friends with similar experiences but with keyboards and such. Anyway, hope you guys improve and succeed. Thanks for hearing me out
5. Matanuska Music
Address: 280 N Willow Dr, Wasilla, AK 99654 , Itu , Alaska , United States
Owner is top notch and knows his stuff and hooked me up with my most needed equipment to continue my Rockstar career lol
Knowledgeable technicians on site & great service.
Every one was very helpful
Super nice but can be pricey. If you’re getting a repair, keep in mind you might be paying an hourly rate while the glue dries.
They had everything I needed to fix my acoustic guitar, excellent service.
Was able to make fast repairs
These Guys has absolutely no clue about what they’re selling/doing.
Better drive 100 miles more instead dealing with these non professional “sellers??????”
Keep you money don’t buy here
Purchased a guitar and amp with all of the accessories for a new player. Upon picking up the guitar, the amp I picked out was sold, and another amp was put on the table with no explanation of where the other amp was. The amp was a decent brand, so I didn’t say anything, and the amp was also new. After using the amp, I had significant issues that I had to troubleshoot. Nothing worked. I returned them amp and explained what I had done to troubleshoot, and they did not want to look at it. I asked for the original amp I picked out, and the staff became angry and aggressive. I attempted to calm things down and solve the issue, but then they gave me the amp that I had originally played and asked me to leave. I will never return.
6. Old Town Music
Address: 507 Frontage Rd, Kenai, AK 99611 , Itu , Alaska , United States
I bought an acoustic guitar from here and it’s been the amazing gift I hoped it would be! The owner was super helpful and zero pressure. I’ll be back!
Love this guitar store! Dustin is very helpful and professional.
Very happy with the work done on my old 12-string Guild. Will do business again.
Accused me of stealing my first time in the store, because of the age I supposedly look. Even tho I had items on the counter, and clearly was ready to pay. Not real great service in general. Rude. Won’t be back.
Do not buy a guitar from this store unless you know 100% what your buying is worth what your paying.
I needed a guitar and when there
Payed 300 for a guitar came to find out it was a 75$ guitar from wall mart
Refused to do any return and stated to me
“ that’s just the way we do busyness”
I replied that he had lost a customer and if he continued to do busyness this way it would catch up with him.
Just a heads up.
This place will get you if you let them!
Avoid this place of possible. Since they open at 12 o’clock I sat there till one o’clock and they had yet to open I get the whole musician hours thing but. Not opening for an hour there’s no excuse besides pure laziness. I refuse to give such a business my money and you earn this one star.
7. Music Mart & Studios
Address: 413 Noble St, Fairbanks, AK 99701 , Itu , Alaska , United States
Excellent customer service. I called to see if they had what I needed and they offered to pull the items and have them at the counter for when I arrived. Very friendly staff.
Very helpful staff
Not a wide range when it comes to violin accessories. Still a good music store though.
Walter is awesome!
Needed a set of strings for my 12 string guitar. There was a good selection and the staff was helpful in selecting a fitting set. I was shown a nice case when asked. This place has instruments of all kinds, for all levels of proficiency. They also have lots of teachers who make their services available to students wishing for instruction. When I had a problem with my purchase it was rectified as soon as it was brought to their attention. I will return for other items related to my music interest.
Expensive
I came in with my dad to look at guitars and to ask a price on his old banjo. I know my instruments and how to find the correct prices on used items. The lady who helped us, gave us the correct price, but she was talking down to us the whole time. I have never seen my dad treated so rudely.
Not impressed by their customer service, although I did get what I needed done, thus the 2 stars. I’ve been a few times over a period of 7 years and both times they were rude. I’ve also known people who have said they were rude. I’ll try Pro Music next time perhaps.
8. Wood and Wire Guitars and Music
Address: 3020 Glenn Hwy, Palmer, AK 99645 , Itu , Alaska , United States
My son takes violin lessons here. Great and reasonably priced
I really like this place, just really good vibes here the people were really nice, really easy to talk to, very informative and there was some really beautiful guitars there as well. I haven’t gotten my guitar repaired there yet but when I do I will definitely review that as well.
Great place,,,good helpful staff
With excellent equipment.
Two thumbs up
Nice assortment of guitars and stuff and Todd is awesome go in and check it out
9. Petr’s Violin Shop & Guitar Central
Address: 1408 Hyder St Unit B, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Itu , Alaska , United States
Love the service! Bought my guitar and violin here~
As a father who didnt grow up playing string instruments, I wish i would have found this place sooner. They are very helpful and i learned alot. I bought my daughter a violin for her birthday and they were able to tell me all the things that I wished I had known before I bought it from from Amazon. They were super helpful at getting it to a playable state and I will definitely be buying a violin from them when the time comes. If you’re thinking about getting a string instrument definitely start your search here 1st
The people here know what their instruments and are quite helpful
At least its not a viola
They had small selection of bass’ but, their rosin and other essentials are just way to expensive and cost $80 dollars, not including the instrument.. {Cloth, tuner, stand end stop}
They have no Rickenbacker so they can’t have 5 stars. Otherwise an excellent selection& prices but I felt like the sales person was rather hipster / superior. Though I would love to go back and browse some more I felt like I was a freeloader for not immediately dropping +$500 on an instrument. So shoot me. My philosophy is that browsers become buyers, but I am apparently wrong. I got a good recommendation from them for a tech to fix my ailing bass amp, so my trip there did actually yield commercial transactions, in the end. Good prices, good inventory, good community, goodish staff.
Went to them and they told me the cello I got from amazon was no good, wanted to sell me a 1100 cello. Went to horn doc and it was fixed.
Worst purchasing experience I’ve ever had!!! Staff is very unknowledgable and seems to be solely made up of high school students. Petr himself is very unpleasant, always seems to be in a big hurry, and is haughty as hell. Their selection of instruments is complete crap and has serious quality control issues. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!
Nice selection of stringed instruments.
Young woman at front counter helpful, smiled, and made eye contact.
Guitar room guy not engaging or helpful, more interested in his phone than engaging with me.
Every guitar has a “do not handle” sign with a sign that there is a 5 minute limit on handling a guitar. No place to sit and try an instrument.
Other staff did not acknowledge me at all.
I was the only customer at the time.
I would maybe go back if I needed something but the customer service was absent at the time of my visit.
