Great person to talk to!!!! It was awesome that he would take the time to answer my questions on a guitar.
called for an appraisal on two bass guitars got Joe right away was very helpful and easy to talk to.. thanks Joe..
I’ve been following Joe’s Vintage Guitars on Instagram for a long time and have always been impressed with his selection and the fact that he keeps his prices reasonable in this world of astronomical guitar prices. I recently purchased a dream guitar — a Gibson 345 Stereo. Joe was fantastic in both messages and on the phone describing the guitar and was patient waiting for my wire transfer to go through. The guitar was shipped perfectly and lightening fast. Just a wonderful experience and I would not hesitate to recommend.
2. Front Porch Music
Address: 1711 19th St, Bakersfield, CA 93301 , Kern County , California , United States
This is one of those important stores you want in your city. You want to support a local music shop because they can find things you can’t get anywhere else, and they cut deals nobody else can. There’s also a ton of history here. It’s the best in town.
Everything you need, some real gems in there. Good folks
pretty cool store nice and polite guys work there they sure know a lot about music and instruments.
The store is kinda messy tons of stuff everywhere but I like it anyway 😀
Quite cluttered, but alot of accessories. Might be able to find something surprising.
Somebody said boys club I totally agree. They follow you around like you’re a thief. They don’t give you a chance to browse, and they’re pretty rude.
Went into this place to buy my first guitar back in 1999, I did. They ripped me off and took advantage. But oh well, I guess kids are easy targets. But the thing that really got me was when I asked to mess around on a boogie they had about a year layer, they sent some kid over “so I wouldn’t break it” and that is why they haven’t got a dime more from me. Owner said that too. Being treated like that left a bad taste in my mouth. Could have earned a few grand off me easily if you knew how to treat people
Bought used amp from them online, it arrived poorly packed, and immediately had problems with microphonic tube noise. They were supposed to overnight new tubes to me, but the guy on chat literally said that his boss took the tracking number home. Like they didn’t use computers?! In their chats they never identify themselves personally, so I didn’t know who I was talking to. They said just pack it up and we’ll refund your money… they finally did, but not return shipping. And then they just stopped responding to my texts at all. Very disorganized and disrespectful. Do not do business with them online, you’ll get the runaround.
3. Nick Rail Music
Address: 5127 Ming Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93309 , Kern County , California , United States
Customer service is great. They’re experts so whatever you’re asking they know what you need. They’re all very professional, courteous, and most of all attentive. I had came in for my daughter to get her very first violin. They explained all the necessities she needed required for her school specifically. They weren’t trying to sell more than what was needed. They’re overall hands down a go to place. Love it!
Very helpful and informative, staff was very kind and welcoming would leave more stars if I could
Very nice and helpful at this music store! Thank you
Although I will say they are helpful and polite inside the store, I’m rating them a 2 because they promised a part that I ordered almost a month ago would only take 7-10 days to come in. It has now been over 25 days and it’s still not in stock. I finally decided to order it on amazon and I will get it tomorrow.
They were good when they first opened in Bakersfield. Now… After nearly 4 months of waiting, half of my instrument repairs are coming back. Great company as long as you aren’t expecting anything timely.
4. Guitar Center
Address: 3428 Ming Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93309 , Kern County , California , United States
Muy bien recibido pero les falta una persona que horiente.al cliente .
Staff is always helpful. Great deals and friendly people.
Small store, nice people
A cool and casual store. No pressure sales and just a great staff also huge selection of everything you could want.
The staff make this a great location. You can see they actually enjoy their work and they try to be very personable and patient, in spite of the fact that the average customer is an idiot.
Unfriendly employees. Was followed in the store when I was looking for something. And was rushed to cash out
Went to the store to buy a guitar nut, they tell me I need to bring the guitar. Second trip, bring the guitar, buy the part, and they give me the wrong part. third trip, I need to exchange the part, can not do it. Nor i can get my money back. Need to make a four trip.
Sad service, never again.
Fourth trip, didn’t even tried to fix the mistake, Joe just gave me my money back, didn’t even ask if I wanted the right part. Lousy customer service.
very quick to take your money on purchasing of items but and I mean a big butt your employees are having too much fun playing guitars or with their friends on the guitars need to concentrate on the customer you never know who comes to the door I’m the lead singer for the two tone Rangers I came in to buy a guitar but we had to chase a guy down take one down that’s not very good for your business line and when you have Headliners coming in incognito to possibly purchase one of your high-end guitars and they’re in the acoustic room playing or guitars I probably will not do business with you no more in Bakersfield California I had to go over the front porch music to buy the guitar that I was interested in buying the price was the same but their willingness to take care of their customers is a 10 out of 10 I only give you one star if there’s anything left I would even give you that as they say in Japan sayonara round eye
Went to ask for a windscreen and a short Latin gentleman that I asked said it’s only what we have hace and pointed at a direction and played the piano , won’t ever go again or recommend
5. Bakersfield Sound Co.
Address: 10715 Rosedale Highway, 1018 18th st, Bakersfield, CA 93312 , Kern County , California , United States
Great staff and awesome service. Beyond helpful when it comes to equipment and instruments. They have a good selection and it’s only getting bigger as they grow! Support your local guitar shop! They have some of the best prices.
Such an awesome place for music supplies! They explained everything! Have a phenomenal selection of guitars and the created their own amp they sell! They do consignment and had a beautiful set of drums for sale too! They also have a sound room and everything!
Great staff. Very helpful and informative.
Great clean place. I would like to return a saxophone I rented for my daughter, who can I contact during this shutdown?
My daughter is renting a violin for school so that’s all I’ve delt with in the store, buuuut they do have great customer service.
Good prices
I went today for my first time and loved it man these guys are awesome I recommend these to everyone
Guy with shaggy hair and tall is very rude, think is name was Arron or something,
Called these guys and talked to someone for about 15 mins about selling some audio equipment, and was confirmed that they purchase out rite and was even asked what I was trying to do with everything and I said I’m trying to sale it to pay some bills and he said ok gotcha bring it over tomorrow, then I get there and they act like they don’t know what I’m talking about and told me they don’t purchase items for cash. Employees gave me wrong info

We went in to talk about options for our 12 year old daughter who decided she wanted to play a flute. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We had planned on renting and ended up purchasing a great starter flute at a price we couldn’t pass up. They also assisted us in our needs for finding a piano tuner. We will definitely return for any of our music needs.
Great place to go for all of your music needs. Nice friendly people working.
Ed serviced my very old and very neglected grand piano. He brought it from almost unplayable to a fine instrument. His prices are fair and he he’s highly skilled in his trade. Will definitely do business again.
Buena atención con sus clientes y familiar.
Those who feel they got screwed most likely feel that way with many other businesses…choosing a trumpet or tuba, etc is solid evidence
Store manager was great. Confident, knowledgeable, friendly. Bought a Casio for my kids and I. Store needs an “Open” sign….it looked closed to me.
Service is bad. Called in a day early for a part and they told me to come in the next day they said they didn’t have it because of a “mix up”. My band grade is dropping since I can’t practice without the part I need.
It’s a whole process to rent an instrument. The contract is Ridiculous. They’ll only let you rent and OLD trombone (or any instrument for that matter) for minimum three months it’s not like the image they give that the rentals are only for a month. -_- would not recommend.
Tl;dr – Was promised same day service. Left without anything done 4 days later.
I phoned California Keyboards on Tuesday morning and asked, “If I buy a pack of strings, could I pay an extra fee to have you restring my guitar?”
The person on the phone replied, “Yes. OR if you have your own pack of strings, you could just bring the pack and the guitar in and pay for a restring.”
This was great news. I had a bunch of packs of strings since I order in bulk.
“How long will that take?”
“If you bring it in the morning, it will probably be done early the same afternoon.”
Perfect! I was really strapped for time, and I live up the street. This seemed like it was going to work out really well.
I take my guitar and strings in. They put my name in the system. I get a printout for a work order, and I’m on my way.
Two days go by with no phone call, so I call them. It isn’t ready. I believe there was no explanation beyond that they just hadn’t gotten to it yet. So without anything else, I hang up and think I’ll either get a call later that day or early the next morning.
I’m writing this on Saturday — 4 days after dropping it off — and no phone call. So I drive up the street with my purchase order to get my guitar whether it’s done or not.
Surprise: It isn’t done.
The only saving grace is that whoever the manager on duty was offered a free pack of strings for my troubles which I declined since I already buy in bulk. He then pivoted to offer a discount on the next repair if I mention this instance, but I’d only bring my guitar back here if I were desperate at this point.
The fact of the matter is that I personally know people at the other music shops in town, so I made a special effort to come here rather than support my other friends’ businesses. Granted, it WOULD have been convenient for me due to the location, but it ended up being more headache than I had planned.
I didn’t feel like a priority. And I wasted more time by coming here rather than just doing it myself or taking it to a friend to support THEIR business.
8. La Jaula Music
Address: 2105 Edison Hwy, Bakersfield, CA 93305 , Kern County , California , United States
Legitimately one of the most important places in Bakersfield. Support them. They enrich our city, and teach new generations music history and Identity. Their concerts venue in the back is fantastic.
One of a kind venue, one of a kind staff. Fantastic!
Best record store in the business! Great Concert venue. One of bakersfield’s rare diamonds
Also has cassette
My partner called World Records to ask if a vinyl they were looking for would be getting additional stock. After the call ended, the owner called my partner back to lecture them about calling the store?? Honestly a shame
weird attitude towards taylor swift fans. if you can’t respect taylor and other artists who aren’t in genres you typically like then maybe don’t run a record shop? you’re meant to serve fans from all corners of music, respect artists especially those who have helped the increase in vinyl sales VASTLY
don’t be mean to people because of what music they like! being passive aggressive to swifties because they have a passion for music is ironic, because record shop employees should be passionate about music as well! spread kindness 🙂
10. Alan’s Kern Guitar World

Wrong Number. I didn’t talk to anyone there, but when I called the number, I got a guy who sounded none-too happy when I asked if this was a music shop. Sorry!

“Hey Bakersfield, guess what? We’ve got a gem right in downtown, and it’s called Bakersfield Sound Co! This isn’t just another music store; it’s like a second home for us music lovers. The staff? They’re not just salespeople; they’re like your personal music advisors. And the live music? Man, it’s like a mini-concert hall right in our backyard. Downtown just got a whole lot cooler, all thanks to these guys!”

Specialized in acoustic and electric guitar maintenance. Set-ups , restorations, amp repair along with a full line of part , accessories and used gear keep them. #1 with area musicians. They also offer lessons in all instruments and feature. Steve Hall as lead instructor.
Close to home. Great to pick up strings or picks. You can also have instruments repaired and serviced here.
I love this store. Not only are the people there friendly and helpful, most of the prices are a good deal here too! There was only one item I can think of that I bought that wasn’t wonderful, and after talking to the Carlos, His gave me a great deal on it. I don’t know what else you can ask for in a music store. They’re friendly and the have great gear and good prices.
Love the people that work here. I’m not an audio expert, I was just looking for a good starter guitar and they went above and beyond to find something for me. I ended up deciding on this Yamaha guitar for a really good price. Whether you’re looking for starter products or professional help you can’t go wrong with them!
These guys came to us personally to discuss what we needed. They worked with us on a price and even found cheaper options that would work better for us than what we thought we needed. They genuinely love what they do and it shows. Thanks again!
