I have two kids in lessons here. My daughter is learning drums and my son is learning ukulele. Both really enjoy it! They always are looking forward to going to their next lesson. The place itself is very nice and welcoming. The owner and other teachers are very friendly, fun, and also helpful. They’ve answered my questions and given advice on where and what kind of instruments to get when we decide to get some of our own.Overall very awesome experience and love that the kids have the opportunity to learn instruments here in the area!
My fiancé took singing lessons for a few months and LOVED it! Everyone was so kind, and it was truly an amazing experience. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
Best music lessons in town! Good employees, owner is really nice and funny! I love all the recitals!
Mike, the owner of Taylorville Music Lessons, is an awful human being, and I 100% would not recommend his place of business to anyone. He charges outrageous prices and treats his employees badly. I’m sure that if you know him, then you already know this. He is a chauvinistic pig and just an overall uncouth person. Let your friends and family know to steer clear. There are better and more affordable options in the area. He has taken nearly $200 from me without remorse or understanding of a personal issue I have been dealing with under the guise of “running a business and being a company” that is no excuse to not have a heart or compassion for the people who trusted him with their debit card information.
I am a big fan of supporting small businesses, however the owner of this one might be one of the worst people I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting. From treating his employees unfairly to scaring autistic children this guy spans the full spectrum of awfulness.
2. Halpin Music Company
Address: 139 S Locust St, Centralia, IL 62801 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
Neil, the gentleman that runs this store is top of the line, I’ve been to music stores where they act like they don’t want you to touch anything and some of this I understand, but I enjoyed the time I spent there and the prices were right, I will buy my next guitar from Neil
Great local music store. Neil Miller always gives you the best deal possible. And I don’t have to drive over an hour to guitar center anymore or buy online and not know what I’m getting.
Haplin helps us with our Patches and Pumper robotic dog on occasion. We take Patches to the city schools every year for fire prevention. They treat us very well and we appreciate the service.
Average music store
Good prices
The website says its open till 5 on Saturday not 3
I had to have my horn sent to Alton because this tech in Centralia is discriminatory against people with disabilities. Had to drive two and a half hours 200 plus miles and no discount for a simple repair I will never use them again thinking about taking legal action.
Good stuff just could be better with details and price
I love working with this family and this company! I ask the Kona Ice Truck to come serve community members after our Spring Music Concert at our school and they come through for me every year. They are prompt, friendly, efficient with crowds/lines, clean and flexible! Very thankful for Gabriel, Tonya and Debbie!
As far as the product goes, the snow-cones are delicious. My students enjoy having the freedom to mix the popular flavors and like buying the keepsake color changing cups and getting the cup that comes with the Hawaiian lei! I haven’t tried the more gourmet flavors, but the list of choices is extensive if you look on the website!
Highly recommend this business.
The ice is good you said I could only get one and the left before I could get more flavoring
It is so good I really like it
4. Mike’s Music

Best in the area. Always courteous and knowledgeable.
Haven’t been in the store for like 25 years!
Called to check on strings
Nice little pocket shop to pick up some accessories and or a guitar you had no idea was there lol. Drum sticks are decently priced too although limited to two brands. I absolutely love the mascots too!
Nice guy.
5. Walmart Supercenter

Store was clean. The lady at the self checkout done a wonderful job helping us after I messed up the card reader..the lady in the eye care could be a little more helpful
Wonderful
Great store! Fast service!
I am mad at walmart for closing our walmart down in our town
It’s Walmart everything under one roof,
More selections than Kroger
I am not happy with the store not enough checkers And I will not use self checkers I dont work there .
It’s cool
Gotten to be horrible to shop at. Can’t find anything. Worker’s are always in your way and not friendly. Discontinued many name brand items. Some things they have gotten to be higher prices than Kroger.
6. LP Coffee & Creamery
Address: 715 W Springfield Rd, Taylorville, IL 62568 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
Staff is always very friendly and helpful with questions! Everything always tastes great!
Great place, with friendly people. The coffee is fantastic and sonos the atmosphere: modern and open.
Very good
Good coffee
Unfriendly employees
They charge extra for espresso shots.. the girl at the window doesn’t know what she is doing, was trying to get me to pay twice and charge me $15 for 2 medium coffees. We said never mind and left we won’t be back
Very nice place we did not like the ice cream weird taste
All in all LP was fine at best, coffee was meh and not one employee was wearing a mask, and if they were, they were not wearing it properly!
7. Perks Music
Address: 502 E 13th St, Centralia, IL 62801 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
the best place to buy from someone someone who has a brain…….
Been a customer for years. Highly recommend.
My 2 year old daughter has been showing signs of interest in the drums. Being new to the Southern IL area I did my own research for classes & a teacher my child was comfortable with. The Practice Pad is a place that my child never wants to leave when our sessions are over for the day. I couldn’t ask for better!
9. Rebecca’s Antiques
Address: 100 W Market St, Taylorville, IL 62568 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
Rebecca’s Antiques is my place to go when I need the unique gift for a friend or family member. Rebecca is very knowledgeable about her items. I learn something new every time I’m there. Her store is a great asset to Taylorville.
Beautiful. Nice selection
Never heard of it and never been there
10. Dollar General
Address: 1102 N Cheney St, Taylorville, IL 62568 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
Gotta love Dollar General! One dollar corn chips are the BOMB!!!
Good sales on milk, Pepsi, birthday cards, & grandson’s socks. Easy 2 find items. Drawback on parking is that if you miss driveway, must go to next business. Then walk over curb.
Fast
Helpful and courteous staff!
Lower prices, organized and a clean, friendly store
The Nokomis Dollar General store was looking awfully NASTY again. I don’t understand why this store has so many problems keeping and maintaining a properly clean and stocked up store?
Taylorville Dollar general is so dirty, and cramped. Kincaids is awesome
The manager is very rude and they have changed everything not happy
11. Kidder Music
Address: 7728 N Crestline Dr, Peoria, IL 61615 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
They have a good facility, a wide variety of merchandise, and a good staff. Found what I needed and was assisted by multiple friendly people.
Very helpful. Good selections.
Great selection of quality instruments for rent or purchase. We have rented or purchased several instruments over the past 7 years. Music instructors are very good. Service is very prompt.
Friendly and knowledgeable
The store is pretty good. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They take the time to help you find what you are looking for, whether it’s sheet music, instruments, or accessories. They also offer lessons with some great teachers.
Great lessons. Decent store for beginners.
Have issues taking money off cards don’t say why just say sorry we can’t help
12. B & J Music Inc.
Address: 3232 N Vermilion St, Danville, IL 61832 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
Love the staff!!! Always great service and fair prices!!!
A great place to get your musical needs and they have many teachers to choose from
Awesome place. Great employees
Friendly family-owned business, offering decent selection of new and used guitars. However, main selection is limited to Fender.
great place if your into fender guitars
Its a good friendly place.
Over priced guitars, low quality at that. Better off shopping online. I have returned three different guitars now due to bad necks, and did I mention the guitars were over priced?
This is the company associated with my children’s school. My oldest got an instrument through them and i did the installment plan to pay for it. It wound up being way more expensive than it needed to be.
So when my youngest wanted to join i opted to buy outright. Unfortunately she was unable to make the instrument work for her. Her instructor urged us to switch instruments and assured us that since it hasn’t been that long, they would surely work with us. I called and a snotty lady answered. She chided me for buying instead of renting. She said she couldn’t help me, but would speak to someone else and call me the next day. 3 weeks later and still nothing. The music teacher said she would see what she would do. When my daughter came home with the schools demo model it was obvious they were unwilling to help Now I’m stuck with this instrument and still need something of her own for her to play.
My son’s instrument is now in need of repairs and I’m looking elsewhere as i no longer trust them to do right by us.
If you can go elsewhere, do it.
Practically nothing for bass guitar and they were completely out of friendly customer service.
13. Redbox
Address: 1530 W Springfield Rd, Taylorville, IL 62568 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
Easy access, numerous great deals, friendly staff, all around savings discounts!!
Nice place. The owner Shannon is great.
Not too bad, found a few goodies. I’d rather buy resale. Staff is definitely rude so it’s a tradeoff…
We made a few decent finds but had to leave after a minute because we had to use the bathroom and there was no public restroom. For me that is a No-No LOL. So for me it’s just okay. Hardly any think that a man would be interested in. Oriented more for women.
This is an amazing place, my BFF Eileen turned me on to. I forget the lady’s name that works there but she has always been super nice to me. Even when I show up 30 minutes before closing & by a TON of stuff. Thank you for being nice. I look forward to my trips when I am in town.
Nice stuff but the female behind the counter is by far the most hateful person I have ever dealt with. This is far from the first time I’ve been in there and she has this attitude every single time. I wanted to purchase an item but actually changed my mind and walked out due to her extremely unprofessional, and disrespectful attitude. Every time I have been here in the past she acts the same way. Professionalism is NOT her strong suit. She treats customers like they are an inconvenience. Great place to shop, as long as you don’t have to deal with her!
My fiance & I just came in from Springfield to take a look as first time customers before 4pm (you may change time you close on Google not just on your sticker outside) right after another couple whom you let look around but told my fiance & I we couldn’t look around even while you had a line of people still to check out & it once again was before 4pm! You let us know the hours for another day. . Don’t worry we won’t ever be coming back & if you treat every customer like you did us I don’t know how you are still open!!!! PS: If I could rate you a half star I would!
The owner was not so polite however, the place was very interesting And very full of everything amazing:)
17. Axes Music Group
Address: 19715 South La Grange Road Suite 3, Mokena, IL 60448 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
Great service. And an awesome selection. They didn’t have what I was looking for yet they still called around to try and find it. Awesome place. Definitely will be going back.
Words cannot describe the incredible service Axes Music has provided me for years. Not only have the incredible talented staff taught me how to play many instruments, they have carefully guided me into a career in music which I absolutely love. This business is absolutely incredible and each and every member of their staff is extremely talented, and very friendly. Overall Axes Music is the place to go for music lessons, instrument service, and professional recording.
Super friendly!
18. Byassee Music and Sound
Address: 521 W Main St, Marion, IL 62959 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
Was shown a reasonable older guitar I was looking for and it was matclear that it was as good as I thought
New management is great, prices are good and the staff is always helpful. They have been a very good asset for our church and our PA system. They also have some great teachers for students of various instruments.
Best place ever to me
Had everything we needed.
Really nice people, just very overpriced
They sold me a violin for 2,000 and when I had it appraised the specialist said they cost $100 for a set of three. I will never do business with them again and I urge anyone to go elsewhere
19. Make’n Music
Address: 780 W Frontage Rd, Northfield, IL 60093 , Kincaid , Illinois , United States
This is a great place for lessons and buying quality guitars for a good price!
Knowledgeable staff, friendly, lots of cool gear you won’t find at Guitar Center.
Mike and the guys at Make’n Music were such a pleasure to deal with. I live in California and they’re located in Illinois. They had a guitar that I wanted and I didn’t have the cash readily available to buy it. But I did have a guitar that I knew had some good value. Long story short, I emailed them about doing a trade and how it would work out since we lived in different states. Mike, broke down the process and reassured me that the trade would go smoothly. The trade went as smooth as butter and needless to say I am a very happy customer and will definitely be doing more business with the guys at Make’n Music. Thanks guys!
Great people. Real nice, know what they’re talking about. Take their gear over the local competition because they just know it better, even if it isn’t spooky. Their techs are very likely great but weren’t in-site available when I visited. It’s still a beautiful shop.
check em out
Great service
Store is really different from the earlier locations off Milwaukee Ave., Ohio St., and Artesian. Even the store off Hubbard – after the move from Artesian – had far more inventory.
Though I could be wrong, it seems as though the days of finding tons of high-end boutique, FCS, GCS and PRS guitars hanging on the walls is gone. Also gone are the days of 8-10 really cool high-end amp makers being represented, including several products on the floor from builders like Elmwood, Bogner, Matchless, Victoria, Fuchs and on and on. The effects offerings are also a small portion of what they used to be.
Not quite sure what happened to the store the past couple/few years. Used to be, far and away, the finest boutique shop in the country (used to get regular visits from cats like Billy Gibbons, Keith Richards and many others that would fly in just to buy gear).
I wish the current guys the best of luck. And hope they have a long and healthy ride. Would be cool to see the store return to its former glory years, when it was The Grand Daddy of cool gear.
It is always closed. Make sure you check its web site to see if it is open.
