One-stop shop for all your musical needs! Knowledgeable & friendly staff. Fun store to visit even if you’re not a musician.
A variety of all your instrument needs.
The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Very helpful employees in this store not only were they helpful but patient and kind. A lot of musical stuff.
Surprisingly great selection of ukuleles. Went in without knowing anything about the store and found a massive trove of my favorite instrument. Sales people were very friendly and helpful…not pushy at all. Had a great experience and will be back when I’m back in town and ready to make a purchase.
Prices seemed reasonable, too.
Terrible customer service. Unfriendly staff. Kind of a bummer. Good pedal selection though.
I went in looking for a guitar and asked a guy if I could check out the guitars in the humidity controlled room. His response was “You don’t want to go in there, there isn’t a guitar for less than a grand in there.”
I bought a $1000 acoustic that came with a free adjustment, cleaning and strings. I took the guitar in a year later and had to pay for strings. They said it’d be done early next week on Friday. I went in 2 weeks later and they hadn’t touched it. They said it could be up to a month to honor the free cleaning they promised. I just left with my strings and cleaned it myself.
Nothing but problems. Been going to this place strings and such for 16 years now, but I would say I’m officially done. Would prefer to buy local but…
Staff is unpleasant unless they think you will be spending lots of money. Not knowledgeable. Not courteous. The only thing this place has going for it is a lack of competition.
3. Guitar Center
Address: 2880 Seward Hwy, Anchorage, AK 99503 , Lake and Peninsula Borough , Alaska , United States
They are simply awsome from the door to the back of the store. Mercy and Selina in particular are 5 out of 5 with the customer service. And every rep in between. I went from a nervous newbie to feeling at ease. Good vibes.
Ace Scott is the best. He’s extremely knowledgeable and super helpful!
I visited the store for the first time today. I was in the market for a new guitar and Amp for my children and had no idea what to get for a beginner. There was a sales associate by the name of Brad who had nothing but knowledge and an easy way of explaining to me the ins and outs of buying a guitar. I was a little bit intimidated by the large selection of instruments, but Brad gave me good guidance on a guitar and Amp. If I am need of another instrument, I will be heading back to here. Thanks guys
Purchased a used guitar here last year for around $100.00 or less. I do not like it. It is poor quality sound. I feel I got took.
It’s guitar center, they ain’t bad it’s your stereotypical retailer. Staff is friendly but your much better off going to a independent retailer like Mammoth Music of Anchorage Guitar Central much more personal approach and supporting local business.
This place is stocked with everything, almost a bit much if you are just looking for guitars. They do have a beautiful area for acoustic guitars. There are more than just guitars also. They have drums and snares, and keyboards, and even some wind instruments. All your sound system pieces and parts are piled high too. I might increase to 5 stars after they get personal that are a bit more knowledgeable, but that comes with being open a bit longer… We shall see, they’ve only been open a few months as of this review.
When purchasing microphones, go to your local shop and talk with musicians that actually know the differences between products. I purchased a mic that was $140 that i cannot return. okay. great. i was sold something by rude staff that i cannot return. i can get over this. So i purchase an XLR cord to set this mic up to my Mac desktop. IT STILL DOESN’T WORK. I’m now $165 into this and still cannot use any of the equipment I got, nor can I exchange for a microphone that will fit my needs even though everything is still brand new and not damaged. I did purchase insurance so I guess since this location sucks so much, its almost better off the break it and file a claim. i hate the staff at this location and after spending hundreds of dollars with Guitar center, i will never use this company again
They are choosing to discriminate against those who cannot wear masks. My review can only change once I’m allowed to shop here.
Every time I call this location, the employee on the phone always has an attitude. It’s as if they talk down to you or if you don’t know what you’re talking about when asking a simple question. One of them was even a manager. That type of customer service is poor. I highly recommend going to a local shop instead; they’re much more friendly. Only reason why this review isn’t 1 star is because one employee was actually helpful and professional on the phone. I would only go here for emergency situations or last minute purchases.
4. Petr’s Violin Shop & Guitar Central
Address: 1408 Hyder St Unit B, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Lake and Peninsula Borough , Alaska , United States
The girl that works there is a nice girl, very helpful and kind. She adds to the store. Love the guitars especially the Fenders.
Petr’s Violin is great they are always helpful and willing to go extra to help you and get you what you need. Everyone is awesome
Will at anchorage guitar central “peters violin shop” always takes care of anything i need
They had small selection of bass’ but, their rosin and other essentials are just way to expensive and cost $80 dollars, not including the instrument.. {Cloth, tuner, stand end stop}
Friendly and informative staff
They know a lot about instruments here and the store seems nicely stocked with the essentials.
Went to them and they told me the cello I got from amazon was no good, wanted to sell me a 1100 cello. Went to horn doc and it was fixed.
Went to have my viola restrung with new strings. Wasn’t as expensive as I had thought it would be, ($72 for all new strings and a new bow)To my surprise when I got it home my “A”string sounds awful! I’ve played cello and viola for a long time, so I’ve ruled out poor playing, and the instrument is of excellent quality. Kinda bummed.
The other down side was the lady that first talked to me was rude and not helpful. I wrote it off as a bad day but when I went to pick it up she was still kinda rude. She treated me like I knew nothing and had little to no respect for my opinions as well as experience. Please address costumer service.
Petr is taking advantage of being one of the few violin shops in town. He is charging $63.00 for a pair of d’addario helicore full size violin strings. You can find them online anywhere from $33.00- $38.00. I am all about keeping a small business alive and don’t mind an up charge to do so but come on. The strings don’t even come in the original packaging so he is obviously getting them in bulk. Give us a chance to support you Petr’s Violin Shop.
5. Matanuska Music
Address: 280 N Willow Dr, Wasilla, AK 99654 , Lake and Peninsula Borough , Alaska , United States
Great customer service! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff!
My first time in there. All in all, my needs were simple, just bought a case. Easy in and out. Nice enough folks.
Went in with my old guitar, and left with my old guitar and a satisfied smile.
Friendly and helpful, they do what they can to assist you in everything you need.
The staff there is great!!
Unfortunate that this is the only shop in town. They’re pretty expensive for almost everything. I’ll stick to Amazon.
Purchased a guitar and amp with all of the accessories for a new player. Upon picking up the guitar, the amp I picked out was sold, and another amp was put on the table with no explanation of where the other amp was. The amp was a decent brand, so I didn’t say anything, and the amp was also new. After using the amp, I had significant issues that I had to troubleshoot. Nothing worked. I returned them amp and explained what I had done to troubleshoot, and they did not want to look at it. I asked for the original amp I picked out, and the staff became angry and aggressive. I attempted to calm things down and solve the issue, but then they gave me the amp that I had originally played and asked me to leave. I will never return.
These Guys has absolutely no clue about what they’re selling/doing.
Better drive 100 miles more instead dealing with these non professional “sellers??????”
Keep you money don’t buy here
6. Wood and Wire Guitars and Music
Address: 3020 Glenn Hwy, Palmer, AK 99645 , Lake and Peninsula Borough , Alaska , United States
My son takes violin lessons here. Great and reasonably priced
I love this place it’s like my litter hide away the second you walk through front doors you feel like you just found a little lost jem
Excellent music lessons, wonderful atmosphere and amazing owners
I really like this place, just really good vibes here the people were really nice, really easy to talk to, very informative and there was some really beautiful guitars there as well. I haven’t gotten my guitar repaired there yet but when I do I will definitely review that as well.

7. Pro Music
Address: 300 Front St, Fairbanks, AK 99701 , Lake and Peninsula Borough , Alaska , United States
I have done business with Pro Music for years and they really know their stuff. Craig is the owner and I trust him completely. He is most knowledgeable person I know about musical gear and always gives me the straight answer even if it means buying from some place else. You cannot miss with Craig and Pro Music.
I had a microphone that wasn’t working and thought I needed a replacement. After calling every store in town I could think of I finally found what I needed at Pro Music. When I arrived with the equipment I thought was dysfunctional in tow, the guys kindly pointed out that it took a battery. They tested out a new battery and the microphone worked just fine. I really appreciate that Pro Music didn’t sell me a new $100 item when all I need to do was change out a battery (and they were also very kind about my oversight). Kudos!
I had a guitar shipped from this shop to Colorado and I couldn’t be happier!! Shipping was fast and packaging was done with care. While I’ve never been to the shop, I can tell they are the kind of people that take pride in how they operate and truly care about their customers. I would order from them again and if I ever make it to Fairbanks, I’ll be sure to check them out. Thank you guys!!
Good selection of mining equipment and friendly helpful employees, never bought music supplies. The owner is unfortunately both rude and condescending. Additionally, the prices on smaller items (pans, screens, matting) is extremely inflated. You can get the exact same stuff on eBay or Amazon for a fraction of the price even if you have to pay shipping to Alaska. It is a shame that a local store is so inattentive to customer service that we have to turn to online stores for mining supplies.
