These guys have been working so hard on the music store. I am so proud of all the creativity, innovation, and hard work they put into building this store. They have great customer service and are very community friendly.
Best music shop
A Great helpful staff and a warm atmosphere was so nice and such an awesome addition to this small community. A++
3. Encore Music Center
Address: 725 High St, Auburn, CA 95603 , Lake of the Pines , California , United States
Highly recommend! Great selection of guitars and great customer service.
Larry, John and Jay are all great! They are very knowledgeable and helpful and ready to assist with most inquiries.
Set up my new Encore SG very nicely for a very fair price and got it done within 5 days if bringing it in. Will definitely return for more services.
Have a great variety of stringed instruments as well as a small selection of amps, drums and pianos as well as your day to day guitar accessories. They give lessons for many of their instruments as well.
Awesome staff! Stop in and check out their vintage instruments. Try out something you’ve never even thought of playing and learn from the best. This place has it all!
They are Always great to deal with.
Laid back staff, old school rock n roll music store.
Lots of instruments
Very helpful. Good store. Still, nobody’s perfect.
Needed the nut replaced on my bass and they suggested glueing the nut and that turned out better but I’m now having the nut replaced as I wanted in the beginning due to it still having a crack in it and now there is glue everywhere. Also had him do a light setup and when I got the bass back the truss rod what so tight that I almost could not adjust it and all the strings rattled. They may have costed me a neck.
I went here twice. I did not have a great experience the first time, being made to feel as though I wasn’t good enough to shop here, but decided to give it a second chance instead of supporting Amazon. A price I was quoted on my first visit mysteriously increased by over $10 on my second visit and with no price tags on items, the two men working there verbally discussed the price which continued to increase in front of me. Because I had left myself in a bind without enough time to order from Amazon, I paid their increased price but I will never support this store again.
Great local shop. Very knowledgeable on all instruments.
Wonderful variety great staff from electric guitars,Acoustic Nice selection if a bass is ur instrument of the week.. Strings picks amps…Foggy.Mountain Music
Such an awesome shop with a great selection of gutars and amps! Will definitely be making the drive out here again soon!
Lots of quality products and good service
A nice selection of instruments for the space, though the prices are on the high end.
With so much inventory, don’t expect them to have a handle on what they have in stock, especially if it’s parts or pieces or it isn’t on the floor.
While it may seem like a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, the store offers a plethora of instruments and other musical paraphernalia. Music lessons also offered!
Drove there on Sunday, as Google said they were open. They were not.
Absolutely terrible service. POOR selection of instrument strings (they never buy them) They’ve fired their most charismatic workers. The owner/”manager” will ignore you if she’s on the phone. Had an amp in there for six months that was more broken when I got it back, than when I brought it in, due to their “guitar tech” Steve. Worst music store in North California, if I could give zero stars I would.
Over priced
6. Cherry Records

Every record we have gotten from here has been in great condition. Love this place!
Excellent quality records and excellent service.
Been buy form Al for eons. Great record selection
A bit pricey. Selection is OK – I’ve never seen so many records of John Denver or Lindale Rondstant.
Nice selection. Owner uses a record pricing website that is more expensive than discogs price tool. My biggest issue was that the owner had a large unpriced collection of used records that have recently come in. He refused to sell from this collection of decent records because he “hasn’t gotten around to sorting them yet”. In my experience of similar stores, if a customer finds an unpriced record of interest, the seller will look up the value on the spot and offer it to the customer. Instead, the owner denied access to the collection and continued watching a sports game on his TV. Disappointing to see a business owner that would rather take part in leisure than to tend to his customers.
Mostly a pretty great store. I don’t always buy something, but they have a little bit of everything without it feeling overwhelming, and always something that is a cool find. Check out their used jazz section –always has nice pieces in there. Owner is pretty nice too, will help you look for something if you are searching for something specifically. Price on vinyl plastic sheets is pretty good too. Prices on records are maybe a tiny notch higher than they could be, but nothing outrageous or unfair, and certainly not enough to avoid this place. I recommend coming in and giving them your business!
You don’t snap at customers every time they come in until they’re apprehensive to come at all. Accused me of not spending enough when I’ve spent hundreds there before. Told me not to come at days end. Don’t come unless I know what I want. I tried to be nice, and I was never rude to him. Bad customer service now. To bad, was a gem. Can’t support it anymore.
I hope they Are taking a copy of ID on high end Audio gear purchased at the store so the original owner can retrieve it. I talked to Steve at Audio nerd about this and his answer was you need to leave the state right away?
I traveled over 20 miles just to go to that store, and I arrived around 3:30 on a week day, the open sign was on but there was a note in the window ” be back in 15 minutes ” I waited 20 and still noone showed! I wasted alot of time tring to go the here and will never waste another thought on this place right after this review
7. The Music Store
Address: 4815 Granite Dr, Rocklin, CA 95677 , Lake of the Pines , California , United States
Dalton was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and guided us well about our child’s trumpet. In general, we love the reasonable instrument rental cost and quality of the instruments.
Will recommend the store to others.
Has amazing lessons from really nice and good teachers. Also sells a variety of instruments
Fantastic local music shop. Solid prices, helpful people, friendly environment and great selection
Friendly staff and very helpful.
I rented a used violin for my son from the shop. They said the price was $199. The rental was $35 per month. after two months if you want to own the violin then they said they would deduct the rental amount from the original price. But when we want to buy the used violin they said the price is $299 which is hell more than a new violin. So would recommend not to rent or buy anything from this store.
Great place for all your music needs. The owner even helped us out when we weren’t buying anything from them.
The owner takes great pride in the shop. It’s long been regarded in the community to produce great musicians. My son absolutely loves taking piano lessons there. I highly recommend it!!
Great place and great service. John Rocks! Cameron rocks also..!
Their music selection was a bit small but they had everything I needed at a very reasonable cost.
Did not have a kazoo
The line was crazy long and they were extremely under staffed.
I went shopping at Nicholson for a Martin guitar on a friends recommendation. It’s a good 30 minute drive for me. Turned out to be well worth it! The first thing I noticed were signs on all of the guitars saying “ask for assistance before playing” ! At first I was a bit put off by this, but as I looked at guitars, I considered that to be a good thing because they weren’t handled (or mishandled) by everyone that walked in the door.
Although it was Saturday and they were very busy, I was assisted in a reasonable amount of time. Dave was very helpful, answering my questions, and explaining the differences in the guitars I was interested in. After playing a few different guitars, I Kept going back to the one that was the perfect fit for me. I was pleasantly surprised that Dave had the guitar “set up” including new strings and upgraded bridge, at no extra charge, while I enjoyed a cup of coffee next door. Great customer service! Great guitar, and better price than the “big box stores”!
Great customer service
Brought my brand new Warmoth build for it’s initial setup on a Wednesday. They told me they would have it ready Saturday. I called on Friday and asked if I would be able to pick it up early because I was really excited to play it for the first time. The guitar tech, Andy I believe his name was, went above and beyond and had it finished Friday for me to pick up. It played beautifully, no buzzing, low action, and sounded great. The pricing was extremely reasonable, especially for the quality and professionalism I received. I would recommend this shop to anyone. In fact, I already have.
Love their selection of instruments and music books. Great service. The cafe is awesome! They hold a free Ukulele sing a long on Saturdays, super fun!
Good staff
I haven’t been to this shop in years. Came in recently to look for a specific book. The staff was friendly. The layout of the place is a bit awkward. There is a back section with sheet music but it’s not very apparent at first. Ask anyone at the desk if you need to find it. The sheet music selection is very small.
They had a good collection of guitars, bases, and other stringed instruments. I didn’t see much in the way of brass or woodwinds. Its in a small shopping complex and parking was okay.
This shop is close to my home and has a reasonable selection and decent prices for its size. I don’t mind paying an extra 10% over what I would pay at Guitar Center if I can support small and local business. BUT the service here is pretty sparse and harsh.
As someone else said, customers are not permitted to handle any instruments (including $150 guitars) without assistance, and the assistance can be hard to come by. I kinda feel if you’re gonna spend 4 figures on a piece a gear you outta be able to look it over, feel it, and play it without having someone hovering over you. There are some products customers are not allowed to even LOOK AT, much less handle, without an escort. After all, it’s a music store, not a museum. I understand they don’t wanna have to discount products because someone mishandledthemt, but if that’s your policy it would be nice to have customer service that actually services the customer.
Rude and unprofessional people.
*Allegedly, and in my opinion only*
The staff is cool, and so is the person giving violin lessons. However, the owner is rude to paying customers and even to children.
The owner says you can try out guitars, but really, he will micromanage and demand you buy it if he decides you’ve “used his strings too much.” Why even bother letting people try out guitars if you’re going to make people take off jewelry and anything that could scratch the guitar, and then still find a way to act like they are an inconvenience for playing a guitar when you said they could play? Very bad ownership.
Don’t spend money here, especially on your kids. My kid was given permission to try out a guitar by the staff, and then the owner literally ripped the guitar from my kid’s hands, scolded him for using up too much string, demanded he pay for the guitar, and then kicked us out while our other kid was in a PAID violin lesson. Would give 0 stars, never coming back. By the way, we’ve spent enough money at your store previously to pay for that guitar, let alone the fact that we could’ve paid for it. Way to lose money for yourself And next time you want to disrespect someone’s kid, don’t. Sorry you can’t afford to replace $3 wholesale strings on guitars after customers try them out. Maybe just don’t let people try the guitars since you seemingly can’t mentally handle that. And before you try to lie, we were not disrespectful or damaging your property in ANY way. My kid is very respectful. We actually thought you were joking until you kicked us out. Praying for you.

Always the same artists playing these events. Wish the coordinator would host auditions and have artists submit their reels to bring a more broad base of genres and more local musicians to play here.

I can’t believe the selection of GJ2 Guitars!!! This is easily the best music store I’ve ever walked into. Great selection, and even better service.
Wow! Nor Cal Guitar Supply is great shop! Mike has some amazing guitars in stock and he is very knowledgeable about them! I didn’t buy a guitar today, but I will be back next week to get mine!
