Ordered a Small Rodent from DadShoeGazers and loved it so much that I ordered a second pedal, Flying pig. Couldn’t be more happy with my purchase. Would strongly recommend.
2. Matanuska Music
Address: 280 N Willow Dr, Wasilla, AK 99654 , Lakes , Alaska , United States
We needed a sound system for our wedding and Matanuska Music really pulled through for us. The rental was exactly what we needed at a very affordable price. We had it for the whole weekend and had wireless and wired mics as well. When I had questions while setting up (user error), I was able to call and they patiently helped fix my error right away. The process for renting, picking up, setting up, dropping off all went very smoothly. No issues with feedback or connectivity with the equipment. I couldn’t be happier with with everything, including the customer service!
Best in the valley, great staff and prices!
Honest, good staff
They had everything I needed to fix my acoustic guitar, excellent service.
Nice guys, if you live in the Valley and need work done they are a good bunch to go see.
Purchased a guitar and amp with all of the accessories for a new player. Upon picking up the guitar, the amp I picked out was sold, and another amp was put on the table with no explanation of where the other amp was. The amp was a decent brand, so I didn’t say anything, and the amp was also new. After using the amp, I had significant issues that I had to troubleshoot. Nothing worked. I returned them amp and explained what I had done to troubleshoot, and they did not want to look at it. I asked for the original amp I picked out, and the staff became angry and aggressive. I attempted to calm things down and solve the issue, but then they gave me the amp that I had originally played and asked me to leave. I will never return.
These Guys has absolutely no clue about what they’re selling/doing.
Better drive 100 miles more instead dealing with these non professional “sellers??????”
Keep you money don’t buy here
3. Wood and Wire Guitars and Music
Address: 3020 Glenn Hwy, Palmer, AK 99645 , Lakes , Alaska , United States
The best guitar shop in alaska, hands down. The owner is the coolest most friendly dude around. Always happy to answer any and all questions and help out with anything having to do with guitars and equipment. He is very professional and has an extensive knowledge on instruments and equipment. The only guitar shop I go to.
My son takes violin lessons here. Great and reasonably priced
Great staff very helpful
I really like this place, just really good vibes here the people were really nice, really easy to talk to, very informative and there was some really beautiful guitars there as well. I haven’t gotten my guitar repaired there yet but when I do I will definitely review that as well.
Nice assortment of guitars and stuff and Todd is awesome go in and check it out
Great place,,,good helpful staff
With excellent equipment.
Two thumbs up
Enjoyed specialty coffee made especially for me from the comments I made about my likes in a coffee. People very friendly.
Great food and great company to be had. Love this place!
Great place for meetings and fellowship.
Good coffee and friendly service.
I mainly go there for Big Js BBQ catering but the whole place is lovely w a wonderful deck along back
Am awesome spot! Superior customer service, great atmosphere, great coffee!
Food was very good
So established in 2017 and the movie was in 2001.. do I even need to say more?
The food is bland and not very appealing either.
Tried the pork and brisket dried bland overcooked.
friend brought me some to try he had the bolt sandwich?
was not expecting this fancy plated food at all was expecting it to have that original typical backyard or tailgate style BBQ to it.
None of that. I wouldn’t drive the distance for food that doesn’t
even look like any passion was put into it.
If I wanted something like this but with actual care and passion and love put into it. I would have just bought a ticket and flew over to philadelphia and head straight towards and into dalessandro’s steaks. But I don’t cause I can actually make better food than what these guys push out. And no I will not even throw that out as a challenge.
But if this is what passes for food for those
who have no taste buds be my guess and have a good day
7. Alaska Music & Sound
Address: 1000 Ingra St, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Lakes , Alaska , United States
I am a frequent customer and I really appreciate the knowledgeable, helpful sales people. It’s great to have people who know what they are talking about and you can’t beat their prices.
Always very friendly and professional and knowledgeable. Willing to send you somewhere else if they don’t carry it
Great staff
Great place just a little too pricey on older gear
Great music store with an excellent selection of guitars and sound equipment.
Went in today for a new set of strings and some expertise…the gents behind the counter were too busy talking with each other to take the time to help a customer figure out what to do with an old guitar. The guy that did finally end up helping me wasn’t much of a help and impatient. I’m going to Mikes Music or MatValley Music from now on.
absolutely horrible. rude and had no idea what they were talking about. they tried to have an unlicensed person work on my amp for $75 after they are the ones who messed it up to begin with. i will never go back and i advise anyone else to find another music shop. this place is garbage.
I turned in my guitar for been calibrated a month ago and they didn’t work on it. I never received a call from them. I asked for my refund.
Nothing but problems. Been going to this place strings and such for 16 years now, but I would say I’m officially done. Would prefer to buy local but…
Staff is unpleasant unless they think you will be spending lots of money. Not knowledgeable. Not courteous. The only thing this place has going for it is a lack of competition.
11. Horn Doctor Music Store Inc
Address: 1000 Ingra St, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Lakes , Alaska , United States
Didn’t stay long but I noticed that there are instruments I enjoyed playing. Recently I learned about hand drumming.
The guys that work here are absolutely polite and friendly!! I recognize them for all instruments, not just Trombone ❤️
Great place to go and get your instrument fixed I recommend this music shop to anyone especially out of towners ….!
Nice store nothing fancy. No high end stuff. Little bit pricy for what they’re selling. Very friendly and helpful.
Check it out. But tight space to walk around, but okay.
Nice and informative service
Hello review readers, I bought a pitch pipe from here, only to get home and learn that it was defective. Like many of us up here, we do not live in the Anchorage area, thus my visits to Anchorage are saved for when there are enough things to take care of to justify the drive into town. Needless to say I did not get the pitch pipe tested at home and back in Anchorage within 7 days. This, I just learned, is the return policy for The Horn Doctor. Therefore, when I recently went into the store, told them of the defect, they tested the “D” on the piano, agreed it was not a “D” and responded, it’s outside the 7 day return window, there’s nothing we can do. There is something I can do…. warn others so that we can be careful what we buy here, as they are not willing to stand behind the products they sell.
I agree with the previous review, went to horn doctor, they quoted me $250-500 for my sax to be repaired. Took it to Music Man, $50 and a week later, the sax sings. How does this shop justify $250-$500 when another can do fix it for $50 blows my mind.
12. Red Mojo Recording
Address: Wasilla, AK 99687 , Lakes , Alaska , United States
Athena is a fantastic teacher! I looked forward to each and every lesson. Lots of support, humor, and music. I had a hard time finding a cello teacher and was really excited to find her. I had so much fun and felt so inspired by her that my husband started taking guitar lessons with her.
Athena is such a fun, patient, and highly knowledgeable teacher! Lessons with her fly by. I’d recommend her to anyone as a music teacher!
Best Strings teacher in the Valley, probably in AK. Want to buckle down and chase a music career? She’ll get you there. Want to just have fun and play music? She’ll get you there. Want to learn to play with others? She’ll get you there. Need help with school orchestra? You couldn’t find any better. Ive been working with Athena for 6 years. Loved every minute of it. Plan to continue. Want music? Athena will get you there! Great teacher. Amazing musician! Devoted to music. Come! Try it out! We always need more to play with us!
14. Guitar Center
Address: 2880 Seward Hwy, Anchorage, AK 99503 , Lakes , Alaska , United States
Austin has always been a huge help! He deserves a raise! Their whole staff is great and appreciated for the time they spend answering qiestions.
Service is excellent. Variety of style of instruments is commendable. I’m a drummer, so I was pleasantly surprised see they had a quaint drummer room with cymbals lining the walls and snares on the windowsill. Nearly any instrument you see can be played in the store, including the drums (they have electronic ones outside the drum room and two acoustic ones inside, but this is subject to change as these could be sold).
I stopped in for the first time the other day and was shocked at the size of the store and the incredible inventory. The staff were all picking away at some instrument or another and they were extremely helpful … which was good as I know nothing about anything related to audio equipment and I left feeling like I had just received a private tutorial. Speaking of which, I was surprised to see their instruction center, with several local, accomplished musicians available to teach all levels of students. They also had a repair center available, which was good to learn. For those who podcast or webcast, they have a great assortment of tech products to make your life easier or to help you up your game. If you are just starting, it looked like they had instrument rental available too. There are several small music shops that I love in town, and I always say buy and shop local. With that said, the inventory here, especially where percussion items, guitars, keyboards and microphones were concerned, was incredible. No need to order online.
Great prices found the guitar i wanted was in and out in few minutes the guys are friendly
My boyfriend like to play the bass
Nice new store
A giant chain store that charges for shipping to their store for online purchases. No other chain store does this anymore, but GC needs to tax Alaskans. Shop at your local music store. GC is garbage!
Update: they agreed to refund me for the 4 lessons (the 4 I didn’t use). So i updated to 2star review. I still won’t be doing business with them, but appreciate they at least made it right.
Original: I paid for 6 lessons with a particular instructor. When i returned for the second lesson, I was told they were moved and O had no choice of teacher (I didnt like new guy). So then I went in to get refund on lessons I couldn’t use; I paid for lesson with a particular instructor. They told me that the only thing they would do is let me take lessons, no refund and no merchandise.
The manager, Mark, was such a coward he wouldn’t even come out to speak with me. He had Selina shuttle between he and I, while I waited to be told how I somehow cost them money, despite cancelling my appointments immediately after their bait-and-switch, so other customers could use my timeslot.
Don’t sign up with these people. There are lots of good musicians in town willing to provide better service and honest billing. Guitar Center is the Wal-Mart of music business, with no customer satisfaction guarantee.
Manager Mike is a very impolite fellow. I wouldn’t recommend this guitar center unless you want 100% sass.
15. Petr’s Violin Shop & Guitar Central
Address: 1408 Hyder St Unit B, Anchorage, AK 99501 , Lakes , Alaska , United States
Great service. Had my daughter fitted for her violin. They explained everything to her, not me. Which is great! Couldn’t be happier choosing petr’s
Kristi has been super friendly and helpful, Petr has been an incredible resource for years in maintaining, repairing and general direction on musical instruments for myself and others I know!
Resist the urge to go to giant box stores and be rewarded by awesome customer service and selection!
They had small selection of bass’ but, their rosin and other essentials are just way to expensive and cost $80 dollars, not including the instrument.. {Cloth, tuner, stand end stop}
Friendly and informative staff
Great service, my family has purchased several acoustic guitars and a stratocaster from Petr’s shop. I still regularly use the acoustic that was purchased about 5-6 years ago, no quality problems. Had a problem with one and he provided great service in getting it fixed. Great prices and support.
It was goodness
Went to have my viola restrung with new strings. Wasn’t as expensive as I had thought it would be, ($72 for all new strings and a new bow)To my surprise when I got it home my “A”string sounds awful! I’ve played cello and viola for a long time, so I’ve ruled out poor playing, and the instrument is of excellent quality. Kinda bummed.
The other down side was the lady that first talked to me was rude and not helpful. I wrote it off as a bad day but when I went to pick it up she was still kinda rude. She treated me like I knew nothing and had little to no respect for my opinions as well as experience. Please address costumer service.
the guitar store / repair shop side of the business should be avoided, the guitar tech talks like he knows what he’s doing but doesnt always tell you the truth,
16. Music & Arts
Address: 4623 Old Seward Hwy, Anchorage, AK 99503 , Lakes , Alaska , United States
Hayden Sterling fixed my wifes brothers guitar for free of charge after he told me they were no longer doing consignments as a way of showing good faith. I teach with this guitar every day and it plays like a dream.
If you look at the staff, the same year round staff members are workibg at the store and fI respected them highly before the buyout and I respect them highly now.
Hayden has time and time again done extra things for my family and me as a musician and teacher in the community.
I look at it like this. The Music and Arts store is provided a service that is not another video game store or screen time outlet for kids. They are bringing more music instruments to this state and they are doing things differently. No business that takes over another business does things the same way.
So, if the previous customer service by the same people was awesome, it will continue to be awesome. That beats the hell out of another amazon sellibg first act guitars to sixth graders. The community needs this store and the employees there are going to keep the same level of customer service going.
There will be some differences. I say judge your store employees by the content of their character and allow them the chance to either earn your business or decide to go elsewhere. No need to trash the employees who are now getting healthcare options that didnt have that before.
We are a long time client of the Music Man. Many students, many instruments, music lessons, etc. About 6 months ago I went to inquire about upgrading my daughters saxophone through their trade up program. They offered to buy back the entry level saxophone we purchased from MM and put that credit towards the purchase of the (much more expensive) next level of sax. I went in with my daughter on Friday to complete this task, old saxophone in hand right from the get go. She tried the new sax, loved it, and we went to the register. They then let me know they no longer offered a trade up program for students who purchased their instruments through MM due to new ownership. They also no longer offer a rent to own program. I was surprised they weren’t honoring any of the prior agreements or business plans that MM had offered, which were incredible for students wanting to give an instrument a try. The staff at M&A did “call the owner” who confirmed they were not honoring any former programs offered by the MM, no buyback, no credit towards new instruments, trade ins, etc. After a very frustrating visit, I ended up purchasing the new sax outright, and left with the entry level sax as well. But the business model of Music and Arts is not one that i’ll continue to visit, which is a shame because we really loved the Music Man. I will say Hayden was fabulous to work with at Music and Arts and very empathetic about parents, like myself, who were long time clients of the MM. M&A has lost my future business, we’ll be going to the Horn Doctor from here on out.
