Loved here in Douglasville since 93 and but as long as I can remember Jackson’s music was always great and years later when I started playing the guitar and trying new pedals and strings, Jackson’s always had what I needed. And it’s true in 2022.
Great well stocked music store. Friendly and professional staff.
Love the people who are in the building. What age do yall hire?
Music is awesome
I’ve been here several times and they are constantly helpful and efficient. They took a look at my cello at no cost and let me know it didn’t need to be fixed yet. I appreciate their honesty.
Knowledgable staff, who are helpful but not pushy. I have been getting music supplies from there for more than 10 years and not once have me or my family had an issue.
As any business, it is made up of people. I have been a musician for 25 years but these guys treat you like you are an idiot every time you come in. I even sent my wife up there to ask for something specific and these morons tried to tell her that I was stupid for wanting what I needed. Humility and professionalism goes a long way. I went in to give them a shot on a $4k acoustic that I would up purchasing. Could not get them to treat me serious and I had cash that day!! Never, ever use this place.
Very unhappy with the service on a product exchange. Came into the store this morning and made a purchase very possibly a four-star transaction. They were very helpful the sales guy that helped us initially. But upon returning to the store to exchange after realizing that the wrong mic cord was purchased the customer service received from the manager was very inappropriate. The salesman that sold us the cord initially apologized that he assumed that we needed the cord that he sold us the first time. So he apologized and went back to get the manager to do the exchange. The manager was clearly disgusted with us because we wanted to exchange the cord that was only two dollars difference in price. We even said that he could keep the change. He was typing on the keyboard very hard and just looking at us and like he didn’t want to be bothered and basically threw the original receipt back at us. Maybe he was having a bad day. He made a comment to the salesman about another customer in the store who was playing a guitar saying “why is he even here?” The salesman said he didn’t know. So maybe the manager was having a bad day.I don’t know but don’t take it out on your customers. I surely will not be back.
People there are polite enough, but have no business sense, if you’re not familiar with the music industry they will belittle you. Do not sell equipment to them, they only do consignment (which is a very outdated idea imo), and offer a 70/30% which is higher than typical music shops.
3. Guitar Center
Address: 2480 Briarcliff Rd NE Suite 13, Atlanta, GA 30329 , Laza , Georgia , United States
It’s was awesome!!
And Glenn + Kenny is a fantastic duo!!
Corrin, Thanks for the Best Customer Service.
Awesome staff! Very friendlyand knowledgeable. Guitar selection was big but now diverse. However, I feel this applies to all Guitar Centers.
Bien
They didn’t have someone to restring my guitar when I needed the most
One of the staff was very sexist. He insisted on teaching my sister how to use a shaker. And they don’t have a great selection of lights and light boards
Staff is only there to up sell, has absolutely no interest in actually helping.
Bad customer service. Matter of fact it a black guy and I’m black. He had an attitude about a return. If it doesn’t work and I can’t use it then I want my money back. He acts like he owns the store. Never I will shop there again. He’s lucky that I didn’t get his name. I will put him on front street
4. Earthshaking Music
Address: 648 McDonough Blvd SE, Atlanta, GA 30315 , Laza , Georgia , United States
Called them with questions about a Marimba. These guys were SO helpful and patient with answering my questions.
Visited while in ATL for work. The only independent guitar store left in the city. Very friendly knowledgeable guys, a great store
A most excellent store with most excellent service. These dudes let me play through every bass amp they had in stock to find the one that suited my needs. No badgering, just good gear talk and a great recommendation. I couldn’t be happier and definitely recommend checking them out.
Solid.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, great instrument options for guitars and percussion. The location is not the best part of town; otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars.
There is a lot I like about this place, but there is definitely a problem with sexism here. The staff seems to be entirely white and male, and one staff member in particular has consistently been very patronizing to me. Without any prior familiarity with me, he consistently assumed I lack any knowledge or expertise. He told me things about my own gear as if I couldn’t possibly understand it on my own. He told me that I would be able to settle on one type of guitar I liked once I had “some experience.” At one point, while trying out a guitar, I noted it was out of tune. I was about to tune it when he quickly took it from me, saying he would be able to tune it faster than I could. (This did not turn out to be true. He actually seemed to have some trouble with the amp’s tuner.) This particular employee has been there the last few times I’ve been in, and from other employees I’ve experienced a remote surliness. I understand this is the traditional culture of music stores, but I personally am not interested in participating anymore. It’s a shame, because I think the store has a good selection and good prices, and it’s in my neighborhood. But until the culture at the store changes, I’ll unfortunately be using ebay.
Selling used harmonicas at brand new prices. No boxes, sales staff insist the cases Are the boxes and are all brand new. None sealed.
Opened 2 and saw scratches on the plates.
We were looking for a pre-owned Taylor or Martin acoustic guitar. We’re from out of town and had somewhere to be so we only had about 25 minutes to look around. At first everyone was nice while we looked around, both of our kids are involved heavily in music so they spent their time there trying out instruments to which the gentleman attending (I could assume owner) was kind and attentive. Until we turned down sale of a keyboard, at which point he decided to approach my autistic son while on a small drum kit and scream at him for being too big for it. I’m no fan of leaving places in handcuffs, so I didn’t cave in his face, I decided a well deserved poor review and exposure to the public what a peice of trash he is would suffice. Trying Dirt Cheap Music nearby instead.
*update following response from the owner
It is fair to say that your employee had a right to address the issue, but screaming and belittling an autistic child isn’t the way to go about it. Furthermore, my initial feelings of rage as a protective father are quite normal and my decision to take a more appropriate route is not something I am ashamed of in the slightest. Neither of them damaged anything and nothing was kicked or struck with any kind of force by either child. You responded defensively and completely missed the point. To scream at the child in an aggressive manner, autistic or not is unacceptable and the employee could have delivered the exact same message in a better tone and achieved far better results. I honestly can’t imagine any scenario that aggressively yelling at a person in your store achieves any positive results.
5. Big House Guitars
Address: 2323 Cheshire Bridge Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30324 , Laza , Georgia , United States
These guys did an excellent job working on my Johnny A. I couldn’t be happier with it. I’ve been in here several times now since the ownership change. Prices are very reasonable now, customer experience and the selection of new and old stuff is great.
Great people and service.
Great store! Super nice staff and awesome vintage gear. They were nice enough to give me a free shipping box, too!
The staff was very friendly and very attentive. All the gear seems to be in great condition, but overall the prices are a too high for this musician’s budget. Watch out for that undisclosed “checkout fee” 😉
Friendly and professional. Offer a fair price and paid promptly
Beautiful collection of guitars on sale and consignment, plus a pretty decent record shop!
I don’t like writing negative reviews and try to work it out in good faith before. I spent a LARGE sum of money on instruments at Big House Guitars and got burnt. Upon the inspection I (luckily!!) requested, the $$$$$ vintage Les Paul turned out not to be true to representation (only 1 PAF pickup instead of two … oops, sorry for the mix up!). I still decided to proceed and worked out a deal including several trade in instruments. They simply didn’t honor it: I received one guitar with cracks, which they half-assedly tried to pin on UPS before telling me it was like that when I tried it… Nice! They never took my guitars agreed as trade-ins, leaving me on the hook for selling them… I called Russ the store owner many times, who ghosted me, leaving me to receiv lip service by email from the crew. VERY disappointed. It’s a cool shop and the guys seem friendly. But sadly, I wouldn’t buy anything ever again from them. BUYER BEWARE.
Disregard, disrespect and unprofessional…
I had a horrible experience at this store. They told me it would take 7 days to change the strings and when I went to get the guitar it was just as I left it. They didn’t even touch the guitar.
I wanted to buy a Gibson and didn’t buy it because of my bad experience. They missed an opportunity for additional business, and I will never visit this store again.
I do, however, recommend Maple Street Guitars which in my opinion is the best guitar shop in GA. I was very happy with my experience there! They`re professionals.
Went to Big House for son’s 24th birthday present: his first ever guitar. Unfortunately this is not the place for that. If you’re not an experienced guitarist, expect to get dropped like a hot potato.
6. Musician’s Warehouse
Address: 245 N Lumpkin St, Athens, GA 30601 , Laza , Georgia , United States
Great selection of guitars and equipment. Top notch service. Ed is the man.
Musician’s Warehouse is a great locally owned music store in Athens! I emailed the owner, Ed, about a bass I had been looking for – which I couldn’t find at any of the big box stores – and sure enough, Ed had it in stock! I drove two hours to get there. The location is very nice, parking is convenient, and the staff was very helpful! The price was excellent and they even let me play it for a couple hours before I made the decision…overall wonderful experience! I hope to do business with Musician’s Warehouse again soon!
Musician’s Warehouse has been one of my go-to stores for over 20 years, across multiple locations. Great selection, competitive pricing, and amazing service. Ed cares about his customers and the community – he wants to get you the best deal on what you’re looking for, even if sometimes it means recommending another store/seller if he can’t get you what you need. He’s knowledgeable and honest, and I always feel like I can rely on him for the straight story. I was recently looking for a hollowbody electric and Ed was excellent in helping me find the right guitar and giving me a great price on it. I highly recommend Musician’s Warehouse, whether you live in/near Athens or if you visit their Reverb store.
Pretty good shop if you are in Athens. Much better selection of gear than their competitors in the area.
Nice selection of stringed and percussion instruments. Pretty decent prices, too.
Could be a little more organized. Drum area needs more open space. And more displayed of items. Seems pretty congested.
Poor selection. If you like grandpa guitars this is the place. Wouldnt recomend to any modern guitar players.
Really wanted to like this company. I was cheated and conned, and after a week with zero communication I contacted them. They fumbled around for another day or two then stated they couldn’t find the item. I was left empty handed and confused. No attempt at finding the item or ordering another. Nothing. Zip. C’mon guys!
Dude I’m not sure what happened. The first floor is desolate (empty for everybody that’s currently reading this while dunk). I understand social distancing, but I’m I am attending Warehouse, I do not care about the current situation, I’m here to rave. Open the first floor for a mosh pit.
7. Atlanta Discount Music
Address: 3514 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd, Chamblee, GA 30341 , Laza , Georgia , United States
Great gear and people. The used guitars and basses are worth a look.
Fun selection of guitars. Not going to find these guitars at GC. Great staff.
They are always so helpful when I come in. If you need pedals, this is absolutely the place to go.
Always has good stuff.
Really good instruments and place to replace strings for guitars
A true hometown music store. Great place for new or used guitars plus repairs
Don’t drop your amp here for repair. Paid close to $200 and when I got home, the amp still didn’t work. Total rip-off
They weren’t very friendly or helpful with what I was looking for. Their prices are actually higher than most other places I’ve been in. My advice would be to shop for your musical items somewhere else.
It’s a neat store. It’s a small local place with a somewhat limited selection. I didn’t think the prices were all that great based on their new guitars and the staff didn’t find me interesting enough to ask me if I needed anything even though this one guy saw me coming in. Oh, well.
8. Lancaster Music Co
Address: 195 Pearl Nix Pkwy # 7, Gainesville, GA 30501 , Laza , Georgia , United States
good knowledgeable staff always willing to help. very good prices , i highly recommend this place for your music needs
Wonderful staff.
They take time with you to make sure you get your sheet music In the right key.
I’ll swing in here every now and again just to have a peak. Maybe pick up some picks, a strap, etc. The staff are always real friendly, I’ve got no complaints there. The place is nice and clean and always well stocked. I know their bread and butter are off of pianos and such, but I’d love to see a bigger selection of guitars and basses in here. Would bring in some business, I’m sure. Especially considering there is only one other music store in town that survived the recession. As for now, that other music store and Guitar Center are my first two stops before this one. And that’s nothing against this place at all. If you’re looking for the likes of a piano, woodwind, brass, etc – make a trip to see these guys.
Pianos, guitars, study books, score books, accessories. Friendly staff.
Un servicio a cliente muy amable
Extremely narrow minded selection of instruments. If you play anything besides piano or high school band instruments you will be looked at with disdain. If you do play those instruments, I hope you like Yamaha because that’s your only choice.
Nice store but they DON’T take American Express
I felt a racial divide. I was cordial and respectful when I entered the place. I played for them, the piano and sang to them and even bought something from them. They called the police on me and I was not arrested. I did not disrespect anyone nor did I hard an instrument. I sat in the police car in cuffs and then was released without a problem. I plan to take them to court.
9. Guitar Center
Address: 1455 Pleasant Hill Rd, Lawrenceville, GA 30044 , Laza , Georgia , United States
Excelente lugar para comprar instrumentos de musica y repuestos lo recomiendo
They have a lot of variety, and the staff helped us pick out what we wanted. They have good offer on guitar lessons as well
very welcoming. Nice place to just chill and hangout. 5/5
Helpful and knowledgeable staff
Muy buenas condiciones muy buen ambiente
Excelente lugar para encontrar de todo en cuanto a lo musical
Went there to try some headphones, but the whole demo station was out of order. When asked about it he guy just said ah yes they’re not working…
They are knowingly trying to sell me crap. I would drive 20 extra miles to go to a different guitar center.
At first I had a good experience with this store when I visited on Sunday. I do not remember any names but one guy (skinny, white guy with small beard) helped me with my first purchase with a guitar. We were very happy with that experience and spent a good amount of time there making sure I bought the right guitar. Then we returned to this store today and it was a completely different staff and attitude. I was 1 of a 3 person party in which 2 of the 3 were looking to buy a guitar tonight since I had already bought one two nights ago. We looked online at the guitars we wanted and immediately went to the Acoustic Corral to find them but could not find either. One guy helped find one guitar and went to the back to find it carrying back the box with it (I suppose this was Dwayne because that’s what the receipt said – tall, white guy with glasses). He then passed it to David (which I assume in which is what his name tag said – hefty, bald black guy) which was a little short with us but it could be his personality. He let us open the box and go to the Corral to play it before buying. Upon inspection, we noticed a dent and went to bring it up to him. He brushes it off and says “yeah, I noticed that when I opened the box.” I could only assume he hoped we bought it without noticing it and never offered to get a new one until we brought up we would not accept only a 5% discount for this new out-of-box dent and wanted a new one. He sent Dwayne to get it and Dwayne proceeded with the purchase and helped us with a trade-in. While waiting for the other person in my party to receive the guitar from the back, he looks around near the Vault to which one employee states “Apparently people can’t read” to which he said he was not going to open the door as he read it was for Employees Only, but the guy said “yeah, we’re just trying to keep ‘normal people’ out.” If normal people mean “non-guitar players” or “new guitar players”, there goes 2/3 of the people in my party. My friend then decided he would buy the guitar he wanted at a different store. The only reason we bought the one guitar was because we came specifically to that store to get that specific guitar that was in stock. The staff made us feel like it was criminal to ask a question and I felt like I didn’t need to bother them for much even though we had some problems with finding merchandise and the dent with one.
10. Music & Arts
Address: 1255 Johnson Ferry Rd Suite 9, Marietta, GA 30068 , Laza , Georgia , United States
Phenomenal job re-stringing my guitars and even touched them up and made sure everything was good with them. Tim was amazing!
The staff are great. Knowledgeable and helpful. Be sure to go before school year starts, to get ahead of the crowd. If your school age child is on the fence, staff was very helpful to try out instruments.
Adam was incredibly helpful in explaining how to string my guitar. The staff is super friendly and wants to help those who love music.
They have very limited selection however they can usually order in something if you need it.
Great values on musical instruments and instruction for all levels.
The service here was great. However this is a small store so selection was limited. They offer lessons on site.
This is more a place to rent an instrument or buy a guitar than to get high end audio equipment.
Tried to return son’s instrument finally when they opened after Corona shutdown. They still charged me for the extra month rent that we could not return the instrument. Called corporate office absolutely no consideration or understanding. They must have corporate directions to deny returns during this crisis. No understanding or compassion in this corporation. They are basically robots.
Really unprofessional Store Management. After being a student there for more than a year, one week they informed us that the current teacher is leaving and they had no idea what the plans for going forward were despite us saying that we were keen to continue. The following week we were told by the store manager that there is a new teacher but we no longer have the same time slot that we had for the last 1 year with the new teacher as someone else had registered for that slot. The store manager was so arrogant, there was no apology or an explanation why our daughter was not transferred to the new teacher with the same time slot in spite of us indicating that we wanted to continue. Shocked to see the level of arrogance and how such an unprofessional person even became a store manager. We are finding another music school.
This location is understaffed, inefficient and not well-trained. They cancelled our instrument order and did not create a new order. My daughter now is without an instrument for her class. I have called twice, and no staff can provide information on getting one. So disappointed and frustrated. Avoid this location.
