my 8 year old is into all of what is at the store….went back about 3x we enjoyed it!!! #shopsmall
Grate place to learn and buy rocks and gold paying suplys in leadville
I had a great experience. The owner was very nice
So many fossils, rocks, minerals in the rough and also some made into jewelry. Gave it 4/5 because prices on most things were on the high side. On the other hand Unique one of a kind pieces!
Not just a rock shop! They have supplies too! Being retired and traveling full time in the RV presents its challenges for ordering specific rock hounding and prospecting gear. This place just about all the basic to get you prospecting and hounding. Estwing tools, pans, classifiers, sluices, sniffers, tumblers, abrasives, just about everything you need!
It’s been more than 10 years since our last trip to the area, so glad to find this store is still in business.
Seems to have much less inventory than we remembered, with numerous shelves more than half empty. Maybe that’s an intentional decision like many stores have faced? Or maybe it’s just that we were there after peak summer season?
Staff was friendly; even provided a small display stand at no extra charge for a crystal my husband purchased.
Cool store to look at some stones and rocks. The lady working wasn’t friendly at all, didn’t welcome us as we walked in and threw a mask on very quickly(and gloves as I checked out) like we were walking viruses. like I get you’re scared of covid but you can still be nice and friendly in my opinion. I usually don’t support places that are like that, as in unkind, but the crystal I wanted was cheaper than back home! 🙂
Be really careful with this place! I asked about some stones surrounding an amber ring setting and the worker said “Oh probably some cheap fake stones”. That should have tipped me off but I ended up buying a “cherry amber ring” and after close inspection it was an obvious acrylic fake! Took it back and the woman was super defensive about it with the return. Bad experience overall as we have bought a lot of items from them over the years. Dont enjoy being hustled or played for a fool.
Very disappointed
3. Tabor Opera House
Address: 308 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
Staff gave a good tour. Very knowledgeable on the history of the opera house. Restoration in progress.
Good history tour. Interesting old building.
Steeped in history. Much more interesting on the inside than the view from the outside would have you believe. A great tour although too rushed as so much to take in. A beautiful theatre – would love to see a show there.
Its a beautiful piece of history
Great tour and a lot of history. The only negative is the multitude of steps. Hope they get funding to restore the Opera House to it’s glory.
There is something appealing about sitting in a historic theater to watch a modern comedian that just tickles me. However be aware the seats are not padded and the rows can be rather close together.
4. Firehouse General Store
Address: 704 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
We stop for a magnet the lady was super nice and welcoming
Wonderful store, lots of great items to choose from and the saleswoman is super nice. This store has all you need, Everytime you turn around you see something you just have to have!!
Very friendly and helpful staff with a lot of cool items to buy
5. Redbox
Address: 300 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
This gem of a liquor store in Leadville has a beer selection that compares to Denver finest spots. The staff is super friendly and helpful not to mention the shop dog has a fine head to pet! I would never go anywhere else in town.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. . Always have smiles in their faces
Sold selection of craft beer and local liquor from CO
Decent selection of alcohol especially for a small town.
Convent place being right off the street and right in the middle of this small town. I only came in here for a quick stop since Safeway do my sell hard liquor. I got a 750 ml bottle of Jager after tax came out to be $22.00. Not to bad compared to other liquor stores in town itch were like $25-28 a bottle of jager.
Very condescending behavior for a liquor store…not sure why that was nessecary.
It’s a liquor store
The gal behind the counter had an issue with my children being in the liquor store with me. As a single mom with a camper, I’m not going to leave them in camp or in the car. I’ll find another liquor store the next time I’m camping in Leadville.
7. City on a Hill Coffee & Espresso
Address: 508 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
Went here twice and had a lovely time each round. Would recommend the coffee and the food.
Cappuccino and a big piece of eclaire made like a cake in a quaint and comfortable atmosphere
One of the best places to visit in Leadville!
Coffee was great! Not a huge fan of the massive amounts of foam on the lattes, though, and the space was uncomfortably hot.
Nice coffee shop with plenty of options, good atmosphere and friendly staff.
Great atmosphere! Our daughter and granddaughter loves the coffee there. Too strong for me.
I really badly wanted to like this place but I didn’t at ALL.
The only thing that was decent was the coffee but even that was milky (if u like milky drinks you’ll like it)
I got a burrito and it was so like tough and weird. Also the older lady working at the front was so RUDE and pushy. Like I’m not being dramatic
I asked for a burrito and she cut me off and said “RED OR GREEN SALSA??” Ok????
And my friend asked for no potatoes on her burrito and got yelled at
“No. Cant do that.” Because they are pre made but she could’ve just said that and not yelled
Cute vibes, great decoration, but the coffee was garbage. The cold brew is just iced coffee, the syrups don’t get stirred in, and the Florentino was just chocolate milk in coffee.
I’ve been here twice and both times the barista was rude for no reason at all and acted like I was annoying for ordering(2 different baristas). The lattes were mediocre and so was the quiche. The first time I was there I waited for about 35 minutes in line to order. The two stars are for the vegan pastries and the interior is nice.
8. Leadville Outdoors and Mountain Market
Address: 225 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
Best option in town if you’re looking to rent basic things like snow shoes and cross country skis!
Knowledgeable staff for all things Leadville recreation.
Good selection and high quality gear. Not recommended to rent from for your typical day at the downhill ski resorts though!
Lovely expertise to help rent xcountry skis.
Last summer almost exactly a year ago I needed a camping chair to take to the Rainbow Gathering. We had been looking all the way from Austin Texas through New Mexico and finally found it! Just perfect!! Greatest place to shop.
This places is absolutely NOT wheelchair accessable. Also the selection is extremely limited which is understandable because it’s so small. The prices are insane on items and it’s clearly not a place for your average blue collar/ball’n on a budget types. It’s a place you’d find some rich Liberal Denverites who have some how taken a wrong turn into Leadville and keep coming back. I was going to give 3 stars but the employees make up for.it for always being very nice and helpful.
The best range you will find in town. All the outdoor essentials.
Good selection, friendly staff… prices are at full retail.
Went in looking for a men’s puffy jacket. This was a last minute decision since I didn’t have a good, lightweight, compressible jacket for Mt. Elbert hike. The staff there don’t seem very knowledgeable about the merchandise they’re selling. The staff were happy to sell me a women’s jacket saying it was a men’s. It was almost as if they operate this way on purpose. We did get to Leadville right before store was closing. I was told it was a men’s jacket. It wasn’t.
Not much inventory, very high prices. Although staff is nice.
Rustoleum spray paint . Thanks ACE! For bringing my art to others!
Great selection of goods and amazing staff that genuinely want to help you find what you are looking for. A breath of fresh air compared to other box stores in Colorado. Thank you Big Horn True Value for helping us get through our remodel needs this winter.
Could be opened later, prices are a little high, and selection is a bit limited, but people are nice and good for a small town store.
Well stocked with just about everything you might need.
Love this place I can always count on friendly service and great bargains
Disappointed, $1100 snowblower making internal engine noise when started. Took unit back after 1 hour and they looked at unit, agreed it was making noise internally and told me there was nothing they could do. Out $1100 and don’t have a snowblower that works.
Horrible customer service
11. Matchless Treasures Thrift Shop
Address: 623 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
My go to place for odds and ends! I love this place!
I had a excellent shopping experience! I will shop here every chance I get! It was also very pleasant experience!
Check out the place across the street if you’re looking for snow gear
There were 2 sewing machines built into desks! I would have been tempted to buy 1 but there wasn’t room in my vehicle.
The upstairs was seasonal merchandise when I visited.
I purchased a high altitude cookbook & a book on local cross country ski trails. I paid with cash to avoid the surcharge that is placed on card transactions under $20.
What a wonderful little independently owned thrift store. We had fun looking through here. Because of its size the selection was sometimes thin. The store is a bit cluttered with some things we felt were beyond salvage/sale but not many. That is why we have to give it four stars. Despite the thinness in selection we did find several much needed items. We must admit this store is very popular with the local residents.
Hello I just drop on outside the door in thrift store my stuff for donation about 3 plastic bag white thank you have a great day
Super crowded and cluttered. If they priced their stuff lower and more reasonably, they would sell more, make more of a profit, and be able to keep up with the donation demands. Nice staff, though.
12. Fire On the Mountain
Address: 715 Harrison Ave #3561, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
Elise was great! We had a couple hours to spend in Leadville with our daughters and popped into this adorable shop. Our daughters painted a couple ceramic pieces and Elise offered to ship them to FL for us. We are expecting them soon. Our girls loved the experience and I shopped in the store for some cute Christmas ornaments and quartz and chakra bracelets as gifts. Really loved the place. I will update the review with pics from the ceramics when they arrive!
My girls LOVE this place!! We go every chance we get.
Liked the quietness no rush atmosphere
It was fun
If you’re looking for yarn, the selection is very limited. No patterns for most of what they had on hand.
13. Leadville Exchange
Address: 115 E 5th St, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
We stumbled on to this hidden gem, while on a day trip to lovely Leadville. My teenage daughter loved their great collection. And we enjoyed a great conversation with Nancy- highly recommend if you are in the vicinity
14. McFee Silversmiths
Address: 333 Elm St, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
Wonderful place to relax, unwind, and enjoy fun and creative drinks. Can’t leave out the tasty finger foods too!
Good coffee
Amazing drinks menu and off-menu excellence. My wife and I had an amazing birthday night with John. Due to work, I have had the fortune to have drinks from Vegas, NYC, Boston, Dallas, London and San Fran and these drinks are among the best I have had. A true craft shop. Ask John for something from his tiki list and enjoy. A great time and a great atmosphere. Heard.
Delicious drinks for a fair price. The atmosphere was very cozy and relaxing. I ordered some wontons and they were awesome! But I wish the food menu was more transparent by listing how many would be served. I spent $10 for 4 wontons ($2.5/wanton)
Great cocktails but the service needs better training. Our waitress came over once to ask us if we wanted drinks and never asked again. We ordered a burger which tasted great but took an hour to make and didn’t even come with a side. We also had to get up to get the check because our server never came back to check on us. Could be 5 stars with improved service.
Place is pretty cool but service could of been better we were at the bar and never got asked if we wanted a second drink. We would of got another one but just decided to leave.
Eh, nothing too special. Maybe better for tourists. The inside is super cute but for covid safety, seating is very close together. Should have sat outside. Pretty clean at least. Mocktail was ok, just came from a can. The menu made it seem like it was supposed to be mixed with something else. I had chips that I thought were homemade, but it seems like they just dump a half bag a store bought chips on a plate and charge $6 for it. Same with the avocado and crackers. The sandwiches/rice bowls might be worth it but I’m afraid to try.
Unfriendly and bland. Good for Vail tourists that got lost.
16. The Western Hardware
Address: 431 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
There is a little bit of everything in this antique mall.
A little over priced (it’s the mountains) but there are some seriously good finds in this shop.
love this place..have bought some much cherished items here.
update… we recently wanted to purchase a 700.00 lamp that had been reduced to 500.00 but the clerk couldn’t have cared less…would not call to get more info about it and was frowning and unfriendly.
the other girl…her assistant was nice though…thank you for SOME nice people. I forgive you though… other nice people in Leadville make up for the snippy ones.
Cool place for antiques and collectibles in a historic building.
A nice place to browse.
Still chugging along in the time of Covid, this antique store sported healthy restrictions and a great selection of items. If I had disposable income, I’d have been walking away with two original 1945 WWII propaganda posters they’re selling upstairs. I didn’t give myself enough time to peruse, but it’s worth a stop in Leadville if you’re into classic collecting.
My husband and I went into the store and found quite a few things we wanted to purchase then we saw on display a derogatory vulgar bumper sticker regarding Texans ( where we are from), when brought up to the staff they laughed and said so what. I told them I was offended, handed them our potential purchases and walked out and shared our story with our fellow Texan friends- no one in our group purchased from that store and won’t in the future as well
This place was good. However the young girl with brown hair was extremely rude. As soon as we walked in she didn’t even greet us. She just informed us when they would be closing. She seemed annoyed that we were even there. We had our children with us, we travel a lot and always visit local antique stores. Our children are really well behaved and know not to touch anything unless given permission. My husband was showing our son a tiny baseball bat and said you can’t swing it! Next thing we know the young girl working the store yells at us “don’t let your children touch anything”! My husband told her “it’s fine I told him not to swing it if anything gets broken I will pay for it!” she continued arguing with him so we decided to leave immediately. It was embarrassing and sad being treated this way, because we pride ourselves on our children being well behaved! So don’t go in here with children even if they are well behaved. Also this is my first review ever, that is how bad our experience was!
They Hate dogs at Wesren Hardware Antiques. Our little dog has always been welcomed into hundreds of antique stores from coast to coast. They threw us out of their store as soon as we walked in. They expected us to leave him in the hot car in August. We will Never come back!
17. Pastime Saloon
Address: 120 W 2nd St, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
I can’t say enough good about the ol’ Pastime. I’ve been stopping there for their awesome burger for as long as I can remember, and it’s as good (or better) today than ever. This time Nate hooked me up with a KILLER green chile version of the burger, and Brent behind the bar is a great dude. Don’t skip the Pastime when rolling through town.
This bar is amazing and the bartender Brent is taking very good care of us this was the only place we could get food everywhere else we tried to go to sucked and they wore there mask
Pastime envelopes the cultural identity of Leadville. Like the Ouroboros, death and rebirth perform the sacred rituals of Leadville life in this tavern of great historical significance. And…they have a ping pong table!!
Great little bar with a decent food selection!
Great. Reasonable prices, good american fare.
A cool watering hole on the once infamous State Street in Leadville.
Online menu said their most expensive cheese burger is $13, get there in person no menu, just drawings on a board. If you want to spend 17.50 for a normal plain jane cheese burger and fries that is less quality and portions than burger king than go here. Most of the selection is out of stock. If Covid-19 really exists, it would be located in the mens restroom. The womens restroom would scare the hell out of Penicillin. Seems like the bartender dertimines thw price of what he feels like charging. 4 entrees and fountain drinks cost me $118. Like I said if I knew I would have walked right out. I would highly recommend bologne sandwiches that got crapped out by your dog before I would this place.
Worst service ever. Lipstick on my water glass. Asked for a new one and waitress was so rude. Horrible experience. I would never recommend or go back. The old lady that was our waitress never once came back to our table.
The DJs they hire to play here are awful, I only try to go when no DJs are playing or I go when there is actual live music. The DJs do a worse job than a 3 year old playing music
18. Family Dollar
Address: 1100 Poplar St, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
Its got better prices than Safeway and tends to be better stocked. Went in for kids toys and dog treats, kids toys are beyond over priced for the less than Chinese quality plastic they are, 1 baby doll in the whole building and it was $30! Found dog treats under $5 though..
The store is a mess! The stuff is nice!
Good quick shop
Need new staff the one they have right now sucks very disrespectful especially a blonde skiny b***** that likes to yell at kids may 12 2018
The manger(rose Mary) is nice (was acting racing at first)but I spead Alot of money in there so she don’t bother me anymore..this is the worst family Dollars I have been in thou..need to close my opinion
New manager very rude. Better service at safeway, and that says a lot…
19. The Legendary Silver Dollar Saloon
Address: 315 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
Atmosphere in the oldest bar… Don’t expect modern amenities here!
A genuinely old, brick building made with massive timbers and decorated like your dream version of an old west brothel. The servers were excellent, and, while my reuben sandwich was not five-star, the menu overall gets five from me for being interesting. For example, in includes a lamb shank as well as a lamb French dip. If I had not grilled leg of lamb at home yesterday, I’d have ordered the French dip. They also have interesting sides and appetizers. This place is COOL.
So this might be my favorite bar ever, and I’ve been to more bars than a squirrel has nuts.
It’s a billion years old. It hasn’t changed ONE thing since it opened. It’s still got a noose hanging from the rafters for God sake. They have photographic proof of a ghost sitting in the stool I was sitting in. Doc Holiday shot his last man in front of it for anyone who has ever watched Tombstone (if you haven’t then c’mon), and the drinks were icey cold and cheap as hell.
This bar has more character than anywhere I’ve ever been and it in the frigin Colorado Rockies. Can’t ask for much more honestly. Please. For me. Check this place out. Even if you have to drive a loooong way.
Great spot to eat had the Reuben with fries and the chorizo as an appetizer
Food was ok, but there’s better choices nearby
Great place and lots of history!
Service slow and tables were not wiped properly.
We went here on a recommendation from a friend’s mother. When we stepped into the doors I was surprised at all the “character” of the place. That is to say, the place was filled with old photos, antiques and memorabilia from the 19th century. At first it was a unique and fun and then it became a pain in the ass.
Their menu was severely limited, just burgers and sandwiches. Our gluten free friend couldn’t eat there and the staff were unwilling to let him order of menu. He was willing to pay a reasonable price for a salad or just hamburger patties, but they wanted him to buy two separate hamburgers and take the bread off himself. When he asked if he could bring food from another place in, they said no.
I ordered at the same time as some other friends and while their food came (albeit after far too long) mine never arrived. I ordered a Pepsi (which was on the menu),was served a can of Coca-Cola (for $2) and sat down to wait. And wait. And wait. After my friends’ food was delivered and eaten mine still had not arrived. Finally I went up to the bar and told the bartender I’d pay for the soda but she could cancel the sandwich order. I gave her $2 and walked out, grabbing a burrito next door.
When I finally returned to my friends I was told my sandwich arrived while I was out. Another friend’s sandwich arrived at the same time, nearly an hour after we ordered.
The final straw was when they tried to charge me for the sandwich and my gluten free friend for drinks he’d already paid for before leaving to find something gluten-free friendly.
We’ll not be going there ever again or recommending the place to anyone but our enemies.
Google hours are wrong. Here right now. Monday at 4 PM and the door is blocked off for cleaning.
20. Community Threads
Address: 609 Harrison Ave, Leadville, CO 80461 , Leadville , Colorado , United States
I went in for skis for my 4 year old. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any. The people working there were very nice and they did have a lot of cool stuff! I’d go back and shop again.
This store was bright, welcoming, organized & had quality finds. I would consider it an upscale thrift store if you’re looking for name brand items in pretty good shape.
Great shop! Good finds!
Over priced gear that is mostly older & outdated. We were not greeted or talked too by this guy texting behind the counter… seems like a cool shop but missing the target in many ways…
Nice shop with a lot of different things to buy. Prices were a little high but not unreasonable
Not sure his “thrift type” supply prices are really thrifty. Typically when people are selling used items the prices are a lot less due to the cost of the used items, which are sometimes free or donated to the shop. The shop still gets a 3 star from me though because they did have a wide range of used items sprinkled with a few new items of Colorado or Leadville nature.
