Our daughter has developed so many skills here from singing to acting to playing the piano. The staff treat you like family, everyone should send their kids here.
McLaughlin theatre company is a great educational theatre company with experienced staff and a very welcoming environment! The shows are always great!
Unlike other, larger childrens’ theaters in the area, McGlaughlins cares about your child’s time. They customize the rehearsal schedule so that your child shows up when it is time to rehearse the scenes in which your child is featured. In other words, kids are not sitting around in a room unsupervised for hours waiting for their five minutes of stage time. Also, because they are a smaller theater, they work really hard to make sure your child has opportunities to play larger roles, even if they have to double cast in order to accomplish that. It’s a lot more work for the directors, but the result is a rich and meaningful experience for the students.
Very amateurish compared to some of the other local theater companies. Whan attending a show, I also didn’t appreciate the fact I was asked directly to make a donation to buying extra equipment when they already charge significantly more for kids to be in their shows than other local companies do. The whole thing was second rate, except for some performers.
2. The Music Store
Address: 4815 Granite Dr, Rocklin, CA 95677 , Loomis , California , United States
My kids took piano lessons for a few years here. On a whim I signed up for voice lessons. At age 48. No music experience since elementary school violin. No talent to speak of. IT HAS BEEN SO MUCH FUN! Patrick is such a kind and inspiring teacher. Each week brings a new discovery. I feel like a kid again. Take a chance and start a new adventure. I am excited to start my next lesson tomorrow.
Dalton was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and guided us well about our child’s trumpet. In general, we love the reasonable instrument rental cost and quality of the instruments.
Will recommend the store to others.
Only been a couple of times but knowledgeable, honest and quick to tune into your needs. IMHO Instruments are far better being purchased here than trying to save a couple of dollars online.
Friendly staff and very helpful.
I rented a used violin for my son from the shop. They said the price was $199. The rental was $35 per month. after two months if you want to own the violin then they said they would deduct the rental amount from the original price. But when we want to buy the used violin they said the price is $299 which is hell more than a new violin. So would recommend not to rent or buy anything from this store.
Fantastic store with great service, owner is friendly, helpful, and funny. If you are shopping for a piano, look no further!
Beautiful store! Great people!! Fantastic service!!!
Ronna Moon, piano teacher
Ben (the owner) at the Piano Store is first rate! We were looking for a digital piano for our daughter who takes lessons. Ben took the time to explain the different options and features. He wasn’t pushy. He really knows pianos! We took a month to consider our options and in the end we returned to the Piano Store. Our whole family is blessed and excited about our new piano. It was a pleasure doing business with him and his family. Thank you!
I’ve been looking for pianos for awhile and was satisfied with the selection here, but I felt like the person working there was a little pushy and rude which led to me wanting to leave. I’m not sure if I’d be comfortable coming here again.
Reply: My point is that my experience here was very uncomfortable. It was difficult to look for pianos in peace, yet I’d understand why you’d feel the need to be persistent with asking questions in an attempt to help out. My dad isn’t from the US and doesn’t exactly communicate well, so I became anxious when you told him, “People usually don’t just walk in” as he was taking a look around; this made me feel as if we were unwelcome. I tried to elaborate his vague response by telling you that we have indeed been looking for a piano for awhile; this was in no way defensive although I didn’t get the chance to fully explain myself since you quickly cut me off by saying, “Yeah, I know”. I willfully admit that what you said to my dad slightly irritated me, which is why I blatantly answered the question you asked me and continued to browse around the shop (considering the reason we visited was to look around, obviously). I just recently turned 18 (which you know since I answered when you asked) and would consider myself a sociable person, so the reason of me seeming “rude and standoff to the max” is only the outcome of feeling like our visit was bothersome for you. I was antsy the entire time and it was disappointing since I’ve been meaning to visit for awhile. And I understand that maybe you weren’t having the best day, but my review is an honest recap of my PERSONAL experience, and isn’t being said to bash your business. No one is “trampling” you Ben – I’d greatly appreciate it if you considered what I’m stating rather than argue.
No, he doesn’t buy pianos.
Very rude walked into the store ready to spend upwards of $20000 on a piano the employees were very rude and didnt feel like answering questions and they would watch every move u made made me and my cousin very uncomfortable how am I supposed to spend lots of money on a piano when i can’t test it due to them being on the phone all the time them not having a back office where they can take phone calls is very unprofessional i was in there for about 10 minutes until i couldn’t take the constant questions them watching everywhere i go i would not recommend this place for anyone who wants piece and quiet to shop for a piano
7. The Strum Shop
Address: 209 Vernon St, Roseville, CA 95678 , Loomis , California , United States
The Strum Shop is my favorite shop. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of the owner Stu.
His family is carrying on. His daughter helped me pick out a wonderful Koa wood tenor uke, which is the perfect uke for my hand – I had a broken index finger and need the narrow neck for bar cords, and it has a very nice action. Everybody loves its delicious sound and it is easy to play.
Randy and Dan are very helpful. I have bought 20 ukes here, for family members, and sold on consignment within a week, 4 of my ukes, guitars.
I enjoy the free strum workshops.
The new Vernon street location is so much larger and I love the old Towne Roseville location by Roseville Theater, than the small shop. I recommend the Strum Shop to anyone interested in buying a uke. Great selection, always changing, and I always find one to please the heart of the person whom I take in who wants to learn to play the uke.
I am moving and wanted to sell my old banjo. I was hoping I could trade for a nice ukelele. I swing by The Strum Shop and no one was available to look at my banjo. I was encouraged to return after 3pm and thanked for coming by. I ran some more errands and stopped at Guitar Center. The gal that helped me was nice but I had to wait for close to half an hour for an email response on what they would offer me for my banjo. I was stuck wandering around…no one even offered me a chair. I decided not to sell it and drove back over to the Strum Shop. Boy am I glad I did! I was helped quickly and was offered a fair amount for my Banjo. I decided to trade for a concert sized ukelele and he helped me find exactly what I wanted including a case. Thank you for ‘hearing’ what I wanted and helping me to find it. It is obvious your store is run by professionals that care about their customers
Huge selection of ukuleles. I really love taking my uke lessons here with Randy Clarke. He is super knowledgable and challenges me to learn more and more. I have purchased three ukuleles here so far and every time I walk by the hundred or so ukes hanging on the wall, I always find another that I want to buy. They also have a great selection of guitars and all kinds of books and music accessories. Great thing is that even if they don’t have something, they are willing to order it special. Awesome place to shop for anything music related.
Had all manner of steering instruments, plus. Also they give music lessons for drums, violin, ukulele, plus more.
Cool
It have discount mercendise too .
I originally came in to get a new nut cut for my Gibson SG. The repair took longer and cost more than originally advertised, and the repair man left several issues that I had to fix myself (buzzing on A and low E, new tuning problems due to roughness of nut slots, high action, used strings other than the ones I’d left for him and specifically asked for him to use). Fortunately, however, when I brought this up with the shop, out of the $50 that I was charged, I was refunded $40 labor cost. (Still on the hook for $10 though).
EDIT: The manager for the Strum Shop started hassling me over text message after I posted this review. LOL.
I brought a guitar to adjust the action. Dan did not place the parts I asked for saying he did not have it on stock. Inaccurate repair job with replacing the guitar nut. Honestly I could adjust my guitar better than this “professional repair master” “Doctor” Dan. Waisted $80. Very unsatisfied. I would not recommend any repairs in this shop/store.
They lost my instrument and won’t return my calls. I brought an instrument in for repairs, they gave to their vendor, I talked with the vendor and he said it would be done in two weeks. After a month with no word I started calling, and they have ignored all messages I’ve left.
8. Encore Music Center
Address: 725 High St, Auburn, CA 95603 , Loomis , California , United States
great customer service and make purchasing items easy
Super helpful and good people! A million times better than the guitar center box stores. Highly recommend!
Laid back staff, old school rock n roll music store.
Very helpful. Good store. Still, nobody’s perfect.
Lots of instruments
I went here twice. I did not have a great experience the first time, being made to feel as though I wasn’t good enough to shop here, but decided to give it a second chance instead of supporting Amazon. A price I was quoted on my first visit mysteriously increased by over $10 on my second visit and with no price tags on items, the two men working there verbally discussed the price which continued to increase in front of me. Because I had left myself in a bind without enough time to order from Amazon, I paid their increased price but I will never support this store again.
Needed the nut replaced on my bass and they suggested glueing the nut and that turned out better but I’m now having the nut replaced as I wanted in the beginning due to it still having a crack in it and now there is glue everywhere. Also had him do a light setup and when I got the bass back the truss rod what so tight that I almost could not adjust it and all the strings rattled. They may have costed me a neck.
9. Guitar Center
Address: 5781 Five Star Blvd, Roseville, CA 95678 , Loomis , California , United States
Great selection of musical equipment, smaller than the Sacramento store, but has great customer service and lessons
Went in today to pick up an order I purchased online. The employee who helped me was super friendly. I drove a long way to get there so I didn’t catch his name, but he had long hair and maybe a light beard. Overall an awesome experience.
I like it
good prices and decent service
Went at 11:45 line took around 30-40 minutes, Guitar selection was limited but the service was good.
Looking for Christmas deals, didn’t find any. Instead, we found nearly everything else. Only guitars and percussion though.
Crappy service… no service at all ignored at let down ….. waited to buy a cable and was just ignored…dude dissapeared with someone…rather buy online now. I regret driving here
Went to pay like 16 bucks worth of stuff, asked me for my last 4 on my debt card and it declined twice. I did have another card. But then i went to another store 5 min later and my card worked. Guy must of not known what he was doing
Ordered for curb pickup, called about a dozen times and they never answered. What a waste of time I’m super disappointed.
10. Music Lab Rocklin
Address: 2164 Sunset Blvd Suite 201, Rocklin, CA 95765 , Loomis , California , United States
Great selection of musical instruments and nice staff. Support this wonderful small business.
If you have ever met the owner you would know that they are the most nicest people you will ever meet! This business if managed by humble and dedicated people! I love all their employees! Amazing service and environment!
I went to check out this place. It’s a little out of my way but worth the trip. The staff was very professional, polite, and no sales pressure. It was an absolute pleasure, what a store. I highly recommend shopping here.
Very nice ambitious at Cafe and very knowledgeable & helping staff
I haven’t been to this shop in years. Came in recently to look for a specific book. The staff was friendly. The layout of the place is a bit awkward. There is a back section with sheet music but it’s not very apparent at first. Ask anyone at the desk if you need to find it. The sheet music selection is very small.
They had a good collection of guitars, bases, and other stringed instruments. I didn’t see much in the way of brass or woodwinds. Its in a small shopping complex and parking was okay.
I enjoyed the experience of coffee, paired sometimes with comedy, awesome musicians to so so ones on open mike days. Fun place with friendly staff.
Wish the coffee was better than just good, or maybe I’m just spoilt. Haha.
It is unfortunate that I was not able to receive the great customer service others described on this store. I went in to ask questions and buy a guitar for my son. I waited 15 minutes to be helped. There were three people working as far as I could tell, and no one came to help or even said they would be right with me. After that length of time I felt uncomfortable and left. I’m not one to stand right at the counter and demand attention. I walked around and looked at each guitar displayed, but didn’t really know what to look for. It is a small store so I should have been noticed. Yes, they were busy and helping others but there were only three other customers in the shop. I will be buying my guitar somewhere else.
The staff is very nice but the owner has very poor customer service skills. He does not know how to listen to customer needs nor he gives a choice. Even if you rent violin from him you do not have a choice. It will be whatever he gives you. He is very rude. I was trying to pick a violin for my child and he was very suspicious why we were looking for details on the violin. He sells violins with cracks for high prices. DO NOT SUGGEST BUYING OR RENTING VIOLIN from this place. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM OWNER.
Bad service. They tried to sell me a $500 plus guitar when I insisted upon renting instead because I was taking classes at the community college. Will not be returning.
13. The Music Yard
Address: 6668 Lonetree Blvd #200, Rocklin, CA 95765 , Loomis , California , United States
As a professional musician, my instruments have to be in better-than-new shape, ready for the wide variety of performance situations I typically play in. Kris not only is my one technician, but also a trusted friend. The whole staff are like family to me!
Went there to continue with my guitar lessons. I had to quit my lessons about 3 years ago and decided to start up again.
September now and still jammin with lessons
Todd is great!
Did a great job repairing a trumpet fir mu son! Really nice people.!
The store was open but I even didn’t get to get in the store, I saw the atendent from outside and he just made a hands sign that I should wait.
15. Skip’s Music – Sacramento
Address: 4614 Madison Ave, Sacramento, CA 95841 , Loomis , California , United States
I BOUGHT A 2X12 PEAVEY B/W CABINET WITH A MACE HEAD IN 76-77. IN 82 I WAS TIRED OF MY 72 STRAT AND WENT TO SKIPS AS EVERYONE DID FOR YEARS & SIGHTED THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GUITAR A KRAMER FLOYD ROSE SIGNATURE SERIES ,I THINK SHE HAS SHAELLER PICKUPS (I DON’T THINK I SPELLED SHEK RIGHT) ANYWAY WHEN I PLAY IT ON STAGE I FEEL LIKE GOD HERSELF IS COMING OUT OF ME .
This music store has always done me right. From guitar string replacement to buying a guitar, their personnel always guide me to the right product. They are moving to a different location so the mom and pop’s fee will be surely missed.
Skip’s is a cool place to chill at. The service is good staff is grate.
This music store is a chill place. It has a wide selection of music books and instruments. The workers are friendly and their greeter is cool.
Buenos productos electricos ..
I went to this store for a power conditioner. I purchased a Furman M-8lx for $189.95… it retails for $79.99 on Sweetwater. Had I not needed it immediately I would’ve never bought it. I understand a mark up but over 100 is absolutely ridiculous
It saddens me to write this review.
As a retail store i have never had a problem tho i have not tried to return something to them.
As far as tech services go it’s an absolute joke.
Do not have them service your equipment.
Whats a guitar shop good for that can’t set up a Floyd rose guitar?
Absolutely nothing.
First time in came back un tunable and not even set up the locking nuts where not even tightened, fret buzz, whammy bar loose.
Brought it back said they could give me half the money back. I told Oscar to plug it in and play it, and charge me what he felt was right he refused.”That would have been the right thing to do” and explained his straw boss ness and how he didn’t have authority to give me more money back. Rather than loose 64 bucks for just having strings half assdly put on and given no other options. i decide to give them a chance to remedy it. Also no apology for wasting my time and insulting me w the poor quality and absolute lack of Q.C.
get it back again not tuned and mostly set up intonations in the ball park the guitar tech gets a snark $10 tuner from the guitar tech room? to check my intonation. The techs are using a $10 dollar tuner not a rack tuner or even a decent tuner.
I’d be happier if i had just flushed 128 bucks down the toilet.
Again zero apology for wasting my time and trying to give me back my guitar w/o finishing the work.
I wish i had read the reviews before bringing it in. i thought they where a reputable shop. If i hadn’t tried to have them repair something i could still shop there and like them.
Great place to get music supplies ,the problem is the staff drum section the employee was very rude and sarcastic when I asked him if he had something in a lower price range he said good luck with that and walked away. Definitely need to learn customer service.
16. Tim’s Music
Address: 6818 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael, CA 95608 , Loomis , California , United States
I needed to rent a French Horn and couldn’t find anything near where I live in Nevada City. They had both a regular horn and a double to rent. I rented the latter. It is a beautiful, well-maintained instrument, provided with a nice case and mouthpiece. I needed a book to help me get back into the horn, which I hadn’t played in decades, and they had just the right book for me. The store beautifully showcases all manner of instruments. Very professional store and service. I highly recommend a visit there for any musician needing an instrument or music books.
This is a friendly place with a great customer service! The place has good prices for renting instruments
My 3 boys enjoyed the place!
Has some of the best and most knowledgeable repair staff in the world!
Great locally owned music store. Nice variety of instruments and a good repair shop. Knowledgeable and friendly staff!
Attended a piano recital on Sat 5th. Very well organized and music was enjoyable. Program was safe distancing and masks required. Students that participated were very involved.
Friendly staff and adequate selection for student musicians.
I have purchase and rented instruments here before. This time, five different staff said they would help, apparently what I wanted was not in stock and instead of letting me know, all left me waiting. After quite a wait we decided to leave. Someone caught us leaving and took our number to call and figure out how we could get ahold of the instrument. That was over 8 weeks ago, my phone never rang. They’ve lost a loyal customer.
This would be zero stars but a plug is warranted for John Doolittle’s sax lessons at the store of which I availed myself a couple of times. Zero stars involves me taking my alto sax there for repair. It’s over 50 years old but has had some restorative work done; fairly significant when I started playing again regularly about three years ago and more minor work several months ago and again following my unpleasant experience at Tim’s, the former by Kline Music and the latter by The Music Store in Rocklin. The guy at Kline is particularly known for his competence. The purported lead expert on reed instrument repairs at Tim’s told me my Selmer Mark VI needed a $1500 complete overhaul and they wouldn’t touch it for any lesser amount of work. The guy in Rocklin then fixed it for $65 and it plays just fine, as it did before it started acting up shortly before I took it to Tim’s. I played in church today and was complemented on my tone by their music director, who is a school music teacher and fellow owner of a Selmer Mark VI. An instrument in need of complete renovation obviously could not produce such a result. I got a different feel from the store than I did when I took lessons from Doolittle at the old location. Maybe they’ve bitten off more than they can chew financially but they’ve certainly lost my business.
