They’re so friendly and helpful! Service is top-notch. I always take my gear to Burts for mods and repair, their labor charge is very affordable.
A wonderful musical landmark in Coeur d’Alene. There’s nothing local to compare with the history and character of this shop, to say nothing of the very experienced and knowledgeable staff.
Great service and friendly staff. Good rental PA’s and reasonably priced.
Over priced.
Great knowledgeable staff!
Really good but switched my sax mouth piece for clarinet mouth piece
Bad experience
They fix guitars but your screwd if you got a Floyd rose. Other than that good store good people.
My nephew wanted a simple stater pack with guitar and amp, etc. Called Burt’s and they said they don’t ever have them and hung up.

Great inventory and great service.
Good selection. Carried amps by Dime.
Best tacos out the door.
Great music store. Very helpful
I was given 2 piano books for my birthday and I need the easy print books…so I asked my friend where he bought them..Mike’s music….so I went in and tried to exchange….said not unless I had e a receipt… its NOT like anyone gives the receipt with a birthday gift!!! What a jerk….I wont go back EVER
They do have great deals but only work with a few individuals that they approve.
Not anything special
3. NW Music
Address: 6055 N Sunshine St, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
Great people! Awesome place to rent student instruments or pick up any other music gear you need. The teachers there are also great!
I came in interested in getting some music recording equipment. I had somewhat of an idea what I needed but came hoping someone here could help me in the next steps. I got just that I felt. One of the guys at the desk helped me first with some simple needs and was chatting with me about guitar strings and decided to give them a try. So far I’m satisfied with the recommendation he gave me.
After bringing up the need of a way to record to my computer, he said he would need to bring their audio tech guy over. (not verbatim but the gist of what I remember being said) The guy he mentioned came over before being asked. So that told me he was attentive to his job. He proceeded to answer all of my questions, gave recommendations, comparing products, and helped me feel secure with making my large purchase.
What I found cool was the first guy who helped me, had stayed around to listen to the audio tech so he could learn some of the information himself. Always cool to see someone at their job wanting to learn more. I’m happy with my experience and will be back for future purchases!
It took a while, but just got my Mesa boogie strategy 500 Power amp back. This thing sounds absolutely killer now! Matt was extremely knowledgeable, and very courteous. Very much appreciated. Thank you NW music !
Very helpful in finding items for your instruments. The instruction is top drawer.
4 stars because they do have a great selection, prices are fair, and the store is very clean and organized. The staff at first seemed helpful but then seemed impatient, as I was asked if I was ready to check out while I was still looking at guitars with an item in my hand. Caught me off guard as I felt rushed after only being in the store a couple minutes and wasn’t near the register. Other than that, they have a great selection of beautiful guitars and quality gear.
I can only review the store in terms of the musical lessons. My daughter signed up for lessons and was given a start date of a month out. We showed up for the first lesson but there was no instructor. The front desk called the instructor who was on his way in for the appointment after ours. I was told I had to wait for the instructor to arrive before rescheduling. I accepted that there is a paperwork mix-up and rescheduled for the next week. Appointment attempt number two went fine. The instructor was on time and my daughter appreciated his efforts. However, lesson attempt number 3, resulted in no instructor again. This time I talk to the manager and she was slightly apologetic. Though I had emailed with the instructor previously, she claimed they could not contact me because they did not have a phone number. After a 66% no no-show rating I decided I’d had enough with the place. Your results may differ, and I hope they do. I have no doubt that if I would have missed appointments I still would have been billed for the time. But they had no respect for my time.
Im furious with the service here. I understand that a business needs to make money. But the manager there a young man, tried to upsale me on everything. And I was shopping as a newcomer to the instrument I was there for. So it seemed a little not nice to me. Then I get to the counter and a different young man is ringing me up and my price comes out to much more then the items were explained to me. And unless I said something the Young man wouldn’t have thought twice. So I bring it up and he figures out that it had been misslabled. And was 15 dollars more then the sticker price. The manager asked the other gentelmen what the cost price was for the item as if he were going to give me that price. Saw it on the computer and said let’s see what else we have back here. And went back and got me a cheap version so that my price would match. I wanted so badly to tell the manager that I wanted the sticker price as it was not my fault that it was posted that way and that I was explained to that it was that price. And that it’s very bad business to instead of make it right, to just downgrade my product to match the price… I’m furious. And I hope who ever the owner is sees this and has a talk with their employees. I’m sorry to the owner that I leave this review you probably would have done the right thing.
One star is too many. I realized after opening the package that I accidentally bought 12-string guitar strings. When I tried to exchange them for the more suitable 6 strings, I was told that once they were open, the sale is final. Speaking of final, that was my last purchase at this store.
Tony Cox
PS– Having no use for the strings, I donated them to the store.
4. MusiCare
Address: 391 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
Mike renovated my 51 year-old Leblanc “Duke” series tenor sax and then repaired an issue with the case that had caused the problems with my sax. I had taken it to two other shops who worked on it for a combined three weeks and got nowhere. Could not be happier with the work and the way they treated me. Only place to go in Eastern Idaho.
Absolutely phenomenal service. Definitely experts in their field and will treat you as a friend. Great prices and great selection. What more can you ask for?
These guys really know what they are doing when it comes to instrument repair
The guy that was working there was not very friendly but they got the job done
Just a little expensive but they had what we needed
They had what I needed
5. Chesbro Music Company
Address: 327 W Broadway St, Idaho Falls, ID 83402 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
Can’t recommend enough. The guitar tech is excellent.
Got a great deal from friendly people. Really enjoyed shopping there.
Great music store. I play the guitar and they have a good selection of guitars, amps, and pedals.
I just wish they had Gibson guitars but that’s pretty much out of their power so no fault to them.
Very nice place
Friendly service had what I was looking for
They had amazing set up, music stock, instrument stock, and friendly people. Great place to go for most music needs. Repair for instruments is around the corner, though.
I would never shop at this store, I made the mistake of signing my son up for their rental program which is nothing more than a high interest, high harassment loan scam. These guys are a complete joke. The complete lack of customer service, along with the harassing phone calls, and creepy home visits are enough for me to contact law enforcement. DO NOT give this company your business!
I went there, asked to borrow a guitar cable, and the old guy there said “what for?” After explaining the obvious, he said he didn’t want me playing anything unless I was going to buy something. He then tried to force me to use an amp that I didn’t want to use. After he walked away, I plugged into the tube amp that I wanted to use. He then came back and told me that I wasn’t allowed to play any of the tube amps that were out for people to try. My question is this: why have the tube amps out on the showroom floor if people aren’t allowed to try them? I’m never coming back.
If it would allow me to give less than a full star I would have. Will never step foot in this establishment again.
6. Dunkley Music
Address: 1160 Blue Lakes Blvd N, Twin Falls, ID 83301 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
Amazing music store! I told Tony I wanted a beginner’s electric guitar and he recommended the Fender Telecaster which I like a lot and fit my budget. I also asked for many accessories including a mini amp so I can plug my headphones into my guitar and he recommended me the best stuff! He also threw in a 10% discount on many items as part of the package deal which he didn’t have to do! I checked and the prices beat Amazon for the most part, I’m very satisfied and would highly recommend this place.
Excellent customer service. Very nice store.
I am pleased to be the Piano Tuner/Technician for Dunkley Music in Twin Falls.
7. Seidel Music & Repair
Address: 344 Thain Rd, Lewiston, ID 83501 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
Really helpful staff explained about the instrument and let me try it out.
These guys know their guitars
The guys there at Seidel music were amazing! They dropped everything they were doing to help me pick out my new guitar. They also took the time to set it up properly before I left the store. I will be giving them as much business as I can!
Good place and quick.
Very knowledgeable staff
Very helpful and polite staff.
They ran a hard credit check on my credit report without my knowledge or consent. I’m very mad at the ding it caused my credit score. Plus it’s just cheaper to buy off amazon. These mom and pop shops are closing themselves down by their own actions. Bye-bye!
One gentleman who works there is nice but the other is quite rude and makes you feel like unless you buy from them, your stuff is garbage.
8. Blue Rider Music & Instrument Repair
Address: 595 W Ustick Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
My family has been going here for years for good reason! These folks do great work and have the best dogs. I highly recommend them.
They were friendly and helpful. I rented a piccolo from them and it was great quality for a low price compared to Dunkley’s Music. I will definitely go to them for my next rental or if I need my horn repaired. They know how to fix and rent out a huge variety of horns. I was very impressed and will go back.
Great customer service these ladies KNOW their instrument!
Helpful staff! They got my son’s trumpet soldered and shined!
I need a trumpet mute and I don’t know if Blue Rider has one! Can someone help?
9. Gig’s Music
Address: 611 N Orchard St, Boise, ID 83706 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
Gigs is the true musicians music store. Dub is so knowledgeable and helpful. He’s saved my gig on numerous occasions now by helping me with hardware problems and I really appreciate it!
They don’t sell reeds…
I remember, not too long ago Gigs Music Company was owned and operated by Rick and Debbie Schroeder. They had an impressive enventory. Then it changed hands you another great musician who worked for the Schroeders from the beginning and held it’s integrity. It seems those days are over. I’ve been there a few times lately and it saddens me to say it’s really gone down hill. To say the service is poor would be a understatement. The inventory lacks quantity and quality both. It’s definitely not getting a favorable critique from me. Three stars is more than generous in my view.
Great help and service. Instruments were priced Right and in great condition for being used.
Egh. A big, mostly empty space filled with pawn shop guitars, dusty packs of new old stock strings, and rack gear from 1991.
Took a bass in for a jack resolder and pickgaurd replace. 10 months go on of having the utmost patience given while being told everytime I went in that “it’ll be ready in a couple days.” My guess is if you’re not a crusty 35 yr old prog metal 6 string bassist that the owner deems cool, you’ll stuff will never get fixed. I would’ve been better served learning how to solder myself. Go to 12th fret on Broadway instead.
Went by to sell a couple guitars and amps on a Saturday. Hours on the door say they open at 11, but it was 1115 and noone was there. Another customer in the parking lot told me that “sometimes this just happens” and said he texted the owner to see when they were coming. At 1130 we both left. Follow the hours you show.
10. 12th Fret Music
Address: 2164 S Broadway Ave, Boise, ID 83706 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
After working with the other music stores in Boise to no avail, I met Rob this summer and had him order me a Yamaha BB734 bass guitar. He kept me updated on what info he got from Yamaha regarding availability and shipping, and he called me the minute it came in. Both he and Benji made me feel welcome every time I came in the shop and did all he could to find me my new guitar. Give Rob and Benji a chance and I think you’ll become a fan of 12th Fret Music. They make you feel welcome and are both musicians that know how to help you get what you need. Thanks gents, I love my new Yamaha !!!
Tech animal Steve saved my rare Ripper bass from certain death. The service and friendly staff make this my ONLY music store. Do yourself a favor and stop by and say “Hi” to Rob for me.
Daryl sold the business to new owners and they are not very knowledgeable about guitar repairs or timely about getting back to you. I had to take my guitar repairs to somewhere else to get it done right. But being a local shop, they are still better than a chain store in many ways.
Used stuff !! Cheap…
They bought my test equipment for repairs and haven’t paid! They are liars. No education in electronics at all!
Found the place to be a mix of junk and overpriced items. Might be the only local music shop in town, but it won’t be getting my money, given the owner’s criminal history, not a great place for kids.
Really bad service. I left and went to Guitar Center and spent $1700.00 at Guitar Center. Terrible place.
11. Welch Music Center
Address: 12516 Fairview Ave, Boise, ID 83713 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
In my opinion Welsh Music Center piano professionals are the best in Boise, a cut above all others. I’m totally satisfied and can with the fullest confidence highly recommend Welsh Music Center to all music lovers.
Great friendly help.
I recently purchased a Yamaha U3 piano with the silent feature from Welch’s and couldn’t be happier. Lanny, Michael and Chase were all awesome as I researched and tested before purchasing. They were helpful from start to finish. Superior product (Yamaha pianos are top in my book) and superior service. It should be noted that tuner they work with, Jon Bonine, is also wonderful!
Mediocre selection. Disinterested staff. No masks.
General music store. Several Baby Grand pianos, a limited number of guitar brands, sheet music, and a few accessories.
Do not youse there piano moving service. They chipped a good chunk of my piano, and didn’t take any responsibility for the incident! Go to Dorsey music, or any other store! JUST DONT LET WELCH MUSIC MOVE YOUR PIANO!
RENTER BEWARE! Insurance on rented instruments does not cover accidental damage. You are better off going to Dunkley and renting – their insurance DOES cover accidental damage. We found out the hard way and were first told that the insurance would cover the damage, then told it would not, and we were treated very rudely by the old guy who works there – I don’t think he can have a conversation without interrupting.
I went in with questions and the intention to purchase books. While waiting for the next available sales person I was going to check out the pianos. One of them asked me if I was going to buy a piano and I said no, and then they kicked me out. I’ll never come back.
12. Dunkley Music
Address: 3410 N Eagle Rd, Meridian, ID 83646 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
Great place with aside range of music gear! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. If they don’t have it in stock they are super willing to get it on order.
This is the second time I’ve used Dunkley to rent instruments for the kids. They make it easy, they are patient, and so knowledgeable. I even had them fix my old viola a few years ago. It was like new! I’ll never go anywhere else.
We love it there. Instruments are amazing and the customer service is awesome!
I have bought a Kawai CN25 from Marion in a total of sale price of 600 plus 13 month renting period. Ends up with about 1645 U.S dollar. I am really happy with what I’ve purchased. And Marion is very nice on settling the deals with me.
Back when Dunkley’s was in-town in Boise, I was an avid customer…they always have been professional and friendly all-in-one! They still are.
All of my musical equipment, specifically my violin and flute for school orchestra/band, came from here. And I am impressed with it nowadays!
GOOO Dunkley Music!!!
I enjoy DM very much. It’s so much fun to look around to see all the instruments they have in-store. They had the gift I was looking for (and then some). Someday, I’ll take those violin lessons. For now, I’m saving up to get myself that keyboard bench.
I hesitate to share this review because I’m sure they have quality product and talented professionals at Dunkley. However, both times I have visited the Boise location the customer service was non existent. I won’t speculate too much why (although I have my suspicions) but being completely ignored (not even made eye contact) by multiple employees for the entire duration of the visit is unacceptable service. I’ve heard from other people who’ve had the same experience. I’ll continue going to Dorsey music in Nampa for this reason.
I took my guitar to Dunkley Music to repair its broken bridge. A week passed without so much as a phone call or e-mail to give me an estimate for the work. I stopped in and an employee told me that they intended to give my guitar to an independent tech to fix it. Fine; no worries. Four weeks passed. FOUR WEEKS. No phone call, no e-mail. I finally returned to the store to get my guitar. A different employee greeted me and retrieved my guitar from among a dozen or so others, which were no doubt collecting dust while not being worked on. She said, “Let’s take a look and see that the work has been completed.” Shocker: it hadn’t. I told her that they had had five weeks now to at least take a look at it and give me an estimate. The fact that they hadn’t was a sure sign that they didn’t give a damn about me, my guitar, or my business. I would call the service terrible, but “non-existent” is a better descriptor.
The Dunkley’s have failed. Mark Dunkley has shown his true colors as a man that does not care about Boise, his Neighbors, and open space in Boise. I encourage all to patronise Welch Music.
He(they), sold out for money. Typical.
13. Guitar Center
Address: 5761 Fairview Ave, Boise, ID 83706 , Ma‘arratmişrīn , Idaho , United States
Great experience friendly worker named Kristen was knowledgeable and kind. She helped me choose a great acoustic guitar and sold us on one when we only walked in to browse . Would recommend.
I called in and the service was very friendly, and they helped me find a crash cymbal in under a minute!
I love the hands off approach to selling guitars, with no pressure to buy. Usually my second stop if I cant find something at one of the local shops.
Helpful courteous staff. Fair pricing!
Stock is limited currently. Not sure if it is a Covid Issue, weather or the bankruptcy. Still able to find what I needed.
The guitar luthier at this store is a hack. Took my new mandolin in to have it tuned up. Charged me $60. The bridge was installed incorrectly. They didn’t even tune it. Beware!!
No help even after asking multiple times, everything is in disarray and very unorganized, lots of the display stuff is broken. Clearly this place is poorly managed and no one takes any pride in what they do.
A very negative experience. No one greeted my friend and me or offered to help us. When I did approach the staff they made it clear they were not interested in providing services. (I originally went in to purchase certain sheet music which I did not find. I figured while I was there I would ask about getting my guitar restrung. They said the person who restrings them was too backed up to make appointments. This doesn’t make sense for a couple of reasons. The first being that the whole point of appointments is time management when you are busy. The second reason being that it seems odd that in a store dedicated to guitars, that only one employee would know how to restring them.) There are other, much better, music stores in Boise so I will not be returning here.
