My son has learned a great deal about music theory during his 1st year of lessons. I was worried that he was too rambunctious for piano lessons, but Lalette is an expert at channeling all that energy into music and learning. She is incredibly patient and an excellent teacher. Highly recommend.
Lalette is wonderful with kids. She builds a relationship with them while teaching music playfully and building on their personal interests and tastes! She is also a talented musician in her own right!

Address: 9380, 9340 Glacier Hwy #43A, Juneau, AK 99801 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Definately the warmest and most courteous customer service I’ve ever encountered.. Walked in with my daughter was quickly asked if I would like to check out an instrument.. Asked for 12 string acoustic the gentlemen grabbed the last one hanging quickly tuned it up, without hesitation the most comfortable place I have been in a long time.. Just blown away … Prices were just amazing.. If you hace instruments that need a tune up or service needed strongly recommend bringing it to them thank you very much the “TAVARES FAMILY”..
There’s a few places that I’ve felt the heavens have touched the earth. This place is DEFINITELY one of them and the staff aint too shabby either
Nice people and products
Awesome store , great service
Great selection of instruments and a knowledgeable, friendly staff.
Was actually at hi fi store.
Sexist, rude, and over priced.
4. Walmart
Address: 4230 Don King Rd, Ketchikan, AK 99901 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Beautiful art pieces! We got a copper piece for our living room wall and a small gecko for our daughter’s room. Delivery was great and everything arrived perfect.
Amazing selection of turquoise jewelry by known artisans! Sam and staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Love my purchase!
Sal gave us great service! Lovely store, full of gorgeous artifacts. Easy to find, not pushy sales approach, nice music, authentic Alaskan jewelry. Love my new Mammoth tooth bracelet. Thanks, Soaring Eagle.
After walking from the ship to town wandering around, I needed a place to sit, then I noticed beautiful carved seats in front of Soaring Eagle. After a few mins I decided to walk in and goodness they have such interesting things here, the art and hand work of most of the items in the store are absolutely amazing. I treated it more of like a museum rather than a store. LOL
Goodness, an arm and a leg for some of these items. Missing a star, after reading many reviews, their business practice seems pretty shadyyy!
Cool and nice
Kenneth james lee Smith has active warrants in Hawaii I as well as no license for assault on a official domestic violence and is currently thought to be traveling with the owner Rob and Chad unlicensed he’was just released for a second domestic violence charge of a second victim highly dangerous contact police if spotted
STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE!!
We purchased an expensive wood carving that they agreed to ship to our home address. Not only did they not ship it, they won’t even respond to our phone calls.SCAM!! Save your money. Look at the dates on the favorable reviews. Most of them are years old.
This store refuses to replace an item my mother bought and has lied to her about replacing it multiple times. My parents visited the store off of a cruise ship in May 2018. She purchased a cane with a ram head carved onto the handle for $75, left the store, and returned to the cruise ship. While using the cane that same evening on the cruise ship, it snapped in half while she was walking. Disappointed and hoping to get a replacement, she called the store from Juneau the next day. They said “this never happens” and “please send us a picture.” Since my mother couldn’t use her phone on the ship, she sent the picture of the broken cane 2 weeks later. The customer service representative confirmed receipt of the picture of the ram cane, and sent my mother pictures of potential replacements, none of which were the ram cane she wanted and had purchased. She continued to email and call requesting that the store send her a replacement ram cane. Finally after about 5 conversations with the same female customer service representative, they told my mother they were sending a bear cane to replace the ram cane that broke. It never arrived. After calling one last time and speaking to the same woman to let them know she never received the replacement, she confirmed again that “it was in the mail.” This was mid-August. Nothing has arrived.
Beware poor quality products and poor customer service. My mother is too nice of a person to write this review so I gladly did it for her
BEWARE- I have tried to contact this company by phone, email and through their Facebook page in relation to a large expensive piece of art purchased in August 2022 which has not been delivered. Dealt with Chad and Sal and they have failed to contact me. No answer from phone. Buyer beware.
8. Rendezvous Thrift Store
Address: 2711 Tongass Ave, Ketchikan, AK 99901 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Rendezvous is always an exciting stop. Could be 15 min, could be an hour. It has tons of treasures and the employees are always friendly.
Always bustling, and an enjoyable experience. Rusty and his team are always “service with a smile”. You never know what you will find.
Good thrift store
They usually are pretty handy when finding gently used items, or rare finds. The store is not as organized as it used to be,but still has plenty to offer.
I always find treasure there!
always have good finds
Extremely rude staff, non transparent pricing, when attempts at negotiation are made they act hostile.
9. Pilothouse Coffee
Address: 2106 Tongass Ave, Ketchikan, AK 99901 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
What’s not to love about Pilothouse?! Their coffee is amazing! Their Egg Frittatas are the BEST in Ketchikan. And have you met their Baristas??? So stinking friendly!
Great coffee shop. Free wifi, excellent food and the coffee is delicious. I enjoy coming here to do homework.
Great place to stop in for coffee if you don’t want to deal with downtown coffee. Also a nice place to sit and work since they have wifi.
A little pricey for the value but the best place to study in town.
I really e joy going to this place, I do not know who is usually there to make my drink. She makes it a specific way. I went in today and a different girl was working, I don’t know her name she had short hair but so does the other barista who I absolutely adore. It wasn’t very busy there was no line. First off, I ordered a red bull Italian soda and she put in Italian soda, as I tried to explain to her how my usual barista makes my red bull Italian soda, she responded with “I know how to make an Italian soda.” Very rude, I will not be visiting the establishment again while she is working. I’ve been going in ever weekday for a couple weeks now. I was nearly in tears when I walked out. Please, whoever owns this place, this young lady needs to learn manners. My drink is made in a specific way and she wouldn’t even allow me to tell her how I wanted it. 9/30/2022 11:12 am is when I went in.
CLOSED DOWN
We walked 30 min based on a recommendation for this place, and everything online says it’s open. We got here and it’s closed down. No signs, no notice, no reason. It’s noon on a Thursday. So we wrote into Google and took photos to let them know this has closed. We’re bummed. I wonder if they changed locations? Either way… would have like to have tried when they were open.
While it’s fun going to community meet ups here, outside of that the chick that works mornings isn’t very friendly or welcoming… definitely not going out of my way to spend money here anymore. I’d recommend b&d or local grounds if you want more friendly interaction to start your day.
10. The Salvation Army Family Store & Donation Center
Address: 305 Stedman St, Ketchikan, AK 99901 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Wonderful thrift store with lots of goodies and hidden gems. Worth a short walk from the cruise ship terminal or take the free shuttle bus which drops you off near the store.
Came here a year ago and found some nice stuff!
The people are friendly
Good
Nice people there, very helpful with clothing. In fair prices!
Books over priced
Prices marked are not consistant; two things identical one marked .49 and other marked1.00.
I hate this kind of thing.
11. Family Air Tours & Hook Up Fly Shop
Address: Tongass National Forest, 1621 Tongass Ave, Ketchikan, AK 99901 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Nick showed us the best spots for fly fishing. He also made sure the bears didn’t bother us. He is a great guide and patient with beginners.
We had a great experience on 9/1/2023 during a Misty Fjords floatplane tour. We flew in a classic DeHavilland Beaver aircraft that has been meticulously cared for. Our pilot handled the plane expertly and we were able to land on a mountain lake and stretch our legs before returning to Ketchikan. I’d recommend this trip to anyone that hasn’t experienced flying on a floatplane!
Spectacular Experience, Nick and Dave were very knowledgeable and friendly
Left us waiting until the last minute (instead of at least shooting us an email) to cancel due to supposedly bad weather while the other operators were flying.
Great thanks to Misty Fjords Air for helping us out instantly and giving us three spots on their next available flight while the guy from family air tour just shrugged and said “you’ll get a full refund” when we asked him for an alternative tour or idea as to what to do instead of the flight. This seemed to be a reoccurring issue as the guys working for the other operators asked us “you were booked with family air, weren’t you?” When we came inside the visitor center to find a new tour.
All in all I recommend you stay away from this company if you want a reliable partner, especially when you’re on a cruise ship and only have a few hours in Ketchikan.
ETA: thank your for your quick reply. I would like to set straight that I did in fact provide all the contact information at the time of booking which was back in may and have received both a booking confirmation and the voucher for this tour via email. Also while I fully understand that the companies sometimes have to cancel flights due to inclement weather we had an amazing experience with misty fjords air and saw plenty of other planes around while we were in the air.
12. Alaska Crêpe Co
Address: 625 Mission St, Ketchikan, AK 99901 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Had the Monte Cristo. Made to order. These guys are great.
It was soooooo good!! I would eat here day and night for all three meals of the day, it was amazing!!
Great options both savory and sweet.
Muito bom crepe! Provei o crocante de maçã e caramelo e é realmente muito bom! Uma pena que não tem wi-fi.
It was so good I wanted to take my daughter but she’s home sick with stage four cancer.❤ I got the blt and even tho I have severe gout the bacon was too friggin good!
Very good creperie,especially with blueberries
Not really all that great to be honest. I was not in a rush, my family arrived less than 30 minutes after opening on a weekday. They had a staff of six (that you could see in front, see picture) serving 18 or so customers. We waited for 40 plus minutes before I even asked about our order, only to be told I was next and then received piping hot crepes seven minutes later. Yikes…they seem a bit disoriented, my group was not the only one openly wondering why there was such a holdup. To make matters worse they have gigantic screens flashing social media connections saying rate us five stars, it says please rate us on the napkin boxes, etc. I don’t think you can mess up crepes, food was pretty decent but nothing spectacular, they get another star for the chill atmosphere. Maybe we caught them on a bad day…but we weren’t impressed.
Over priced and undersized tourist gimmick. I wasn’t a fan to begin with, will never eat here after seeing their stupid YouTube ad over and over. Maybe use that advertising money to make decent products
Meh. Got the salmon. Cream cheese was super salty and over flavored. Filled me up but didn’t taste very good. My buddy liked his BLT.
13. Ward Cove Cruise Ship Pier
Address: 7691 N Tongass Hwy, Ketchikan, AK 99901 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Great giant Port warehouse style shopping store, restaurant, and excursion start point. Found several amazing souvenirs there.
Great shopping pier, good prices. Something for everyone
Looks a little sparse at the moment, but has the potential to be very cool when complete
You have no choice. It’s where norwegian docks.
loved this Lil shopping area of the ships dock. Just in time for a much needed rest. My only complaint was the work coming down to the waterfront. My lungs filled with dust coming back from town on a bus. This shopping area has medicine and souvenirs, lol.
Appears to be an example of NCL cost cutting. Rather than berthing in Ketchikan, NCL ships berth at this industrial port (with a made to order gift shop) and proved converted school buses for the half hour ride into Ketchikan… where you’ll see the other cruise liners.
Took way too long to exit cruise ship and get transportation to points of interest.
Tourist trap shopping. Dirty industrial reclamation. Maybe it’s on the rise? Gets the job done, but I wished our ship docked in the city rather than a 20 minute bus ride away.
14. Soho Coho
Address: 5 Creek St, Ketchikan, AK 99901 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Such lovely items in this gift shop! Wonderful Ray Troll t-shirts, beautiful ceramics and silver jewellery.
Great selections of t-shirts. Featuring products designed / made by local artists. Very friendly staff.
The shirts are so amazing! Ih it’s a cute little shop, right on the creek street. If your looking for a great gift for that special someone, this is your place.
Great place to get something authentic Alaskan from a local artist.
Very popular tourist attraction, great locally made pictures, drawings and gifts. Very friendly staff.
Very artsy shop
I was insulted because i was assault victim who cant wear a mask because it triggers my PTSD of being duct taped. The lady in said get out we have a high level right now. Very inconsiderate people and said hurtful remarks about asians. For shame. Disregards these other reviews. They are old or fake acounts for my sake if you care about victims of assault. I cant say the r word because of the terms of service. Thank you for understanding
15. McDonald’s
Address: 2417 Tongass Ave, Ketchikan, AK 99901 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Friendly staff. Very clean!
We took free shuttle here from cruise
McDonald’s is one fast food place that has lasted in our small town. The reason is that they have kept up there standards and I really appreciate that they do.
Drive Thru and Mobile Order features work great. Especially during the days of COVID-19. This place also has good value and taste when it comes to fast food.
McDonald’s is McDonald’s no matter where you go. Staff are nice, food is… well, it’ll keep you going. I mostly go when I’m in a rush. Decent hot chocolates and milkshakes though.
It was decent.
Quick and filling
Cold, old fries.
I ordered a Vanilla shake. Either they changed how they make their Vanilla Milkshakes or this location can’t get a vanilla milkshake right. Either way I’m immensely displeased and disappointed. I haven’t been this disappointed since my dad went to the store to buy milk and didn’t come back. At least my dad didn’t take $3.59 from me when he left. you can even see brown on the side of the cup… either this is a caramel shake or the machine is leaking motor oil into its dispenser. I mean this in the most sincere manner…. I would rather piss lightning than drink another Motor oil shake.
It needs cleaning….
16. Matanuska Music
Address: 280 N Willow Dr, Wasilla, AK 99654 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Great store, always have what I need from instruments to guitar strings.
awesome, knowledgeable peeps.
Staff, very helpful
It’s all about the bass, bout the bass. No treble!
Was able to make fast repairs
Purchased a guitar and amp with all of the accessories for a new player. Upon picking up the guitar, the amp I picked out was sold, and another amp was put on the table with no explanation of where the other amp was. The amp was a decent brand, so I didn’t say anything, and the amp was also new. After using the amp, I had significant issues that I had to troubleshoot. Nothing worked. I returned them amp and explained what I had done to troubleshoot, and they did not want to look at it. I asked for the original amp I picked out, and the staff became angry and aggressive. I attempted to calm things down and solve the issue, but then they gave me the amp that I had originally played and asked me to leave. I will never return.
These Guys has absolutely no clue about what they’re selling/doing.
Better drive 100 miles more instead dealing with these non professional “sellers??????”
Keep you money don’t buy here
17. Old Town Music
Address: 507 Frontage Rd, Kenai, AK 99611 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
I love this store. Very nostalgic for me. The man who owns it is very helpful, and very encouraging. He knows his stuff, too.
Ran out of guitar strings slightly after closing hours. I called and the owner was more than willing to meet me there. Such a kind man. Man also likes his music. He asked if it was an emergency and I replied back “no, just a broken guitar string”. So happy he made my night!!!!
Old Town music has old time service which is hard to find today. Very talented staff!
Accused me of stealing my first time in the store, because of the age I supposedly look. Even tho I had items on the counter, and clearly was ready to pay. Not real great service in general. Rude. Won’t be back.
Do not buy a guitar from this store unless you know 100% what your buying is worth what your paying.
I needed a guitar and when there
Payed 300 for a guitar came to find out it was a 75$ guitar from wall mart
Refused to do any return and stated to me
“ that’s just the way we do busyness”
I replied that he had lost a customer and if he continued to do busyness this way it would catch up with him.
Just a heads up.
This place will get you if you let them!
Avoid this place of possible. Since they open at 12 o’clock I sat there till one o’clock and they had yet to open I get the whole musician hours thing but. Not opening for an hour there’s no excuse besides pure laziness. I refuse to give such a business my money and you earn this one star.
18. Whiteys Music Shoppe
Address: 43335 Kalifornsky Beach Rd #26, Soldotna, AK 99669 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Doing a little homework on getting started with a guitar and Scott took his time and gave me information when he was getting in a new shipment of guitars and was very informative I really appreciated his time.
Excellent service and resource for instruments and music supplies. The music lessons are a fantastic flow for the business. The staff couldn’t be more exceptional. Instrument repair and used equipment are professionally done and maintained for turnover. Prices are reasonable and flexible.
Ready like the store very helpful and always friendly attitude thank you
Whitey’s had a pretty good vibe. It’s not a huge music store, but it does have a decent selection of instruments to choose from. The staff was very helpful and helped me get exactly what I was looking for while making small talk. Overall a good experience. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because it’s pretty small and might not have everything you’re looking for, but it’s worth a visit to stop by and ask.
Doesn’t open till 12 o’clock and is closed on Thursdays.
Update: drove 30 miles today to come to whiteys, only to find that they were closed on Wednesday at 530 when there sign clearly stated till 6 pm….I knew this hence why I drove that from to come here……..this is infuriating…….how’s a business of such low caliber stay alive……..too bad I have to give them a star at all
19. Music Mart & Studios
Address: 413 Noble St, Fairbanks, AK 99701 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Very nice helpful people, they are and enjoyed looking around and trying out their line of stomp boxes.
It has all your music needs. I love it there, could have browsed more.
Selection is large. Service was friendly but seemed slightly off putting while browsing. Once a purchase was made, service became exponentially better. Would do business again.
Not a wide range when it comes to violin accessories. Still a good music store though.
My kids love it.
I came in with my dad to look at guitars and to ask a price on his old banjo. I know my instruments and how to find the correct prices on used items. The lady who helped us, gave us the correct price, but she was talking down to us the whole time. I have never seen my dad treated so rudely.
Expensive
Not impressed by their customer service, although I did get what I needed done, thus the 2 stars. I’ve been a few times over a period of 7 years and both times they were rude. I’ve also known people who have said they were rude. I’ll try Pro Music next time perhaps.
20. New York Cafe
Address: 211 Stedman St, Ketchikan, AK 99901 , Metlakatla , Alaska , United States
Love this place. Food is great and the service is amazing.
We stop here every time we are in town. We love the breakfast foods..bagels with salmon, the coffee, etc. AND you can get a flight of beer any time! We have had breakfast beers and lunch beers here! The servers are always super friendly and there’s free wifi! Stop in if you need a good meal at a reasonable price!
An awesome place for food and drink. A well executed menu coupled with good service and a view.
Good food, expensive, but good
Very nice and cozy place to visit, make you feel like the old towns keeping the history and time on it. Service is good and is exactly downtown. Highly recommended.
Nice cafe with a rich history. Had a coffee latte and cake and they were wonderful. One can see the cruise ships docked from across the large windows . The founders were a Japanese American couple in 1903 where they started in downtown. Due to segregation in the 1920’s they ( along with Chinese and other minorities) were forced to move to the south part of town called Indian town where the present location is. They were again forced to move to the interment camp during world war ll where neighbors looked after their shop and hotel and given back after the war
Very slow. Waited way too long for my chowder to go.
Mediocre food, coffee was not good. Service was slow. Would not recommend
Waited about 45 minutes to be waited on. We were very patient as it was steady, not too crazy though. We were brought water and menus after about 30 minutes, then nothing again until we left 15 minutes later. We gave up and ate popcorn we had bought. Sad to lose that much time we could have spent exploring. Food looked good, albeit pricey.
