The Taylor Brothers known as the SMF Band always say……We love this place and always have… My Brother Johnny and I ,love Sarah…..just like our Music Mom know’swhat you need……she gets it fast for you at best the price….thank you Sarah.. from the Taylor boys
EDIT: I’ve since started to come back to this store, and it’s way better. I’m so happy to see that it has improved! I really need to learn the names of the staff, but the one guy with the beard who’s picture is on the website is honestly the best there. He helps you with what you’re looking for, and goes out of his way to help. This place used to be a one star for me, but now it’s all 5. Thanks for the improved experience!
I came to this store about a year and a half ago to change some guitar strings because I was too lazy to go all the way to the Guitar Center in SF. I was amazed when changing the high e string only cost 1$, but that was only when the old man (I don’t know his name) helped me. When I went there again to change strings, it was 6$ for the high e string. Why? Because this fat white and blonde man changed them. He rips you off on prices, unless you have a woman with you. My mom went with me once, and everything we wanted to buy, he would give us huge discounts without asking his boss or anyone if he could. And If you go alone and you’re a man, get ready to be ripped off. In conclusion, this place is only useful if you have the old man helping you, even though he barely has a voice anymore. But, everything and everyone else is just completely useless. Needs to go out of business. Haven’t gone back for 1 year and a half, and feel much better driving an hour through traffic all the way to Van Ness, SF getting my strings changed. Terrible.
I got great personal attention. David answered a lot of my questions both on the phone and in the store for a rental saxaphone for my 9 year old nephew.
Store has new and used equipment for sale or rent. Rental equipment is much more reasonable than Serramonte music center.
This weekend I came into Manor to pick up some sheet music for inspiration. I picked up a few older books from the back of the store, and I was surprised that they charged the original cover print price (~$20 per book) on books printed in 1995.. I should have spoken up at the time, but the more I thought about it the more I wanted to know if this was a mistake? !
My wife told me that this store is much more customer friendly compared to the one at Grand Ave at downtown South San Francisco even though manor music equipment may not be as complete as the other one, but the people running this store are really nice. if you need to go to the store, I suggest to call them ahead because their store hours could be tricky. In addition, if you need to borrow any musical instrument, do not go the last minute. They may be able to get you one if you give enough time. Please support this local business.
Terrible attitude. Not helpful. Never go back again!
2. The Violin Shoppe
Address: 501 San Mateo Rd, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019 , Montara , California , United States
I was looking for a hard to find digital piano that was out of stock everywhere. B street sold it to me without any markup even though this is high demand product. Really couldn’t be happier with being connected to the musical instrument that I was looking for.
Cheaper than Amazon and much better service
Amazing music store. Really friendly and helpful staff. Best place to buy accessories for any instrument. I bought an Otto Link Metal mouthpiece for Tenor and they let me test it out. They also gave me a nice discount:) I would give this place 6 stars out of 5 if I could.
tiny tiny shop. sad to see they downsized and the people renting musical instruments etc. has declined over the years.
Friendly and they know their stuff.
6. Serramonte Music Center
Address: 583 St Francis Blvd, Daly City, CA 94015 , Montara , California , United States
Every kind of books and information that you need about musical instruments, you will be able to find.
So much variety and equipment! You can find sheet music too. Everyone is so nice and sometimes you can catch some nice piano practicing.
Definitely would recommend and visit again
Instructors are very nice and easy to work with
Friendly well-equipped music store. Needed a cheap harmonica for my class. The nice assistant found me just what I needed rather than try to sell me something expensive.
The older man isnt very welcoming. However there was a nicer younger man.
The worst place to buy a instrument they sold me a junk instrument for 1,000 when I went back with receipt they gave me run around and would not take it back
7. Steve Swan Guitars
Address: 1519 Old Bayshore Hwy, Burlingame, CA 94010 , Montara , California , United States
Bought my main instrument from Steve many years ago. He took the time to help me find what was right, patiently and carefully, and as a result, it’s still may favorite instrument. He listens, pays attention, and helps his clients zero in on what they want. 6 out of 5….
One the nicest business man I have ever met I felt like Charlie Buckets in Willy Wonkas chocolate factory. He is very polite and patience. He greet us very nicely when we walk in. He probably has the best selection of new and vintage upright basses and he is very knowledgeable about what he is talking about he spent a hour and a half taking us through he inventory of over 70 different upright basses. bassist or not any musician should check this place out and also meet his dog.
If you’re into playing bass, this is where you want to shop. Steve is extremely accommodating, and I spent two and a half hours there trying different basses with different bows. Steve’s approach is solid. He provides information, and then leaves you alone so that you can hear the bass that you’re playing… Finding and purchasing the right bass or bow can be a time-consuming experience. Steve’s approach makes it much easier, and I will definitely shop there again!
I put my guitar on consignment with Steve about 2 years ago. He lent it out for long spans of time without my permission and eventually sold it without informing me. Then he said he needed the money for his own bills, so he couldn’t pay me. He’s obviously got problems that should keep anyone from trusting him. I’m taking him to small claims court over it.
8. Nathaniel Evans
Address: PO Box 3150, Half Moon Bay, CA 94109 , Montara , California , United States
Friendly neighborhood shop offering instrument sales and rental. Good service.
Amazing service! Very friendly management!
Nice instrument. Closed when sing reads open.
Cozy place, new and used instruments, variety of sheet music, they also suggested cello lessons.
Fraudulent. I rented an instrument for my daughter’s school year then returned it. They continued to charge my card so I called them and they said they would stop charging and refund me. They didn’t and continued to charge me. Then 3 months later ($350 extra in EXTRA rental fees) and I call them and they say they don’t have the instrument! They want me to pay for it! Absolutely insane. Don’t EVER use them.
I came in to sell my 2013 gibson. Right when i walked into the store i was greeted by a lady who worked there who immediately said “sorry, not interested”. She didn’t even take a look at the guitar. I’m a little annoyed that the front of their store says “buy-sell-rentals” but it doesnt seem like they buy anything. Drove all the way here for nothing…
Musical instruments shop with a few sound proofed rooms in the back for lessons. They carry unknown brands and charge a premium for rental, even for elementary students.
11. Guitar Center
Address: 53 W Hillsdale Blvd Suite A, San Mateo, CA 94403 , Montara , California , United States
The best place to grab the things you need to make music.
The employees really care about their customers here! I always feel they go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied.
Friendly helpful staff.
Me gusta mucho mas q el de san francisco y luego en san francisco muy sucio no limpian
Staff is alwaysbthere to assist! Just no lefty Guitar options
It was a nice setting. Great place, it was busy but still we got the help we needed.
Chad is a total bell end. Came in to talk about a used buy in. He first of all saw me from the other side of the counter and instead of walking over those few steps, just wags his heads quickly and expects me to talk. I want to sell, he doesn’t have time to test it out and flatly tells me to “go take a walk at myself”. I could not believe me eyes. How does this guy have a job?!?!
Just don’t go here, they are genuinely mean here, and they hate anyone coming into the store. It’s a toxic environment, shop online or go to your local music store , especially if you are a happy type person they are especially rude to you if they detect kindness.
