Needed a trumpet tune-up after joining a band after seven years of not playing one of my trumpets. Valves and slides were completely jammed, so brought it by to see if they could help before trying anything forceful. The rep there (I think Avery?) immediately understood the problem and was responsive in ensuring I had a functioning trumpet and everything I needed.
My trumpet needed special attention due to the prolonged period of time, but the staff were proactive in calling me with estimated timelines and updates. Got the trumpet back with the valves working, a new harmon mute, and mouthpiece for a great value. Will be my go-to stop for any more gear!

My experience was not to good. I had to wait a long time before i was assisted in buying a bass with amp. I had to get an employee s attention just to get service. The females working there are nice and polite. The male employee that was trying to help me seemed to know very little about was good to buy for first time bass player. Ill go back and see if i get better service.

I was happy until the saxophone broke 3 weeks after renting it. I thought We were getting an instrument in good shape but apparently it was not the case.
Also, the lady at the store is very nice until you ask them to expedite the repair process or question them why they take so long to fix the instrument that never should have broken in first time if it was inspected and sterilized not too long ago.
She was a rude on the phone and she just think that talking to my daughter’s teacher will solve any inconvenience. It does not, because my daughter can’t practice without the saxophone so the one that they should be concern is about my girl missing practice time and getting behind. The store was better before Covid. It was all open and had a large selection. Now they have most of the store closed off and the lights aren’t all on. Call before you go to make sure they have what your looking for. The owners are knowledgeable.

Complete trash, terrible sevice. They don’t have a wide selection of books that actually matter when trying to become a great musician. Over priced on everything, buy everything online. They don’t know how to properly repair instruments. I took ina saxophone that I bought from them and they didn’t fix everything. I told them the pads were sticky and they didn’t fix them. Quality of the instruments they sell is extremely low. I wouldn’t recommend to people that actually care about creating music.

Absolutely love Nicholson’s Music Store (and cafe!) The owner’s are amazing people, super knowledgeable and friendly folks. You can also have music lessons there, as well as get repairs done if there’s any damage to your instrument. One of my favorite places in Folsom 🙂
I have nothing but good things to say about the people at Nicholson Music. All have been very friendly and go out of their way to make sure our needs are met. When my daughter started violin lessons this year they were very careful to ensure she had a high-quality instrument that was properly set up. Erich Nicholson is an especially nice, friendly and funny guy… very warm and personable and makes us feel like “one of the family” when we’re in the store. I’ve been in the store dozens of times and have never seen or heard anyone being treated rudely. As far as playing the guitars, they are all clearly marked with tags asking that people ask before playing, which is understandable for instruments costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars. So as far as the gentleman who was reprimanded for playing without asking, I respectfully suggest he put his reading skills to use. In my experience, the staff is more than happy to provide you with any guitar and a private room to try it out.

The staff is cool, and so is the person giving violin lessons. However, the owner is rude to paying customers and even to children.
The owner says you can try out guitars, but really, he will micromanage and demand you buy it if he decides you’ve “used his strings too much.” Why even bother letting people try out guitars if you’re going to make people take off jewelry and anything that could scratch the guitar, and then still find a way to act like they are an inconvenience for playing a guitar when you said they could play? Very bad ownership.
Don’t spend money here, especially on your kids. My kid was given permission to try out a guitar by the staff, and then the owner literally ripped the guitar from my kid’s hands, scolded him for using up too much string, demanded he pay for the guitar, and then kicked us out while our other kid was in a PAID violin lesson. Would give 0 stars, never coming back. By the way, we’ve spent enough money at your store previously to pay for that guitar, let alone the fact that we could’ve paid for it. Way to lose money for yourself And next time you want to disrespect someone’s kid, don’t. Sorry you can’t afford to replace $3 wholesale strings on guitars after customers try them out. Maybe just don’t let people try the guitars since you seemingly can’t mentally handle that. And before you try to lie, we were not disrespectful or damaging your property in ANY way. My kid is very respectful. We actually thought you were joking until you kicked us out. Praying for you.
Very snooty to non music experts
They gave me a pretty old violin when I rented out for my kid and had to pay an advance of 120$ @$30 per month+insurance. It had recurring issues and I had to return it in a month and lost my 3 months advance and deposit. Please make sure to rent only new ones from this place.

Had an amp in there for six months that was more broken when I got it back, than when I brought it in, due to their “guitar tech” Steve. Worst music store in North California, if I could give zero stars I would.

I rented a sax that i can’t afford anymore, but my experience was good. They have a nice rent to buy program that I want to take advantage of in the future, and the voice lessons are something I’ve always wanted to invest in and learn.
My sons mouthpiece got stuck in his trumpet. We walked in and they removed it for us at no charge. The service was awesome and they are very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back! And they have private lessons at a very reasonable charge!

I rented a used violin for my son from the shop. They said the price was $199. The rental was $35 per month. after two months if you want to own the violin then they said they would deduct the rental amount from the original price. But when we want to buy the used violin they said the price is $299 which is hell more than a new violin. So would recommend not to rent or buy anything from this store.

My husband and I each bought Samsung 7’s last week and were happy to know that the Samsung rep in the Woodland Best Buys holds classes to learn all of the options. Although the time was in the middle of the day which disrupts his schedule, my husband signed up for one today (Tuesday July 26) at noon. He received a text to remind him of the class. When he showed up, the staff said that the teacher was a no-show. Since Best Buy has his number (to be able to text him a confirmation), they should have been able to send another text to say that the class was canceled. If the Samsung rep was unable to make it, she should have notified not only the staff, but definitely the attendees. I will give you 5 stars for realizing the need for a class like this, but take away 3 for the way it was handled.

I went to the Strum Shop where I was greeted by Dr. Dan, a very nice man who seems knowledgeable about acoustic instruments. he was super helpful and told me my guitar would be done in 2 days. I got it back the next day. The work was pretty good and the string rattle was fixed but I discovered a couple weeks later he had made a new slot for the high E string on the nut (which I didn’t ask for) and as a result the strings are now not evenly spaced. I have to get a new nut put on now which is disappointing.
He did put a new pickup on for a fair price which works great and I appreciate that! It’s a very nice guitar shop run by very nice folks. I’m sure I’ll go back at some point but I’m a little bummed about having to get a new nut put on as a result of the initial work.

Went in and there was a class going on with 20+ people crammed into a tiny space, not one of them wearing a mask. Only one other person in the entire store had one on, none of the staff. Fully 1/3rd of Sac Co. is completely unvaccinated. I’m immune compromised [along with some 7,000,000 other American citizens] & disabled. The ABSOLUTE BARE MINIMUM of decency and community protection is apparently an outrageous expectation. They also had some absurd overpricing. I vastly prefer non-corporate local stores, but they can F right off if they’re not going to do even the simplest, most pitifully minor actions to do their part in not further spreading a wildly uncontrolled global pandemic that has killed nearly a million U.S. humans, and is far from over. Still averaging a quarter million cases a day, and over 2,000 deaths [more than any time since last winter, still]. They don’t even REQUEST that people wear some kind of face covering. Reprehensible madness, and unless this changes I will not support or recommend them to my musician friends. Please be better, nobody should be forced to exclude themselves from society JUST because of laziness or ignorance and non-measures that throw disabled folks under the bus.
I originally came in to get a new nut cut for my Gibson SG. The repair took longer and cost more than originally advertised, and the repair man left several issues that I had to fix myself (buzzing on A and low E, new tuning problems due to roughness of nut slots, high action, used strings other than the ones I’d left for him and specifically asked for him to use). Fortunately, however, when I brought this up with the shop, out of the $50 that I was charged, I was refunded $40 labor cost. (Still on the hook for $10 though).
EDIT: The manager for the Strum Shop started hassling me over text message after I posted this review. LOL.
I brought a guitar to adjust the action. Dan did not place the parts I asked for saying he did not have it on stock. Inaccurate repair job with replacing the guitar nut. Honestly I could adjust my guitar better than this “professional repair master” “Doctor” Dan. Waisted $80. Very unsatisfied. I would not recommend any repairs in this shop/store.
