Jeremy has been a great teacher for our son who loves the mix of learning modern songs with understanding music theory.
Amazing instructors that want to see you succeed and genuinely care about your progress.
My 7 year old looks forward to his weekly piano lessons! He is gaining confidence, patience, and perseverance along with many other positive benefits. He loves his instructors and is learning at a great pace!
6. The Fret Shop
Address: 309 Jordan Ln NW, Huntsville, AL 35805 , New Market , Alabama , United States
Great place, with a friendly, knowledgeable staff, and a good selection of instruments.
A great music shop!
Very nice place
So if you are reading these I bet you see the polarity of the reviews. People seem to love it or hate it. The difference is who you deal with there. I’ve always seen 3 guys and one young lady. There is a big guy with a goatee who isn’t friendly at all and you can tell he gets annoyed if you play with an instrument. Then there is a pretty generic looking guy that does most of the repair work. He is the embodiment of the a*hole guitar shop/ comic book store type guy. You’re beneath him and he makes sure you know it. If you can get past these two the young lady is very nice, and I’ve seen her make women more comfortable in what is usually a very male atmosphere. She also seems to know most of the store’s products equally so if you are looking for a dulcimer ask her. The last guy is the only reason I still shop there. Tall, skinny dude with a Rock a Billy haorcut. Hands down one of the nicest people I have ever met in a store. He could not care less if you came in there without a dollar to your name or a single chord to play. He loves music and wants to spread that around. If anyone there had the skill to warrant being haughty it would be him, but he is the last one there to do anything other than brighten your day. I take friends in there who have social anxiety etc. or are just nervous because they don’t play and he puts them right at ease. I would love to write this place off, but one great employee can make a difference. He doesn’t even know the difference he has made with some of my Army buddies that can barely handle being out of the house, but thanks to him there is one place they can go feel like a regular guy perusing a store. When my son is old enough he is who I want him to take lessons from. Truthfully he deserves a better place to work at.
This place don’t let you rock the hell out like I do so I feel unwelcome and very bored! Just let people rock out
Nice folks and a quaint, decent size of a guitar shop! Unfortunately the service didn’t blow me away. I dropped off a guitar to have it cleaned up and checked for intonation. I don’t think any of the saddles were even moved. I ended up having to intonate the strings myself when I got a decent tuner in front of me.
I had previously left a 3 star review due to being given a random string after one in the $15 set I had just bought was found defective as I put them on….did not want a random string, I wanted what I paid for!
Now recently I went in trying to find a small part I needed to repair my guitar. The guy behind the counter said, “I’m pretty sure the repairman stocks those. When my colleague is finished with the customer he is helping I will find out.”
The colleague in question was the owner, and when he got through he informed me, “you can bring the guitar in, we will write up a work order, put it in the queue, and see if we can fix it”.
I don’t care to pay someone to put on a small part that I can put on myself which probably cost less than $1! I drove to Harmony Sounds in 5 points and Bill (the owner) gave me one with a smile. That is twice that Bill at Harmony has helped me out by giving me a part free of charge. I know it’s a very inexpensive part, but I really appreciate Bill at Harmony’s attention and focus on customer relations. Bill gets all my future business which would have been split between him and the Fret Shop…..actually heading there today to finish paying off a $3,000 instrument I bought that day after he s graciously gave me the part I needed!
Will not return to the fret shop in the foreseeable future!
I have never been in this shop without being made to feel like a second class citizen. Bought a defective Taylor here, the first three frets were lower than the rest. When I asked about the warranty I was told they weren’t qualified to make that repair. When pushed on the matter their final answer was, didn’t you play it before you bought it? If you’re in the right clique this might be a great store, if not, Buyer Beware!
Very very rude. Bad attitude. Wait and wait for someone who works there, then get the vibe that the guy is thinking, “You’re an annoyance. I only tolerate you because you might buy something one day. Go away until you do.” Will never return to the fret shop. Very sad because it used to be a nice place.
7. Harmony Sound
Address: 820 Wellman Ave NE, Huntsville, AL 35801 , New Market , Alabama , United States
The place to go for what your instrument need. The only guitar store in Huntsville with live music on Tuesdays . And unlike the big chain store, the guitar center, when you go in here you will feel welcomed and will get customer service, unlike other places in town.
If you want a guitar, need a repair, want strings, an amp or anything relative to guitars, you go down and visit Bill and he will take exceptionally fine care of your needs.
Super friendly service. I dropped my guitar off for a set up. He had it done quickly and now it plays better than it ever has.
Good place
Good selection of stringed equipment and some amp and pa equipment. Accessories (like strings) are very pricey.
8. T Shepard’s Discount Music
Address: 110 NW Cleveland Ave, Huntsville, AL 35801 , New Market , Alabama , United States
If you need guitar work done, look no further than Tom. He’s had a few of my guitars now and I’m always blown away at the quality of the work. There’s a reason he’s the most recommended local luthier in the area- he’s got the mojo.
Tommy works miracles. His shop is the gold standard of customer care and quality service. My quality of gear and attention to excellence has drastically improved with Tommy’s help. His commitment to building quality instruments is a local treasure. Please do yourself a favor and visit his shop. You will leave a better musician.
The greatest music store in the world.
Great place for all you musical needs
Just not the place to buy music
T Shepard’s is a great shop, and Tom is a terrific, skilled, and knowledgeable guy.
The straps and strings and accouterments are top-notch.
And the selection of guitars for sale is interesting, diverse, and attractive.
Don’t be in a hurry, though, if you drop your guitar off for repairs.
And don’t expect a phone call or email to let you know about delays well past the implied pick-up date.
This is Mayberry, Andy.
Not Mount Pilot.
Mr Shepard doesn’t seem to understand how to correctly repair tuning stability issues.
He may want to consider the fact that a new customer doesn’t always mean new player. He insulted me when I told him ‘guitar will not stay in tune’ I’d like it repaired’ His response was “you mean it won’t stay in tune or you can’t get it in tune?” Wow.
Sir, I’ve been playing for 38 years. Im a seasoned player. I love music. And I would have loved to find a small shop to do business with instead of that behemoth Guitar Center. Speaking of GC, I only turned to them because this same Mr Shepard was rude to me on the phone last December when I was in the market for a new rig…I mean I’ve bought a Marshall amp, a full complement of pedals, And an American Standard Strat, a Gibson Les Paul. So maybe you should reconsider to whom you are rude in the future. I gave you a chance to earn my business and you blew it. Since last December, I’ve spent over $3000 at GC,and guys like you whine about GC all the time yet you don’t seem to understand why your own business is stuck off in the boondocks, or you constantly have to move around.
9. Gadsden Music Company – Huntsville
Address: 4800 Whitesburg Dr, Huntsville, AL 35802 , New Market , Alabama , United States
This is an awesome music store, staffed with people that really care about music and education!
Great staff. Great selections.
It was great.
Great and helpful
Not a big selection of stuff, but staff was friendly.
Had a clarinet re-padded and new cork. It cost $186
The finished product seems good.
Issue:
They said it would take two weeks. I called after three weeks and they hadn’t even started it. So you may need to call them every few days.
When they did finish it they didn’t call me to let me know. It wasn’t until I called again that I found out it was finished. Feels a bit unorganized.
After speaking with the man at the Huntsville store and verifying they would open until 6; I arrived at 5:30 to find the doors locked.
Don’t keep their promises with estimated time frames. I wasted my time driving there when I was told my guitar would be ready and restrung the next day at said time. Well I was there the next day and another man told me he doesn’t know what happened and that’s all he could do for me.
My issue is I travel with work and was in Gadsden area and had my son’s Sax to drop off for repairs. It was supposed to be delivered to my son’s school. Well it wasn’t due to some misunderstanding so I went all the way back to Gadsden to pick it up and they can’t find it. Turns out it was in Huntsville location. Fixing music instruments is not cheap… You know what else is expensive gas and wear and tear on vehicles. No apology or anything was given at the Gadsden location. Your customer service needs desperate attention!
10. Hallman’s Music
Address: 1920 Sparkman Dr NW #2, Huntsville, AL 35816 , New Market , Alabama , United States
Just want to say thank you. Great doing business with great people. Happy to hear good news today. Our family understands the struggle. We would recommend this company for all your instrumental needs. Again thank you.
I got my sax from hallmans and they have been every so kind! I’m in 7th grade and have been taking lessons from Mrs. Nacy, and I’m going to midstate this year. I’m the first every in my school to go,and thanks to Mrs.Nacy and everyone there I am improving every day. I recommend this store to anyone who is looking to bye an instrument for there child!
Sweetest people. I actually went to a place in Decatur and they did not have what I needed called them and they said they had it but I was not going to make it before close. They told me to come on they would wait and still provided great customer service. Thank you so much!!! Will be back and recommend them to everyone!!!
I appreciate that the owner works with a college student’s budget when tuning instruments.
I HATE this place. They are very rude. When I came in they asked me things like “have you ever dropped your flute” in a very rude tone. I was tempted to just walk out of there and go to Southeastern. All they did was fix a leak and charged me about 60 dollars. When I picked up my flute they played it without my permission and basically told me I had a bad flute. The next time I needed a repair I took my flute to Southeastern and they did a wonderful job. Yes, both stores are a little over priced but Southeastern does a flawless job and is very polite.
By far the worst experience of my life. My daughter joined Beginners Band at her school to play the flute. Hallman’s was suggested by the band instructor so we went there for her flute. Upon arrival they quoted me a $1200 flute and when I said we would not be purchasing a new flute because she was not 100% sure if this was her passion I was told about the lease to own program. What a mistake? I paid first and last month payments and returned the instrument within 2 weeks and was advised that my request for my last month payment would be considered a refund. This company is a scam and wants you to pay for a service that is not rendered. I was even told that the instrument had to be sent off for cleaning and inspection and that costs them money however this is something that they do in-house. When the report comes back is when Mr. Hallman will determine if I am entitled to a refund!
Owner is very crass……that’s fine, we all have are personalities……BUT maintenance insurance is supposedly included in the (higher than anyone else’s) monthly rental fees and when I took the sax in for maintenance they wanted to charge my just over $200 for things that were supposedly covered. Not cool.
11. Guitar Center
Address: 5900 University Dr NW Suite A, Huntsville, AL 35806 , New Market , Alabama , United States
It is great to have them here locally! The staff is super helpful and took care of me when I was in recently needing some sound equipment and cables. They also have rental equipment available.
Awesome place with helpful employees and to notch equipment.
Great customer service
Seemed very short handed. Two guys working the whole place. They need more help to properly cover a store that size.
Great place to get a guitar as long as it’s not a twelve string.
Great service
Guitar Center Huntsville Alabama has absolutely no guitar worth looking at or accessories worth look at. Management Is a and associates are a complete joke. Please don’t waste your time stopping by there.
Worst experience ever! Not one salesman came up me while I was there, so I left…
Poor customer service
12. The Cigar Box Guitar Store
Address: 2211 Seminole Dr SW #106, Huntsville, AL 35805 , New Market , Alabama , United States
One of a kind store. Huntsville it truly lucky to have it. Staff is very welcoming. They want you to come in and pick up a guitar and play.
A wonderful way to be introduced to music via the unique style of 3 string Cigarbox guitar playing.
No musical experience or Cigarbox Guitar needed. The free lessons form Noon to 2 every Saturday have a good mix of beginner to more advanced playing technics and songs. You’ll be amazed how quick you can pick up some basic strumming patterns and easy 3 cord songs you have heard.
Stop in and see what hidden musical talent you may have, and some of the talented musicians who attend.
WONDERFUL experience. Players of all skill, or in my case, completely new to any stringed instrument. The class on Saturdays from 12-2 are so inclusive and incredible
13. Leigh Acres
Address: 5655 Maysville Rd, New Market, AL 35761 , New Market , Alabama , United States
Stayed at the Air BNB at Leigh Acres while traveling with my family and it’s just the cutest! The three bedroom lodge was so cozy and well decorated with fun and interesting art. All of the art on each of the buildings on the property is SO COOL. We took the kids out for a walk on the property, where we saw there are pigs, ducks, and other animals on the farm. I will definitely be coming back for one of their events in New Market, they have a music stage built and the speaker system looks like it rocks! There was even a playground on the property which made it that much more fun. Plus, they are dog friendly, so we were able to bring our dogs to run around and there is a fenced in back yard at the house, which was perfect.
I have never been to this place but I have a friend that lives across the way from there and it is beautiful out there
Love the place, great people, come chek it out, family type place, I give it ,5. Stars only cause get give 6 stars
14. A B Stephens Music Inc
Address: 2828 Drake Ave SW A, Huntsville, AL 35805 , New Market , Alabama , United States
It was a great experience. I was shocked to see so much classical piano sheet music because that’s not something you see very often. 10/10. The workers were very nice as were the pianos.
A B Stevens is fantastic. they’re pianos Or well tune and they give great piano lessons. I buy many music books there they have easy play for beginners, like me.
Great selection of keyboards, guitars and other music accessories.
They do good service
Good variety of music and pianos. Not much else there though.
This a piano shop and a music school with the friendliest of people. They do vocal lessons and i believe insturmental lessons.
This review is for my experience *consigning* with A B Stephens. If you are a buyer, just know that as a customer myself, I have no complaints.
I consigned my piano with them in February of 2020. The pickup process was quick and easy and they were pleasant to work with. The piano sold in about 5 months.
Fast forward to now, and I’ve only just received my check for the sale, over a year later. I reached out to them multiple times prior to the sale for an update without any substantive response, and they failed to notify me of the sale to coordinate sending the check (I had recently moved) until I remembered to ask them again. To their credit, they were quick to solve the problem and Laurin was responsive and considerate given the circumstances. You’ll see her comment below reacting to my original review, which I’ve edited to reflect the conclusion of this situation.
If you consign with them and call regularly for updates, you will have no problems. If you expect them to have your information on hand and reach out proactively, you might have problems.
To A B Stephens – I support your business and I recognize that there was no ill intent. You expose yourself to a lot of risk when this happens, and I encourage you to improve your documentation tools to avoid it happening again. Customer relationship management (CRM) software is more accessible than ever; it’ll make your lives easier, your customers happier, and your business more resilient.
Worst customer service with regard to a player piano purchase. No help from AB Stevens agent or Tech they recommended. Do not return calls for assistance
